[Guide][How To][D850] All Weather Effects on Lockscreen - AT&T LG G3

DISCLAIMER: I did not make this, nor do I want credit! I just installed it on my phone and wanted share my experience and using @ins5736 from Here - He stated if I got it to work to post up the info in AT&T forums
Original credit goes to:
@zone23 developed this with help from @OptimusRs
INSTRUCTIONS(altered slightly from linked post for what worked for me):
ROOT is required for this
I use Root Explorer for all of this since copying files and changing permissions is easy in it.
Download and extract the files.
Navigate to system/priv-app and locate stock LGKeyguard.apk and LGKeyguard.odex
Backup these files in case something goes awry! I made a copy and keep them backed up on my Dropbox.
Delete the stock files.
Move the modded LGKeyguard.apk to the system/priv-app folder(keep in mind that the one you downloaded is spelled lgkeyguard.apk so you'll need to rename it and make the LGK part UPPERCASE) then change permissions to rw-r--r--(644) and then reboot. During the reboot you should see "Android is Upgrading"
Per post#2 below - editing name may not matter - your choice on that
I was now able to see a shine effect which was showing me it was Sunny outside on my lockscreen:victory:
It got cloudy so I was able to get a screen shot finally of the lockscreen

the caps 'LGK' doesn't matter... mine are lowercase, no issue. also you don't need the odex file from the download, when you reboot the phone will make it's own odex file.
it should also be noted that if you lock your screen prior to rebooting then systemui will crash constantly which will make it difficult to do anything but pull the battery.
other than that, you're spot on

Got it - I edited the steps to remove the .odex step and added your point about the naming structure.

Not sure if serious? It's a stock wallpaper - I haven't found something I want to run on the lockscreen yet

How do I change the permissions?

It won't let me copy to the /priv-app folder. Do you need to be rooted to do this?

Do you need to have the weather widget running? Do you have to have Weather animation checked on in Lockscreen settings?
I am asking because every time I try to check the checkbox in lockscreen settings it tells me I need to change refresh interval in Weather settings, takes me over there to change it, then when I come back the check box is unchecked. I am not getting anything on the Lockscreen as far as weather goes.
Maybe some app out of the bloat that I de-bloated needs to be put back in?
Anyone has any ideas?
Thanks,

Work but other problems arose...
After I applied this fix, but I could no longer use my HOME and APPS buttons afterwards! There were also other strange behavior like the LOCKSCREEN would no longer even show up after I shut the phone off!
I removed the fix to get things back to normal...
Too bad!

My buddy just had the same thing happen on his phone, we were messing with it for a while and it would not remained checked. Although his GPS was on, i had him launch google maps to make sure location locked on. Went back to check the Weather animation and BAM it now works :victory: Not sure if this will work for you but it worked for him, worth a shot

Did you delete the original apk and odex file? You can't just rename then to bak. And you have to transfer the new apk first reboot then the new odex reboot. I had the same issues as you moving both at the same time.

Does someone have the apk file? The link to google drive only has the odex file now for some reason...thanks!

still no luck
I followed the procedure, exactly what have you written but still no luck.. I infact turn on the location and bring weather widget to home screen, I can see clouds moving in weather widgets but not on the lock screen..
Any help would be appreciated.

Both files are there. There is only one file that shows, but it is a .zip file that will contain both required files within the archive.

You can rename them to .apk.bak, or in my case, .apk2. As long as the file extension is changed, the file will not be read as though it is the original file
Is the modified odex file completely necessary for this process? I renamed both the apk and odex files, replaced the apk with the modified one and got weather animations after the first reboot. Should I bother replacing the odex file still?

It's not necessary from what others have said. Doesn't hurt anything as long as you do the apk first, reboot and then the odex file reboot

Makes sense. Thanks.
Has anyone else noticed the lockscreen rotating after installing this apk?

[Mod] Calendar.apk

I changed the application Calendar mainly for myself. Those brown wooden colors...
I would first have to thank you user agentdr8 for his deodex, again.
How to:
First, backup your existing TouchWizCalendar.apk and TouchWizCalendar.odex to somewhere else then remove them and replace with the attached TouchWizCalendar.apk, reboot.

