weather, you need GPS on? - Samsung Gear 2

Hi guys,
Just making sure you actually need to turn on gps all the time to be able to refresh weather forecast on the watch? I hope everyone understands the question... thanks

Yes, you need to enable gps for the stock weather app on the gear.
When you also use the stock weather widget on your samsung device, gear and phone harmonising best in case of weather sync.

Is there any weather app like this?

Hi,
Do you know any weather app that does not have running service?
Yes, weather forecast app that can pull data "manually" ...
No need periodic / interval update ...
Widget is not necessary either ...
Moved to Q&A BW, Fancy widget, and even the default news and weather app has this I believe
Most have these "features" and I don't really like that either. I've noticed that most of them will let you change the frequency that they pull info. Some down to 12 hours.
Fancy widget has lots of refresh options. One of them being to only refresh weather manually.
Thanks for all the suggestions. At the end, I ended up with (again) Beautiful Widget 1x1 (I already bought this when I use HTC Desire).
The reason that I want to find this kind of weather app, because I want to limit the number of running (background) services.
So, I replaced the Beautiful Widget Home widget with "simiClock" because it is simple, elegant and uses black background (save battery life).
simiClock has weather info as well ... But it does not have forecast.
That's why I was looking for weather app which can be activated (launched) when I press the simiClock weather.
But, it seems I cannot find one ... The one with update/interval can be controlled (I am not weather obsessive guy, so manual update is the best for me).
At the end, I am back with Beautiful widget weather 1x1 ... until I found a nice weather forecast app to launch from simiClock
I purchased the Weatherbug Elite. It has the options to turn off the background processing and only grab weather data when you run the app.
it's unfortunate, but i'm running into the same situation
i want to disable the back ground processing of the weather app that i like, but the app doesn't have such a feature/option
the app is supplied directly from The Weather Network, and it's very accurate, all the other apps that i've tried before are not so great
Try WeatherPro, best weather app imo
try Fancy widget... you'll love it! great app
Moxier World is by far the best I've found.
It updates either automatically or manually.
It also shows local time and weather in as many world locations as you need. It has 5 days forecast for each.

it has a background process
yes, it is nice, it's what i'm using
Try this out. It has an option to set update interval (or disable update entirely)

Lock screen location (AccuWeather.com) is wrong

When I turn my phone on, the lock screen default weather location is wrong and it uses AccuWeather.com you can see.
But, when I unlock the phone and go into my weather widget, it is fine. I use HD Widgets and set it to use WeatherBug.
How can I correct the lock screen weather to report my proper location?
I don't believe there is a way to adjust the location on the lockscreen weather. I have the same issue and so I stopped using the Touchwiz weather widget. It kept telling me I was in the "poor part of town" and well, that just wasn't going to work for a snob like me.
Either AccuWeather has incorrect info or your GPS isn't locking in quick enough for when the app checks for location. I suspect it may be the second, as from my experience, sometimes it would be spot on but most of the time wrong. Once I started using widgets that don't use AccuWeather, I noticed I hadn't had any problems though.

I couldn't find a way, so I wonder if there is a ro0t method? Maybe to tell the system to NOT use AccuWeather.com (I have had issues with them in the past in other widgets).
I don't run GPS unless needed. HD widgets finds me fine without GPS but this lock screen default weather app cannot.
I have 2 GS3's both rooted running cleanrom 2.1. One has the correct weather on the lock screen the other does not. I'm thinking more of a hardware problem due to these phones being set up the same.

not sure how hardware could interfere with weather info. Especially when I have no other issues so likely a hardware issue would manifest in some other area - something bigger then this 1 thing.
I am sure root could fix this if you could alter the file used to run that lock screen weather and tell it to use WeatherBug. Just not sure what file that is.
Did you try going to setting/security/lock screen and clicking on weather? Mine was defaulted to never update location so I set it to every hour

Yes, mine has always been set to 1 hour. The issue is not it updating weather, the issue is it saying I am not where I am at. It is about 40 miles off in a totally different town.

Out of curiousity, when you open Maps, does it give you the correct location?
On my phone, while in the house, it always puts me about three blocks away and then about two - four seconds later, gets me spot on. I assumed it was that delay that was affecting the Touchwiz weather widgets. The few times the stock weather features got my location right I happened to be in different rooms of my house or outside. The SG3 GPS seems to have some issues indoors.
I have noticed that every other weather widget I use displays the correct city right away for me. I switched to using FancyWidget Pro on my homescreen today and I noticed it uses Accuweather and was still correct, but that uses geolocation instead of GPS. I've also had no issues with One More Clock Widget or Simi Clock.
Oddly, aWeather and the stock weather widget and the lockscreen are the ones that give me false locations.
I haven't tried it yet, but I read something where some people were having luck clearning the cache on maps and the weather widget then making sure "verizon location services" isn't checked and it was correcting some location issues. Might be worth a shot.
All I know is I set up mine and the wife's phones the exact same way from a full wipe and hers always gets the weather location wrong for some reason. That's why I believe some hardware might be sub par. I'm at a loss as with this.

