Hello All,
I have made up my mind to buy a Nexus S now. But I wanted some inputs from you guys before I go ahead and buy it. So here are my questions,
1) Nexus S version available here in India is a Super LCD version. Cost $400, worth it ?
2) Compared to other phones I am sure, "pure google experience" will be great on this phone. Am I right ?
3)Google (Galaxy) Nexus Prime is due next week. Cost of that will certainly be around $600(not tied to carrier). In the wake of this, I feel Nexus S is a better buy.
4)Will Nexus S actually run ICS and further ?
5)As a phone, how would you rate it?
I would try to get the SAMOLED one. Look on eBay or something. I bought the LCD one to compare with my SAMOLED. In my opinion it felt quite a bit thicker and heavier. The screen was a little sharper for sure but it was much less responsive for some reason. I had to tap the keyboard a few times for it to register properly. Also, the blacks, which r the biggest part of the UI for gingerbread and ics, don't look very good on an LCD. And overall, the nexus s is the best phone I've used. I've had pretty much every phone and like this the best.

I've loved the Nexus S. yes we will definately get the ICS update.
Nexus Prime (or whatever) will be out within the next month or so. The Nexus S is a great phone and I love it but it technically is a last generation phone in terms of specs. I would wait for the Prime. If you like what you see, get the Prime, if not the price of the Nexus S should drop.
You could wait till the prime comes out might drive the price down on ether nexus s
But that said its not worth signing a two year contract for, not sure if thatd how it goes on the other side of the pond

Love the Nexus S. I would wait for second generation dual core and buy Nexus S now. By then the price should be down and the software will make use of dual core.

I had the same dilema. I used to own a Galaxy S (SAMOLED version) and I was wondering if I should keep it until the Nexus Prime will come out or to go first through Nexus S.
I chose to go with Nexus S (S-LCD version). Indeed, the blacks are not so deep as the SAMOLED but there are upsides also: 1. S-LCD is MUCH brighter and outdoor visibility is greatly improved; 2. The images do look sharper and also the colors saturation are more natural compared to the vivid ones on the SAMOLED; 3. there is no risk of screen burn-out at all .. so you can use whatever themes with static images as you like.
As for the Nexus Prime: it will come out at around $800 USD (in the begining) and you will find it at ~$500 USD or maybe less after at leat 3-4 months after launch (these are contract-free costs). Looking at this situation I prefer to wait about half year to upgrade to the Prime version. And by doing that I also take no risk in hitting the early OS version bugs.
Just my 2 cents ....

$800 USD off contract? Yeah right. It'll be $530 range off-contract day one. Every off-contract phone is around ~$530 including the Galaxy S2 for T-Mobile.
You're in Romania, so it may be $800 USD there.. but in the U.S. its $529.99
In Europe we get all the gizmos in euro currency but w/o any conversion from USD. A $100 device will cost here €100. So you see ... not everyone gets lucky.

Guys, I really appreciate all your replies. Considering the fact that the Nexus S Super LCD version is $400(without contract, In India mostly thats how it works. Buy an unlocked phone, pop in any sim and use it), I thought I would go for it. I badly need a phone right now. The Prime is about 6 months away.
The prime is certainly not 6 months away.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
For certain parts of the world it is. Maybe not 6 months ... but at least three.
The dual core processor is a big improvement
I own the nexus s (original OLED) and my GF owns a Galaxy S2.
The speed of the GS2 is noticeable faster and the battery last longer. The problem is that is too big for a man carrying it in his pocket.
If you need a new phone now and you are OK with its size get the GS2. If you want a "google" experience install ROM. It will get the ICS for sure.
If you need a phone now and the GS2 is too big get the nexus s (a lot of members in this forum like the SLCD more than the OLED)
If you can wait get the new nexus prime...

Bhaisaab, wait until nexus prime is announced. Even if the price is too high then at least the nexus S will become cheaper.