VZW Tab - Calendar
Hey guys, I backed up my calendar.apk , and odex, and then deleted them and installed the new touchwiz calendar.apk It didnt work(which is ok) I then deleted touchwiz calendar.apk , and odex , and replaced it with the original calendar.apk and odex, and rebooted my system. My calendar is still showing up with no wood border, and whenever i try to access "calendars(in order to choose which calendars I want to display) it force closes. Can anyone help me out, maybe send me all the original apk's and odex files for calendar?
[email protected]
I don't know if Buzz mentioned on his first post, but the file posted most likely will only work on GSM tabs. The CDMA tabs (Sprint/Verizon) seem to have different framework files so both the modified Calendar and Contacts apks posted won't work. I asked one individual to send me the framework files from his Sprint tab but haven't heard back. If you'd like to volunteer your framework files and your calendar.apk and .odex, I can probably deodex them for you and put BF's modified pngs into it.
Does your Verizon tab have different calendar apps installed? The GSM-based ones have just TouchWizCalendar.apk/odex, but you mention a Calendar.apk/odex?
Hi,
Just wanting to say, mod is awesome - clean and simple
Just curious though - have you simply removed/replaced the images in the apks or have there been other tweaks..?
Having noticed that the Dialer pane in Contacts, Launcher, Mail and Camera don't scale as screen density increases. Would altering these apps so that they scale be do-able?
Thanks
Craig

Region doesn't matter.
How: e.g. contacts.apk
open contacts.apk with winrar, and u will see inside some folders.
All image files are always in res folder. U can unzip res folder to desktop and inside res folders are subfolders like drawable, drawable-hdpi...
there u have all images from apk. Im sure u know how to see image size and image formats (jpg, png..)
Than check what do u want to change, take one of your pics, resize it to same size, rename in same name as original and replace with existing one. Easy...
After editing just put new image back into folder in rar.
Navigate to eg. drawable-hdpi in winrar and put inside new image. Winrar will be auto replace file with new one.
Sure, first create backup of your original apk...in case you do something wrong.
hum.. I wasn't that careful, and just moved the original apk elsewhere and replaced with your apk.
Of course it didn't work, calendar didn't show in the applications drawer.
I replaced with the original but it force closes every 2mn, and still do not show in the app drawer.
Any tip?
I would like to avoid having to reflash my tab just for that...

it should be
well even the original app (i copied apk + odex in /system/app) still refuses to appear in the app drawer...
should I do something specific? wiping cache or...?
I rebooted, still nothing and the force close happens automatically...
EDIT :
finally reflashed my rom (non wipe so no trouble), made a proper backup and try again but still the same problem...
at least I could restore my calendar backup this time

There might be some differences in the framework files for JMI that MCR uses vs. say Roto's JMIv2. I used the modded Contacts and Calendar from JME on my new JMIv2 install and it works just fine.
If you'd like to upload your stock MCR TouchWizCalendar.apk I can compare it to the one from JME and see what needs to be changed.

[Q] Dark notification bar for 2.2

Does anyone still have instructions/required files for changing the notification bar on a 2.2 Droid X?
Before it is linked, I have already looked at teenfaces' thread; if you look, you'll notice that teenfaces has edited the initial post (presumably where the instructions were).
Just to cover all of my bases, I have tried the pre-2.2 post. (A boot loop says it doesn't work.)
Any suggestions?

If that is what you mean by notification bar, then changing that is pretty simple. I modify mine almost everyday. If you are rooted and have ninjamorph. The file is in System/Framework/Framework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi and is called status_bar_background.png. Simply modify that in photoshop, save as png and swap out with ninjamorph.
Alternatively I'm sure you could pull this out with adb. Commands would be
adb pull system/Framework/Framework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi/status_bar_background.png
then modify and save over that file
then adb push status_bar_background.png system/Framework/Framework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi/status_bar_background.png
then reboot.

