Towelroot with latest update? - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. I'm running the old software on my s5, the one the phone shipped with in April. I read online that the latest update introduced Wi-Fi calling to the s5. I don't want to lose root, and don't want to trigger Knox either so the towelroot is my only option at the moment. Does it work with the latest software? Thanks.

Yes, it works perfect with the NE5 update.

Roms for AT&T LTE SM-P907A?

I just picked up one and successfully rooted it. However, none of the TWRP verion would work. Yea I know they are for the P900 and P905 but I tried them anyway since none has been made for the P907 yet. Anyone is developing a rom for the P907 anytime soon? Or if you know a beta or something? I've searched all over google but nothing came up. I guess I will just have to keep waiting :/
Safe Strap for the Note 3 works on this tablet. I'm running it with no issues.

Knox 00 ?

regards
No roms
Fore now it seams like there is no developing going on other than rom s to p900 .....:crying:

I have the sm-p907a and was able to flash back to a build that allowed the towelroot. I successfully rooted but I'm having an issue where the update is getting force pushed and updating without consent.
Is there a way to turn off the auto updates. I searched all the settings and did not see the option to do so. Or maybe an mod/app etc...
Anything short of turning wifi off after every use will get the update pushed onto the tablet and disabling the root.
Thanks!

Should I upgrade?

I was the one who upgraded without researching first the last update to OF1. I don't think there's a rooting method yet for that version of firmware, should I take this new update or no?

If you are already on OF1, I would recommend you take the update.
There is no root for it, nor any of the future builds,
as well as no sign of there being root in the near future.
The latest update, 5.1.1, is an important update.
It offers support for RAW image capture; it also patches StageFright.
There are really no cons in updating if you are already on the OF1 build.

Use Odin
Link for the FW.
Follow this link for the firmware update.
It has the most recent update available for our phone other than OTA. It is 5.1.1 and there are instructions and a link to the ODIN software.
I finally got it to work, thanks anyways I'm on og7

Glad you got it

The link above has OG5. Good. Smartswitch gives you OG7. Better. OTA is OG9. Required for Samsung Pay.
Question: How long does it take for Smartswitch version to catch up to OTA?
Answered my own question. OTA was on 10/16. Today on 10/23, OG9 is available on Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant. I assume Smartswitch would've also had it if i tried it first.

New OTA update G935VVRU4BQC5

Still haven't received it but it looks like a junk update.
NRD90M.G935VVRU4BQC5
This software update provides the latest enhancements for Enterprise customers.
One Talkā„  from Verizon:
The Galaxy S7 edge now supports One Talk, connecting your office and mobile devices with one number.
App update:
Amazon Shopping (version 8.1.1)
https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/samsung-galaxy-s7-edge-update/
Edit: I received it and it updated Android security patch level to April
Are you sure that the OTA Firmware isn't actually a 7.0+ Nougat Build? The QC builds that I've seen so far have all been at least base 7.0 Nougat.
I don't have a S7 vzw. Yet. Probably within a few days.

I got this pushed to me too, updating now.
I just checked system updates. There is a new one for me, it include Verizon One Talk and some security updates. Don't k ow if it's QC5. I'm downloading now.

Update downloaded, install failed. Guessing because I'm rooted.. anyone else??
They just now only included One Talk? That's been on the S6 and S5 for a long time now.

Yep. You can return to stock and keep some directory changes you made by using their desktop Verizon Software Recovery utility for Samsung. You'd lose root but the phone will get and install OTA updates.

Installed and used it for a couple of days. Found, that security changes made all calendar notifications on locked screen to be hidden - "some hidden event" & "some hidden time"
I know we will lose root if we take this update but is the update still rootable? I'm rooted on QA4 still and refused to take this update yet as I just received the notification today(Tuesday 5/2/17). I like being rooted with dual speaker mod,and V4A installed. Can anybody confirm if this version is rootable using the Nougat root method? How can I disable the uodates?

If you go to @jrkruse "root for nougat" thread and follow his guide, you'll be able to root the qc5firmware.

I am already on BQC5 and just this morning I got a new system software update downloaded, ready to install message. Odd thing is in the past, prior to BQC5 the notification showed the build number, date and what was changing. Now it doesn't show me anything. It just says there is an update do you want to install now or later.....
Anyone have info on this "unknown" system update?
Looks like this
Software Update G930VVRS4BQC9 for Samsung Galaxy S7 and G935VVRS4BQC9 Galaxy S7 Edge
Android May security update.
Device Stability improvements, bug fixes.
Further improvements to performance.
http://sihmar.com/software-update-g930vvrs4bqc9-galaxy-s7-edge/
Should say further improvements to guaranteeing random lag.

Has anyone installed it yet? Is it worth it? On the unlocked version does it still allow tethering with 3rd party apps. Also important question ROOTING?
