Is it necessary to unlock boot loader before rooting?? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I m a newbie and i want to install apps like greenify, xposed modules,gravity box and a lot which required root access.
So i want to know should i unlock boot loader first. And also can u provide a link to how to root moto g xt1033 4.4.4.

It is necessary.
Steps: Unlock Bootloader --> Root --> Install Xposed --> Install gravity box

Help needed - installing cwm on xperia e

I have rooted my Xperia E (Single Sim ) WITHOUT unlocking the bootloader, through SRSroot.
I want to install a utility to flash zip files directly - I believe its called Clockwork Recovery mode or something (sorry, don't know much, noob here!)
How do I install it?
Will I have to unlock bootloader too?
Some details about this CWM will be highly appreciated!!

After that u can make back up
But how to install recovery.....without unlocking bootloader
so you want to unlock bootloader

Is it possible to root Moto G2 using "Kingo root" without first unlocking the bootloader?
You can't do anything without unlocking the bootloader first.

i have moto x 1st gen(verizon) its model is xt1060 , i want to unlock its bootloader. i tried it using fastboot when i entered my mobile code in motorola's bootloader unloocking stie , they replied , "my device is not eligible"
is there any other way to unlock it!!
and one more thing can install custom recovery without unlocking bootloader??