That is what I mean.. However, in teenfaces' pre-2.2 post, it mentions changing the services.jar file.. Which is why I thought that simply changing the background image in the framework apk wouldn't work.
I have no experience with Ninjamorph. I'm not going to even try to play it off - I've only recently decided to take the plunge and root. (And I only decided to root because I wanted to change the font, phone-wide.) So, I'm pretty new to all of this.
Well welcome to theming. I am new to this as well. I have a few things on my modifying to-do list that I am completely stuck at. I will test out the adb codes I just posted and let you know for sure before you attempt.
{EDIT}Ok, this is best done with ninjamorph. I just tried through adb and got stuck in a bootloop. In photoshop create a document thats 480 x 770. This will be your statusbar background. Do what you want to it and save it as status_bar_background.png on your sd card where you can find it. I keep mine in a folder called THEMES.
In ninjamorph (free from market) Select:
Start Checks (will ask for root)
New Project
System
framework
framework-res.apk (it will extract the files)
res
drawable-hdpi
status_bar_background.png
then select the file you created from your sd card
hit the back button until you are on the main ninjamorph screen
select finish project
select framework-res
click yes
click no
click yes
it will reboot
when you reboot you may get a forceclose
hold your power button and reboot again
have fun!

Anywho. I'm interested in modifying the images for the battery, etc. I'm hoping to find those images in the framework-res.apk (I haven't looked yet.) Any words of caution before modifying those as well?

just make backups before attempting changing system files. I really do think ninjamorph takes the guess work out of a lot of things. I didn't have good luck pushing my framework-res.apk back in adb and that may be because of the rom I'm using. But there are lots of good batteries floating around on these forums. Good luck

You need to edit services.jar to change your font color to white. There is a video on youtube showing how to do this. Then the images are in the framework-res.apk open it with 7zip and move the new images into the .apk then boot to clockwork and push it with adb while in clockwork recovery. Then reboot. It should work, if not post back and I am sure someone here will try to help.
The actual .png for the status bar is statusbar_background.9.png. Since I don't know how to compile my own .9 png's I usually borrow somelses.

There is two files almost the same name. But the one I edited and got my name and fox logo on was Status_bar_Background.png... NOT the .9.png
Thats how it is on my rom anyways. I am realizing I have different system files than many people on here.
do you need to be deodexed for this to work? I've tried it twice now, and no dice.

I haven't tried anything yet (other than pulling the framework-res.apk). I'm still doing research. From what I've read, though, you definitely have to be deodexed.
I plan on attempting it this week.. If all goes well, I intend on writing some instructions up. In the meantime, if anyone else gets it done, feel free to post some helpful pointers!
Just so I'm clear, what I want to do is modify the notification bar and pull-down without using a rom.

I deodexed and tried a third time, still nothing. I think I'm deodexed that is. Is there any test to know for sure if your deodex process worked for sure? I used the OTA Auto-Deodex

yes
no
yes
the actual questions I get are
Confirm action - overwrite with finished project -yes
confirm action - zip align -no
reboot phone - OK (no yes or no option)
and then only once did i get a last yes/no about cleaning up files. i said yes.
are these the correct answers? and on the hit back button until main ninjamorph menu, is that the phone back button, or the on screen back button?

[Q] Change the color of the check mark?

Hi, this is a minor issue but it's starting to bug me.
Is there any way to change the color of the little check mark that appears when you select something?
On many of the apps that I use (but not all?) this check mark appears as a very light green color on a white background and is virtually invisible. I asked about it on a forum for one of the apps and was told that my phone must not be using standard android colors.
For example, on the Maps app that came with the phone, if I go to Settings and try to select something I will see the very light green color check mark. On the other hand, other apps, like the stock mail app, use a medium blue which is quite visible.
If I could get them all to use the blue that would be great. Changing the theme does not seem to affect the check mark.
Thanks!

This has been bugging me since I got XL.
My guess would be editing framework-res.apk
Just wanted to give this a bump in case somebody may have run across a solution. Thanks!
OP are you rooted? I thought you could change simple things like this inside framework-res.apk if you pull it from /system/framework.
If you open it using 7zip or winrar you should find the graphic in one of the drawable folders (i think the one youre after is called "drawable-xhdpi") which contain all of the graphics and icons that are displayed on your phone whenever you interact with it. Simply change the color of the check mark graphic to the color of your choice and reinsert it back where it was originally located within the zipped file. DO NOT UNZIP THE ENTIRE FILE! Just browse inside of it to modify the files inside so you don't break the files signature verification.
Back up your original framework file though as messing this up WILL result in bootloops. In fact, doing a nandroid couldnt hurt if you arent familiar with this.
Then just replace the original with your modified one.
Change your skin to matte in the personalization settings. It will change the checkmark to dark purple/black in MOST apps.

