[Q] Bricked...Sorta.... - HTC One Mini

Hi there, long time reader, possibly posted before but I cant remember my account name so I suppose I am a newbie.
1) Unlocked boot loader fine
2) Installed TWRP fine
3) Rooted fine
4) Installed CM11 and Gaaps
5) Restored all my apps from Titanium
Yaaaay ready to rock or so I thought. Only to be faced with "mobile network not available" so my intention was to flash another CM11 or other CM if it was possible to get it actually working to make phone calls. In my attempts to do this I cleared everything, so no OS. I can get into the bootloader and recovery mode still but that
ADB thing refuses to work. So as of now my PC cannot see the device to copy the rom files onto it.
Am I right in thinking if I get a USB OTG and put a rom on it, I can flash it from there??
I would settle for any custom rom at this stage that functions and doesnt have bloatware.
Failing that, would it be allowed here to ask for an image of a working htc one mini m4 to be uploaded somewhere that I can work with?
I wont be able to do anything until i get the USB OTG. Ive tried everything with ADB.
Your help would be so much appreciated.

hi,..
So first I´m not quite sure if an otg will work but it´s really worth to try it...
But after a (maybee) sucsessful flashing of a ROM via OTG there is no way around to get adb and fastboot to work.
Next I have to say is you should post some information about your phone.
h-boot Version
OS version
CID-Number if you know.
Only with this information sombody here can help you to find the right ROM.zip for flash trough recovery.
(if the firmware and the ROM do not match you are running in to multiple issues)
greets

Thank you

So,.....
It would be very interessting what firmware was on your device..
But as we can see the bootloader shows "OS- " so I suppose with h-boot 2.21.0000 it was 3.10.xxx.x.
I ran in same Problem a few weeks ago.
Recovery write: Can´t mount sd card and can´t mount data
I formated data in TWRP-recovery....(formated not only wipe...deletes everything on device).
As far as I remember after that adb returns to work and I sideloaded a new system.
I recommend you to flash first a stock or stock "near" system then and try to get s-off (to get rid of your problems)
But your first goal is to get a working OS on your device and get adb to work
A little help could be:
In fastboot mode :
"fastboot erase cache"
then reflash TWRP 2.7.1.1 with "fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img"
If this don´t work out the only way is USB-OTG cable.
greets
edit: honestly I think the CM11 thing is a story after getting device back to life...
an other question ....what do you get if you type in adb when device is in recovery mode: "adb devices"
If needed here you can find a working sense 5.5 rooted stock rom (should work with your frimware) to start with:

Thanks. adb devices will sometimes show the serial number I think, adb push CMupdate.zip I get "cannot read cmupdate.zip"
Fastboot flash recoery recovery.img works.
I have ordered a USB OTG so hopefully by friday I will have it. Im not sure how to show you the firmware? I thought I listed everything needed?

No, its not your fault...
Normaly firmware ist listed in bootloader under OS-3.10.401.3 (for example).
But sometimes after a bad flash when the partitions are messed up or so OS dissapears from bootloader like we can see in your case.
I know from HTC ONE M_7 that there are also some releases of TWRP-recovery that make dissapear OS-Numer from bootloader
but I don´t know if this is similar to the HTC One Mini.
If you get a a serial nuber from adb in recovery mode.. adb should work.....
Do you know how to sideload a ROM via adb and have you allready tried it?

Yes side load does not work.

I have a serious headache now. I tried so many roms and none of them let me make or recieve calls. The 3g mobile data is working. Would this work if the IMEI was blocked?
I also tried to update the firmware and ran into problems error 155 and error 132. I am really close to giving up.