I don't know how the Nexus S can get cheaper. You can get the Nexus S I9023 in germany for 237,- Euro while the Nexus One still cost 249,- Euro. I just stumbled over it and now thinking about selling my lovely Nexus One for a Nexus S, because i am not buying a Nexus Prime for 500+ Euro.
Again, thanks for all your replies. I am gonna wait for Nexus Prime. If the screen size is 4.65 inches as told in many places on web then I will go for Nexus S(hoping that price will drop further).
What do you guys say about the Sony Ericsson, Xperia Mini ST15i as a temporary phone? Its about $250. Its got great processor, RAM, Camera. Great graphics, but small screen.

That is a pretty general question that is hard to answer, because it is depends on what you value. The simple answer is that the N5 is basically one-year newer in terms of the hardware inside, has a little bigger screen, and supports 4g LTE. There are a lot of other minor differences, so I suggest googling Nexus 5 vs Nexus 4, because there are a few articles already out there that discuss the differences. More impressions will probably follow as more people get their hands on the Nexus 5.
Either device can do all the cool smartphone stuff you could want them to do right now, but the Nexus 5 will be a little more future-proof since the hardware in it is a year newer and it will get system updates longer. Whether that and the other differences are worth the $100 difference is up to you.
Of course get the newer phone ... what a silly question

If you like/need latest and greatest, or any of the features unique to the N5 are must-haves, then go for it. If not, the N4 is still a fantastic device and will be for a few years yet, and may save you some money. A good condition N4 can be had for about half the price of a new N5.
I find the screen to be the perfect size for me. I did have a note 2 which was too big. I really like the size of this phone.

Well, I'd say you can hardly get a totally unbiased opinion in here since most of us are here for the Nexus 5. We wont even know it if we're being biased. How about get some opinion from tech media such as Cnet, Engadget, etc. Oh, dont go to The Verge, cause that's iVerge.

i think i'll go with nexus 5, but some friends told me is good the HTC one too, which do you prefer within nexus 5 and htc oe?
also do you advice the 16 gb nexus 5 black/white or the 32 gb nexus 5 black/white? is the 32 gb really worth or 16 gb is enogh??
@killomp if your going to get the HTC ONE, Just wait for the second Gen. The NX5 is better then OG ONE in almsot every way behinds viewing angle and possible light bleed and not being made of aluminum (the one is also an uncomfortable tall device to hold IMHO)

SO, to put it in perspective, you've pretty much got better everything. I like the Nexus 4. It's got a great feel to it but the glass back kind of puts me off (even though it was fixed in later models). It's got last year's best tech whereas the nexus 5 has this year's best tech or pretty much about as good as you'd need it really...
For me, when you take hardware out, I think the Nexus 5 has a much better feel. It's slightly curved back is really enjoyable and comfortable as opposed to the Nexus 4's flat back. I prefer the matte finish instead of the Glass back. It's also a lot more low profile. I personally prefer the Nexus 5 a lot more. Better hardware and a more comfortable feel for me.
Basically it really comes down to your budget. They're both entirely usable phones with great hardware that is more than sufficient for running pretty much anything. If you feel you could blow that extra $100 then by all means, go for the Nexus 5. But you can't go wrong with the Nexus 4 either

I just saw your last post
The HTC One is beautiful. Just got about the most premium feel to any phone i've seen. But I'm pretty sure the HTC One will cost a lot more dollars than the Nexus 5 or Nexus 4. In Canada at least, it's like $300-$400 CAD difference
If you can afford it, get the LG G2 instead. It's similar to N5 but with much better battery life

If you are waiting for Google Play Store, please don't wait for them. The best you can do is get free shipping or playstore credit. For retail, the price starts to come down after a few months. If it is close to Christmas, Easter or any major holidays then there are great deals to be taken.
On a new device like this, Google doesn't usually reduce the price. They may offer additional incentives for the holiday season, such as Play Store credit, free shipping, etc., but that's about it. The price won't be reduced until just before the next nexus phone is released, probably 4th quarter 2014. Of course, there's always the possibility of some crazy event affecting the norm... but I wouldn't count on it.
Phone is already cheap for what you get. Check out the Moto G for $200.

I am fine with paying $349.That is a great price for the phone. What I am trying to decide is whether to purchase it now or wait for February when I will actually get to use the phone. I want to purchase it now, so that I can have it already. However, if it it might get reduced between now and then, it would be wise to wait. In the past have the prices stayed constant until the new model came out?

