Help/Question updating from CM 10.1.3 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

As the title says, I have been with Version 10.1.3 for some time. But as all thing, I would like to update the phone to the newly released CM 11 M9.
I am currently running ClockworkMod Recovery Version 6.0.2.3
Is it ok for me to just update the Recovery to the latest CWM, and then update to the latest CM version?
Id rather not have a borked phone.
I have been out of the loop for a while, and especially with people who are getting S3's and the bootloaders are locked, there is too much information going around not pertaining to me.
I appreciated any input.

Your already on cm so you should be good to go. You can't flash custom roms as far as I know without your bootloader being unlocked. Do you remember what version of Android you were on prior to having cm installed?
And you do have the vzw S3 correct?

Sorry, Yes I have the S3. and I got it right when the phone was released, maybe waited a month or so and then flashed. So im thinking maybe 4.2/4.3? So i know my bootloader is definitely unlocked, because i do know I unlocked it after the crack was finally available for the S3.
I was more concerned about flashing a new recovery rather than CM..cause ive heard of the newer recoveries giving people trouble.
So you think I should be good?

Its truly up to you. I started with cwm then have used twrp and philz. The thing I like about trwp is that it's completely touch screen and doesn't rely on the buttons of the phone at all. Philz is an advanced version of CWM. It's more or less personal choice

[Q] Getting to Cyanogenmod 10.2 without bricking

I have a new tf300t with Android 4.1.1 on it and I have followed an older guide to unlock the device and it said to put clockworkmod on it and the Cyanogenmod forums indicate a problem with that, so I went TWRP instead. The twrp site said to pick the right version (-jb) and I did that.
I put 2.6.latest of twrp on and did a backup. Everything is going great. I rooted the device with SuperSU, Copied over CM 10.2.nightly and the right gapps version and it flashed fine. I booted in and I let it go for awhile and it just bootlooped. I went back into twrp and reflashed to ensure that wasn't an issue (same problem) and restored and I'm back to the beginning. I decided to try the 10.1 version on Cyanogen's site and had the same issue. I'm thinking it's the bootloader version doesn't match -- needs to be 4.2, but I want to be careful not to brick the device since a lot of people have done that.
Any guidance or pointing me at a thread would be appreciated. I have a feeling that letting the OTA update take place on the device kind of ropes me into a corner I might not want to be in. I'd really like to be on the latest Android OS *assuming* most of the tf300t features work. I can handle some odd things not working quite right.
Thanks,
Rich
Step1
It appears that my semi-direct path is to get to the newest [MINUS 1] version of 4.2.1 from Asus.
TF300T-US_epad-10_6_1_27_1-UpdateLauncher.zip
Many newer ROMS require this boot loader, and many people say to stick with the twrp 2.5.0.0 because 2.6.x.x is buggy. I can confirm that 2.6.x.x (latest), the mount feature does appear to be broken.
My only concern now is timing. Upgrade to 2.5.0.0 first, or upgrade using fastboot to the new Asus rom. It might not matter and I might need to put TRWP back on after the flash anyhow.
Also, I did root my current OS before doing this update, so it will be interesting to see if that remains intact.
Rich
Step3
I used fastboot to update and I thought I could apply the TWRP 2.5.0.0 update right after it, but it wouldn't take it. I was a little worried that I borked it. It booted and went into the OS and updated a bunch of things. I noticed my SuperSU was no longer root even though it was going to try and survive the update.
Also: I switched to the 4.2 Launcher... not sure I want my tablet to run just like my phone. I might switch back.
I'm still going to try and get to a CM 10.2 rom, it might not be an official rom though.
Rich
Step 4
I decided to see where things were at with a fully tweaked 4.2.1 rom before the 4.3 rom and picked
[ROM]★●[TF300T/G/L/201/301][CROMi-X 5.0.2][ODEX/DEODEX 10.6.1.27.1][SEP 8]●★
This looks very well done/well polished and has lots of people testing it. Will update as I head to 4.3.

[Q] Random Question

Hey guys I have a random stupid question. My phone is rooted and I have safestrap recovery installed but I haven't messed with it in a while. I have a few roms on it but I for some reason I can't remember I have just been using the stock rom. I've been getting prompted for system update for a long time now but it errors out when I install it (probably because of being rooted). How can I manually install the latest "stock rom". What is the actual name for the stock rom? Right now I'm running 9.16.6.XT926.Verizon.en.US which is android version 4.1.2. Since I haven't messed with it in over a year I would imagine there's quite a few updates to the one I'm running. So basically my question is what is the official name for the stock rom (I keep wanting to call it firmware but I'm pretty sure thats not it) and where can I get the latest and greatest. Thanks!

Yeah, the update is probably failing because of something you did with root access. However, before you decide to update, I would unlock your bootloader. You're still on a system version that can be unlocked. Once you're unlocked, you can FXZ to the newest update, flash an aftermarket recovery, and then flash a SU.zip to gain root.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/vh04gc3ysgib7i9/VRZ_XT926_9.8.1Q-94-1_CFC.xml.ziphttps://www.dropbox.com/s/vh04gc3ysgib7i9/VRZ_XT926_9.8.1Q-94-1_CFC.xml.zipYou are on the last software version which allowed bootloader unlocking. So if you haven't already done so, you should unlock first. Here's a screenshot showing the current software version. Also included link to the zip.

[Q] Rooted, with 4.1.2 MB1 - but want 4.4.2?

