[Q] 'No Sim - No Signal' - HTC Sensation

I originally posted this question in the general android 'noob friendly' thread but thought it would be better to place it here.
I recently rooted my Sensation XE and ran without any further modification for a day or two.
I then installed cyanogenmod 11 using 4ext recovery and all went smoothly... Except I now have the message 'no sim card' no service' on the bottom of the screen and am unable to connect to my mobile network.
I swapped the sim card to two different known working cards and it connected and worked perfectly. Based on this I purchased a replacement sim and installed it.
The phone then only said 'no sim' on the screen but I was able to phone customer service using the phone and transfer my number to the new sim.
The transfer has happened and now I received the same message... 'no sim card - no service'
Can anyone shed some light on what I can try to fix the issue?
The phone is rooted with S-OFF
HBOOT-1.29.0000
RADIO-11.23.3504.07_M2
The rom I used is at the following link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2530073
My apologies for the long winded post. If there is any other information that may be of use, please let me know.
Thank you for your help!

It looks like it may be my 'radio' that needs to be updated as there are issues with wifi also.
I've found a thread guide which goes through the process of updating it, however the latest of the radios listed is for ICS.
Could someone give a heads up if there is any benefit or potential problems in flashing a radio for ICS now that I am running (or trying to run) KitKat?

The highest official ROM we got for the sensation was ICS, so out highest radio and firmware were also ICS most modern ROMs are based on 3.33 firmware but to directly answer your question no, it will be fine just remember to check the m5d sum of your download to ensure its 100% okay, as flashing radios that have been damaged by a bad download can lead to large problems :/

[Q] Issue with 1.47.401.4 : often get "Limited Service" and hard to get signal back
Hi there,
Since 1.47.401.4 (and never before with 1.28.x), I'm experiencing issues with the radio, especially voice:
1/ I often get a "Limited Service" warning in places where I could easily get a decent signal to give a call.
2/ Each time I got the "Limited Service" warning, it can take ages before the signal gets back (after I moved to some other place).
3/ Sometimes, I need to reboot the terminal to get the voice signal back.
I did perform a full wipe (factory reset) on my phone and install the rom again (using the roms.zip method within the bootloader) but it didn't really solve this issue.
I also cleaned the sim card contacts, just in case, but this was useless.
I also chose "GSM auto (PRL)" in the phone settings, this helped a bit, but still this annoying issue remains.
If someone got a clue, I'm interested ! And if anyone is experiencing such weak/bad signal issue, I'm interested in your feedback.
Cheers.

I have the same problem! 1.28.x was OK, bet the newest one in terms of receiving signals is just terrible!
Hi, have you found any solution so far ?
HTC wants me to sent my phone back but I don't think this issue has something to do with the hardware...

In complete contrast to what you two are saying..(see my old thread where I had this problem with the older radios http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133785)
I'm now running on the latest radio but not the latest ROM (as I use LBC MOD which is currently based on a 1.36 ROM) and I no longer experience this problem.
My conclusion being that the newest Radio is better.
Thanks for your feedback.
Would you then say that the "Radio_20.28I.30.085 AU_3805.06.02.03_M" was the answer to your phone bad signal issues ? Then, I might need to use another rom an check if that helps...
Anyway, did you try to change/update phone/radio settings mode (__http__www_google_com_support_forum_p_android_thread_?tid=42655c79e5837499&hl=en) ?

I have this problem as well and have emailed HTC but received no reply yet.
Also sometimes it all looks okay and allows calls out but incoming calls go straight to voicemail.
Well, HTC will probable ask you to send your phone for repair.
Actually, this is what they've just replied to my email. But I won't send my phone for a simple flash that I could do my-self !
It seems this is a known issue of the HTC phones (there are plenty of such reports on the internet).
Although this problem hasn't effected my calls on the latest radio version, I do agree that I've often seen what looks like severe signal fluctuations, from zero bars to full bars etc, I've also read about this being an issue on the incredible s
I'm hoping that further rom and radio upgrades will improve this.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA Premium App
It seems that the "Limited Service" issue is caused by a signal loss (i.e. using the elevator for instance) that is never followed by an automatic "good signal" retrieval (i.e. after leaving the elevator and going to a place where signal is usually very good).

did it mean did I switch my phone to WCMDA only? if so the answer is NO, mine is set to Auto as around where I live and work there is reasonably good signal.

yes, this is what i wanted to know anyway, this didn't change anything for me.
Have you progressed any?
I tried flashing to 1.28 via the RUU at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002506 but it doesn't appear to want to do a downgrade.
I don't seem to get getting the no service at the moment but I am having problems with incoming calls going to voicemail when the phone claims to be connected.
I put my SIM (giffgaff, a MVNO on O2-UK) into my old phone (an XDA Zest) and put an O2-UK SIM into the HTC. At times I could call the XDA with no problem but calling the HTC went to voicemail - two phones next to each other on the same network....
Of course I can't say if this was a problem with 1.28 as I wasn't looking for it but I suspect 1.47 is the problem.
As expected HTC want me to send the phone back which I think I might do and try and persuade them to downgrade it for me.
yes some progress, at last ! I followed the step by step procedure to s-off the rom 1.47.401.4 rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194488) and then downgrade to the 1.28.401.7 rom that I was using originally. And now everything works fine...
i could say that once again i learnt that newer doesn't mean better

What method did you use to do the downgrade?
I was thinking of trying the method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1190992 which I don't think needs s-off.
Update: I tried the non S-OFF method and have downgraded to 1.28 - I'll see how it behaves now.
I used the PG88IMG.zip method. Basically, you need to copy the roms.zip extracted from the RUU installer to the root of your /sdcard and then reboot your phone to the bootloader.

