[Q] [Root] Can't boot into flashed recovery - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I have been talking with a friend for a while and finally decided to root my device. With help from him, we were able to get as far as flashing a recovery image. Sadly, everytime that I tried to boot into recovery, it just sat on the logo, and after a while, booted normally.
The device currently has root access (towelroot) and I can do everything root related, but I don't feel right now having a custom ROM.
Things we have tried:
TWRP Manager (For TWRP)
Flashify (TWRP, CWM)
Rom Installer (CWM)
CynogenMod - My device is obsolete apparently so it would not pick it up
ADB - Driver Issues (Yay Vista)
Yet everytime, the same issue. Any idea on what I could do now?
Device Info -
KitKat 4.4.2
Xt926 (CDMA)
Droid RAZR Maxx HD
Bootloader is unlocked

Do you already unlocked the bootloader?

Yes, the bootloader is unlocked.

The TWRP that works for our phone is not official, so it won't be in any of those apps. Get the TWRP app in the Original Development section of this forum and flash it via fastboot or sideload and flash via Flashify.

HTC one x question about twrp

Hello. I am new to the HTC one x coming previously from an HTC inspire. I am with att. I followed the directions and unlocked the bootloader. I have been reading and noticed S-Off is still being worked on. I'm Confused on what my next step is to load a custom ROM. Sorry I know this has probably been answered but I'm still confused. Can I do the next set of steps without a computer and just do it from my phone? I downloaded an app called recovery manager not sure of that will help me out. Thanks for any help you guys can provide. I'm on 2.20 and 4.0.4 thanks again.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
I think at that time after unlock of the bootloader you will need to install a recovery software the one we use is TWRP i would stick with 2.2.0.0 and install it thought goomanager that is avaliable though the play store.
Instructions : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1677447
To use goomanager I need to be rooted though right?I don't think I'm rooted. Farthest I have gotten so far is unlocking the bootloader. And I'm not sure what to do after that. I'm not sure if I can do the rest from my phone (which I hope I can). Thanks ks for your help.

Do you absolutely have to flash SuperSU to flash ROMs? Can you just go right from TWRP and flash a rooted ROM and be considered as "rooted"?
Thanks

You can just flash a custom ROM, which will have SuperSU or SU cooked in. Only need to flash SuperSU if you want to stay on stock ROM and have root.
you made your situation sound different. the steps i take is use my token, flash recovery, then flash a rom or supersu depending if i want a custom rom or keep using stock.

Thanks also working for me, just a slight typo in the code to flash the recovery .IMG.
Is it possible to flash CM11 with this recovery or should we still wait?

Works great! Thanks dhacker29 !
I do have a problem sometimes booting into recovery or restarting recovery while plugged into a power source. the xt926 will just get stuck either on the duel core logo or just stay on a black background. when I unplug the power source the recovery boots up normally.
Which isn't a big problem though everything else seems to be working great.

Can you make TWRP 2.7.1.0 hdpi for XT907?
Thank you dhacker29, just flashed it on my xt925.
It works well.
Made a backup, went back to 4.1.2 just for testing (full wipe with RSD), upgraded again to 4.4 and restored my backup.
Thanks
Worked perfectly!
Thank you. this thing was awesome. Used Matt's Droid Utility 1.4 to wipe from Cyanogen 11 to the Offical KK and then this for SuperSU and Titanium backup. whole thing didn't take an hour
It is SO nice to have TWRP back on my RAZR HD after upgrading to KitKat.

It won't work unless you have the new bootloader from stock KK.
I upgraded to the latest KitKat stock and have an itch to flash some of the custom Roms out there, but to my knowledge I think I would have to downgrade back to the old boot loader along with an older recovery in order to flash the older Roms.
Can anyone confirm?
For some reason this wont work on my xt926, it loops the Motorola boot logo forever.
Thanks anyway, DH. Going back to CWM for now.
Works well on my XT926, thank you so much!:good:

[Q] Does the NEW Shield Tablet support the 1st gens ROMS & recoveries?