I have a similiar thing going on with my Galaxy Tab 10.1. I've done a hard reset back to stock and it will be fine and always have the same city one time, then if I do a hard reset again at another time, it won't get the right city.
I think their software needs some fine tuning.

Maps is perfect for me.
Right now I'm in a different town & the lock screen once again shows me 1 town off. Close but wrong.
HD Widgets... perfect
anyone know which system file controls the use of AccuWeather.com as the lock screen weather company of choice?
anyone?

I too would like to know this, once we know this and a few other pieces of information there might be a chance we could tinker and change the lockscreen weather to use weatherbug or something similar. I bought the 25ยข HD Widgets app today just because it uses weatherbug. And that's the only app that will pull up a weather monitor in my town, aside from WeatherChannel and the local news app, both of which are terrible.
Maddening GPS issues!!
Having similar problem here - but not limited to lockscreen weather. I use the Simi clock+weather widget on my homescreen and though I live in Atlanta it shows me as being in Creedmoor, NC (which I gather is near Raleigh). Also, Foursquare shows me being in Creedmoor on its map, but the check-in locations are in Atlanta and show accurate distances from where I am. Maps works fine and shows my location correctly (more or less). Very frustrating problem. Is it hardware related or software? This all started when I was not having any luck getting a GPS lock and tried various fixes. The lock is there now but the location on some apps is way off.
Just purchased HD widgets, I'll have to check this out.
Guys, those that are having lockscreen weather issues, do you use the default weather widget on your homescreen? The one with clock and weather. I found that if I don't use the weather widget on the home screen then the lockscreen does not update and shows inaccurate info. You have to use it for the lockscreen to work.
I discovered this when I was using beautiful widgets and the lockscreen stopped updating. They both use accuweather but for some reason the widget needs to be active.
Hope this helps some!

On my homescreen I use HD widgets. I have zero intentions of using the stock weather/clock widget just to make the lockscreen weather/location correct. Amazing what we can do to tweak the OS, and yet this cannot be tweaked in a file.
accuweather is the culprit as when I use that in HD widgets it screw up my location, use weatherbug and it is perfect.
EDIT: wait.. I see no "default" system installed weather widget... my only weather widgets are my after-market HD and Beautiful widgets, no such "default weather widget"
HD Widgets gets the correct location for me. The default one from TouchWiz is off by a good distance.

Agreed BUT we are not talking about widgets, we are talking about the fact the lock screen weather is off and it is off as it uses accuweather and you don't seem to have any choice in the matter to pick a different service for the lock screen weather.

I meant the default clock/weather widget. I don't like it cause if the grass and sky. Doesn't match with my theme.

Personalize locksreen

Hi,
Is there any way to personalize the lockscreen (withou installing a new lockscreen app)?
I'm having issues with the meteorology app, beacuse it is always requesting GPS.
Or is there a way to stop the meteorology app from using GPS and just use a city choose by me?
I don't want it accessing the GPS all the time. I've already took it away from the homescreen but I haven't found a way to take it from the lockscreen.
Question 1, no not without installing another launcher. The icons on the LockScreen are the ones on the Dock.
Question 2, I would check in the Meterology App Settings, something along the lines of Location, Default home or something like that. Hard to tell when no one knows exactly which app you are referring to. Most likely look in Settings.
Hi,
Thanks for the answer and sorry for not being explicit.
I was talking about the weather app that comes with the phone.
If I add a new widget from that app to the homescreen I can choose a specific city but the widget on the lockscreen keeps updating using GPS.
If i use another weather app on the homescreen, the one on the lockscreen will not change and it will still be the one that came with the phone.

Basically the same applies. Go into Weather app, Menu(3 dots), Settings and unclick Auto detect my location.
It was the first thing I did!

How to disable lockscreen weather / upcoming events on Android P lockscreen?

Does anyone know how to disable the new weather and upcoming events on the new Android P lockscreen? I don't like it, and I don't like that it somehow constantly has location services on to update the weather, as it seems to follow me around. I don't like having anything doing location based stuff without my permission. And I don't need the upcoming events notification either.
I honestly really don't like the direction Google is taking with Android. It's becoming a little more like Apple, where Google dictates what's best for you and you have less control over it. The whole point of Android is to give the user a lot of control. Otherwise I would've bought an iPhone years ago.
I actually think I figured it out. I disabled location and calendar access for Pixel launcher (I don't use it anyway, I use Nova), as well as for another system app named Actions Services (removed all permissions for that). I now no longer have weather and calendar stuff on my lockscreen.
Thank you for that info, now if I can somehow remove or at least default location to keep weather icon temp invalid for device location on setup. I use nova too for double tap to lock, without a kernel change.
Ehh, my weather info is back on the lockscreen, but I'm not getting the upcoming calendar events anymore. Not sure what's driving the weather stuff.