[Q] EMERGANCY please help s4 based htc one x

i just got my one x today, unlocked bootloader, rooted, i followed the intructions at onexroot and was sucsessful, i dont know exactly what recovery it is, its file is called openrecovery-twrp-2.1.7-evita.img, anyways flashed sucsesfully and everything then i went to install a button mod, i cant find where i got it, anyways it said sucsessful, but when it booted it hangs at the one x screen, i was an idiot and failed to make a bake up, i clicked factory reset in recovery hoping to remove the bad file, no good, i downloaded a custom rom, but i cant put it on the sd because it wont mount, i get
* verifying filesystems...
* verifying partition sizes...
E:unable to mount /sdcard
E:unable to open ums lunfile: (no such file or directory)
please help im freaking out, what can i do to fix it
First turn off ur mobile ( hold down power button until it turns off)..then hold down power and volume down together... is it getting into the bootloader??
since u rooted and installed a custom recovery u must have used 'fastboot.exe' somewhere....did u ???
i have fast boot exe on my computer, im new to this but i dont think i can get it into adb shell, i tried, maybe did it wrong, sd wont mount and no backup like an idiot, and yes i can get into bootlaoder and recovery, thank you so much for quick response
after some fiddleing i can get it into fastboot and it makes the detected sound on the computer but adb still doesnt recogized it, it says no device found
There wil be no adb in fastboot....and i guess it is better to download a RUU(ROM upgrade utility)... its just a exe file...I guess downloading it and running it wil flash the stock ROM in ur phone and there wil be no problem i guess...
ive installed htc sync and am downloading the ruu, if its a earlier version does that matter? im not sure but i think it was at 1.85, or 1.75, the one i found is 1.73, and once downloaded what do i do, total noob, sorry, thanks again
I guess the RUU must be of same version.... Its better if u find the exact version..i am also a noob..so not sure about different version.. btw where did u search for RUU??
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...ashing_a_RUU_to_completely_restore_your_phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1543604
i typed the first command and its stuck at waiting for device???
Yo man dont freak out youre Phone is perfectly fine here take a detailed look at this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_One_X
And after that if you still can`t do anything go to youre specificc htc one x thread from the forum and post there those guys will help you faster and fail proof
I had a desire z and i remember that first you must boot the phone in download mode and then the ruu will find it anyway i wish you luck
it wont go into download mode
by first command which command do u denote?? and wat do u mean by download mode??
"fastboot getvar version-main"
somewhere in the myriad of xda threads ive read it said ruu required you to be in download mode, interstingly enough fast boot works on my mac partition, but not my windows, possibly an issue with windows 8 but idk
Possibly HBOOT driver issue oly....phone is in 'usb fastboot' oly right??? and does 'fastboot devices' list ur device??
it goes into fastboot usb, if i click bootloader it says hboot, but when i do adb it says device not found, i dont know where fastboot devices is listed
Phone should be displaying 'fastboot usb'.... Then oly fastboot.exe wil work.....and adb wont work both in 'fastboot usb' and 'hboot'....when in 'fastboot usb' ...in computer type the command 'fastboot devices'....does it list the devices??
it lists a serial number
note that all the drivers and files i have come from htc sync or onexroot.coms bootloader unlock and root pages
then fastboot mode is working fine...what recovery, kernel and ROM are u in...sometimes the problem u stated might occur due to kernel and ROM mismatch...For recovery i would recomend you to install ClockworkMod Recovery....
could you point me to one that works, ive tried 2 supposed cwm recovieries and they both hung at at the legal disclaimer, twrp is the only one that loads
may i know how r u installing the cwm recoveries??? and were u able to run "fastboot getvar version-main" ??

