Idea For Application Against Scam / Direct Marketing - General Questions and Answers

Sometimes I get calls from private numbers or numbers I don't recognize. I don't wan't to bother answering because it could suck me into unpleasant and annoying conversation with snake oil salesmen, scammers or someone I don't want to talk to.
I was thinking of application which could allow me to:
1. Identify questionable number using central database of known numbers if possible
2. Present me with following options:
a) Send to my carrier's voicemail to leave message
b) Send to 3d party voicemail with my custom greeting message recorded asking caller to identify himself and leave number to call back to
It would be great to set by default unfamiliar and private numbers to be transferred to one of above options of my choosing
Sometimes there are legit calls coming from unknown and private numbers that I miss. That's why the idea for application that could do above.
What are your thoughts about this? Is this feasible?

Android App to Block Unknown Callers?

So I keep getting calls from auto-dialers coming as "Unknown" on Caller ID.. I answer and it's that 5 second delay then someone in a foreign country asking me to sign up for a newspaper or refinance. I want to ELIMINATE these calls. I have a block list that works good in Android, but it doesn't allow me to ass Unknown to blocked calls... I saw some posts from several years back, but nothing recent. Is there anything good out there today that I can install to block unknown\unavailable calls from coming through to my phone?
Thanks!

Yeah I saw that but the screen still flashes on and shows the missed call, even when I click delete it from call log. I wish there was one what didn't even process the call, like the built in blocker.
This should be an advanced feature of Google Voice as well. Anyone been getting calls from 0000123456 recently? Haven't been able to pick up yet, but I have missed two calls from this number now. Saw somewhere it might be skype caller. Wonder what could be done by porting Asterik into the Android kernel and having some nifty virtual PBX features built in!

The one that drives me nuts is the calls from Indian telemarketers.... US telemarketers are required by law to send ANI with their calls, but calls coming from outside the US don't have to comply, or aren't able to be enforced. I say if someone doesn't present their #, I ought to be able to reject them from getting through to my phone.
We in India are also facing major trouble with telemarketing calls & after being put to notice by the supreme court they have now started sending text sms, the best defense I have found against this is "Extreme Call Blocker Droid" this can block all private numbers or you can specify a list of starting numbers eg. block all numbers starting with 800
*Hangup mode block voice mail
*Block anonymous/private/unknown/blacklist calls
*Block unknown/blacklist SMS,
*Built-in private SMS mail box hide private txt msg
*Schedule on Google calendar to decide when to block.
*Hide private number calls in/out, no call log.

You can customize it to your hearts content & have a peace full day.
To trace the callers we have a site in India which you can use for tracking all kinds of numbers & text IDs.
http://www.indiatrace.com/index.php
then there are free apps too like blacklist-free & many other with similar features.

The one I use is called Easy Filter Call blocker. It can block calls and sms messages, including unknown numbers. You can set it to block them without notifying you if you want it to.

Block unknown Callers
You can block unknown callers by using some advanced phones.
in these phones you can either blacklist some selected numbers or reject all unknown mobile numbers (numbers which are not added in your SIM / phone's phonebook will get rejected).
Root call blocker pro. Its in the market.. Works great and doesnt show the caller, it just rejects it right away in the background and you can have notification of when calls are blocked. Also has sms block

Is is truly unbelievable to me that in this day and age such an essential phone function could have been overlooked! I have been searching for days and days and found NOTHING or got stupid responses such as "use Google" (Online only, uses Data and for US Citizens only) or "use voicemail" (expensive cellular provider subscription add-on)... I mean, come on! When even the cheapest home phones can be gotten with built in answering machines, how come this essential feature is nowhere to be seen on android phones?
What's the deal, what's the technical hangup, what's the problem? Can anyone explain the REASON why there are NO call answering machine-like apps of any kind out there?

