Two Tablets Broken for no reason? - General Questions and Answers

So within the last week or two, i have had two of my tablets Break for now reason with no signs of life (recovery mode/charging). i had a Samsung Galaxy tab 2 10.1 that went first, its a little older and was running Cyanogenmod 11 so i thought it was just close to the end of its life so i set it aside and went to my Nexus 7 2012, Now this thing was not running a Custom rom and still shows no sign of life, both of the devices sat next to my bed on a sort of desk thing so i am able to easily reach for it, recently i have decided to stop keeping my galaxy tab 2 on charge all night/day so i would probably charge it every two nights. i did the same with the nexus 7, i have no idea how they are broken i have let them sit on charge for hours but still nothing, any ideas?

Were they both plugged in when this happened? Maybe a power surge?

P6810 suddenly won't turn on

Anyone come across this? I put it on standby last night after reading a bit of my book on it, and it had around 50% power remaining. This morning, it was totally unresponsive; pressing the power button does nothing at all. I've charged it for 12 hours in the meantime.
I've done the following all with and without the power attached:
- Pressed and held power for 15 seconds through to a minute
- Pressed and held volume up with power to attempt to get into recovery for up to a minute
- Pressed and held volume down with powerfor up to a minute
- Pressed and held power while touching screen (read that one off another forum)
I guess potentially it could be on and in a crashed state and unresponsive to the power, so maybe in a weeks time when it runs out of juice, I'll be able to charge it and power it back up, but in the meantime, I'd welcome suggestions.
A few weeks ago I updated it to the official ICS build that was released, but did the update myself rather than using KIES, as KIES didn't even recognise my Tab's firmware original version. It's been absolutely fine before the update, and since. I only mention it because I've read about the Samsung build of ICS being prone to self bricking itself, but I couldn't determine what the symptoms of this vulnerability were.
Thanks for any help offered,
Will
did you try connecting USB cable and plugging it into your PC? did u get any activity? can ADB recognize your tab?
I think your tab just ran out of juice and the battery's protection circuit has kicked in. Try taking it to an electronic shop and plugging in different chargers preferably one with an output more than 2.1 amps to kickstart the charging. Plug it in and wait till the charging animation starts.

Had the same problem while on holidays. Once the battery goes below a certain level, you won't be able to charge it through USB any more. Instead you need to use the wall charger.
I think it's bad enough that the 7.7 doesn't have a micro USB port, but things like that are just stupid and Samsung made a big mistake here. It don't think it's the same with the newer tablets though. It's also not possible to just buy cables or chargers for this strange Samsung port, so when you forget your wall charger at home at some point you won't be able to use your tablet any more.
As long as you charge with the USB cable early enough, you can avoid it though.
A few months ago I experienced the same thing, the Tab just wouldn't turn on anymore.
I tried all there is without any luck.
Contacted amazon and they replaced it with a new one in less than 48 hours.
So far not Problems with the new device.
I have the P6800 and this morning I took it off charge. Put it into standby and only used it for about 20 mins then left in standby all day. It had about 95% remaining when I did so.
Picked it up this evening and the lower left area of the screen was warm and it would not switch on. Didn't think of the ADB idea but will try this next time but I had to reset it and when it powered on tonight after the reset, it was down to 15%. Within about 2 mins of checking stuff it was down to 3%.
Something is running when it is in standby but as I can't switch it on I can't check with BetterBatteryStats or CPUState to know what is wrong.
It does this every day. I am tempted to do a factory reset and reinstall only limited software.
Dave...
I see this thread is a little old but this has just happened to my P6810 too. A pity nobody reported back what the end result was.
My device had at least 95% battery last night but today I can't get it to respond at all, I've tried the wall charger and still nothing.
Anything else someone could suggest for me?
Edit. I tried getting anything from it connected to my PC but it couldn't find a device there. However I then tried it on the wall charger again and now get a blue battery icon, quite big, with a five step animation indicating that it is charging.
No idea how it went flat as the battery on this lasts a long time assuming the screen isn't on. When it boots properly I'll have a look at what the most recent apps I installed were as it has only done this once. Before this it has been perfect for the three weeks I've had it.