Here's a picture of the display menu within the maps app after modifying the appropriate file in framework. MUCH more visible. I just did black for this example.

This doesn't make any sense to me. Changing even one bit of a file will break a digital signature. Altering the color of a check mark will change many bits. So either the file is not signed, or the signature doesn't matter, or this won't work at all.
You must have unlocked bootloader of course. No signature check.

I tried this, and it only changed the check marks in Settings as far as I could tell. I checked 4 other apps including Twitter, Subsonic, and some others and they all still had the green check mark. Maybe I need to reboot?
I also just made a black check mark icon, and I'm going to try replacing the framework APK just as soon as my nandroid backup finishes.

Thanks. That's kind of what I meant. I was seriously out of it when I typed that originally. So yeah unlocked bootloader. Basically, so long as you don't decompress the original .apk and only swap files in and out from the COMPRESSED version, you should be good to go. Trying to use winrar or 7zip to recompile it will result in bootloops i promise
Sorry for the confusion.

What's actually kind of funny is I had the opposite problem. My check marks inside of the settings menu stayed green, but any check marks inside of apps are now the modified color.
Edit: nvm didn't read that right. I see you were referencing the other guy.

That does not work for me. I have been on the matte skin since I got my device. I don't see any dark purple or black checkmarks in any apps. Most of mine are the light (invisible) green, a few are a medium blue, which is decent. Are you sure there is not something else making your checkmarks black?
So I edited my framework-res.apk using drag&drop into 7zip without unzipping the file, as suggested. And then I did horrible things: I simply overwrote the file in /system/framework using Root Explorer. The phone immediately rebooted and won't boot now. Time to do a restore!
I guess I have to push the file using ADB while in Recovery/Fastboot? Or else make my own flashable zip? I'm definitely a modding noob.
Didn't back up the original huh? Sorry dude that sucks.
If you're comfortable with adb you can go that route but I have so far used the file manager function within TWRP to manually delete my old framework-res and the move the modified one to /system/framework. In order for you to be able to access the system partition you'll need to manually mount it using the mount function within recovery. Then go to advanced-->file manager and that should let you access up to root. Also, it never hurts to run fix permissions after changing something in the system directory.
This method is always easier for me since I'm not an expert with adb. That's strange you had problems though. The only time I've ever had bootloops was when I decompiled the .apk or changed the compression settings when replacing files inside of it. Hope you get it sorted out..

I had a backup in the form of nandroid. I also do have the file itself backed up, I just realized. I probably didn't need to do a restore. It's just that when my phone wouldn't boot I got scared and I wanted to make sure I could restore it!
I didn't realize how easy it is to fix permissions on a file in TWRP. I can run the batch command, and there is a permissions fixer in the file browser that just does chmod 755. It grants execute permissions as well as the other ones, but it's no big deal. Also, it's easy enough to change in Root Explorer once the system actually boots. Then you don't have to wait for the whole permissions fixer to run.

Thanks, I was just exploring this functionality. I forgot I had to manually mount system, so I was a bit confused why I couldn't see anything in there.
Hey, it just booted up with my modded file. Look at those nice, black check marks! The ones in Settings are still green. I guess they are using different resources, which explains why they changed when I changed skins, but none of the others did. I only changed the color of the "on" check mark, and not the "on disabled", or "on focused" ones, so they'll still be green. I don't really care if the check mark is green while I'm clicking the button, but I would like to change the disabled one.
Looking good sir. I was a bit worried my method was wrong or something. Good to see someone was able to get it done!