I'm done with Galaxy phones too. I booted up my S4 today to update it to the new MK2 OTA update because I'm getting it ready to sell. After a few weeks with my N5 I had already forgotten what a pain in the a$$ Knox is. Never again!
Im in the hunt for a new phone. Ive been thinking about buying the new Z3 Compact when its launched but I cannot stand the modified android version the different manufacturers are using, I HAVE to run vanilla or close to it. I know I could root any phone and install stock android on it but im not sure if its worth the hassle for me considering it takes time to make a stable rom etc.
The perfect phone would be a smaller Nexus 5 in my mind, good usability in one hand and fast updates. I guess it wont exist in the near future tho?
Is it a smart decision to buy the Nexus 5 today?
Get one. If you don't like it you can return it. Only you can decide if you like the N5

Different colours for different schmullers. Pick whats best for you. This also goes for custom roms. Dont ask us when you get it what rom you should use. Please just make up your own mind.
You have had help deciding whether or not to get the nexus 5 I think it is best you decide which color you like when you get to the store or if your purchasing online then look at the colors there. The color part isn't much of a big deal and mainly comes down to personal preference. So I think it would be best for you to decide on your own

Should I get the OPO, or wait for the confirmed OnePlus Two? I mean, in a blog post, 3 winners of a photo contest get hands on w/ the two in hong kong. It's coming in Q3. Should I wait? Or gun it? I am stuck w/ an apple iphone 5 so :/
You should go for it. The price doesn't get better than what it is right now, $249 for the 64GB, and $349 with one year of Dropbox Pro. Plus, I read somewhere that OP is going to use the invite system to sell the OP2, which unless you don't mind the hassle is kind of a pain in the ass. I am keeping mine until I get more details about the OP2, if it doesn't come with a fingerprint support, I will probably move to next Nexus 6, but keep the OPO as my back up phone.

If I was faced with the same decision I'd still buy the OnePlus One now. It's cheap, you don't need an invite anymore, and it's a beast of a phone. The OnePlus Two isn't going to be as cheap, and they'll be reverting to the invite system again.

It's hard to know to be honest... I've had the OPO since July of last year and, as everyone in this thread has said, it's an amazing phone, and that doesn't even include the price. I would say it depends on what you're interested in. If you like having the 'latest and greatest' phone with the newest CPU / GPU and most RAM (like me ) etc, I'd wait. But if you just want a great phone that will be able to run the next few versions of Android and all the apps in the world (minus some future games that require OpenGL ES 3.1 or something, but that's a good way off yet!) and has a great community to back that up (even when OnePlus leave it behind), as well as an amazing price, I'd go for it.
Had the same kinda question facing me. Stick with my Nexus 5 until the end of the year when the OP2 or new Nexus' are out, or go for the OPO.
Went for the OPO. Blows my N5 out of the water and will take me until the end of the year. If the phones i mentioned above are too expensive I'm happy keeping the OPO into next year.
Helps i got £100 for my N5.
Feels like such a premium phone. Took it to work on Friday and people were amazed that it cost so little.
Still a fantastic phone for the price had mine well over a year and still going strong was considering upgrading this month but I am sticking with the OPO for longer. It does everything I need on a phone the screen is still good, battery life is excellent, takes decent daylight photos and is fluid on CM12.1.

Hey guys, this seems like the most relevant thread to post in, but I agree with some of the previous comments, I really like the specs on the OPO, I currently have an HTC M8, with the same chipset, which runs phenomenal, however AOSP ROMS aren't the best for HTC Devices, they've always suffered from a lot of bugs, and GPE support has started to lag behind with the M9 being out.
I just purchased a 64gb model and am anxiously awaiting for it to arrive. My question is, how is the overall build quality of this device? I wasn't impressed with the N5 build quality and from videos and pics, this phone looks solid, but I've read about numerous users complaining about touch screen issues. Is this phone pretty solid? And how are AOSP ROMS on this device? Pretty bug free? Thanks!
