[Q] Completely stock unrooted and stil locked to at&t..work with starighttalk data?
Hello
and sorry it was asked before ...
I will be buying it from an att store locally ... and I already have an att compatible ST SIM new .... If I open the SR new from box and locked , can I use the ST SIM and change the default apn setting to the ST values ? cause somebody said he couldn't change the default SR apn setting to work with ST data...
Thanks
It won't work stock and unrooted. Flash a custom 2.3.6 from with ucla3 kernel and radio. I highly recommend super lite 3.1, it will flash everything u need, one shot

is the same situation applied if it was the original galaxy s2 (not LTE) ?
and is it the same thing if unlocked ?
cause I need everything stock , unrooted
It works just fine. Stock and Unrooted. The ST sim uses the ATT service and towers. Create an APN and set the value at att.mvno. Call it what you want. The phone doesnt even need to be unlocked. ST sims are basically ATT sims. They also do not come sim locked, which is good.

Thanks a million...That's also what I know !!
but this contradiciotn kills me ... Have you done it yourself ?
a dude on howard forums had a hard time changing the apn in his skyrocket(bought from att new locked) , he said he couldn't change it and end up with calls+sms+edge data (I guess because his apn rejected and the device returns to the stock apn always)...
and can you delete the oem apn in the skyrocket ? is it stored in the phone or in SIM ?
Can you please contribute to this ?

It depends on what ST Sim you are using. If you check ST sim website, you are asked whether you have att or tmobile handset.

ofcourse I am talking about att compatible SIM...that's a no brainer
You can order an att compatible Sim directly from them. And I know it works because i'm posting this post from an I727 on straighttalk. Just set the apn at att.mvno . Skyrocket with unlimited talk, text, and data for $45 a month. Beat that? No way
Thanks alot Ends.........I already have the SIM from ST (att SIM)
Did you buy your Skyrocket locked ? or unlocked ?
Is it rooted , or stock ?
Did you have any problems setting the ST apn ? and can you delete the old default apn from this skyrocket ?
My phone was bare bone stock when I got it. It isn't now but my straight talk Sim has worked from day one. You won't be able to delete the factory set apn but you can always add and delete others. Just add a new apn and your set. "att.mvno"

Sorry. Havnt followed the tread. But yes, MMS will work as soon as the APN is set. You MUST have data working before MMS will work. You'll be good to go.
Actually if the art phone has locked att pan then u can not receive or send mms. Iam trying to find out how to delete locked att pan.

Ive never seen a phone where you couldn't add or change the apn. Not saying they dont exist. I just dont know about it. All andriod OS's, iOS, and symbian(nokia) OS's all allow apn altercation. Blackberry I'm sure does as well, but I can't say with absolute certainty so I wont testify either way.
To answer the OP correctly, yes it will work on stock unrooted locked S2 (as long as you have the ST SIM for ATT phones). You need to install ST APN for data but that's easy. It's done either manually or if they have an app, the app will do it automatically for you. I've got a Red Pocket Mobile sim in the phone right now, works great. Also have one in the kids Ipuck 3gs (no jailbreak) and it works great. Any sim as long as it's made for ATT phones will work on locked ATT phones. The only thing that's different is your data speed will not be LTE if you use LTE phone. Data speeds are almost always slower for the MVNO's.

I thought the m8 was already Sim unlocked from the get-go.
Me too but I'm using a h2o sim (att) and I'm getting a non Verizon SIM error plus I can't send or receive pics...so I think I should say SIM unlock lol

Yeah, idk about the unknown Sim message. Are your carrier settings all correct? Other than that much I'm not much help as I'm strictly on Verizon
You need to put H2O's APN settings, just like you need to with ANY phone that you use H2O on. All Verizon LTE phones are SIM unlocked.