I ran the RUU exe directly which seemed less involved. It's looking good so far but I'll need to get out and about and see how it behaves in different locations.

same problem here... tried the PG88IMG.zip method but it said "main version is newer" or something like this... so it didn't work..
do I have to do something before that? I used this ruu:

where can I get a rom.zip that works?
After earlier saying that I'd not experienced this limited service problem, I have now witnessed this a couple of times.
Although, since I applied this

This is the Radio that came with the recently leaked Sense SAGA Sense v3.0 ROM and appears to work fine with LBC mod.
does anyone know if one can install this radio over 1.47 with s-off and no root? and if yes - how?

[Q] OTA update broke radio

I just got a 1S for my wife, and as soon as we activated the SIM card it downloaded an update, and once I installed it she keeps getting "no signal". WiFi works just fine, but she can't make calls, send SMS or use data over 3G/4G.
Browsing the TMo forums and some threads here, this seems to be a common issue, but I can't find a definitive fix. What's my best option?
I haven't rooted or done anything to the phone (yet), but I've done it with all my phones, so I'm very comfortable if I need to flash a new radio or anything like that.

You can't flash a new radio. It's locked down no s-off. Only way to update radio is a ota or a ruu or use a aosp Rom. Aosp strores radio on system partition. Want my advice send the phone back.

I'm not sure how to fix it, but you can flash radios through recovery with an unlocked bootloader, no need for s-off. It works with 1.09 and 1.06 hboots. I'm not sure if any other hboots do. you would need a custom recovery, specifically twrp I believe. Available radios are in the development thread.
hboot 1.09 is the newest version on which flashing radios works. Anything newer than that is a no-go.
Luckily theres CM, which allows flashing radios regardless of hboot versions, since CM uses radios differently.

[Q] Radio problem with custom ROM

I'm hoping for some friendly advice - I have a Desire S which was rooted last year and I installed CM10 to try out JB. All has been working well )part from the occasional reboot) however couple of days ago the battery started draining quickly, the phone became very hot and the wifi stopped working. After various wiping of caches and rebooting I decided to try some other ROMs (Fallout Evolution V5, Miui, IceDS) and although they all installed OK I still have no wifi and now the mobile network won't work.
It worked on Fallout at first but when the wifi wasn't working I wiped and re-installed and it hasn't worked since. It does see the O2 network although the phone hd previously been unlocked to work with Vodafone, so I think I may have rolled back the radio somehow.
At this stage I'm not entirely sure if it is a software or hardware problem, and I din't know how to test the hardware.
The phone is currently as follows:
UNLOCKED
Saga PVT ship s-on RL
HBOOT -2.02.0002
Radio -3831.19.00.110
eMMC -BOOT
July 31 2012>15.41.32
Do I need to update the radio? If so, which version should I use? And do I need to s-off the phone first?
Any other help would be appreciated.

Did You tried installing stock rom again in your mobile
No I haven't. I assume this would re-install the correct radio?
Not sure where to get the stock ROM, or which one was shipped with the phone.
If I did get it can I flash it through recovery - I'm using 4EXT?

Than you can know which ruu to flash. But don't forget to downgrade your misc version before fishing ruu

OK, I have managed to get the phone back to it's stock ROM which is O2 in the UK.
I had previously unlocked the phone but it now won't accept anything other than an O2 SIM. When I scan for networks only O2 is seen. I still have the unlock code but when I put a Vodafone SIM in it doesn't prompt me for the unlock code. I'm just getting a Limited Service display.
Is there any way of forcing the unlock code prompt screen - say with keyboard numbers or via Fastboot?

do i understand things as they are?
do you intend to use simcards of another operator?,
well... that`s what branding stands for,
to make sure
you`ll not use any sim from different carrier...
is your phone simlocked as well,
or is it only a branded rom ?
..but why bothering to flash the phone with branded RUU,
(when there are quite a few generic ones, still floating around,..)
except, when one wants to claim a warranty..may be...
I flashed the O2 ROM as it was what was on the phone when I bought it and I was trying to get back to a radio that would work.
I have since managed to get the phone working OK with the Asda/Vodafone SIM but I am still having problems with the wifi (this is where it all started!). whenever I switch the wifi on it scans and then reports that it is unable to scan for networks, after 2-3 attempts the wifi switches itself off.
I'm still trying to find out if it is a software or hardware problem. Other than that all is working well on the Fallout v5 ROm I have flashed - although it does make the phone run hot.

