Mod/Hack Request - Double Tap Home Button - General Questions and Answers

SM-900T 4.4.2
I can't find a way to set it when I double tap home to choose what option/app/feature to run.
I hate having Samsung voice activation. Not that the app is bad or anything I just don't use it. I much rather just use my Google Search widget when I need to. That's just how I am.
I wanna use the double tap for my recent/running apps. Aka multitasking.
Instead of holding the home button to launch the list of apps I wanna double tap to do that this disabling the Samsung voice.
I searched Xposed and Google. But either I'm a blind man or I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Oh yes I'm rooted etc...with BioShock 3.5 over clocked kernel on Infamous ROM. The latest build. O forget the version.

Anyone with CM6 or above replace the long click home..
Finally!!
doesnt work with home replacements
only on stock froyo launcher
if you have CM RC3 you can change the long press on home and DONE you have it as your long press home button! and then set which ever launcher you like
I hope this app gets popular. It has amazing potential and will be great if lots of people start using it (like Launcher Pro) It's definitely great with Cyanogen Mod using the long press home replacement!
Can't wait to see some coverflow and other animations
This has the potential to be pretty great it just needs a better way to close apps (swipe up palm OS style maybe? or just an X in the corner). I get pages of recent apps thats counter productive sometimes, but pretty cool start

when you have visual task switcher open, you can press menu and get to settings, where you can choose what home app to launch, as well as whether to bind the app to the home key or search key (long press)
Thank you! This is fantastic when configured to replace the long-press home task switcher.
Love it although I'd love the ability to pin apps to the screen(kinda like the task bar in windows 7) so they appear whether they are open or not. Preferably with some way of distinguishing an open task from a non open one.

Why do you say that? it works great with launcherpro.
You open the app, then press menu setting, and set launcherpro as home.
The i mapped a gesture of my app drawer (middle icon) to swipe for visual tasker and all done.
That's smart as hell, I just replaced the home function using Cyan 6 but I'm gonna set that up as well...
I hope in future updates it allows long press to just press an X and close an app (or remove from the list) I don't like the whole screen with the forcestop button

Works fine for me..
Home: Launcher Pro Plus; Long Search: Power Strip; Long Home: Visual Task Manager
on Android 2.2, N1
btw here's the dev site http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/0...al-task-switcher-now-available-on-the-market/
Awesome!!! I am using it right now.
Thanks for sharing!
Nice program!
Have pretty much covered all my multi-tasking bases now heh
Home key: Launcher Pro
Long press Home key: Visual Task Switcher
Long press Search key: QuickDesk
Seems useless for those of us with Enom, since we don't have the control for long press home.
Either I choose long search, which cuts my easy access to Voice Search, or I choose short home, which makes everything else involving the home button really awkward. Poor implementation.

I'm pretty sure the developer can't do anything about that, since apps don't have access to long press home at all.

Your assumption is correct. Currently on the 2408 nightly.
I wish the preview cards were a little bit bigger. Either that, or if the previews had a slightly higher resolution? Other than that, it's pretty cool!
I wish there was an option to force the preview cards smaller, or even better, icons only. Going from 15 recent apps (CM6) at once to 9 is a downer.
Also, for some reason new items sometimes randomly pop up on the left side, and sometimes on the right side, so you have to scroll back and forth. That really slows down app switching. And sometimes, apps like Voice don't even show up at all for some reason, which make me waste even more time.
Great looking app and great idea, but had to uninstall as it was actually slowing down alt-tabbing.
- Disabling left/right scrolling (force 1 screen),
- Allowing an option for icon-only view,
- And fixing the bug that some apps don't show up will make me reinstall.

[Q] How does Multitasking work for the User?

Wait!! Don't get me wrong!! I don't want to know how android multitasking works that's been discussed pretty often here... i think i got this part.
The point is, i'm thinking about switching from iOS to Android...
And I'm concerned about how multitasking works on android.
Example:So on iOS I can play Angry Birds pause the game, double tap homebutton and switch to text app to text someone, double tap homebutton again switch back to Angry Birds unpause and continue playing..
1. On android: does long-pressing the homebutton to see "recent apps" work from EVERY app?
2. Can I just switch from any app to another using "recent apps" and the apps i get back to, continue to run where i left them (e.g. angry birds...) or do they restart? So if android decides, that it needs ram, it will close apps, i got that and thats okay..
3. TouchWiz 4.0 adds a taskmanager button to the "recent apps" screen. this will take you appmanagement, where you can exit apps. In the forums i read that manually exiting apps is bad for android performance and battery life.. true??
I tried to find the right section for posting this and thought this is the right place, sorry if im wrong!
Would be nice if someone would answer my questions.
Thanks!!