Hey guys. I just want to know if anyone can confirm that the roms and recoveries for the first Nvidia Shield Tablet can work on the NEW Nvidia Shield Tablet? I heard the two tablets are basically the same except for the built in stylus so I'm hoping that the roms work for the NEW one...
Thx Guys
I'm not sure about the ROMs, but the official twrp works flawlessly. I couldn't actually get it to flash via fastboot but I did get it to boot into it via fastboot, then did a backup, then flashed root. After flashing root I downloaded flashfire by chainfire and used that to flash the twrp recovery. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the helpful info! I hope this helps others as well. I will try a custom rom on it when I pick it up. Good thing you told me that I can't flash twrp via fastboot... (would've gave me a headache at first ) No problem though I'll just have to boot it via fastboot, make a backup just in case, flash supersu, and then flash the twrp recovery onto the shield with a third party app like flashfire.
Thanks again

Could you maybe try to do a full backup using flashfire? I used twrp and later realized it doesn't backup the recovery or the kernel so even if I need to I can't return to full stock. Flashfire is still in beta but there is a thread here to sign up. It's the replacement to flashify if I remember right.

Unable to root Moto g 2015 1 Gb model on Marshmellow

I'm having difficulty with recovery and super su. I have tried several twrp recovery versions on this site but after flashing it though fast boot recovery does not update. Only recovery works is ending name with test1 but when I'm in twrp recovery and flash super su phone goes in bootloop and stays on bootloader unlocked and warranty void message. Even I managed to put few ROMs on SD card but when i flash them recovery does not flash and finish process in two seconds. I have also used few versions of super su and have soft bricked my phone and now have flashed stock firmware few times via fast boot. Can you help me please to point which recovery version and super su will work? I have tried few threads stating worked but it did not work for me .Please help

1GB or 2GB doesn't matter, the process is the same, so there is something else going on...
Can you just boot the TWRP image? "fastboot boot recovery.img" (replace recovery.img with the latest TWRP image, r5 I think)
If that doesn't work, what is the status of your bootloader from the bootloader screen?
Thanks, I flashed the latest one r5 and it shows in fast boot it is written however when I'm going to recovery it does not bring recovery and only poor android photo comes up with nothing found like happens in stock recovery . Only r1 test recovery successfully load but it does not flash anything

But can you BOOT it? (not talking about flashing anything)
After you flash, ate you starting recovery immediately or rebooting first, because you can't reboot before starting it or it will be overwritten by stock.

Latest recovery should be used (I think it was 3.0.2 r5). And you'll have to do the systemless install, unless you want bootloop. Also make a note of which recovery you flash/boot- Osprey is for Moto G 2015 and Merlin is for Moto G 2015 Turbo Edition.

Help with Bootloop on HTC Desire 816G dual sim

Hi,
I have a HTC Desire 816G dual sim. It was on a stock rom Android 4.4.2
I used Kingo Root to get root access.
I installed the TWRP App and downloaded the latest version of TWRP
I flashed it to recovery with the TWRP App.
I could not get into recovery mode. The phone always rebooted when I tried this.
I opened the TWRP App again and flashed the TWRP recovery to boot.
Since then the phone is stuck in a bootloop.
Please help me.

Did you make sure bootloader was unlocked before you flashed?
Are you S-on or S-off?
Did you research the correct methods to root and flash your device before you did it?

I couldn't unlock the bootloader. I tried using htcdev.com but the use of command "fastboot oem get_identifier_token" didn't work.
Then I tried using htc_bootloader_unlock.exe but it failed.
If the bootloader would have been unlocked I could have flashed TWRP using fastboot.
I don't know if S-on or S-off

You can't flash TWRP with a locked bootloader, regardless of whether you use fastboot or an app to flash TWRP. Can't do it either way.
At this point, you need to:
Flash your stock recovery
Or
Flash your stock firmware
Then get your bootloader unlocked and then research whether you need to have S-on or S-off depending on exactly what modding you want to do.

I only used Kingo Root because the TWRP App required root access and TWRP App seemed to be the only way to get TWRP recovery

You can't get to recovery or fastboot?
Try connecting to PC while it is in bootloop and use adb to get to fastboot mode, then flash your stock recovery.
Or you can try to use dd command to push your recovery.img to your recovery partition. You have to know exactly which mmcblk0 your recovery partition is or you'll brick the device.

* The first thing you flash the wrong recovery . so your phone always rebooted .
* If that happens again try ringing on your phone . The whole problem is in the boot animation A-Splash .
* as this did not benefit the way to try to recover the stock rom recovery .
I am very weak in the English language I use google translate
