I initially rooted by OPO without wiping data but today I decided to unlock the bootloader and root it the regular way.
I used fastboot oem unlock and then flashed TWRP using fastboot flash recovery recovery.img onto my OPO.
After this, when I go into recovery mode it still shows as Cyangenmod Simple Recovery instead of TWRP..
What gives and how do I get it to use TWRP?

Did you remember to uncheck the 'update cm recovery' option in Developer Options?

So I have my bootloader unlocked, but for some reason I can't flash a recovery (CWM or TWRP). I've tried to flash recovery through fastboot using adb fastboot commands, mfastboot commands, and mototool aio. I've also tried to flash recovery through rom manager and rashr. ( I am rooted )
cmd: getvar:max-download--size
cmd: download:007b1800
cmd: flash:recovery
mismatched partition size (recovery)

Whenever trying to enter recovery afterwards. I get the warning bootloader unlocked motorolla screen for .1s before going back to fastboot.
Can anyone point me towards what I should be doing please? Thank you
Is the phone being detected when you type "adb devices" in cmd window ?
If not you need to install correct and drivers, then in while in the boot loader type "fastboot flash recovery RECOVERYNAME.img" obviously you change it to your Recovery's image file and it has to be in the directory with adb and fastboot of course.

Yes it is, it is detected as the phone boots ( it still boots to the stock rom ) and detected in fastboot as w ell.
edit:
to clarify, this is on 4.4.3 if it matters

I guess I didn't look up as well as I should have. So even with an unlocked bootloader, there are no recoveries out for 4.4.3 ?

I've tried like 5 recoveries so far. i just tried cwm 6.0.4.5 and now i can't even get into the bootloader, (adb reboot recovery, as well as holding recovery keys at phone turn on) just goes into the rom now. Does it sound like i have to recover everything to stock now?
Not sure that it matters, but I am rooted if that helps or gives you ideas for any other options
edit: through rom manager i was able to reflash the latest CWM and now i have bootloader access back. I still can't get into any recovery though.

You can try to go back to stock, and after, flash a custom recovery and see what happens

Ok, I guess I'll try that tomorrow. The thing I'm wondering is, If it doesn't work flashing through fastboot, outside of the ROM, how would reverting back to stock help at all? A stock flash shouldn't change the bootloader at all?
bump : (
Okay so I received my opo today and wanted to unlock and root etc.. I managed to install drivers and download a toolkit which managed to unlock my bootloader but wouldn't flash the recovery so I attempted it manually via fastboot and after flashing it would reboot to a back screen then vibrate and reboot to system.. Been doing that all night? Any ideas? many thanks in advance new to this phone
Exactly what recovery version are you trying to flash? What OS is on the phone? Get rid of the toolkit, they're nothing but trouble.
Twrp 2.8.1. And its running android 4.4.4 cyanogen mod.. I have mate haha. I take it fastboot and adb are installed correctly as it shows my opo after typing fastboot devices and it unlocked my boot loader soo I'm confused

Try flashing the recovery again, followed by this command
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Then:
Code:
fastboot reboot
Then try booting into recovery.
PS. You've unchecked the "update CM recovery" option in Developer Options, right?
same problem for me. tried manually installing any custom recovery, tried two different toolkits. it flashes and reboots, but then you can never enter the recovery app. even attempting to put stock back fails. i attempted the format the cache and that didn't do a thing for me. basically had to enable cm recovery updates and reset to factory in the os. after that i was back to scratch at least.
I was able to figure it out. Appears the version of TWRP is quite particular for some reason. Once I tried the latest build from here dl dot twrp dot me/bacon/ the problem was solved. Thanks for the tip @snickler

Maybe your bootloader is not unlocked.
I have also that doubt so i have run oem unlock command again but that said unlocked and dont ask confirmation of press volume up button to start unlock. And if you tried flas recovery command while your bootloader is locked then you got error said that you have to unlock bootloader to do this. You can not complete the flashing process. I have rooted all of my phones and never face such problem.

