[Q] WI-FI doesnt turn off - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im having this recurrent issue where the wifi apparently is never off, I look in my battery stats and it just has one solid bar even tho I have been off of it for over a hour out of the 3 hrs ive had my device disconnected from the charger. Anyone else having this issue?

Do you mean "off it" as in away from your wifi or disconnected, or "off" as in disabled wifi connectivity?
The battery indicator shows "wifi on" as long as the wifi module is enabled. It will keep searching and trying to connect to known wifi networks even if you manually disconnected from a network or moved out of it's range.
There are apps such as "Juice defender" that will try to determine where you want to have Wifi and automatically turn it on/off based on your position and other factors.

Go into Settings/WiFi/Advanced and uncheck the "scanning always available" box. Juice Defender isn't required.

[Q] Wifi trouble on my Tab 2 (P3100)

I keep getting "Connected to Wi-Fi network (wifiname)" message,
It connects, after some random time, then again shows "Connected to Wi-Fi network (wifiname)".
Not using any battery saver program of any sort,
have set keep Wi-Fi on during sleep to Always.
Power saving mode is set to ON.
Wifi router is in the very same room.
It wasnt a problem when i had ICS, since i upgraded to JB this kept happening.
attached is the snapshot:
& Device is rooted.
All other devices @home do not have any such problem.
Any solution to this auto random on again off again Wi-Fi network problem??

Location based WiFi-what's that about?

On most android phones you can stop them from connecting to open WiFi, so it only connects to your home WiFi and other predefined locations.
The Z3 has an option on the Stamina page:
Location based WiFi- WiFi activated automatically when in range of a saved WiFi network.
I've played with this but i don't get it. If that's activated and I've turned WiFi off it doesn't seem to turn WiFi on, and if WiFi is turned on it'll connect anyway so this option is redundant.
The power policy makes no difference, and I've added my WiFi point to the list.
Maybe you need to turn on "background scanning" in advanced settings which checks for WiFi in intervals even when WiFi set to off.
If you leave wifi enabled the feature will automatically turn it off when you are not near the location of one of your saved networks, and then back on when you are again near that location. Don't manually turn off wifi, the feature won't turn it back on in that state.
I was wondering the same thing. I'll test this out today.
The description should say that WiFi will turn off when not in range of saved networks.
Sony makes it sound like we need to have WiFi off, and it'll turn back on automatically when in range.

Exactly, especially when another option, on the advanced wifi option page, says:
"Scanning always available: Let google's location service and other apps scan for networks, even when wi-fi is turned off"
because it gives the impression you can enable that, turn wifi off, but use the "location based" option to override your wifi disable to turn it back on again.
Scanning always available is a battery killer.
What I have noticed is that my Wi-Fi turns off when I leave my residence to work and stays off the entire time. It doesn't turn on automatically when you come home until something runs a scan of your location. I believe that is how it works and when it senses that you're near where your WiFi is it will turn it on automatically.

WiFi disables even with "Keep Wifi during sleep"

Hi.
I have been experiencing some annoying problems with my OnePlusOne device with regard to DLNA streaming and disconnection events.
When streaming thru DLNA over WiFi my OnePlusOne tends to disconnect from the WiFi connection when going into Sleep/Idle mode after about 5-10 minuter after the screen has been turned off.
Most importantly is that I already ticked the checkbox "Keep Wifi during sleep" within the WiFi settings!
I have tried several attempts with disabled the lock screen and battery savings set to maximum performance, both without luck.
Do you have any experience with this issue and any idea on how to make it more robust so it doesn't disconnect after a while?
Best regards
Thomas Jespersen

Wi-Fi always connected

Hi,
Despite selecting NEVER in Wi-Fi settings (to ensure wifi is off when sceen goes off) - it still seems to be connected constantly
Other phones works fine and wifi is off after 5-15 minutes depends of the model
Any thoughts?
Do you have Wi-Fi+ on? It's in the wifi settings, above your networks.
It works similarly to identifying where you are most, and turning wifi on when you are home, in the office, etc. And switching between mobile internet and wifi when it best suits you.
It will automatically turn wifi on even when it is off
nope, i actually have it turned off
Goto settings, battery, settings wheel in upper right. See if wifi is set to always on in sleep. I have found a few settings that repeat themselves.
i have also set to "never" here

Turn off wifi scanning in location settings, click the 3 dots in the upper right.
That's where I saw it. Good job

Joining wifi when in sleep mode

I've noticed my S7 will not join an existing wifi area when locked / sleep mode.
I have a WOL task that runs when the phone reconnects to a wifi access point. I have to turn the screen on then I notice the "connected to wifi" message come up.
I have excluded tasker from batter optimisation, but I don't think that is the problem. Also, wifi on during sleep is enabled.