Yes, it's a feature of Android OS itself and app can't block/disable it.

Yes, as long as there will be enough RAM, your app will be "frozen" and will wait for you in a state you have left it. But you don't have to use "recent apps" - you could e.g. click home button or open notification bar and tap something - app will be frozen. Same for returning to this app - in most cases this doesn't matter whether you will select it from "recent apps" or just tap it from a launcher.
Also some apps can resume their state even if they were killed for their RAM. But most of apps don't implement such feature.

It's bad if you kill apps like crazy - or if you use task manager which does the same. It's no problem when you kill one or two apps if you have reason to do so.
Ahh thanks =) Sounds pretty good. Well I got an iPhone 3G now and i cant use more than 2 apps "at once" because i got multitasking by editing some plists but not the official way, apple wanted
and i have to kill apps, for my phone to run smoothly..
i dont want to mess with android processes like keyboard or stuff, but maybe, after playing a game, when i know that i wont get back to it pretty soon, there shouldnt be a problem with exiting it.. well cool. this probably bought me cant wait for the galaxy s 2 to be available here =) first android phone for apple fanboy
but thanks for taking the time!

home2 (for google now) and apex launcher

Hello, I have home2 installed on my 4.1.1 GSIII so that I can use google now for double tap rather than having S Voice...
Now though, I want to use a launcher to give my GSIII a new look... and it seems that I cant use both?
Is that true? Can I not use both?
If I cannot use both, is there any other way that I can assign my double tap to google now?

In Apex launcher, I have the home key bounce to my "main" home screen, then if I hit home again from there, will go to Google Now. I find it pretty useful that way.
Obviously, if I'm already on my "main" home screen (the one with my clock widget, etc), then hitting the home key will take me to Google Now.
Hope this helps.

Please Rate this app on Play store, thanks so much!
If you have suggestion or feedback, please let me know.
Please join this community then folow the link in the sticky post to help me test new feature, thanks!
Some issues:
Accessibility service can cause lag on some device when use Chrome, this happen to all application that use accessibility service as you can see in this thread . If the lag is too extreme please disable the Swiftly switch accessibilty service, all feature still available except the navigation (home, back).
If you return to home screen and then launch an app, it won't be launched until about 5 seconds after going home. This is beacause Android do not let any service launch apps before 5 seconds has pass from return to home screen.
Sorry
I just edit the post

I bealive it can't effect battery life enough to concern. Actually it just draw 1 (or 2) transparent rectangle on top screen then leave it alone until user swipe from it.
Thanks for your question, I just look at it after your question. Luckly I can't find Swiftly switch in my phone's battery report:
Have you try it yet, please share your thought about that

Nothing as swift as Force Touch Detector,
you touch, it register as touch,
you force it, it register as custom action to trigger app multitask.

Yes, it show list of 6 recent app and let you switch between them.
You can try it
Thank you for the good app! I noticed several features (out their absence), which hold me on Switchr instead moving to your app.
1. I could put Switchr a not higher, 1/3 from the top of my phone. Your app is possible to put only in the center. It's impossible to lift it a bit higher saving the length of a sensitive zone. That is a problem.
2. I have root and prefer to kill app from the switchr if it misbehaves. With your app I cannot.
3. In switchr I could see actively running apps and recent apps which are not longer in the memory. With your app I cannot see it.
Unlike Switchr your app is quicker, more responsive. I like it. And your idea with favorites is really great. Thank you for the good job and your hard work!

I didn't meant recent apps. On switchr it would show running apps (not recent apps) and we were able to close them too, but the developer said he couldn't do it on android versions after kitkat

The best way is to implement this opportunity and to explain users in settings under what conditions these features work (root, OS version, XPosed Unrestricted Task module).

Thanks for your feedback. I primarily make this app for non root user, as this app growing I will consider add more function for root user.
About position of the edge you can set to Right-top or Left-top in each edge setting so you can save the centre zone.

Did this app work on Lolipop and above? As I know from lolipop I can't use the same code to get recent app like befor, and that why swichr can't get recent app unless you have Xposed module UnrestictedGetTasks.
I have a nexus 6p and before that Note 4 - neither of which were rooted. So 6 and 5.1.1
With that said, it was just a launcher and didnt access recent apps. I guess you need if for that?

