Hi all,
When i put mkv files on external micro sdcard by a usb to microsd adapter.
The mkv files dont play on mxplayer on my samsung tabpro.
But when i use kies software from samsung and put the files by connecting the samsung tabpro directly to my pc.
The files come under DCIM/Camera/mkvfiles on the microsdcard the they play with mxplayer.
Just to let people know here.
Seems very strange huh.
I wanted to buy and still going to if all works on mxplayer.
But i search really hard why my mkv files did not play on my samsung tabpro.
Any reason why i need to use samsung software to put files on the microsdcard to play mkvfiles.
greetings

Hi,
This is very strange because storage location does not affect playback at all.
If you unplug USB connection immediately after copying file, file can be corrupted because file may still being copied by Windows USB driver or Windows file system. Use "Remove device safely" menu on the Windows notification bar area. It will ensure file buffer being flushed.

It's due to the android restriction introduced on Kitkat onwards. It prevents the third party applications from directly writing on external sdcard. They can ony write in their respective data folder in sdcard. If you have rooted device then you can fix it by downloading a simple application. Else you have to use Samsung file manager.

As @bleu8888 said don't unpulg the usb device during copy.
Sometimes background process may still copy. Before unplug the usb test the copied file is whether playable or not. If you are still unable to play check the hash values of both files (like md5 or sha1) to ensure the file integrity. Most of the latest file managers like es, Fx can do this. If it doesn't match there should be some problem on your samsung file manager.
Hi,
I think its indeed a read and write problem.
Going to have a look into this.
Maybe root if i find more info about it.
Thx

I do have kitkat with same restriction.
Other apps can't write in microsd in my device too. I am also using samsung file manager to copy any files to microsd card. But, I can play everything whatever I have.
If you look at your case, other then it's data folder mx player can't write anywhere. Even mx player can't write in DCIM folder. But, it's playing well when you copy through kies means your file is complete. It seems that when you coping from file manager it's getting corrupted or not completely copied.
To copy files there is no need to use kies. When you connect in mtp mode your device will be listed as media device. If you open that it will show both internal & external sd. You can copy to any folder.

Indeed no need for kies.
The issue seems more my sdcard itself.
I have a couple 64gig class10 sandisk here.
Restriction from pc to tab is very bad. But if i use cardreader seems like i can write on the card again.
But i have probs with 64 gig sandisk very strange.
Its like person above said movies are like not fully written on de sdcard.
But I realocated the partion on itand formated it now it seems ok.
So Sdcard was like 59gig partion and 3gig other partion and i scrap and made it only 1 partition in total seems it write much beter now.
greetz
ps sorry for bad english

i deleted a video file (recorded using my phone) from the storage card, and i do not sync that folder. is there a way to recover this, or an equivalent recycle folder for storage cards ?
placed in a sdcarder on the pc all pc harddisk undelete tools work just fine with the sdcard
only way i know off
If Rudegar's method doesn't work, try some data recovery software.
Take a look here: http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/2007/PL2007FILEUTILITIES.php#3.30Files:Undelete
In any case U will need card reader.
Thanks guys, I will try these, I have tried a few others, via the sd card reader, but they do pick up some very old deleted files, but not the one in question (a video clip from my phone .mp4 format), i managed in some applications to even select specifc file types and all files, but no success, will try the link suggested below, thanks, will let you know how it goes.
Try "Recover My Files"
Woks for me every time.
I had excellent results with PC Inspector Smart Recovery for pictures, videos and pocketword/excel files. You have to put it into a cardreader for that.
Can we recover frm fon itslf????

I'm using ES File Manager to copy files from my computer to a new Note PRO. I can copy files to the internal storage but I can't copy to the external SD. Also, I cannot use ES File Manager to move files from internal storage to the SD. I can use the stock file manager to move files between internal and SD. So the questions are:
1) Can ES File Manager be made to copy files to the SD card?
2) If not, then can the stock file manager access Windows devices to copy files from the computer to the SD?
Likely the Kitkat SD write permission issue. See here:

Yep, that looks like it. Thank you. I'm not ready to root yet to solve the issue. I was not able to tell if this is a bug or by design. It's pretty limiting.
Still trying to figure out if the built-in file manager can be used to copy from a Windows computer to the SD card.
If you connect your tablet to your windows PC you should be able to access internal and external sdcard. They will show up as separate drives. If they don't, install Kies 3 then connect your tablet again.

