choppy 720/1080 60 fps video streaming - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I'm new here
I just noticed that 1080 and 720 videos at 60 fps have become choppy on my nexus 5.
I can't post links, but gamersyde 720/1080 60 fps videos (i.e. the Mario Kart 8 ones), for example.
Until some time ago my nexus played the streaming perfectly, without a single frame drop or stutter. Even 1080/60 videos from the same site. Now they have become choppy... could someone try and see if it is an issue from my phone? If so, what could it be?
Thanks

It could just be whatever service you're streaming from, or your connection. Are you sure it's definitely your device causing the issue? Any sort of streaming works fine for me with no issues whatsoever.

I'm using the same connection I have always used. Aniway, if I download instead of streaming, the framerate is perfect

I have tried other connections, but the results where the same: videos streaming at 720 or 1080 at 60 fps, that played perfectly until some time ago, now stutter

Can you do a speed test to make sure the connection speeds are not too low? Sometimes WiFI has issues reaching its potential speed.
For instance my WiFi should be about 16Mbps down, however from time to time my phone is unable to pull more than 4Mbps but it only really becomes apparent if I'm trying to stream high quality video.
I can fix it by either going into Airplane mode and back, or disabling mobile data while using WiFi which technically happens automatically but can still be used as a work around.

Also, you'll get choppy results if the video has DTS audio over the network without using a custom codec.

[Q] wifi and video stream buffering alot.

When I watch YouTube video in hq using the YouTube app. The video loads quite slow and it buffers every 5 to 10 seconds. My WiFi speed gets 20mb/s. Watching low quality like 320p gives me no problem that I'm aware of. Any fix to this?

HDMI performance

I found that the framerate drops when i connect my phone to TV via HDMI. I have tested with different videoplayers and the fpse emulator and they all slow down. I have also tested with the fps2d app and it shows that the framerate decreases. Does anyone know a solution to fix this or is anyone having the same problems?
the frame rate will likely be matching your tv.
that said, totally wouldnt be surprised if the jump from 800x480 to 1080p created some slowdown.

2 Problems regarding Streaming/Mirroring and slow Internet

I am trying to stream my Gear VR experience using a paid app called Screen Stream Mirroring. I can get it to stream with no problem however, any streaming I do results in a video fee that is EXTREMELY laggy, unwatchable. I'm connected to my home network, which I have zero issues with when streaming 1080 from my PC. I downloaded a seperate app to locally record what's on the screen, as soon as I start playing a game, it records it fine but as I go to watch my game through a video player app, the video is choppy. Maybe 1 frame for every 3 seconds. Same as when I stream for others to watch. Same thing happened when I connected my chromecast. My TV shows a mirror of my phone but it is horrendously laggy. I've had some serious issues with this phone since day 1.
Any idea what could be causing it? I've seen other users stream and mirror with no issues, why am I unable to do it? I can't record, I can't stream, and I can't even mirror to my tv because it all lags horrendously.
I'm using a Note 5. It's not running stock I'm using a custom OS and firmware courtesy to XDA.
I am currently using TEKXodus rom and SkyHigh kerner.
Last issue I have, and this is something I have had since day 1, is when ever I try to watch videos on youtube or download files, it's significantly slower compare to my Note 3. I can not watch 1080 videos or 720. Even at 640 my videos sometimes lags! I don't understand why, I have unlimited internet. I called Tmobil but they said that everything is working fine. Anyone has any ideas? I really dislike the Note 5 ;/ I miss my Note 3

Video Buffering?

Was wondering if anyone else has experienced video Lag or buffering. I know it isn't a network issue because I didn't have the problem on my note 8.
issue : I will click on a video and it will usually start to play right away but 5-10 second in it will pause like it's buffering and not start back, even though I can see the video is downloaded just fine. I will have to skip ahead 5 seconds or so for the video to resume playing again.
is this an issue of anyone else or just me?
I have the Same in YouTube
No in fact the 7pro is getting 30% fast network speed then my OP6 was getting in the same areas. I am Using YouTube Vanced and I'm watching 1440p videos with zero buffering and the full videos are cached by the time I'm about 60% through the video. Have zero complaints with any streaming source so far.
Mine doesn't have any real issues. There are times where it slows but I attribute that to network. Most times it works fine
Streaming over Youtube and Netflix are perfect for me but video does play kinda funny over LAN. Some network browsers would buffer to no end and HW decoding is out of sync over LAN for some files. Switching network browser apps and use SW decoding solved the problem for me.

I have noticed the same over LAN. What did you do to use SW decoding if you don't mind me asking?

I use both MX Player and VLC. MX Player is probably the easiest. There is an icon on the upper right that says either HW, HW+ or SW. Press it to change decoding mode. The out of sync files are always either HW or HW+. Switching to SW and they are back in sync, for me at least.
Anyone know a workaround for apps like Netflix and MLB at Bat playing video completely full screen and displaying a stretched image?

For Netflix, two finger pinch.

HANNspree HSG1351 and youtube app, freezing videos

Hi guys,I purchased this tablet though used but from recently I'm having issues with youtube videos.
Every once in a while the video stops (even 720p resolution) and I get on a video like "rotating indicator",I suppose it's buffering video and then video plays and then again freezes/stops and this happens every 2-3 minutes.
But sometimes like today the video at 720P plays fine.
I wish I could show you what is happening but I will try to record.
I can understand that this is old hardware, but I lower resolution to 720p and I can not believe that it can not play even 720 smoothly.
So what is the problem here, slow CPU,RAM,disk, wifi connection or what?
Can I somehow resolve this.
I'm also suspicious that somehow battery is an issue because when I connect external power bank over micro usb port, video goes smoothly.
But battery is at 80 % and still this happens.
So what to do,this drives me nuts?
Please don't write it's old,buy new tablet bla bla bla.
Yah it's old but I'm not expecting from it to render and encode vids, just play.
Even my old S7 edge plays smoothly videos.
I mean it's quad core and 2 gigs of RAM,that should be sufficent for 720p playback.