I changed the ROM to IceDS v8 which seems to run cooler. I think part of the problem was with Titanium Backup running and the wifi kept searching for a network.
I am still having the wifi problem as it displays 'unable to scan for networks'. Having searched the internet extensively and tried a few different so called fixes I have come to the conclusion it is a hardware problem. When I get time I'll see if I can strip the phone and see if I can find the cause.

Well I stripped the phone and checked what connections I could but still no wifi.
I have used the RUU to get back to stock ROM and everything is fine except the wifi not working. Does anyone know if the wifi hardware is on the PCB, and if so where it would be in the phone. As the phone is in excellent condition I am thinking of getting a cheap phone with broken screen and just cannibalising it with my phone and building one good phone. It's just knowing what part of the phone contains the wifi hardware.
Any help would be appreciated.

[Q] Where do I go next with this?

OK, so last weekend I managed to get my HTC One X (Evita) rooted, but not S-OFF. I made it once successfully through the entire Facepalm process, but the phone remained S-ON for some unknown reason. It was said to me that I may try to flash a custom ROM and then try again, so I flashed to the most recent CleanROM. Since that time, I've had great problems getting my cell service to stay active, and all further attempts to use the Facepalm/S-OFF method have proven useless because I simply can not ever under any circumstance get past the dreaded "device not found" from the command prompt. I should further note that I read about a LOT of people needing to add a few layers of tape to their SIM in order for their service to stay on with this particular phone...so I've already successfully done this and it did not resolve my dropped service issue.
At this point, I don't know which direction to go. Could the ROM be why my service is dropping? I've not done any sort of "radio" update on this phone yet...can that be an issue? I see RUU's listed on the index thread...would flashing to one of those help? If so, is the procedure same as flashing a custom ROM? And how in the world can I get passed the "device not found" error so that maybe, someday, possibly, I can have my S-OFF?
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
OK, so I've done a couple MORE hours of reading, and I've learned this:
1. The signal drops (as well as the occasional reboots which I didn't mention earlier) are consistent with people whose kernel or radio need to be updated to something that appropriately matches the ROM they're running.
2. I'm not imagining things...rooting/updating THIS particular HTC phone is indeed trickier than the other 3 I've rooted in the past...in the sense that following the directions won't always yield you the same results as the next guy. I'm seeing this sentiment in forum posts (even from ROM developers/etc.) quite a bit today, so, if nothing else, I know I haven't lost my mind lol.
So anyways, it seems as though I need to figure out which "kernel" to flash. I've not flashed ANY kernels on this phone so far, and it came stock running Android 4.0. I ultimately want to be running the latest stable version of Android with Sense on this phone. It appeared the answer for me would be the latest CleanROM, which is 4.2.2. and Sense 5. It's been running on my phone for almost a week now and I like it, except for the signal dropping/rebooting.
I don't know if I've added ANY info that will help someone give me good advice, but....anyone?
...and even MORE reading led me to the xda thread for the latest CleanROM, which is littered with folks having the exact same problem as me.
So yeah, I was here thinking all these problems were brought on by me just not "getting it"...but it just so happens that the first ROM I flashed had these issues for folks with not-so-current radios.
I've got several threads pulled up now that will supposedly get me fixed up, but I can't flash a kernel without S-OFF, so I'm back trying to figure out how to get past this stupid "device not found" issue.
Flash a different ROM to get s-off, Android 4.0 or 4.1 will be best. Once you have s-off you can either upgrade to the 2.15 firmware or flash the Beastmode kernel, either of these methods will stop the signal loss issues you've experienced on Cleanrom. Also, please search before posting, the signal loss issue is plastered all over the Cleanrom thread, you can't read more than two or three pages without seeing it mentioned along with the fix.

[SOLVED] [T-Mobile] HTC ONE S (S4) 3G not connecting

Need some help for my device [T-Mobile] HTC ONE S (S4). I'm using in INDIA.
For the past 3 years i have used this phone in 3G network with out any issues. Last week i flashed a new ROM but after that i don't get 3G signal.
I tried a lot of ROM's and Radios but still it is not working. So i flashed the stock ROM and RADIO but still its not working. I understand the bands the T-Mobile uses differs but it was working fine before flashing a different ROM.
I don't know what to do.
So please if any one using the same do upload your ROM and RADIO and other things that influence the phone to work.
P.S: I posted in various threads and asking for help but i don't get any reply hence started a new thread so everyone like me can find it useful.
Thanks.
EDIT:
I flashed the Official T-Mobile JB RUU and my phone started to reboot after showing up the "preparing Phone Storage" (soft bricked)
Finally solved the issue:
I have flashed the official T-Mobile JB RUU after relocking the bootloader, S-ON, change CID- ********(Stock cid , In my case its T-MOB010).
Now i have a brand new phone working good.

I tried to install a custom rom again without s-off and i succeded but my phone reboots occasionally and my radio disconnects from the network occasionally and do get it back i need to search for network.
Atleast all other things work good.
Im planning to try to flash my kernel with the official stock kernel downloaded from HTC .
Will post if that works.
Thanks again
Best voice quality is in stock rom!