Recovery is gone..?

hey guys,
i have a big problem. i bought a photon q 4g from ebay.
its with sim mod and had a unlocked bootloader (status code: 1)
so i readed some topics about using custom recovery and root for the phone and started
its not the first time i flashed a phone i already had droid2, droid3 and droid4
first i get stuck because fastboot was giving me a message of "variable not supported" & "download size to large"
but i found a mfastboot that flashed the recovery without a error message
so i restart the phone but the recovery not come up.
booting the system is no problem.
but when i wanne go in recovery (power+vol up, from bootloader, adb reboot recovery..) the phone restarts and boot up normal.
Moto boot logo->moto boot logo again->boot animation->system
i tryed to erase recovery and flashed again but the same happen.
tryed with cwm and twrp. maybe someone have the original 3e recovery.img?
and for what is the console option under APfastboot in the boot menu select?
someone know whats the difference between status code 1 & status code 3?
deleting userdata & cache with fastboot only reset the rom i have. :silly:
Status code 3 should be what you need. Maybe you should try unlocking it for yourself to make sure that it actually was unlocked. There are instructions for the full process from unlock to installing recovery to getting root in my signature if you need step-by-step.

that was one of the first things i tryed but it not work. iam not sure what fastboot was saying (i`l look it up when iam at home) something like "no unlock data"
but when i start APfastboot it say "UNLOCKED status code:1" so its not locked.
but cant find information about the difference.
Edit: i see that i have no recovery-from-boot.p. someone know where i can get the correct one?
some more information: the phone run "AP Fastboot Flash Mode (NS) 10.97"
when i typed fastboot getvar all i saw
(bootloader) secure: no
(bootloader) mid: 0000
(bootloader) unlocked: notsupported
(bootloader) iswarrantyvoid: notsupported
the phone is running a not released test firmware with some apps that are not made for public i think.
there is a su in system/xbin and one app named TamperDetect(qualcomm app?)( only 2 button "get var" and "set var") say the phone is permanently rooted
but i installed superuser and it not work.
but other app called DockStatus(moto app?) let me make a adb over wifi with [email protected]_c: #
could that help me fixing my problem?

I would try giving Motorola a call and see if they can help you. I would think they would at least be able to tell you the difference between the status codes, though who knows if they could get it unlocked for you or not.
no here is no good support in germany
and i read status code 1 = developer device
and why should it be locked if the phone say unlocked?
Why don't you go into the Bootloader menu and try it from this point into the recovery?

if u read my first post correct u will see i tryed and it not work..
Argh, sorry, I only read the first (key-combination) and overread the bootloader and adb.
My Bootloader version is 10.9B.
But my first Line shows "AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S)" instead of (NS).
You should try to contact the american Motorola support...
At least you should try to get some help from them.
I think because you got a developer device, it is slightly different with the partition sizes.
edit: What is with OTA updates on Stock ROM?
i found out S stand for secure NS for non secure
Please try "adb shell" and then "su", do you get a "Permission denied"?
If that works, you should be able to remount the /system partition to rw.
This way you should also be able to install superusers su, somehow... (sorry, never installed it that way)
But this won't help you in your situation.
Please backup your /system, before you make a custom firmware on it (if you'll ever have success).
Those test apps might be interesting.
As you already tried to flash a custom recovery, I assume that the "stock" (or test) recovery is already gone.
My thought is to bring your Bootloader up to date. But I'm not sure, if that would brick your device.
I'm also not sure, if Motorola America will be helpfull with a developer device in your hands.
But without a (valid) sbf flash file you won't be able to flash the appropriate firmware. I haven't seen any official sbf file for our Photon Q.
Theoretically I would say, that you could also try to flash a FXZ file, but it could also brick your device. (Please don't forget to backup /system)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2095536
i know that flashing all can brick the phone thats why i not test it for now.
and yes the root via adb work.
i only found 1 guy in the internet with the same problem like me. he said it was fixed when he flashed a older recovery from GB but is there a old recovery img like this? (this guy had an other phone)
I saw somewhere a stock recovery (that's how I made my OTA Updates).
I still got it, but I prefer to find an uploaded one.
recovery.img 10MiB
CRC32 386A247D
MD5 46CB664521F98B1C1987C288A101A5EC
If you (or I) won't find it, I'll upload it.
Edit: Found it -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2333094
Another one -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856456
thanks but this files i tryed already;/
i only made a copy of /system/ folder for now
i flashed all with rsd lite 6.1.4 now. and it worked