Yes, unless you modify the rom before you flash it. Personally, I'm hoping to learn enough about flashable zips to make this idea into a flashable mod. At which point I'll fix all the icons.
Success! I have created a flashable zip that changes the check marks to black. I also created an Undo version that restores the original framework-res.apk.
If anyone would like to test it out, send me a PM. It only changes the "on" checkmark, but that's the only one you really need. In the future, I will fix the other icons. This is my first Android mod, so I don't want to release it publicly until at least a couple of people have tested it.
If it matters, the framework-res.apk which I changed is the one that comes with CleanROM 4.1 LE. I don't know if Scott modified the stock version in any way, and I don't know if other Sense roms have changed this file, so I can't gurantee that this APK is 100% compatible with roms other than CleanROM 4.1. I would need to download the other roms and compare their file with mine.
The MD5 of the original /system/framework/framework-res.apk is d6d3f7f3808dd7d01ba2dd11babd3b64. So if your APK has the same MD5 then this mod will work for you.

Lockscreens, collection.

So my wife is Chinese and visits a site called GFan all the time. I was digging around there tonight and found a forum for the Xperia PLAY. And within that forum I found the link below. It is a collection of awesome lockscreens. Some are really cool, my favorite is lockscreen #3.
All lockscreens have download links at the bottom of the photos with direct links from the site, so no 3rd party download site.
Enjoy

If you extract the download of the lockscreen you will find a word document in there and use google translate and it tells you how to install the files. If you wanted to simply flash it I would change the name of the file from chinese text to english, like Lockscreen14, then extract it and recompress it from .rar to .zip Then you should be able to flash it from your recovery.
If you go to the download link of your choice from your phone it downloads. I did it last night and this morning without having to sign in. Also just noticed now that trying to download from your PC it asks you to sign in. Which is odd because I downloaded some last night using my phone and my PC and it didnt ask for the sign in/sign up. I'll see what I can do and if needed download all the files and link them here.
If I can do it it will take me a couple days as I have some overtime at work the next couple days. IF anyone before me is able to download them or some please link a d/l link here from another site.

I am not sure. On the site I get them from it says 2.3.4 So its worth attemping just make a nandroid before. Also I have yet to get these to work and probably wont as I am on 2.3.3
If anyone is willing to look into getting them to work and can post here that would be great. Currently the files are in .rar format. Extrscvting them it lists the files needed for the mod, but no folder format.
system/framwork/(files) etc
Just lists the files in the extracted folder with a guide on installing that is in Chinese and needs to be translated. I used Google Translate and from what it sounds like the guide just said to copy and paste the files in the appropriate places, listing where the files go, and changing permissions. However when I attempted it my phone jsut reboot, guessing its becuase the framework files were being overwritten when this should really be installed as a flashable zip.
Actually if someone is willing to switch them to a flashable zip that would be great too. Just make sure to change the name of the file from chinese to an english title of your own as it wont zip it in chinese for some reason.
I couldn't get any to work. I tried simply replacing the system framework files and changing the permissions. That didn't work my phone was getting stuck on boot up screen.

Awesome got it working.
Just replace your files from system-framework with the ones given and make sure YOU SET YOUR PERMISSIONS to RW- R-- R--
Also the reason I couldn't get it to work before was because the permissions were getting reset to default because the files were in SD card. So after I moved the files into my phone they didn't reset to default and it worked.
Remember move them In any place first just to set permissions then after move them to system-framework.
The lock screen is really cool but its grey and I was expecting it to be blue. Ahwell its still great.
THANKS

You can download the lockscreens from the site without registering. Just use your cell phone. When you select the download link instead of telling you to register/sign in, it just starts the download. Granted I do also have an account as well.

[MOD] Apple Color Emoji system-wide for KitKat+ (updated with unicorns)