hhmmm, interesting.
I was having trouble with wifi just before this happened. Both my GS2 and this have been claiming to connect to my wifi but aren't actually getting an IP address from it.
I can't remember if it was last night or the night before but I manually set an IP address, the signal strength is fine as my abode isn't very big.
After it has recharged I'll have a poke and see what I can find, thanks for the reply.
So my device seems to be working fine again. It had gone SO flat that the date and time were incorrect!
After I could power it on I had a look at Better Battery Stats and nothing looked wrong so I have no idea what happened. None of the apps I'd installed the day before it played up had long wakelocks and weren't running when I turned it off.
For reference they were:
My Tracks
MyTrails
Google Earth
AndSMB
I'd turned both of the GPS tracking devices off before I turned it off for the night.
It hasn't played up since but it hasn't been long so I'll see what happens.
Yeah, the sleep of death is incredibly annoying. Honestly, the GTab 7.7 is a **** device. Samsung made way too many mistakes and won't do anything to fix it.
A similar thing happens to me every once in awhile. The way i check to make sure everything alright is to see if it boots into download mode. I just leave it plugged in for a couple hours and it eventually comes back on.

this is why my 7.7 is the last tablet/phone from Samsung i'll never trust them they are just bombarding the market with new devices and leaving the old ones to dust
^thats what I thought too but that gs4 is really tempting. I've heard worse about HTC in that regard anyways so that why I'm not going with the one.
Finally.. i bought Sony xperia Z.
I'll sell my galaxy tab 7.7. I.m very disappointed with samsung.

Unbelievable! ... this trick still works ... thank you very much for you help ...
^^ yo, this 'trickle charge' trick did NOT work on my (long) dead P6800... any other suggestions??
Quite strange because my Samsung GT-P6800 tablet was fully charged, it went completely blank dark as if it was off. To my amazement, SMS keeps dropping and calls kept coming in. Yet it is still as blank as though the tab was off. I pressed the power button and the volume up bottom for it to reboot. It rebooted without the screen coming up. It has been blank for two days now. What could be the cause? And what possible solution can be given?

BRICKED! Never thought it could happen to me

Well I think I finally bricked my Nexus S. What's weird is that it's been working fine. Had JellyBro 20120817 installed for the past few days with no issues. Last night I plugged my phone in to charge and went to bed. Woke up this morning and clicked the power on button to see what time it is and it showed just fine. 20 minutes later I went to check the time again and NOTHING. Pulled battery, tried every button combo, everything. My wife has a Nexus S also, so I tried her battery with the same results. No lights, vibrations, nothing. Plugged it into my computer to see if I could get any response and still nada. Tried Fastboot and device is not found. UGH. If anyone can give me any advice on what to try feel free to chime in. I've been around long enuff to realize that I'm pretty sure it's toast. Either way... it's been a nice run.

Take it off charge and pull the battery out. Let it sit for a while (1 hour at least) without the battery. Put your wife known working battery in and cross your fingers.

I don't imagine it shows as charging when plugged in? Otherwise I'd send it for repair or just buy a new phone. :/

No it doesn't show as charging at all. Won't find device in adb, no lights, no vibration when trying to power on, nothing. It does get warm when the battery is in it tho. And it is discharging somehow, because I tried my battery in my wifes phone and it showed 33 % when I know it had a full charge before it died. GNex is on its way.
i just have had same problem days ago , unfortunately i tried all , even Odin , just non-responsive
i also tried that unbrickable tool run under Ubuntu , still no good ...
i just send it to repair... Gosh

Same Problem here. It was working fine on jelly bean and rooted with clock work recovery. I removed the battery out to change the sim and now it wont power on, fastboot doesn't work and the USB JIG also doesn't work, doesn't show the charging animated when plugged in.
i tried AdamOutlers Resurector tool, it didnt detect the phone, so i made the hardware mod and now it detect the phone, but still dead after the tool loads the files. but when i choose GALAXY S from the drop down menu, the tool and the phone, both shows download mode, heimdall detect the phone but doesnt work as it is not a GALAXY S.
At least now you have a reason to upgrade. But that sure sucks, if you still want to revive it you could give this a shot... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ecp8jKmm48k
Three people with Nexus S's with Jelly Been roms just spontaneously get bricked phones? Just flashed mine to CM10 Nightly yesterday...
Hmmmm
I'm not sure if I would call mine a true bricking since most bricks happen directly from a rom flash. Mine was actually working fine for a couple of days after my last flash and then suddenly stopped working. It was an almost 2 year old phone and heavily abused internally with almost daily rom/kernel flashes and overclocking. I think maybe it just got tired LOL. Oh well...we have 2 other Nexus S's in our house, so now we have a decent parts phone since externally the phone is flawless.
Try cleaning your the phone's usb slot with a toothbrush and medical alcohol. also after removing your battery, try pressing the power button for 10 Secs(without battery) this cleans any extra charges in your phone. Gd luck!
Sounds more like hardware failure than bricking.

