Hi guys, im thinking about to get a moto G recently, however i found out that google play has Google Play Edition and the Motorolla USA website has this global eidition. I am wondering wat would be the differences between them, and which one i should go for it if i would like to play with some of these custom roms from this forum.
Thanks

google edition consists of pure stock rom as the one you would find on nexus devices but global one would consist of motorolla bloatware..

So I am planning to get a Moto G for my wife and I am wondering which edition to get. As I understand both the stock and Google Play editions are the same price. But will there be any benefits of one over the other if I plan to install a custom ROM on it anyway? Also you can flash Google Stock images on the normal Moto G? Is that correct? And also when you buy the phone from the Motorola website you choose which version to get the Global GSM or US GSM. which version will you get if you buy it from Google?

The Google Play Moto G is XT1032 (the global gsm model). As I understand, you can easily convert the normal one from motorola (either global or US gsm) to a play edition rom if you want to. See the Mototool thread in the original development section of this forum for details on how to do so. As for custom roms, both versions (xt1034, xt1032, and xt1032 GPE) are fully supported by all roms as far as I can tell (please, I would be happy if someone would correct me if I'm wrong about that). I'm personally happy with my 16GB US version running stock kit kat with xposed framework and a number of modules.
I want the moderator to ban me.
I'm thinking of purchasing a moto g heading toward the GPE. Just want something to mess with here and there even though I don't really need it. I have a gs5 (at&t) which currently has nothing for now so I'd figure I'd buy a moto g since it's the best cheapest nexus like device out right now. With that being said..if I purchase a GPE Moto G will I be able to flash roms in the development thread? Is there any difference between the GPE and the orig. Moto g? Just want to know before I buy one.
Thanks in advance

just purchase the normal xt1032 moto g. it's cheaper than the gpe edition. you can also flash the gpe edition rom onto it if you unlock the bootloader. you will get updates and everything just like you would with the gpe edition. only difference is you need to have an unlocked bootloader

I have a Galaxy s4 gt-i9505, is it possible to completely convert it to a i9505G google play edition version? I'm not just talking about flashing a google edition rom onto the phone that someone has ported over, but to completely transform it into the i9505g so the device will be exactly the same as if I had brought it as google play edition, i.e. replace samsungs bootloader with googles own bootloader and any other software modification that may be required. I know that on hardware level, they are both the same device so is it currently possible to do so?
Also does anyone have direct links to download google play edition firmware for the s4? I can find nexus firmware on googles website but not s4 google edition firmware.
I apologise if I sound like and idiot and if i'm missing something really obvious but I don't know much about how android layers work etc. I've rooted my phone and flashed another rom on it successfuly before.
Thanks for all the help!

Not really sure about it, but if you have FM radio app installed then you don't have GPe.
Im running paranoid rom, not stock and thats the problem
I bought my phone from Tesco UK maybe this says something about version?
You can only buy GPE directly from Google.

Hi all,
I've tried googling around and searching the forums here for this question but I can't seem to find the exact scenario I'm looking for. Sorry if it's a bit of a noob question.
I recently bought an unlocked Moto G 4G from Amazon (Moto's edition, not GPE) and I'm currently using it on T-mobile. When Lollipop is eventually released, will I receive an OTA update from Google? Or will I receive it at all? I ask because I know T-mobile doesn't actually offer the Moto G so I can't imagine the update coming from them. I'm just wondering if I'll have to do some work myself to get it on the device or if I'll get something automatically.
Thanks for any help.

The first part of your question Iv answered in this thread

The second half of your question is if you bought it from a retailer sim free you will get an update direct from Motorola
In about phone if it says peregrine_ret then your country then it's the retail version
You can also check the Motorola website as it will list release date when they announce it

You will get it directly from Motorola, at the same time as all the other retail moto Gs in your part of the world.

My phone does say peregrine_ret under about phone. So that would mean I'll get an update from Motorola when they release their Lollipop version for the G, right? Thanks for your help!

You should do long as you are on stock rom and don't have any xposed modules which break otas installed but you can always flash a fresh stock rom if that is the case in order to upgrade
