Nope, AOSP is apart of the barebones ROM and not packaged in a gapps.
Put the file in /system/app and you're good to go. Root required.

Thats because you have to put it into /system/app and not install it as if it was any other application.

I placed it into system/app/ and rebooted and it does not appear. What do I do?

Did you grant the apk the correct permissions?

That worked!!! Thank you so much!

Hi guys - old thread but I have the same issue.
I am using Temasec's CM12.1 and also tried XenonHD rom and these only ship with the Google Keyboard, without symbols over letters. I am on 5.1.1 build.
I got the AOSP keyboard linked above, placed in system/app and repaired the permissions, but AOSP crashes every time I select it and as a result no keyboard shows up when I need to type something.
Anyone got any creative ideas on how to get full aosp kb functionality?

How to install the keyboard i try to push and that was a no go where do u push it too?
and i see why they took sprint zone out of every rom thats been release it keeps FC everytime i open it
I second being unable to install this. I was trying through Astro File Manager. It just says "Application Not Installed". If we were to push this, via ADB, where would we push the file?
You may need to create a flashable zip file and flash it. I am not quite sure how to do this but they have a few threads on how.
http://www.robmcghee.com/android/creating-an-android-update-zip-package/
I've try everything to installing this app but it keeps FC.
If you want to try and push it, remove the "HTC_IME. Apk" from system/apps/ then it should let you install it!
If anyone Knows how to fix this error with 2. 2 PLEASE POST IT

WiFi Tether app Themed

I got a little bored at work today and edited the wifi tether app. For those running Cyanogen roms it will go really well. It's not 100% complete, still a few minor things I want to change and a slight off center that I need to fix but like I said, it's minor. After the holiday I'll finish it up. Hope you enjoy it, suggestions are welcome but I'm fairly new to Photoshop and GIMP so I'll do my best.
This is 2.0.5 pre 14 (the latest) and it should work with any phone that already runs it.
It doesn't want to install. After pressing install it says "Application not installed". Strange because this one (same version) installs correctly, its just not themed http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...name=wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre14.apk&can=2&q=
Looks good!

That is strange, it installed on mine. Just out of curiosity, where is your current tether app installed to, /system/app or /data/app? For some reason when I tried to install it while booted (to /data/app) it did the same thing. I had to put it in my rom and reflash it, kind of the long way around. Maybe adb push and adb install would work also. If not, I'll pack it in a zip for you show you can flash it in recovery if you want.
Having the same installation problem...
Tried also with adb, seems to be an error with certificate, hoping you will make a flashable .zip
Ok, I've modified by me these app importing the themed file in the "standard" thether app, signing, and now it works.

Thanks for doing that. When I finish it and update it I'll make sure to resign it just in case. I'll DL it and update the post unless you want me to just put the link up that you have in your post.
EDIT: I just resigned mine (and renamed it), it should work now. If not use the link matiu posted.
Thanks heybobitsme, I'm new to photo editing but figured I should share what I manage to get done. If you have any suggestions, fire away.

Google Wallet for Verizon Galaxy S3

So I spent a lot of time trying to get this working, and I finally did and I figured I'd share how I did it. It works for me, and a user of Google + confirmed it too. It's pretty simple. Thanks to Dustin Evans on Google+ (https://plus.google.com/u/0/108019745978944993252/posts) and XDA user garner.
first, find your build.prop in /system. Please use Root Explorer, I'm not sure if other file browsers save it correctly. Mount Read/Write and long press on build.prop and hit "Open in text editor".
Change the following lines to look like this:
ro.product.model=SPH-L710
ro.product.name=d2spr
ro.product.device=d2spr
reboot after.
after that head here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1965895 and download the wallet apk. (not all the gapps, just the wallet apk). It should work!
Im running cm 10.1 but it also worked on cm 10.
also this is my first post, feedback?
EDIT: I know that there are other posts describing how to do this but I found that they either didn't work for me or involved more complex steps. I'm sharing this because i found it to be easier and completely successful.
You should have used the search function on here. Would have saved you tons of time trying to get it to work. Also you should be able to download the apk from the market once you change these settings inyour build.prop file as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1794727
Or you could just use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34896632 and it will change build.prop for you and install wallet!

thanks, but i knew that. i dont think you can just download it, as i did that and it didnt work so well. i know there are other methods, but those are sketchy and involve flashing a new recovery (the all in one installer). this is a more clean way that i got it to work.
just trying to share my experience
also this does not involve flashing anything
Nope, i changed the build.prop file, rebooted and it showed up in the market. Installed it and it works perfectly. The method i mentioned did say you to flash stuff, but that's with the touchwiz based roms. But it also does say pretty much do what you have said as well.
Insufficient privleges
I changed the build prop like shown and was able to download. But when app is ran it states that I have insufficient privileges for this system image. I am just running a rooted image of stock do I need to flash a new rom for it to work?

Yeah that just means you need to flash the Touchwiz libs zip file that's floating around the forums, then Wallet will work. I have the .zip file here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/lp7qj8odmhobwtu/D2VZW-Wallet-TW-JB-R81.zip

but it there a good tool that can fix glitched packages? my system thinks com.google.android.GoogleCamera is installed but I can't find it anywhere and any install of it is blocked x'D
for now I installed a modded one I found on xda that let's you have older + latest 4.2 with modified package name com.google.android.GoogleCameraMOD and it's working....
Are you on Pure Nexus, by chance? I know you're not stock since you mentioned 7.1.2. If you're using that ROM, in the download section underneath the ROM and gapps, there's a camera fix zip and you need to flash that as well. @GizmoTheGreen

[Pie] Apps ported to oreo

Hello, I am here to share the pie apps from the latest beta builds, as a recent thread similar to this has been closed due to OP descretion, I have had numerous messages to open another one so here it is peeps.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS OR BRICKED DEVICES, DEAD SDCARDS OR ANY OTHER ISSUE CAUSED TO YOUR DEVICE BY THESE APPS YOU ARE FLASHING AT YOUR OWN RISK. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Installation methods (Both require a permissive kernel)
Method 1: Installing as a normal apk
This method is the simplest of the two, in this method all you simply need to do is install the apk file, however the catch is that your signature verification needs fully disabling for all apks and you need a permissive kernel on top of that for some apps (Eg. Edge Screen).
Method 2: Root install(Pushing into system
This is the slightly harder method of the two but still easy to do.
Requirements:
Root
Any root browser
Open root browswer and make sure system is set to R/W, then copy and paste the apks into their respective folders (Eg. Messages apk goes into SamsungMessages_10.0 folder)
Settings Permissions
Folder Permissions: 755 (rwx r-x r-x)
Apk permissions: 644 (rw- r-- r--)
After all that is completed simply reboot.
