[Q] Finding mytouch cheaper?

So I wanna get the mytouch 4g. I'm currently one year into my two year contract with tmo with my gravity 2 (phone sucks). I talked to a rep and told me the phone would cost me around $300 since I'm not eligible for a full upgrade. Any way of getting the phone for less thru someone (Wirefly, etc.)?

Nope. The phone $450 without a contract

Switch over to a Family Plan and add the MyTouch as a new line maybe? Then just remove all the features on one of the lines. New lines qualify for the $150 pricing I think.

Do some back to back warranty replacements then threaten to cancel your contract if you don't get a new phone. It worked for me, and they sent me a free phone without renewing my contract.

A friend of mine just tried that ... He ended up with an LG Optimus... That's the best they would give him.

This is an example of a conversation questions, this will stay in general section.

They first tried to get me to upgrade, but I told them it was cheaper to cancel my contact and get a new phone through att. Needless to say they transfered me straight to retention.

Craigslist !
Give it about two weeks and then check Craigslist.
Theres already a brand new in unopened box G2 for $350.00
in my area on C/L. I've seen a couple G2's for $300.00.
The MyTouch 4g will be the same in a couple weeks.
I bought my Nexus on C/L.

Cheapest place to get a Sensation?

Idk where to buy mine at. Are they 550 everywhere? Or 600?
Should I just try to find a used one off craigslist?

Forgot to add that I will be buying it full price because I just started a new contract with tmobile in December.

I'm getting mine full priced too next month!
I'll prob just goto a T-Mobile store and buy it for $549.

I just saw that you have to buy off contract, thats a bummer, I paid 148.88 at wallyworld. got two of em, one for the wife and one for me.

I would go with craigslist. Some one will probably buy on contract from walmart for $149 and then sell for $350.

Yes. I got an hd2 from cl and it had some issues and htc said that its still in warranty. The only perk from buying it from tmobile is that u can return it there and get a new one. But htc warranty is 1yr after purchase, even if someone else got it

Normally they ask for proof of purchase from a retailer. Because the phone might be two years old. Cut if you probe you just bought it. Your warranty covers you for 12 months.
But all phones are covered no matter where you buy it from in the first 12 months of its release
Obviously if it only came out eg 6 months ago. Then yours is bound to be no more than 6 months old. Hence its covered. But after the first year of release. You have to prove it is less than a year you bought it

well i bought a hd2 in october off of craigslist and the screen went out in december and called customer care 611 and i got a new one no questions asked

So you bought off CL, and TMO replaced it rather than HTC? That's not official TMO policy is it?

TMO will absolutely not replace a phone under warranty once more than one sim card has been used in a phone. It is an absolutely terrible policy especially on a GSM network. I have gone all the way up to the office of the president and they just refuse to budge. I.e., if I'm on a family plan, buy a phone, use it for a month, switch the sim card so another line is using it and then call it in, they won't accept the warranty.
HTC however WILL stand behind their product.

What's The Best Insurance To Go With

I was doing some research and was wondering what insurance everyone else is using. What is the best insurance company to g with and why?
I also was wondering does the Samsung galaxy S3 have a 1 year warranty like the iPhone?

I think almost all phones have a standard 1 year warranty. For insurance, i have Asurion through Verizon. However, there are others such as Squaretrade.

Anyone know how Asurion and Squaretrade insurance compares to Best Buy's insurance? I bought my GS3 at BB.

I am wondering also. Best buy told me they changed their warranty policy and do not try to fix the phone anymore, they just replace it.... I wonder if they lied?

I bought my phobe from ebay... Can i still insure it???

Asurion is more expensive than squartrade but asurion offers lost or stolen correct? can you insure with BB if you didnt buy it there?

Best Buy changed that a long time ago. I had the service plan on them with my old evo and I brought it in witha problem 4 or 5 times. I dropped it off, paid a $50 deposit and 2 or 3 days later I would get a basically new phone from them, drop off the loaner phone and get my deposit back. It's pricy ($10/mo) but it covers water damage, physical damage, defects and just about anything else. I just bought my GS3 there yesterday and got the service plan again and it's still the same coverage but they added a thing where if you trade in that phone when you are done with it you get $50 back on top of the trade in price. Pretty damned good deal if you ask me.