I was hoping to get this done using wi-fi just for the convenience. It is something I did with previous devices. It always surprised when a basic feature goes away.
If you have an FTP server installed on your PC, My Files app can pull your files that way, then save them to external sdcard
ES File Explorer implemented the workaround within the first few days of KitKat's release. I've been using it to move files in all directions to and from my MicroSD on my Note 3, S5 and NotePro for months without issue. The main thing that doesn't work is renaming.
However, the WiFi transfer to MicroSD has been blocked by Google for security reasons after a series of WiFi-related file security problems. No file manager is capable of this without Root. Same as how you can no longer download files off the internet directly onto the MicroSD.
It's much faster to just pull out the MicroSD and plug it into a PC, anyway. The transfer protocols on Android are a nightmare.
I'm hoping someone else has encountered this problem and found a workaround...
I've downloaded Flixster, logged in and accessed my collection of films/tv series. When I got to download them it gives an option of download to phone or download to SD card. I selected SD card but it then says that this is not supported on my device. According to Flixster's website, all Android devices on 4.3 and above should have this facility working. Is there anything I can do to get them on my SD card?
Unless you have it installed as a system app it will not be able to write to SD card.
This is a KK feature where only system apps can write to sd card
Choose internal memory then copy it over using a system explorer, or do it via a card reader in your PC or root and apply the write to SD card fix

By transfer "it" do you mean the app and then transfer the app to my SD card via USB? Or do you mean the movie and then transfer that to my SD card via USB?
You have the app installed, it needs to be on the phone.
Download the movie to internal memory and then move that about.

You'll have to excuse me for being a noob, can't quite figure out how this works. I plugged my phone into my laptop, went into internal storage and cut the files from the phone and then put then pasted them onto the SD card. However, now when I go into Flixster it doesn't recognise them as being on the device and although they are listed in the Movies app, it can't play the files.
Can anyone help on this? My 16Gb internal storage is running really low, could really do with getting the Flixster files on my SD card if possible

Though I am not familiar with this Flixter thing, but ones you have downloaded and saved your movie in your SDCARD, why are you sticking to Flixter to play it? You can use your device's movie player or any other 3rd party software that supports the format to play the movie.

They are digital codes for DVDs/Blu Rays I have purchased and have to be redeemed via Flixster. Once redeemed you have the option of streaming it via wi-fi or downloading it to the device. If you download to the device it stays within the Flixster app (they ar enot playable by other media players even though they are mp4 files - guessing they must have some sort of Flixster encoding or DRM). There is an option on Flixster to download them to SD card but it won't let me do it on the Xperia as it doesn't have permission to write to the SD card.
When I connected my phone to my laptop, I found the files within the internal storage and manually pasted them into the SD card but after doing so, Flixster no longer recognised them as being on the device and other players were still unable to play the files.

I am sure you have already checked the settings in Flixster application, to see if it gives option to read & play contents from SDCARD?
There is some application to convert users apps to system apps. Not sure if even after converting this can be moved to SD or not.

Yeah unfortunately not, just an option where to download to and when you select SD card and then download, the Xperia won't let me.
Would I have to be rooted in order to convert to system apps?
I'm on a Xperia Z3 Tablet and hit the same problem. I've found a way around this which works. The thing you have to bear in mind using this is you cannot download to the SD card directly.
Close Flixster
Using File Commander (or similar) on the device, copy Android>data>net.flixster.android to the same location on the SD card.
Note: Using Windows or similar doesn't give you the same rights to create/modify some of the folders
Start Flixster and change the storage location to the SD card.
Restart Flixtser. You will now see the location under the devices saying On SD Card.
I remove the ones from the internal storage once satisfied.
When downloading a new addition, change the location back to Internal Storage, let it download and then move that across and obviously change the storage location afterwards.
It works for me well on a 32gb card and saves precious internal storage space.

On my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (6.0.1) I use SD card for watching movies. I gave access rights for MX Player and I can delete files from SD Card after I finished to wotch movie. Problem is that after file was deleted free space on SD card was not increased. It remains on the same state. Even If I delete all my files (20-30 gb) free space is not increased. And because of that I can not copy new files via MTP.
But if I delete a small file in Samsung file manager all previously used space became available.
It looks like some flush command is missing.

Might be a firmware bug.
Stock file manager has direct access to sdcard.
Where as third party apps are depends on Storage Access Framework.
If problem persists, kindly try any file manager like fx explorer to delete. If the problem exits with that too, it's definitely a firmware bug. Sometimes Just reboot will fix the issue or it will reclaim the lost space.

Got about 27GB of mp3 files on my Windows 10 Laptop. Attempted to copy mp3 files off Windows 10 Laptop to my S8 and here are some of the things I experienced....
1. I attempted to copy all my music, which include folders and files. Wouldn't copy all the music/files.
2. Tried to copy again and it doesn't even try to copy the files.
3. Some of the folders and files just disappeared.
4. I tried the process several times and it just seem broken
Anyways, just wondering how to do this, or what I am missing.
The laptop is updated and drivers too, and my S8 Active is running Oreo fwiw.

Check to see if you are using USB 3.0 ports They cause a lot of issues with file transfer and odin flashed
USB 2.0 ports are recommended
I set USB debugging in the Developer Options and things are working better. Had no idea about that one.
