Contact photos show up as dotview? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

I have a few friends in my phone with photos, but they all show up as the dotview look.
Is there a way to fix this?

Yes...you need to redo their saved pic or if it's an imported one tell them to redo theirs. The dot view is your phone's way of telling you the contact photo is low resolution. Google upped the size a year or so ago and no one ever updated their pics.

ICS Highres contact pictures

Can this finally mean the 5 year old Google *bug* is solved?

No more crappy resolution contact images for Google contacts? I can't wait to see incoming call photo to be displayed with proper pixel resolution.
Could someone check this on ICS? Maybe the contact image resolution specs are in the SDK?
~220 views but found the answer myself:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-4.0.html
"Large photos
Android now supports high resolution photos for contacts. Now, when you push a photo into a contact record, the system processes it into both a 96x96 thumbnail (as it has previously) and a 256x256 "display photo" that's stored in a new file-based photo store (the exact dimensions that the system chooses may vary in the future). You can add a large photo to a contact by putting a large photo in the usual PHOTO column of a data row, which the system will then process into the appropriate thumbnail and display photo records"

If you use facebook, Sync your contacts with Facebook For HTC Sense and you'll get high res display pictures.

Guys,
My Sensation XE will be arriving soon, so, no experience with Android yet.
The question is does HTC Sync actually sync high-res pictures with Outlook?

But how? I can't make it in contacts app. Even if I select high quality photo its pixalated in contacts list or call screen. Am I missing something here?
I always use Outlook to sync my contacts! On GB Roms they look fine but on ICS the pictures totaly blury and full of pixels.
EDIT: Just have tested it if htey are better when i make a new contact and add a new Picture, but no the photo is totaly blury and looks very very bad!
Many so called high res photos look like **** when you crop out a persons face btw. So don't crop too much.

Low Resolution Contacts?

I know there is an existing 'bug' in Android that prevents high-resolution contact photos from getting synced, and there appear to be some apps that seek to work around this issue (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1621031) - but I still can't find anything that would actually support the resolution of the One X, and frankly I'm kind of surprised HTC hasn't already considered this.
Does anyone know of a way to get 720x720 pixel contact photos on our phones?
There is a workaround, but it requires you making a duplicate phone contact and then linking it with the google contact. Once linked, edit the contact and click on the contact photo. Select the phone contact picture and save. It's a pain, but at least it can be done.

Hmm - that helps a little, but it still seems to be restricted to the ICS limit of 256x256 pixels (better than Gmail's 96x96, for sure, but still...).
Is there a setting somewhere that can increase the limit further? (When you view the contact details on the phone, the image is stretched to the full width of the phone, which means we need to be able to do 720x720 to get full res.)

I know you could end up with hundreds of photos of your pocket etc with this option but if it was a quick toggle or something.
Also works great with Galaxy SIII....

Audio recording for around a minute, basically to see if anyone is talking about you?
Or option to hide the gallery just in case they get in your phone and have a poke around?
Some ideas: include option to use custom alarm, and or option to record voice. I would record "Hey! What are you doing!" lol
Option to send/save pictures to email, dropbox, box, google drive, etc
Option to change sound alarm after x attempts
Allow clearing all records or individually delete records
and 9000+ more
The photos can be seen from the gallery. Make it save to a folder with a. Nomedia file, so the gallery doesn't see it

Taking the photo with the front camera is very usefull but it would be more useful if you have a GPS coordinates for that photo. I know that getting a lock from GPS could take several seconds but there's no hurry having the photo uploaded to Dropbox. I would prefer a switch in the app to enable GPS coordinates and then make a little JPG image with the taken photo and the coordinates below(or another JPG file with coordinates so Dropbox client upload it a minute later).
Geotagged photos would be helpful?(I have no idea how geotagged photos work if I open them at Dropbox from a Windows computer). I'm thinking about the stolen phone case. You would receive a photo of the thief and geolocalization, all in Dropbox.
Thanks for this great app!
Geotagging
I would love to see it include Geotagging data. Latitude and Longitude are stored in the EXIF data if the GPS and camera settings are configured appropriately. An option in Hidden Eye to enable GPS and geotag the image would be great.
How the phone owner retrieves that data from the picture is up to them, but a quick Google search shows lots of options including iPhoto and Picasa.
id like some easy features like picture after x amount of wrong quesses, and possibility to send mail/sms after x more failed tries.
Then little harder features like live gps location from say googlemaps. depends on how advanced program you are going to make this, but remote alarm by mail/sms with message. also 10000+ more if its going to be really advanced