All current models may be, but this hasn't always been true. My previous phone, a Droid Razr MAXX, is LTE but would not work with US GSM carriers. It would work fine outside of North America with a locally-provided SIM, however.
Right, should have mentioned "since late 2012" or something like that. Point being though, his M8 is already unlocked.
All of Verizon's LTE enabled smartphones are required to be SIM unlocked by the agreement of the spectrum auction. The frequency bands they use for LTE are part of that spectrum. However, just because it's SIM unlocked, doesn't make it plug and play. You need the APN info for the carrier you are trying to use.
I took my Galaxy S4 to St. Maarten and rented a SIM card. Took me an hour to get it working correctly because the moron working in the store had no clue what the settings were. I had to call a number from their store and sit on hold with a CS rep for the carrier to get the proper APN settings. WHen you have a verizon sim installed, you cannot alter the APN settings. They are locked for VZW....but when you remove it and insert another carrier....well then you can enter them.

No, but I am a dealer. Make sure you are selecting the APN after you put it in too. Actually you should probably call them, you used to be able to just put in a single APN, but the last time I had to put in two different ones, which makes absolutely no sense since you can only be using one of them. If this doesn't work, give them a call...
Name: H2O Wireless (or whatever you want, really)
APN: att.mvno

MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.33
MMS Proxy Port: 80
Make sure you hit menu - save, then select that APN. Do not put any other settings in or change anything else.

Hey guys I want to take my Verizon branded m8 over to straight talk with ATT SIM. So far I've rooted , s off'd and did supercid. Is it as easy as installing ATT RUU and installing straight talk SIM card?
I've seen in the threads that other people have done this but will 4g or LTE still work?
Thanks for any help
HSPA+ is what I get
Did you flash a AT&T Rom or just threw in the AT&T SIM card? And thanks for responding
I just threw in a At&t Sim card. My bootloader is locked so I can't flash Roms.

I plan on doing this today as well.... Did you port from Verizon to ST? If so how did that go? Also... What's supercid?
I did port my number. It took a few minutes and everything was switched over. I had to manually program my apn for data to work. I am not getting 4g or lte though only hspa and its much slower in my area at least. Supercid is basically writing over your cid to allow other phones firmware and Rom. AT&T phones work perfect with straight talk and have working lte so I was going to trick my phone into thinking it was an AT&T model

Just so you guys know, MMS doesn't work for me on stock ROM with the stock SMS app or hangouts. But it works for when I use Textra or chompsms. Shouldn't be a problem if you have a custom ROM.
We won't get LTE unless you're with T-Mobile because this phone doesn't have the correct bands for att LTE

The LTE on my phone switches to 3G after reboot and does not revert to LTE without a lot of tinkering with the settings. I use Consumer Cellular, the APN settings I have confirmed with them, and the phone is provisioned for LTE on their side.
What I am wondering is if anyone is using Consumer Cellular with this phone, and if so is the LTE working as it is supposed to? I have excellent LTE coverage here, other phones in the house on the same plan (iPhones) get LTE as they are supposed to( not reverting to 3G).
I used my Simm card from my old phone (Moto G 2nd Gen) in the new 3rd G Moto. Could this be something with the Simm? I am not sure where to go with this. Consumer Cellular tells me there is nothing they can do for me.
Any ideas or insight would be helpful.
Thanks...
I'm on Consumer Cellular and I have no problem getting LTE. I moved the same sim I had in my 2nd gen to this phone. Get them to send you another Sim. They've next day shipped a replacement Sim to me in the past at no charge. Just tell them the old Sim is bent, broken or something.