i read something that is problme of bootloader that messes with hummingbird CPU or something , i don't know
i had flashed the latest bootloader and 4.1 once it came out , but then i back to 4.0.4 and decided wait for AOKP JB.
and , my phone was also unable to power up after i pull out and change a new battery ! , first of all i was thinking battery's unstable output current damaged hardware or something , but now i am more convinced it should be the problem of bootloader as i read before

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S3 not opening

I bought a Samsung Galaxy S3 in July 2012. Last night I chat with it while I was in my bed. The battery was 22% before I slept. Today after my breakfast I get on my computer to work and I remeber that I had to charge my S3. I plugged it to my USB. But not sure if it was open. I had many jobs to do. So I didn't pay attension to my phone as usual. After 5 hours I need to call somebody. When I got my phone I saw that it was closed. I tried to open it but nothing happent. I thought it didn't get charged from USB. I tried to charge from city electricity. There was no response.
I waited my cousin because he also has a S3. We first tried to open my S3 with his full battery. Still no response. We tried my battery on his phone first there was no response but after 2 minutes, S3 of my cousin started charging my battery. After full charging my battery on S3 of my cousin I retried on my S3. Still no response.
I never install custom rom or root my android. I only update official android versions when my phone alert me. The last update was 15 days ago. Version 4.1.1. How can it be bricked while staying like that?

[Q] (Help!) My Galaxy refuses to start in any manor!

So I have a Stock Non-Rooted year old Galaxy s 4g that just turned off on me one day. I have tried everything to get it turned on. It does not bring up the battery charging screen when plugged in, and it refuses to boot into download mode. I suspect a hard brick, but I don't know what would cause it. Not only did it just turn off, it was at exactly 60% battery life and it shut down when I was trying to email my friend.
Take the battery out of the phone and put it on a flat surface like a kitchen counter. See if you can rock the battery back and forth and see if there is a bulge in the center, it shouldn't rock. Mine did this to me a year after I bought it and replacing the battery solved it.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I would jump on amazon.com and buy a battery....you can find them for $5-7.00 all day long there.
You can even buy the battery for the vibrant at that price or lower and they work just fine.
I have 4 vibrant batteries i use with an external charger.
I know that the battery works, because i tried it in my friends galaxy, and his worked fine.
Tried his in yours?
How's your cable? Try a different one. I've got a handful that won't charge my phone, but, will work on my wife's Samsung (and some that will/will not charge my company phone)...

Yeah, I did try his in mine, and it still wouldn't charge. I did try with another cable, still no results
Power it up and root the darn thing. Then install an ics rom. Hopefully your problem will resolve.

Yes, and it wont go into recovery or download mode
Man that sucks. Best advice I can give you is to call Samsung. If it's under a year they will warranty it. If it's over a year they may charge you. There a pretty good company when it comes to honoring their warranty so it's worth a shot. Sounds like critical hardware failure to me.

No power... at all...

I'm stumped on this one... Nexus S 4g that's been retired from active duty for a few months since I upgraded to my Galaxy S3. I've been using it as a fancy MP3 player for a couple of months because I work in an environment where it takes a lickin' and I'm not concerned if it gets destroyed.
Sometime between Monday and today, the battery must have died. I figured, No Problem! I'll just plug her in! So I did, hit the power button, and it flashed the Google screen, then nothing. I figured maybe it was flat dead, so I let it charge for a couple hours, and the phone itself got warm, so presumably it charged some during that time. However now, I get no response from it whatsoever. Plugging it in doesn't show the battery charging screen like it used to with the power off. I tried pulling the battery and leaving it out for an hour, still to no avail. The charging cord is good as verified by my Galaxy S3. Is it just plain DOA? Is it time to write this one off?
Charge for awhile and attempt to go into recovery.
If that works then ur good. From there go to a backup, new ROM or the ROM u where already on(if its still working)
Good luck