Im looking for the same thing and can't find it too!
Here is my need. I have a business phone number and my personal cell phone number. All my customers should call me to my business number which I can set to auto-forward to my cell only at the time I want to. But some of my customers know my cell phone number and they keep having this bad habit of calling me on it instead of my business phone number.
I'm looking for a app that will be tracking in the background the caller id number of incoming calls, if the number is a on list of unwanted that I have set, it will auto-answer, play an audio file recorded by me (like: "Please dial 111-222-3333 to reach me, thanks you") and then hang-up.
I don't feel alone with the need of a solution like this. And there are apps that can auto-answer call according to the caller id and there are apps that can play audio in a call, I don't see why it could not be technically possible to combine both.
wow
can't belive it, i was looking for the same and found several threads like this one, that's sad
let's hope sth comes up
Yeah, I used to have this function on my old fliphone from way back in 2002! Also, on my Windows Mobile phones after that...
Exactly. My nokia flip from ages ago (ran symbian OS) has an app on it called "Advanced Answering Machine" or "Advanced Call Manager" or something similar.
I could set it up so that it would direct calls to different greetings depending on the caller ID. An example of this is, I wont accept calls from "unknown" or "blocked" etc numbers. ACM/AAM would handle this perfectly. It would answer the phone, play the Telstra (thats a telco in australia) message "the number you have called is not available from this service." twice, then hang up. Later on I found out I was missing some important calls (the message confused some people such as the landlord who had a blocked number) so I changed it to "I do not accept calls from blocked numbers. To unblock your number, dial 1831 in front of your number. It wont cost you any more". This fixed the problem.
It was also programmed to answer calls after 30 seconds of ringing and play a standard greeting then take a message.
It was a very versatile program. I could (for example) divert certain calls to a party line if I didnt want calls from that particular number; however I didnt, as the diverted leg would cost me a fortune.
Its a shame on these advanced handsets today that such a simple, commonly available on landline phones, feature is not available. I can control televisions, fly remote controlled toys and vapourize components with a big bank of capacitors over bluetooth using my phone, yet it cant perform a simple answering machine function.
From what I hear the API that handles these functions is not directly accessable to developers; probably because "malware" could hook in and dial high priced premium calls and rack up huge bills all the while the phone owner not knowing until the monthly account comes in.
I did see one answerphone somewhere but it utilised the speaker so if it took a call (for example while your at the pub) the caller would not hear your greeting, or on the train everyone around you would hear your greeting and then the callers message, so not very practical. It would NOT work properly while the phone was on mute.
xperia phones come with buit-in answering machine feature. or use jail broken iphone and u have half a dozen apps which can do it.
unfortunately in android noway.. even if u r rooted.. no way

apk to automatically making calls

Hey there!
I like to Streamlining my android system usage with least input required
Is there any apk or script that allow me to automatically making calls all my contact numbers without tediously always manually doing it what takes so much time, I would like option allowing it able to call each groups etc.
SO i can just pick up 40 contacts and It will keep calling each 40 numbers in linear order one by one, so it will make able to start another call from every time previous call is finished or not picked. and there is way to stop it of course then too.
scheduled phone calls by time
app on automatically calls all # in fashion of
contact1#1 call end then continue automatically to next line
contact1#2
contact2#1
contact3#1
...etc
I just like to call my friends and keep up with them, without constantly needing to manually select another contact and use my hands.
also I would like to have ability call randomly and endlessly to my contacts
-so hands-free way to automatically call to many contact
2. issue
Then I like to have a way to cut extra useless extra seconds of operator play after miscall .
3.
I need statistical presentation of contacts activity
app that show each phone numbers activity such as a total text received all time for each contacts, calls.
so I can see which phone numbers are inactive
4.
I want able to have group message which all are unique and using
if in example I am sending 50 people same group message
I want each message to be unique like, in first line i want to able to have each receiving person contact name
xx person contact name xx rest message same
5.
how can I take off "refreshing" pop up android messaging search
thanks.

Divert Withheld Numbers to Voice message (not Voicemail)

I use Root Call Blocker to blacklist specific numbers, answer & hangup.
But I also want to deal with all withheld, unknown numbers. In that case I'd like them to redirect to a voice message saying Unknown numbers are not accepted. Don't want answer & hangup in this case. I'm even happy to pay £2 per month for an ip number where I can put that voice message. DO not want Unknown callers to be able to leave voicemail.
I want to keep normal voicemail useage for numbers that are ok, so changing that message is not an option.
Any ideas on how to do this ?

Dev Question Regarding Call and SMS Blocking Apps Spam

Wondering if any developers here can confirm the following:
I know the native Phone app and other Call apps have the ability to allow you to block numbers in which case the call doesn't ring through.
I thought like a couple years ago I read that's not the case with SMS apps. They can 'hide' the number from your SMS messages list but you'll still get the notification at the time the SMS is received. Is this true for all SMS apps for Android 11 or later or can they actually prevent notifications of received messages from numbers you block?
My second question is, on virtually all Phone / Call apps, you'll see the Caller ID Name for incoming calls (where the name isn't blocked, or the number isn't in your Contact list). I get semi-frequent scam/sales calls and they are all from numbers that no person or company name comes up, only the phone number. Since the Caller ID name is displayed when there is one, I would assume the Android Call apps have access to this data value.
Yet, all call blocking features I've seen in all apps I've tried, only have the ability to manually block the number, or, enable a setting to block all calls from numbers not in your Contact list. I'm just flabbergasted that none of these apps also have the option to "Block all calls with no Caller ID Name that are not in your contact list." If the Caller ID Name value comes across as the phone number itself, the app can easily see that it matches or that there are no letters in the Caller ID Name and block it. The only reason I can think of that this type of blocking feature isn't available in a single call app is that for some reason the Caller ID Name is displayed by the system, not the app, and the app doesn't have the ability to read the Caller ID Name Value? I would be really surprised if that were the case as it doesn't make sense that the app displays it but can't perform any feature based on the Caller ID Name value???
