[Q] Unable to backup sms/mms/call logs - General Questions and Answers

Need a little help here.
I'm running CM 10.1.3 on an ATT Galaxy S II (i-777), just bought a new phone and I'm trying to transfer over my texts and call logs. I've tried nearly every SMS backup app under the sun and they all tell me that I have NO call logs or SMS/MMS, which is obviously not the case. Titanium backup is the only app that seems to work, backing up the "Phone/Messaging Storage" app, at a 21MB size. However I don't want to root my new phone (Moto X) and void the warranty, so I can't use TB to restore to it (plus it is running 4.4.3, so I'm not convinced it would work).
I've thought about seeing what the ATT store can do for me, but I have a feeling it wouldn't work for them either.
Other thoughts are to 'upgrade' CM to a slightly different version, such as 10.1.3-RC2, and see if that 'fixes' things, though I'm not convinced 1) that it will work since I encrypted my phone (which I regret now...), or 2) that it will work without having to wipe the phone clean first, or 3) that it will even restore 'visibility' to SMS etc,...and I don't necessarily trust that TB will restore everything properly either since every other app seems to not be able to see them.
Any recommendations would be appreciated!
It's likely unrelated but on another note I broke something a while back because my Google account sync permanently reports a sync error, which I can't seem to fix, and the only thing which doesn't seem to sync properly is tasks from Business Tasks.

Hi there try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.CallLogBackupRestore&hl=en and https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&hl=en they should work

also never use titanium backup to restore system data between two different android versions it will seriously mess up your system

[Q] Restoring Contacts from Titanium Backup

I changed phones just recently and I backed up all of my apps and contacts using Titanium Backup. Everything went smoothly when restoring, except my contacts aren't being restored. I rooted my old phone and I've been able to restore them every time I switched roms, however with my new phone, they're not. I have gone to the specific file (contact/calls storage) and tried to restore it, rebooted, and everything, but that still doesn't work. Could someone please help me with this? Thank you. If it helps, I'm on a Droid Eris running 2.1.
I just sync all my contacts to Google, just more painless like that. But in backing up contacts on the phone, I'd use MyBackupRoot and Titanium Backup for Apps.
Sent from a Limited Edition phone from a Premium app..
I didn't really mention this but I can't access my old phone to get my contacts. It's broken lol. I just have a backup from before it broke. Any ideas?
I'm having the same issue:
've made on my previous phone Samsung Galaxy S II a full backup with titanium backup. Now, I have One S (s4) and I want to restore my contacts. It doesn't work with old fashion way (by entering in titanium backup and restoring everything). Can you help me out with this? There is a way to find the contacts in the titanium backup folder and add them manually in the last case?
@SaturnUnleashed did you find out how to do it?
I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but after searching around for a solution to this issue I came up with nothing useful. Unless you can restore to a phone with the exact same ROM the backup was made on, it cannot be restored.
Nobody (as far as I can tell) has found a solution to your problem, so unless you've sync'd your contacts with google I'm afraid they're lost forever.

From Epic to Inspire

Will be detrimental to use mybackup to restore apps and data?
Probably. I don't know exactly how it works as I've never used it, but it may try to put some data into dbdata, where the inspire would need it in /data/data/databases. It's bad enough restoring stuff from Rom to Rom on the same phone, let along restoring from a completely different phone.
Worst case scenario though you'll have to wipe data.
Apps are usually saved with your gmail account/market account and auto synced.
You can also transfer your SMS/MMS and other items via Bluetooth, its in the settings through the Inspire. Not sure if this option is still available if you root it, but I know stock sense UI 2.2 has this available to use.

Dumb question where do I get themes for this rom ?
No themes have been created for this rom. MOAR is a good rom with a few themes built for it though.
Wifi calling not working
wifi calling sometimes will connect, but if it doesn't connect, there is no way to get it to retry or have it even connect. it just doesn't work
Is that a question? Sometimes it never worked right on stock for me either.

Half the time your wifi calling fails is due to sprint bringing down the wifi calling servers... You should join the sprint forums also to keep an eye on the wifi calling server status.
If it's server related usually it reconnects on its own, but in the notifications panel there is a wifi calling icon you can toggle, or you can toggle wifi out-right to force a handshake...
Have been using since posted. yesterday system ui kept force closing with error message. Tried to factory reset and clean install. It worked briefly then same error message and instability. Had to go back to stock deodexed. I hate pop up messages but can't risk the same problem again with this Rom. Any ideas?
Not sure, I've flashed this version and 2 newer ones and I don't get any fc. I would need to see a logcat.
Cant flash 1.4.1
i try to flash 1.4.1 with twrp 2.8.6.0 and it says extracting files and then moves to installing busybox and all the other stuff and says finished, but when i reboot, i get stuck at the galaxy s5 splash screen and then it forces a reboot back into recovery. I have done clean installs and everything and it is not working.
Not sure man, you're the first one who's posted that issue

@tdunham , any thoughts on why system update isn't showing up in settings for these guys? I have it on my phone, but no one else has it.