Ok
First I recommend you to unlock your bootloader.
So if you are in bootloader and your device is not recognised I think it´s a driver issue.
If you allready checked it check it once more or update your tools (ADB, fastboot)
If nothing helps you could go to recovery and format your device (not only wipe format) should be clear that all data on device is lost.
Try different recoverys some people report that philz also works fine on M_4. (try install new rom option on philz).
DONT flash stock sense 6 ROM (wrong partition layout for this hboot) with this hboot rather take 5.5.
I´m sorry but without get connectet via ADB or fastboot I think there is no chance to get it working again.

I tell you in short terms:
If you can´t get a fastboot connection to your device it looks very bad to bring your device back.
For wiping something you need recovery for flashing new recovery you need fastboot.
For flashing a new firmware to fix messed up partitions you need fastboot.
And first of all to unlock your bootloader you need fastboot.
You see all ends up with fastboot.
As what the device is shown in the manager of windows?
Better to use Windows 7 there are much driver problems people reporting on win 8

If you have a connection via fastboot you first have to decide what ROM you want, search for the matching firmware.
for example flash the latest firmware for M_4... 4.09.401.3 from here (new partition layout for e.g. sense 6):
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BzCFBBNdXagdcEMybkdBME5iUE0/edit
After that flash TWRP 2.7.1.1 or philz and format all you have to try one of this recoverys should work.
Next push or sideload a ROM via adb I recommend you one them:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc...-official-stock-sense-6-rom-firmware-t2817921
You can decide what you want rooted or not it doesn´t matter.
After installing with succsess try to reboot that´s it.

I encountered a similar issue when playing around with returning my device to stock. I flashed stock recovery, then re-locked my bootloader. What is the downloading screen you're seeing? Is it the stock recovery screen?
To fix, i had to change CID back to stock (for me that was, CWS__001)
Unlock bootloader again, using HTC unlock.bin (unlock.bin wouldn't work when i was on super cid)
Flash custom recovery TWRP 2.6.3.0 (I'm not sure if 2.7.1.1 works with the old partition layout, so i used this version until i had upgraded to hboot 2.22, then I flashed 2.7.1.1. This may be an unnecessary step, but it always worked for me)
Once twrp was working again...
Flash stock hboot 2.22 found in the dev section
Flash TWRP 2.7.1.1 (again, might be an unnecessary step)
Boot to recovery
From TWRP, adb push the sense 6 rom i wanted to flash (IC 3.07 in my case)
After the push completed, flash ROM and reboot and all was good
As you can see, the steps i took require that fastboot and adb drivers work flawlessly, especially when pushing ROM to the device using abd.
If any of this seems unfamiliar, then don't do these steps. Again, this is just what i did when i flashed stock recovery and re-locked bootloader with a ROM that wouldn't boot.

Did you get fastboot working yet? Does "fastboot devices" show your device? You can't do anything until fastboot works...but I imagine it worked at some point, since you unlocked and re-locked your device.
You can't install recovery because your bootloader is locked. And you can't unlock your bootloader until you change your CID back to whatever it was when you created the unlock.bin file on the HTC website.
Are you getting this error when you attempt to unlock?
FAILED (remote: unlock token check failed)

That's what i had to do when i first tried to root my phone. I was on Windows 7, but it was an old install and had all kinds of software on it that might have been preventing usb from working (iTunes, HTC Sync, some other random software, etc.) Sometimes, I would even have trouble connecting an external HD!
I ended up installing a clean copy of XP on an old computer that i now use strictly for flashing stuff to my phone.
New problem
I have 4.3 on my HTC now and have received an update for 4.4.2, however when I try this it goes a quarter of the way then comes up with a red triangle and exclamation point. The device is still rooted somehow. Can you help me update?