Yes, as I know, from lolipop, I need Usage stat to access recent apps.
My app use that permission only for that, as you can see, it doesn't ask for any internet permission.
Some bugs
Hey love the app.
But noticed a couple of bugs on my Note 4. The show notification does not bring down the notification shade. And back sometimes does not come up. It takes multiple tries it seems like I have to push my finger off the target area to get a haptic feedback and for the back command to register.
Continue the great work.
Nice! Just installed it
lollipop here, it got stuck for me and I had to restart couldnt click any app or dismiss it
Seems like a great idea for large screen phones too where its hard to use with one hand. Will give it a go on my Nexus 6P and report back!

[guide] ( need root) how to use fingerprint button as home, back and recents button.

If you want to use the fingerprint sensor as capacitive button and remove the on screen buttons, here are how to do it. TESTED ON XT 1640 (BRAZIL VERSION)
First you need to root and install TWRP recovery. take a look on the other threads for it.
Install the EX Kernel from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/development/kernel-elementalx-g4-0-01-t3424836) [ READ THIS THREAD FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT COMPATIBILITY]
If everything works fine, this kernel makes you fingerprint work as home button, but to have others functions, intall this app ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-button-mapper-customize-hardware-t3361340)
Now you can remapp as your wish.
TO REMOVE THE ON SCREEN BUTTONS:
Use any build.prop editor and just add this line ( qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 )
post your screenshots if you enjoy it.
thanks to flar2 for the kernel and app.

Good to see some customizations coming along. I'm not a dev at all but I don't understand with android being custom sourced why everything is so hard to do. Its like something like this to happen requires a kernel app and than a download of another app to work with that app. Than only some things can be changed and unlock functions can't. It just reminds from 2009 and up having Activator app in the jailbreak world 7 years ago I could change my home button to do whatever along with gestures or anything. I know Apple isn't open sourced out of the box but when those restrictions are opened up they are 100% in function. Sadly Apple has more than doubled their prices since I was owning 2009-2011 phones so I've been in the android world for 4 years now. It just hurts me that the technology these days in 2016 we can't have a operating system as simple to tweak as a user but considered open sourced.

For this device, the mod is at the hardware level. The fingerprint sensor is just a fingerprint sensor. I modified the kernel to make it behave like a button and send home key events by default. The additional app, Button Mapper, allows you to assign actions to single press, double tap and long press.
You can actually do all this without root, which is pretty cool. But you still need a custom kernel.

Use Xposed and gravity box fingerprint launcher
There's an Xposed module called gravity box that will let you use the fingerprint scanner as the button. No custom kernel needed!
I can't hide the navbar.. help me please

But there is no Xposed for Android 7.0 yet.
How can I do it without changing the kernel but got root?
Is there any way of achieving this without changing the kernel? Because I want other features of my existing kernel. Isn't there an easier way? Like just adding a script or something?
Thanks in advance!
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 doesn't do the required stuff (hide the navigation bar).
Tried it on STOCK Nougat ROM with ElementalX kernel.
Well.. There is a much easier way. I have xt1643 running Lineage OS with Vegito kernel. Hats off to the kernel dev. My phone is so much smoother with less heating issues. Just there is a drop in battery backup. And coming back, in linage OS u have an Option to use expanded desktop with takes away the Navbar and Status bar. Use can swipe n bring it anytime you want. Also you can use the fingerprint as the home button..
Hey, I'm also an user of Lineage OS and there's an option in settings to set FP sensor as home button (an also double tap works as multitask), and the option to use expanded desktop mode (but I don't use this because apps still leave space as if the navbar existed - as it does -, showing up every time you type something etc), but I prefer to hide it completely editing build.prop as suggested.
So, with this setup, I don't really need the app cited on 1st post (also, when I tried it kept bugging).
BUT my problem is, there's no option as to set some gesture to work as back button. In a lot of apps there's a back arrow in the left top so it works nice, but there's also a lot more apps that doesn't have this, so it's kind of annoying.
Is there some way to solve this?? Or some mod to bring one button nav (as in the G5) to G4+??
Thanks in advance.
Can you tell me how to add these gestures to a custom rom which currently have none active?
Im using Lenovo P2A42. Its stock Android N has all three gestures for navigation in the fingerprint gesture natively. But none of its custom rom has this fuction. I want to add this function to the custom rom without using any third party app.