K man actually i don't hav yuphoria for now! I m buying it in this weekend. But i think you can download slimlp rom for yuphoria and extract the boot.img from zip and can flash. I really hav no idea of how to flash .img file on yu devices. I use slimlp on my xperia z and use flashtool and twrp is its default recovery.i think you will also get twrp recovery after flashing boot.img of slimlp for yuphoria.
porblem solved. Here is link

I didnt get anything from the post. you have to be little bit specific.
i mean you
1. unlocked bootloader(fine)
2. installed twrp(also fine)
3. installed cm13(great)
4. you reverted back to stock rom??? How from twrp, flashfire or fastboot.?
and now how are you trying to install twrp? from fastboot?
Flash twrp image with fastboot, start TWRP, reboot recovery within TWRP, then twrp sticks... profit.

TWRP is not sticking...
1) Start the bootloader, flash TWRP in fastboot with the command: fastboot flash recovery twrp.img (Replace twrp.img with the name of the TWRP img file)
2) Press VOL DN to start Recovery and select it, TWRP should start... When prompted if you should allow changes to system, say YES or allow or whatever so that is allowed to mount system as read-write.
3) In the TWRP main menu, select Reboot, then Reboot - Recovery
4) The device will restart and TWRP will start again, if asked to allow changed changes to system again, allow it
5) Go to Mounts and make sure Mount System Read-Only is NOT ticked
6) Press Home, then Reboot and Reboot Recovery again
TWRP will start again and be set, it will not go away unless you flash something with a recovery.img in the file (custom ROMs do not normally contain this file).

At what point? What command are you using to perform the flash?
I'm sorry... I've just done this on numerous G3's and what you are describing doesn't just happen for no reason... either the initial flash was done incorrectly, the process to set it was not followed, or there is actually a defect in the device (which is unlikely if TWRP boots even once after bring flashed).

NEVER USE KINGROOT OR KINGOROOT on a Moto G3 with Marshmallow, it will soft brick... We have seen at least a half dozen specific examples by experienced users... Somehow you got lucky, but I would never recommend this method to a user.
Now, once rooted Flashify is a viable option.
Hey. I just flashed a stock rom and re-locked the bootloader, in order to unlock it, get twrp, get a custom rom (likely lineage) and root with magisk (it seems better than superSU, no?) without any toolkit, because i want to get some knowledge about android.
I downloaded adb and fastboot, enabled USB debugging, booted my nexus 4 on bootloader mode, and I used 3 commands after opening the command prompt from the folder containing fastboot. I also downloaded the latest img of TWRP for nexus 4 and renamed it "twrp" and put it on the folder.
The 3 commands I used are : "fastboot OEM unlock", "fastboot erase recovery", "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img"
But when the phone tries to boot the recovery, I get this : puu.sh/wWTjC/6cf11a9a32.jpg
and it doesnt work ofc.
Furthermore, I can't boot the ROM, I can only boot the recovery and the bootloader. When I try to boot the Rom, i get the recovery.
can someone help me please?
thanks
Hello,
The problem is that the recovery is unable to mount the /data partition, what you need to do is repair it by the following steps
1.Go to TWRP main screen
2.Press wipe
3.press advanced wipe
4.tick data
5.press repair and change file system
6.press repair
7.wipe the arrow
NOTE: this will format the data partition
now reboot to recovery again and check if the problem is fixed
Hello, the problem is I cant reach the main menu of TWRP, after getting what I screened, my phone reboots on TWRP again, and again...
I also tried the command "fastboot boot twrp.img" and i get the same result.
where did you get the twrp from ?
i would in such case as twrp is having troubles first try to find a working version of it, and it it didn't work i would reflash to stock stock and start from scratch
I got twrp there : dl.twrp.me/mako/
i took the latest version.
Get the cwm recovery for your device, wipe data , then try reflashing the twrp recovery
It's ok, thanks

did that help ? hopefully?
hmm, I thought it did, but i actually get the same problem, and I can't launch neither cwm nor twrp..
Once yo reinstall twrp
Go to wipe the format data to remove encryption
You can also use cwm to flash the ROM