They said they would insure any new phone thats less than 30 days old. even if you didnt buy it there.

I use the best buy insurance. 10 a month on the 2 s3s and a g nex. If you get the full coverage and have an extra phone you can use you won't have to pay for a loaner phone. Also no deductible. Assurion is complete joke. 100 dollar deductibles and you will only get 2, YES 2 phones. I did this with my htc thunderbolt and received a letter in the mail from them stating that my insurance is dropped because I reached the 2 phone limit.

Insurance? What's that? I've never carried it lol.

For better or worse, it seems that Verizon treats you differently if you have insurance through them/Asurion. A couple of years ago, I was having a problem with my LG Voyager and took it in to them. They told me it was a known problem with the phone, and they were going to let me pick from three other phones right there at the store.
A co-worker's wife had the same phone with the same problems, so I told them to go in and try and get the replacement. When they went in, they were told they couldn't get a free replacement phone like I did, and that it was because they didn't have the insurance on the phone.
I've used insurance enough in the past to warrant me continuing to use it, so when I heard this, I figured I'll just stick with Verizon's Aurion insurance due to the benefits that possibly come with it.

I've also been eying ensquared. It looks like the best, but I'd like to hear if anyone has experience with them.

The BB insurance seems like the way to go. So basically for $10 a month you continually drop your phone, and you will get a brand new device each time? Not that I would do that, but it would be nice to have that piece of mind instead of having to worry so much about your phone...
I will definitely be buying my next phone from them if they don't change this policy.

VZ rep told me a $199 deductible. When I started laughing at her, she said it was an $800 device. I declined.

Okay ya it asurion is a 100 dollar deductible but it covers lost and stolen phones. No other does that I know of without having a deductible. Best buy is 10 dollars a month combine that with asurion so your covered if its lost or stolen. That's 17 dollars a month or 204 dollars year. 2 year contract that's 408 dollars.

Even if you buy it somewhere else you can still insure it with them within 30 days.

One Year Manufacturer Warranty Question

I recently got a gs3 from a friend..so I did not buy through verizon or update my contract. With every single old phone ive had if i had any problem that was not due to dropping or getting wet i would call and the phone would be replaced through a one year manufacturer warranty. Is this still the same with the s3 and does it matter that i did not purchase it through verizon? i know i cant get insurance since i didnt purchase it through them but isnt it still covered from the manufacturer warranty? again i always got phones replaced for free if there was something wrong from the manufacturer.. as long as the phone had no signs of being dropped or abuse

I purchased my phone on another friends account, so I wouldn't loose unlimited data and was told by Verizon that it's fully covererd for 2 years. 1 year from Samsung and 1 year since I pay for the insurance. Hopefully I wasn't lied to!

My friend has bought a couple phones via craigslist and was able to put insurance on em. And yes you are still covered via the manufacturers warranty, atleast my friend was.

My charge port on my S3 is going to crap. I have insurance on my phone though and thinking about getting a new one. Has anyone got a new phone through Verizon insurance? How much did you have to pay? Was it new of a refurb? Thanks

If the phone is under a year old Verizon should just replace it without going through insurance. They most certainly send you a certified-like-new device. If the process is handled by Verizon it will either be free or like $3 for overnight shipping.

If your phone is more than a year old, you will have to go through the insurance. It will cost $99 and you get a brand new phone not a refurb.

If you have the complete verizon insurance package you dont need to go through insurance they will replace it for you, they did the same for mine when it wouldnt turn out

From what I was told you have to pay $90
As long as you paid for insurance. Which is 10 a month for two years or $100 up front which covers the two years

If you have insurance through Verizon Wireless (not some authorized seller of Verizon products) it is handled by Asurion, a third party insurance provider. If you need insurance replacement (lost, stolen, or damaged phone) it is $99 dollars. The phone you get from Asurion will most likely be refurbished but occasionally they do send new ones depending on stock.
If the port has stopped working because of a manufacturer defect with the device and not because it was damaged somehow, then you have to go through Verizon. If it's under warranty (been less than a year since you purchased the device) or if it's been more than a year and you have an extended warranty the device will be replaced at no charge through Verizon
If it's a manufacturer's defect the insurance company won't replace it. It has to be covered by warranty.