As the title says, i've got a s3 that I haven't been using for awhile as I also have the S4, but may want to sell the S4 and go back to the S3 just to raise some funds. I've also got TWRP installed, but don't know what version, I think i's the latest, but not sure. What do I have to do to install a 4.4.2 rom or even factory image - I really don't mind TW?
Thanks,

cant you just flash the image in odin?
i guess you could re-lock your bootloader with ez-unlock. reinstall the factory recovery with ez-recovery and take the ota. but i could be wrong
i have the unlocked bootloader and i am willing to wait for the DEVs to do their magic
hopefully
Have you tried any of the AOSP 4.4.4 roms? Gummy has been solid for me. I shied away from AOSP until recently as everything that I use now works great. I won't go to a locked bootloader by Odin'ing ML1, NC1 (both 4.3) or NE1.

If root can even be obtained this might be an option, otherwise your probably out of luck
Sent from my Nexus 5
Root has been obtained @ShapesBlue
Nobody has created a ROM for i535PP users yet(the i535 roms run but no wifi/data). And you're correct about having to use safestrap to flash it.If you're comfortable with a bash terminal you can try using one of the various tools found around here to modify the stock rom. If you're not then I'll see what I can do this weekend and try to get something for us i535pp users (after a day or so of testing)

Ok, there wasn't really a need to mention me in this thread. Everytime someone does that I get an email. And just because root has been obtained doesn't mean you can flash roms via safestrap

Flashing via safestrap appears to work fine on my i535pp. The only issue I ran into was wifi not working with roms meant for the i535. And sorry for you having to receive an email for that.

Its cool. Good to see safestrap works on the prepaid version also

I'm not sure what a bash terminal is unless it's the same thing as the terminal emulator. I tried using that rom that's called paulpizz or something like that. I used some other rom to. The paulpizz one always failed to install even after downloading it a third time. The other one i can't remember the name but it installed but wouldn't start at all. It would just go black and bootloop and goes into stock recovery for some reason. I came across the nf5 module when i found that paulpizz rom on the goo server they hosted it on. So i got the module and i figured if i were to flash the module over the i535 rom that it would fix the wifi an data problem but never got an answer because it always failed to start up properly and would just bootloop into stock recovery. Ugh Verizon is making things so difficult with modding lol. As of now I'm just using xposed to get at least some theming in and tweaks. I couldn't get any deodex program to work. Whenever i used the deodex files and pushed them to the system of apps and framework, it would restart and just stick on the Verizon logo. So i had to flash the firmware to fix the problem.
When i was on 4.3 with this phone safestrap worked and i got the wifi and data sim error. Now that i got it replaced I'm running the kernel of July 22 2014. Everyone was saying I'm out of luck but i came across kingroot and got the most recent version and it worked. I have root. Installed safestrap for 4.4 and it runs fine but can't get any custom roms to boot. I only managed to find one 4.4 touchwiz rom unfortunately

If you're going to try flashing an i535 rom and then the i535pp modules let me know how that goes, can't test as I won't be able to do anything till the weekend. If that's the case then there's no need for roms for the pre paid version. Cyanogenmod was also bootable but very buggy.

I'll let you know how it goes and thank you. How is it that you were able to boot CM? From my understanding being that the bootloader is locked and has Knox for extra security to make the unlocking like impossible. But a genius came up with safestrap so we are able to use some custom roms but the down side is that it has to be the same Android OS and has to be a touchwiz based rom. So how are you getting lucky with all this? I love CM and I'd pick CM over any custom rom any day but i gave up an lost hope of ever getting CM because of the locked bootloader

Safestrap 3.75 had support for AOSP roms (wifi/data didn't work for them either) and 4.0 dropped support for that (there is currently no point). Read the thread for more info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2797314
Ok i wasn't using safestrap 4.0. I had 3.75 B05 which i thought was the latest version they had. I'm updated to 4.0 now and about to test the modules on the superlite rom
Update: i have tried the super lite rom using safestrap. The boot animation won't work during start up. When it gets to the welcome screen it freezes. It still does it even without applying the nf5 module. It freezes and will keep popping up that system isn't responding. System just keeps freezing and prompting me to wait or force close. So not sure why my s3 has a problem running it but yours don't

Well no. The instructions just said to do a full wipe off everything then install and reboot so extra what i did. What version you running of the rom?

I'm running the stock prepaid rom, not superlightrom, sorry if there's any confusion there.
When I tried out superlightrom (quite some time ago) it appeared to work fine (excluding wifi/data and nagging about no SIM card being inserted, nothing like what you're describing) and I went back to stock.
Oh ok. Well it seems that the prepaid version or the s3 in general is dead. That's unfortunate

Cyanogen mod ROM repository

Hi guys, been off the scene for quite a while, so please forgive me if I'm not really up to date with the latest.
I own a OPO anad currently I have Cyanogen 12.0 installed. Lately my phone started to play up, not sure if I got some kind of malware but I thought it was a good occasion to update my ROM. Historically, I've always used CM but they seem to have disappeared completely (they used to have a nice website with all the phone models and the corresponding compatible ROMs, but I suppose that since when they went out of business things might have changed quite a bit). Can they be found somewhere? If not, I'd appreciate any advice on what ROM would be good to have - considering though that even my Teamwin Recovery needs updating as somehow it thinks I'm on an older version of android.
Cheers

Firstly,this should be in QnA..
Secondly,
For latest recovery,

Recommended rom- https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...m-kernel-unofficial-lineageos-14-1-3-t3626403
thanks, do I need to install the recovery first and then the ROM? Also, are there any instructions for the recovery here or should I have a look on the net?
thanks
