[Q] Jumping in to help where I can/Programming/Drivers - General Questions and Answers

Hello All!
New to the forum, however I have been following XDA posts and XDA TV for a long time. Anyways, I have always been one to sit back and just thank people for all their hard work programming roms, or roots etc etc. Now I just want to dive in and help wherever I can! I work in the IT field and I mainly am an hardware expert. I have no programming or driver experience whatsoever. So where can I start? Is there a place or language I should start with first? Is there anyone in the forum willing to teach a wanting to learn soul?
Anyways let me know!

[Q] Dev. Help

Hello,
I am somewhat new to xda forums and Im glad to be here.
I wanted to ask for some help regarding developing android applications and programs, as I am somewhat lost in the beginning stages of the process. I havent successfully downloaded the correct programs in order to begin so I guess if someone could help in that regard. However more importantly I would like to know if there is anyone who would be willing to be my official dev. trainer/tutor to teach me the basics so that I can actually have a chance at developing something.
I know ive seen a no noobs section so I know pros must be looking at my post like "just another noob". But I am really interested in learning and I would appreciate someones help and guidance. Thanks and I hope someone decides to help.
First of all, no one will dedicate his time to teach you. some have work/school and other important stuff to do other than teaching you.. But im sure they can offer you a minute to post here the things you need to read and answer the problems you have..
maybe the first thing to do is to list down what have you already accomplished, like what you already read about programming, about android programming and such stuff..
so that people can point you to your next step. at this point it seems that you are totally lost and dont know here to begin, and so the pros who wants to help you..
goodluck and dont lose hope..

[Q] New to XDA & Android OS

hi everyone, im new to XDA & also new to Android OS. I need someone who knows what they are doing to help me understand XDA & how the rooting process works.
any experienced rooters out there looking for a student??
What device do you have/ what specifically do you want to know about rooting and or xda
Far as learning what XDA is all about, this thread is a good place to start.
Welcome to the XDA community! I'm still relatively new to the Android OS as well, and my knowledge expands greatly by the day here. Really, the best way to learn XDA is to explore it all and read a lot before posting!
XDA is the resource to goto, to find out how to do stuff. However, don't shy away from using Google to familiarize yourself with the jargon used in the Android mod community. It is invaluable to know what rooting, bootloader, recovery, fastboot and adb mean, before attempting to modify your phone/tablet to something better software wise.
I haven't been around too long but I've successfully flashed roms on 3 phones if you need anything pm me. And I've done a little bit more but not much. My most advanced knowledge is making the hello world app with java lol. Good luck to ya and welcome.
The device specific forums are the best place to get rooting info for your phone. You'll find guides and wiki therein.
You might want to watch this guide to learn more about XDA itself:

[Q] New guy - is XDA for me?

Hey guys!
Did some some searching around on this site and couldn't even find a mention of my device. I just recently bought a Huawei Y210C android phone. It is a Chinese manufacturer, which might explain the sparsity of information in English about it.
Anyway, about me, I do some programming in Java, and I want to eventually be making android apps. I also want to root my huawei, try some different ROMs on it and stuff. Now, as far as android development goes, I'm a pure beginner. Does it matter that there aren't people talking specifically about my phone, or can I snag some 'how to root' guides from other devices and ROMs, etc., and use them effectively, or would I have to figure out how to root it on my own?
Essentially, what I am asking is: given that there is no sub-forum for my device, and that I'm a dev noob, will I find useful stuff around here?
cheers
For anyone, and everyone , unless your gonna hack XDA, or blow the servers up then NO! otherwise yes, and you are very welcome if you ask me . Always nice seeing another XDA member. You may or may not know shiz about flashing a ROM, or kernel, or unlocking bootloaders, etc, etc, but that's why there are tutorials to get people started
Everything you needed to get started should be here , welcome to XDA

As far as your phone. You can for sure utilize XDA, I just did a search and there's not really much of anything for your phone, but you can for sure still post stuff you make for it on here . I'm pretty sure you could utilize the 'Android Developing and Hacking' or 'Legacy&Low Activity Devices' to post your work for that phone .

XDA is a great information resource for pretty much anything Android related. Being that you have a desire to develop apps I'm 99.9999% positive there is someone on XDA that'll help you out any way they can if you have any questions. In the end though only you can answer your own question. Joining XDA was one of the best choices I have made and now its inspired me to learn the Python language and then I'll tackle Java lol.

Well I just want to start out by saying hello to my fellow xda freaks! I'm new here and I'm learning how to be an advanced user of my Samsung Galaxy S 3!! I'm extremely excited about learning the ropes of getting the most out of my Galaxy!! I would like to learn first of all how to Root my phone. Also My carrier is US Cellular could someone please tell me which forum I should be in as I did NOT see US Cellular listed in the forums for the Galaxy S 3? It would also be great if someone could point me in the right direction of where I should start reading and learning the ropes of rooting my phone and another question I have is should I learn other things before I go right into learning how to root the phone? I know how to use my phone pretty well to the point where I think I'm above needing to learn the basics if you will. Any help is and will be greatly appreciated in getting started here so I can learn I'm really excited and can't wait to learn more! Until then I'll be reading through this site and learning as much as I can hopefully someone will know where I can go to get on my way to learn the good stuff about my phone!! Again I want to thank you all for the help you will hopefully be giving me it's greatly appreciated very much so!!! Thanks again!!!

If you browse around the development forums you should be able to find more information about how to root your phone and such. Many of the rom developers there have a rom that is labeled specifically for the phone. Look in the title. It should say [d2usc] for your model. Also posted at the top of the original android development thread there's a toolkit. That might have the rooting info your looking for. Also I would highly recommend looking in Android development and reading all(yes ALL) of the stickies posted there. They have a lot of helpful information that can help if you have a problem or prevent it from happening in the first place. After you've learned yourself some knowledge have some fun and happy flashing!

Learning more?

Is there anyway that I can learn more about the inner workings of Android? I'm really interested in learning the ins and outs. Rooting, modding, app developing potentially, etc. Is there anyway to start? I want to be able to do things without using tutorials and just know how to do it.

Hello, there,
First off, welcome to XDA! I hope you enjoy your time here.
Now, onto your question, I'd like to point you to XDA University. It has a large amount of easy-to-understand information about all kinds of Android things for beginners. Rooting, ROMs, app development, it's all in there. Go ahead and check out that site.
Quick note, the next time you have a question that is not specifically about the xda-developers website itself, it's best to post your question in the Q&A section instead of here, in the About xda-developers.com section. Thanks!

Sorry about the misplacement of the post.
I just want to become more fulent like most people are here on the forum. I read these forums and half the time it might as well be another language. Haha. I'll check out your suggestions. Thank you.