Not sure, I've seen this happen before but don't know why its doing it.
Maybe they need to format internal storage as part of the wipe to make sure they're really getting a true clean install?
It's possible. I've seen it before too, it happened when I did a dirty flash but a clean flash fixed it. Kinda weird.
You guys should try what tdunham suggested and backup your internal storage and wipe it as well.
Metal Butter!
Thanks for the groovy ROM * I tried TN's ROM, MOAR, and several others. This is looking like the one for me, finally! I greatly appreciate the time and effort you put into making this available for us all! BS/BD *
sms/mms timestamp/sequence issues?
This ROM is amazingly great, first and foremost! After running if for a day now, I'm noticing an issue with incoming text messages. I send a text (time stamp is proper), recipients reply (time stamps are off by an hour earlier). The incoming text messages appear before the original messages I've sent. This is happening with multiple contacts. I tried Handsent 3rd party SMS software, issue seemed to resolve, though I'm not a huge fan of their pop up ads. Also tried 8sms, the ordering issue reappeared. Each 3rd party app was set as the default accordingly. I tried going back the the original pre-loaded messaging application and still have the out of order issue with relies from contacts.
Is anyone else having this or a similar problem? Are there any known fixes besides installing 3rd party messaging apps from the play store?
I did restore messages from my previous ROM's backup, using Super Back up. There were a good # of texts too (over 1k). Those all restored no problem, but this issue of the new texts coming in before my most recently typed message seems odd.
Thanks for any feedback/suggestions/solutions that anyone has to offer!
Thank you! I have that issue with texts sometimes too. It really just started a few days ago. Seems network related.

I'm inclined to agree, I've started to see sent messages send then appear in the wrong order recently. You can also use Google stock messenger that has no pop ups

Problem with apps
After installing MetalRom, have been unable to install any apps from the Play Store. After rebooting, it will begin downloading the app but at either 90% or even 100% download, it will stop and not finish the download or install the app. After that, if I cancel the download, it won't even begin to download any apps after that. It just has that preparing to download. Has anyone else ran into this issue and figured out how to fix it?
Along with that, I was not receiving any text messages, even ones sent to myself

That's a strange one. Try clearing the cache for the playstore, and updating profile and prl. Clear cache for download manager as well.

Thanks for the quick reply. This does require gapps to be installed, correct? And I was able to receive a few text messages but I'm not sure what caused them to come through, but I lost the ability to send any. I did try updating the prl and profile but nothing was happening when I hit the buttons for updating them so I don't think that worked. I've been receiving error code 97 which is usually only a problem for people with Airave so I'm not sure what to make of that.
No, this is touchwiz based, gapps are not needed, and should not be used.

[Q] android.process.acore has stopped on CM12S

So, I searched a lot but couldn't find a solution that works. I was on 11S 05Q and I downloaded 12S OTA file from the official CM link. I'm rooted and had Xposed. But after installing the OTA via TWRP(2.8.6.0), I get the message "Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped" continuously. I have uninstalled xposed, cleared data for contacts and contacts storage multiple times but the error still keeps popping up. Also, if it helps, the preview crash report mentions "[CRASH]com.android.providers.contacts threw android.os.TransactionTooLarge Exception". So I believe it has something to do with the contacts data getting corrupted somehow. Is there anyway to resolve this issue? If I factory reset my phone through TWRP, will i lose all my media and will I have to reinstall all my apps again? I have the nandroid backup of 11S 05Q made through TWRP. If I decide to go back to 05Q by going through the restore option in TWRP, can it brick my phone because I read somewhere that 12S had new radio files. A detailed guide or link would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
I'm in the same boat, unfortunately. In my case, the trigger seems to be Facebook app. Did a lot of research, tried to fence FB off Contacts (and even Calendar) by changing Privacy Guard settings, to no avail. I was only able to get to the state when FB was still installed and not triggering the error permanently (in my case every 2-3 seconds really, making phone unusable), however the moment I tried to access Contacts or Phone apps, the error was back (means couldn't call anyone, which sort of defeats the purpose of having a cell phone). The ultimate solution (and the only, to my best knowledge) is to get an Android 5.1 - based ROM...