+1 to:
-> Autoupload to Dropbox, Box or Drive cloud services
-> Geolocation
-> Audio recording+
-> Include .nomedia in folder and hide the snapshots
Turn on GPS and data to send Location, auto email photo and location to gmail, not everyone uses dropbox

Just wanted to say thanks for the app, hopefully my request is included for taking a photo without a pattern/pin lockscreen. I used this recently to catch someone snooping through my phone, but had to put a pattern lock on first. They denied they were doing it until I presented them with the evidence.

Transferring pictures to new phone question...

Going to be going from a 16GB to 32GB Nexus 5 shortly... I remember when I transferred my pictures from my old Galaxy Nexus to my N5 all of my pictures were jumbled up in no particular order. I recall doing a search fora solution after that but didn't come up with anything concrete. I don't want to go through adding them 1 by 1 again since I now have over 1500 pictures and 100+ videos. Any advice to make this easy?

Well if they are from two different types of phones, obviously they will be jumbled up due to the different naming scheme. Maybe organize them into folders on a computer and then transfer them, keeping them in folders on your device.
Just upload them to google+. They will be organised by date, and you dont have to worry about filling your storage with pictures

I have them organized in folders currently (also uploaded to my google drive - not plus). Does uploading to plus keep the folder format intact?

Yes, you can organize your photos into folders on Google+
they will stay in the same folders on your phone, nut the uploaded copies will be organised by date in the photos app that comes instead of the gallery with lollipop

Maybe if you auto upload. But if you have your files on a computer, you can create folders in Google+ and transfer them into whichever folder you want. Or if they are on your device, I use Picasa Tool to upload to specific folders. They show up in folders in the photo app.
I didn't know you could do that. Thanks for the tip
So if I was to use the G+ and upload them from my PC to G+ and then pull them back from G+ to my new phone I can have them stay in the same folders and be organized by the correct date?
I just had a look, and apparently you can set up google+ to show folders from your drive accout as albums. You just have to enable it in the photos settings page

Once you upload them and organize them in folders, you will be able to view them from your phone just how they are on G+. Just upload them and open up the Photos app. They will be in "Albums" in the photos app.

QuickPic has the option too. Just slide from the left side of the screen and add it.
So I checked the show Google drive photos in quickpic and sure enough they are there in the folders just like I uploaded them... sadly though they are not in the correct order. Even listed by "date decend" they are kinda mixed and matched

Sometimes there is nothing you can do about it unless you edit every photos details manually. I have photos uploaded from three different phones that I have had over the past years and there are some out of order. Things that could cause this could be editing the photo. It might save the photo with the date you edited it. Using a different camera app that may not have saved all the info correctly. Basically, unless you are using the same camera, same app, and never modified an image, you will probably have some images out of order.
Be a good time to ditch the junk. Why not print the best on nice paper, frame and make your wife's dimples show!

Pictures duplication

When I send a pic through text, that same pic would get saved in the gallery. If I send the same pic to 5 different people, that same pic would get duplicated and saved 5 times in my gallery. How do I terminate that? TIA

I've noticed this since the note 3.
I just use SD maid to remove duplicate files and keep the oldest.
I finally figured this "problem" out. When you share pics it moves them into a separate folder and duplicates it. Somewhere, you can look up all the pics shared between you and another person. What I do is just drop down albums to look at the camera album instead of all pics by time.