To install:
Grab AppleColorEmoji.ttf and place it into /system/fonts/
Set /system/fonts/AppleColorEmoji.ttf to have permissions 644 (rw-r--r--) and owner:group root:root.
Modify /system/etc/fonts.xml like so:
Find
Code:
<family>
<font weight="400" style="normal">NotoSansSymbols-Regular-Subsetted.ttf</font>
</family>
Above this block, add
Code:
<family>
<font weight="400" style="normal">AppleColorEmoji.ttf</font>
</family>
Set /system/etc/fonts.xml to have permissions 644 (rw-r--r--) and owner:group root:root.
Reboot.
(Thanks cclaxx for mentioning permissions!)
Old stuff:
Not sure if this has been done before, but here is my work.
Screenshots (warning: large)
You get my point. They work the same way KitKat's colour emojis work.
What I did:
Asked someone (jakew02 on #cyanogenmod-dev) to help me grab Apple Color Emoji.ttf off an OS X 10.9 system.
Used code available here to extract the PNG files from the TTF file's SBIX table.
Used fonttools (ttx) to create an empty TTF file based on the original Apple Color Emoji.ttf and this template by Google
Used this code by Google to add the extracted PNGs into the empty TTF file in CBDT/CBLC (the OpenType extension Google created) tables
Took the resulting TTF file and threw it into /system/fonts/, modifying /system/etc/fallback_fonts.xml accordingly
And it works. This is unlikely to work on versions of Android pre-KitKat, unless support for CBDT/CBLC tables in font files is present (or backported from KitKat).
Update: No need to do all this anymore. Later versions of Android support sbix out of the box. Just adjust the platEncID/platformID in the cmap of AppleColorEmoji.ttf.
The font size and kerning (all the emojis are the same size!) doesn't seem all that great, but someone who knows fonts better can fix that using ttx. If anyone wishes to create a flashable zip for this, please do so.
Update: I've updated this for the iOS 9.1/unicorn emoji. Details here
Update: ligatures (mostly) now work. details
Thank Google for deciding to implement colour emoji (and releasing their tools for creating those fonts too!) in KitKat, because they essentially did all the work.
Looked for it great
How did you do the fourth step?
im running windows and couldnt launch it.
I want to port Touchwiz Smileys to KitKat.
Those looking best :fingers-crossed:
Use Python 2.7.
I did this all on Linux, so I'm not sure if this can be done on Windows or not. But since all the tools are written in Python, I'd imagine that it can with minimal effort.

Firstly, BIG THANKS to Angelsel, FusionAlex and cclaxx!
If you don't want to use the zip, simply download it and then extract the files (TTF and XML) out of the /etc and /fonts directories.
Summary of instructions:
1. Backup your fallback_fonts.xml file on your phone (found at: /system/etc/fallback_fonts.xml)
2. Copy the new fallback_fonts.xml into the /system/etc/ directory.
3. Set fallback_fonts.xml's file permissions to rw-r--r--
4. Copy the AppleColorEmoji.ttf into the /system/fonts/ directory. (Don't worry about overwriting anything, because this is a new file, it doesn't overwrite any of your other fonts).
5. Set AppleColorEmoji.ttf's file permissions to rw-r--r--
6. Reboot your phone.
7. Enjoy
The reason you don't have to overwrite any actual fonts is because the fallback_fonts.xml has been amended to look at the new (AppleColorEmoji.ttf) font before checking the standard android ones.

Well I'm not sure. It's possible that it won't even flash because I might have done something wrong. In fact it should of course be reversible because the only thing it's supposed to do is copy the 2 files and fix the permissions of them. Still I'd rather have someone who knows how those zips work take a look at it before someone tries it, because I don't have any experience
EDIT:
I took another look at some more recent flashable zips and changed some stuff again. I also decided to upload the unsigned zip in case someone wants to edit the zip and sign it
http://ge.tt/8kOOWOB1?c
EDIT 2:
OK, I think, that my zip would also work, but I found an app called ZIPme and created a flashable zip with it. It works perfectly (I just tested it on my phone)
So finally:
Enjoy this flashable zip of this amazing mod:

PS. If some experienced DEV could take a look at my original zip tho and told me if i did everything right I would still be happy

EDIT 2:
OK, I think, that my zip would also work, but I found an app called ZIPme and created a flashable zip with it. It works perfectly (I just tested it on my phone)
So finally:
Enjoy this flashable zip of this amazing mod:

Ge.tt and Amazon S3 seems to hate me. I can't download your original zip.
The second zip will work fine, but there is no need to set permissions - extract_dir's default permissions (and file ownership) are already correct. This zip sets the owner/group to 1000/1000 (system, iirc) which is not correct; the files should be owned by root (uid/gid 0, naturally).
Thanks for creating a flashable zip

This is really good but the font seems to be incomplete. I get messages that just show a square instead of the emoji in the notification bar.