I have the same problem! I had it after updating yesterday. I did a factory reset and thought that fixed it but after opening trivia crack it came back. It's like everytime an account is added whether it's Facebook, a game, etc. It pops up with this error. I can fix it by booting into safe mode and wiping calendar and contacts storage in settings-apps. But once new account is installed it comes back. Could I wipe my entire device back to stock using 44s file via adb and then update to lollipop with zip? Maybe that will fix it.

Boot into safe mode (power down phone and then hold both volume keys while starting until lockscreen appears). Then goto settings and apps. Find calendar storage and contacts storage. Wipe those and restore your contacts with a vcf file. Then reboot, this will fix it temporarily. As long as you don't add an account! I tried factory reset and thought that worked but it didn't. Might have to restore to stock 44s via adb. When will cyanogen have the full lollipop file available to install? All I see online is Ota zip, not full os.
I figured it out. Uninstall Facebook. Don't use Facebook app, use it though a web browser.
This is an Android 5 bug, as per Google it is fixed in 5.1 The bug is because of memory exception in contact storage. Potentially, it can come back from ANY application synchronizing contacts. In my case it was Nine Exchange Mail application. Cleaning contact storage, full phone reset - nothing helped, at the moment I tried to add my corporate email added through Nine - the problem came back. I removed Nine app, and added corp email through CM email app (Boxer). The app is Ok, but not giving as much features as Nine (Out of Office settings etc). For now it works, I just wonder when we will get the CM12.1 with this fix. This is really sad, but can't blame CM for this.
Here is the link for this problem description on AOSP issue tracker forum: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=95749
thanks...uninstalling updates to G+ app seems to help ...the popups have stopped <fingers crossed>
hopefully 5.1 has fixed this
To help gain more developer attention, please vote for the bug in Cyanogen's issue tracker: https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-2820
Please also consider voting in Google's issue tracker (via Star at upper-left): https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=95749
The Cyanogen defect report presently has just a single vote, reducing the likelihood it will be fixed anytime soon in 12.0. I'm hoping Cyanogen can back-port the necessary changes from 12.1 (Android 5.1.x) where this issue is already corrected.

Question Android 13 update made a mess of my Pixel 6A, need to backup, reset and restore

Don't know what happened, but the A13 update basically borked my phone. Dialer, messages, fingerprint reader, screen handling, notifications, Android Auto, etc ALL no longer work correctly. I never know how exactly the phone will behave on any given interaction. Its a mess. It was working perfectly fine on A12
So, I have to do some kind of a reset. I NEED my messages and call logs to be correct on restore (use it for lots of business stuff), everything else, whatever is backed up will be ok.
I tried doing a migration from the A13 6A to a factory reset Moto Edge 21 with A12 on it, and the A13 Pixel refuses to cooperate. Android migration usually works pretty well, but in this case, the 6A A13 refused to see the Moto A12, and gave me some super weird Android File Manager error message. I planned on using the Moto Edge as a data mule, reset the 6A, then migrate everything back.
So, I need to do a backup, reset and restore and am dubious of Google One actually working. Open to suggestions or actual experiences of how to do this with minimal disruption. Most of the internet "guides" on resetting are useless, and don't address how not to lose and/or destroy your data (text/messages, call logs, etc, incl MMS)
The only thing I can think of is using Wondershare Mobiletrans for backup and restore and cross my fingers that it'll actually work.
I use Swift Backup to backup and restore now. I would give that a try.
I use swift as well...but u have to have a backup app already in place BEFORE getting borked...lol There's limited options for going back to 12. As mentioned in the big PSA warning thread at the top...if u try to do a common rollback, google's ARB (anti-rollback) if triggered, WILL HARD=BRICK your phone! Then u have to send it back to google for a factory reset meaning ofc loss of all data. So plz use caution and no matter how u chose to proceed...Swift Backup is a gem! A one-time purchase ano NO monthly fees! Best regards...
Try updating again, I got two Android 13 updates on mine, the first one broke the fingerprint reader, then I hit update again, and it downloaded another update that subsequently fixed it.
If you just want to backup messages and phone calls, I use this:
SMS Backup & Restore - Apps on Google Play
A simple app that backs up and restores SMS & MMS messages and call logs.
play.google.com
Can back up to cloud as well as your device.
Otherwise I've had no issues with the Google backup in Settings.