Hi all, just giving a quick 2 cents after my recent experience attempting to activate a Verizon S7 Edge on AT&T.
*Following a data reset you will need wifi for initial setup if you are using an AT&T sim card.
After following the guide in AT&T's web site for APN settings I was not able to get any data or mms service (this is using the NXTGENPHONE APN), so I did some experimenting. The following APN settings worked for HSPA+ data and mms, but NO LTE and NO MMS if connected to WIFI:
Name: ATT
APN: phone
Proxy: not set
Port: not set
Username: not set
Password: not set
Server: not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
Multimedia message proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
Multimedia message port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: not set
APN type: default,mms,supl,hipri
APN Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming protocol: IPv4/IPv6
Bearer: unspecified
Mobile virtual network operator type: none
Mobile virtual network operator value: not set
So at this point I had NO LTE service and NO MMS IF connected to wifi. Utilizing the LTE Discovery app from the play store I could see that LTE was "not available" but on my wife's S7 she was getting LTE on Band 4. To make a long story short I got online to an AT&T chat rep who told me that HSPA+ and LTE are the exact same and they just show up different on different phones... THIS IS NOT CORRECT!
I educated the dumba$$ rep that HSPA+ and LTE are not the same, and asked to speak to a tech support SPECIALIST. After a short wait for transfer the final solution that worked was to have the specialist change the IMEI on file for my phone number to an AT&T branded Note 5 (I had an old one on the account and just used that). I then restarted the phone and had to wait about 10 minutes for the HSPA+ to change to 4GLTE signal. MMS now works when connected to wifi as well! Please note that this was achieved using the above mentioned APN settings- using AT&T's guide for NXTGENPHONE still results in NO data or MMS.
So the bottom line when transferring a Verizon S7 Edge to AT&T:
1. Use the above APN settings
2. Call AT&T and change your phone number's IMEI in their system to an LTE capable AT&T branded device (in my case note 5 worked)
3. Reboot and wait about 10 minutes for the signal to register
**DON'T let a representative tell you that HSPA+ and LTE are the same thing.. we're talking 8 Mbps vs 50+ Mbps download and 2 Mbps vs 20+ Mbps upload!
Cheers
***Admin I accidentally posted this in the ROM section; can it be moved to discussion/guides? thanks

you just flash the odin tar then root as usual.. the U firmware is for the US unlcked
I flashed first the 935U firmware and then activated the phone with AT&T, once you insert the sim the phone reboots, changes the APN while it reboots and once it finished all data/talk/text services with AT&T are fully functional. I am guessing Verizon lokcs down the APN features of the 935V firmware so that we stay with verizon.
I'm planning on flashing that rom tomorrow. The issue I have is modifying it for unlimited tethering as I use MetroPCS and pay for unlimited Internet. Fox fi does work but counts against my hotspot data. I tried it with a vpn but I use my hotspot for Netflix and I get an error saying to disable the proxy service or vpn. Wifi tether router connects but I get no Internet. I guess the main issue for me is getting the damn netflix to stream off my hotspot via chrome cast. I'm all ears, open to suggestions and help. Ps. I am currently rooted on Verizon rom. All apps are also paid apps not trying to free load here as I believe hard work should be compensated for. I also would love to have the video calling and wifi calling that I pay for.

My brother actually tried this. I sent him my 935V after I flashed it to the 935U firmware. He had the same problems the OP had where MMS and data won't work unless it's on the HSPA+ APN settings. He's coming to visit soon so I will try going to a store and seeing if they can set it up with a new sim. Or should I just call them and have them switch the imei?
Not sure which route is better here.
I actually just flashed the U firmware and now am right back where I started. Could be that for my region att has a hard time registering it. I'll be calling att this week and will post back my findings. I do like the U firmware better though. Seems cleaner and faster.

I think AT&T just block LTE access for non branded devices. Since you mentioned that it works after you register the sim with your AT&T note 5.
I just did a massive conversion of our squad car laptops for law enforcement at work from VZW to AT&T. The way they provision LTE access is trying the ICCID (SIM Card #) to the IMEID of the devices GOBI modem. All of my rigs came up on HSPA+ and not LTE. Once I sent the ICCID and IMEI of the particular unit to our government rep the mobile came up on LTE. I'd try calling them and saying you need LTE provisioned on your SIM. Provide the ICCID of your SIM, the IMEI of your device and your mobile phone #. Hope this helps.

I tried this with my brother's phone and they said that because it's a non at&t branded device there were limitations on what may or may not work when it comes to data or messaging because they don't guarantee anything as it's not theirs. So he had HSPA+ speeds for a few days until i saw this thread and called again. I gave them the IMEI from a display phone and it worked fine after that.

Does anyone have any experience with Cricket? I'm thinking about using my S7 Edge on the U firmware with Cricket, but I know they don't have the same level or type of customer service as AT&T. I'm hoping it will "just work", but it sounds like it might not.

Don't know if you're still considering using a Verizon S7 edge on Cricket. I currently have one and it works fine with the network. And I have no issues with calls or MMS via LTE. You only lose connection go Band 17.