I don't think OTA will work on unlocked/tampered device with custom recovery.I think you need to run ruu.exe if one is available for you to get 100% stock before OTA will work again.

Hello,
I found an FUU for 4.4 Kitkat on the link you posted earlier, It does all the necessary actions with no failures and completes with a Congrats screen but the firmware is the same?

[Q] M4 soft-bricked! Cannot restore backup! Need help!!!

Hey guys,
I seriously need help with my M4. I think I might have soft-bricked it :crying:
Here's what I have done:
I unlocked it and installed TWRP 2.7.1.1 to install a custom ROM. The thing is, I didn't know it was branded (as I found out too late, the CID is VODAP102), so the ROM wouldn't install. Now, I tried to change the CID to a SuperCID (11111111) but ran out of luck. So I thought I'd simply revert to Stock. So far, so good. Yesterday I got an update notification for a Sense 6.0 update but it wouldn't install. So I successfully flashed the stock recovery but the installation of the update halted (red exclamation mark). I then went back to flashing the boot.img too (from an UL rom, unfortunately) and relocked the bootloader. Still the same error. Then I read I should factory reset in the bootloader. So I did and the result was I got stuck on the bootscreen!! So I unlocked it again, re-installed the TWRP recovery to at least get back to the backup I made before, but the thing is: My storage got wiped and TWRP won't mount OTG-USB!!! I guess it's that some partitions/files are now messed up. Now I cannot do anything anymore. I don't have the stock ROM as a flashable zip, only the TWRP backup.
Here's what still works:
Fastboot & Recovery
What doesn't work:
ADB (because phone won't boot), ExtSDcard (naturally!) and flashing ROMs via fastboot because I need one that matches that damn Vodafone CID
I think if someone could upload their Vodafone Germany M4 ROM as a zip or exe, I could manage it. If someone has it, PLEASE give it to me!
If someone has any other idea how to get this phone to work, or at least get TWRP to mount the USB-stick, please HELP!!! I'm totally at a loss :crying:
You can ADP from TWRP so all is not lost

Well, if I start ADB sideload in TWRP, it says it is starting but then nothing happens. Or does it take more than 5 minutes? Because cmd says no devices found :/
It doesn't have to be sideload. You could ADB any old ROM from any screen, and then install it. It would at least get you back on your feet.

Could you explain this? I go into TWRP while connected to the PC and then? When I type 'adb devices' it shows nothing, so I though I need to go into 'Adcanced > ADB sideload' in TWRP...

What does your Windows device manager show when you're in TWRP but not sideload mode?
I've been wrong before but I believe from sideload mode "adb push firmware.zip /sdcard/" should work as normal.
Hi, thanks for your reply.
The device manager lists it as HTC One Mini but with a yellow question mark. When I plug it in, it recognizes it and installs all the drivers with the exception of the MTP driver, and it won't let me manually install it. In fastboot, it is listed as "MyHTC".
When I go into adb sideload mode in TWRP it gets stuck on telling me it starts the service but nothing happens. "adb devices" remains empty in the cmd console.
As I said, I DO have a backup, only I cannot restore it as TWRP is unable to mount the USB-OTG. I simply cannot check the box (all other partitions data, system etc. work)! I tried 3 different sticks and TWRP versions 2.6.3, 2.7.1.0 & 2.7.1.1. On a friend's M7 TWRP loads that stick in a few seconds. ADB is not working as I said, otherwise I could simply push the file to the internal SD and see if I can restore it from there :/ I think it may have something to do with TWRP not being able to fix permissions, too (it tells me to boot the system once after factory reset, which I cannot do of course!) but I'm not sure....
What I have also tried is setting back the phone (relocked, stock recovery, cache erased) via rebootRUU and a Vodafone DE firmware zip but it tells me "read zipped android info fail" and aborts. Probably because I'm on a higher hboot version than the one in the firmware zip and I cannot go S-OFF without ADB working -.-
I'm struggling with this for 3 days now... Is there nothing I can do to get it booted into anything???
Duh! The Mini is back to life! Weirdly, when I uninstalled the HTC drivers and installed an older package, my device - in recovery mode - showed up under 'adb devices' and I pushed the whole TWRP backup to the sdcard, did a restore and there it is! The only thing that bothers me is that now the Windows device manager shows a yellow question mark on 'CDC Serial'. What does that mean? And why is my device not listed under 'adb devices' anymore after restoring? Very weird
But thanks again!!! Very happy now :good:

Hey, I was wrong about the HTC drivers, this was not the issue. The issue was that the latest TWRP recovery (2.7.1.1) did not work in adb mode for whatever reasons. The solution was not older drivers (as they update anyway) but to install an older TWRP version (2.6.3.0 worked for me).
This is only when you cannot boot into your system and have to adb push something to your sdcard. If the phone is not recognized when connected with a booted system running, the only fix is to remove drivers and programs that could interfere (Samsung Kies, HTC Sync, e.g.), reboot, reinstall the drivers, plug your phone into a different USB port and just hope 'adb devices' gets a result, otherwise try all over again.

[Q] Unlocked, reflashed, app ran into problem phone restarted and bricked?

Hi there,
Im still kinda a noob with android...
but i managed to unlock my htc sensation trough the steps @HTC,
changed the recovery, tried to flash a rom.
it failed due to my phone not being S-off. so i flashed it back :/
no problem there i thought just a rooted htc.
downloaded an app to remove bloat. and all seemed fine...
I was playing Clash of Clans, and it gave a message that the Google play services stopped and the phone rebooted.
when booted the lock screen was frozen, i pulled out the battery to find out my phone is unresponsive..
When i connect to windows 8, it cant recognize my phone at all
When i connect it to a charger i dont see the charging light.
and the worse thing is.. i cant get into the recovery.
any idea's what i can try?
i checked out the [unbrick] tread but i cant seem to figure out which "Package" i need and the links on the bottom of the page dont work when i click them
Thanks in advance
-Aline
At first you have not to be S-OFF in order to flash a rom.
Your rom will get installed just fine. You just need to flash the kernel of your rom manually through fastboot using the command fastboot flash boot boot.img.
What exactly do you mean by telling "so i flashed it back"?
Did you relocked your bootloader with fastboot oem lock and you flashed an RUU?
You said you are just rooted. If my theory was right you probably unlocked your bootloader again by flashing the unlock.bin and a cwm recovery and then you had to use a (Superuser , SuperSU zip).
The first time you unlocked your device was you using the same computer with windows 8?
If yes this is a problem.Check your device manager for unrecognised devices. Can you see the device?
Check this out.You can also check this.
(You can try with win7 or a linux destribution instead.)
Are you still able to boot into bootloader (hboot) using (Power)+(Vol-) Buttons?
If you have enabled usb-debugging and a working adb shell despite you are in a bootloop you can try:
Code:
adb shell
su ------>(If you don't see # instead of $)
reboot oem-78 -------> To get in RUU mode
or
reboot bootloader -------->(To reboot into hboot)
* reboot recovery could bring you to recovery *
If you can get into hboot or RUU mode give the command fastboot getvar all and copy-paste what it prints.
I know it was possible to flash with S-on,
thats what i tried and it failed (manually flashed the boot.img resulted in a bootloop)
so i flashed back to the "stock" rom.
resulting in a "normal" rooted device
since i've replaced my recovery and got root access
it never has been oem locked again.(still isnt)
i cant get into my bootloader/ruu mode. nor start up.
when i plug it into my computer (windows 8) it makes the sound as it does when you connect a device.
but in device manager it shows nothing, not even a yellow ! as it normally would if it can recognize a device.

As you have not access to bootloader but your device is still seems to get connected i think you can only try HTC Unbricking Project. If the brickdetect.sh is not working you can try a different linux destribution.
