There is an Xposed module for that.
I haven't tried it yet on the S4 and the download site is down ATM.
You can also try the MoDaCo Toolkit, that has that module in it too
I'm interested. It was very useful in my Galaxy S3.

Thanks. I downloaded and installed MoDoCo toolkit Pro. Clickec to activate the NFC. But nothing happens.. Even it did not ask me for root access... maybe does not work on i9505? Anyone tried it? here is the .apk file https://www.dropbox.com/s/a868pkg3hcy76nc/com.modaco.toolkit.apk

Could be, this is from the MoDoCo change log:
Note that the NFC on screen off functionality is tested against AOSP and may not work if your device manufacturer has fritzed with the NFC code a lot.

The module is loaded at boot, so no root access is being asked for that. The Xposed installer will need root access though.
Also Xposed requires a specific order in how to install thing.
First install Xposed installer, than install/update from the Xposed installer and reboot.
Then install the module, MoDoCo in this case, activate it in Xposed and reboot again.

I can confirm that it works. I installed the xposed framework, then I installed the modaco toolkit. I then enabled the NFC screen off module in the modaco toolkit; then I enabled the module in the xposed framework and rebooted the phone. Works like a charm!

An alternative to Modaco would be nottach's xposed module for the att gs4. I'm using it on my t-mobile stock rooted galaxy s4 and screen off nfc works just fine, as well as several other features. Here's the thread, detailed install instructions are in it as well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2285074

Hi there, I'm on Omega v11 - ZHUDMH6 with Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505 . I wonder if your older version for screen off would work?
is there also a mod for the Galaxy S4 mini (i9195).
I want to use the nfc in standby!

Team,
I have been searching for an app that will allow me to open an app (Note Anytime), from the lock screen. I have researched may apps that apparently can do this but I haven't found one that is compatible with my XZT.
So, has anyone found such an app that works with this kit?
Thanks

Install Xposed Framework and then install Gravity Box. It has what you want. Your XTZ should be rooted.

Thanks for the tip - but I cannot root the XTZ or I will lose SkyGo! I need an un-rooted solution.

Does anyone know how to activate wifi Hotspot? I mean without paying sprint big money for a small amount of data usage. I purchased unlimited data for just this purpose.

I'd wait for the hot spot flash file so you can use the native hotspot app built in like the s4

You also have to edit your SQL. Everything is explained and easy.

"and have the Xposed framework installed"
Sorry, I'm not familiar with Xposed framework.
Xposed framework is cited as Must Have.
Does the Sprint GS5 have Xposed framework installed?
thanx in advance...
No. Xposed framework is an add on for root users. It let's you install other mods. To get xposed framework, download the xposed installer from here:
http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer
Then install the apk, open it and install xposed. It will tell you to reboot. Once you reboot, open it and go to downloads. Search for tether and you'll see the tether app. Also try out Gravity Box, Wanam xposed, they are modules, basically let's you change everything about your phone.

OK, so I followed those steps and it look s like its gonna work but then after a minute I get the notification that I am "Not subscribed to the hotspot service..."
I opened the SQL file and the value of tether_dun_required is back to 1. I tried changing it to zero, rebooting, and trying again but it doesn't work. Something keeps changing the SQL value back to 1.
Any other ideas? Does someone actually have it working this way using the native HotSpot in settings?
I don't have an Android phone any longer, switched to a Windows 8 phone just for a change of pace.
Don't know if Sprint (or Samsung) changed anything as far as the HotSpot goes on the S5.
I do know that it's much easier to do the mod on a DEodexed rom. On an odexed rom, you must first deodex the services.jar and services.odex, do the mod and then reodex the file. The method I used for reodexing required having an actual phone.
For deodexing the rom, I used Dxisda's kitchen which only runs on Linux. Unfortunately, I removed my Linux setup to recover the partition space on my hard drive. It's a chore to get that set back up, and don't plan on doing it. I'm sure someone will get a deodexed stock rom out there fairly soon, they always have in the past.
I am kind of curious if the hotspot mod will still work though and I DO still have the tools installed to deodex the services jar. If someone will send me the services.jar and services.odex from there phone, I'll take a look.
Unfortunately, what you will end up with is a deodexed services.jar that won't work unless you have a deodexed rom to run it on.

Ever since I have installed Xposed Framework, S-Health comes up with the error "Unfortunately, S Health has stopped." I have tried to changing ro.securestorage.support=false and deleting the S Health cache/data. Nothing has worked.
I am running a deodexed stock rooted 4.4.2 NE5 rom. Any help is appreciated!
Uninstall Xposed, reboot, force stop shealth and then clear cache, reboot and try again?
I have never gotten Shealth to work while Xposed is installed, even if I change the secure value.

Search for "Wanam Xposed" and install it in Xposed mod - I think it has an option to enable the "private" (or secure folder) I forget which affects S-health...
IMPORTANT!!!: Make sure you backup your feature.xml file (in the system/csc folder) - When you change anything in Wanam Xposed mod, it will completely re-make your feature.xml, and I had to manually edit mine a few times to get my settings back to the way I wanted. This is a personal warning from me to you! If you can edit your .xml file yourself, and if you're sure you know what you're doing, you'll have no problems.
I know I read something that S-Health has to do with not running because of the private folder (or system folder/partition or whatever it is...)
Google around if Wanam Mod doesn't fix it and do some research you'll find more info about it.

Had this problem. What I did was odin stock/factory reset. Rooted with towelroot(on 4.4.2) before I did anything with s health OR PRIVATE MODE(MOST IMPORTANT THING, DO NOT OPEN FINGERPRINT, S HEALTH, OR PRIVATE MODE). installed xposed and the module xsecure (samething is in wanam, they are both made by wanam, xsecure is meant if you don't want wanam). And then you can open private mode and set it up, and samething with s health after xposed is installed with xsecure or wanam. Also disabling knox with superSU doesn't seem to matter at all. As long you install xposed before you open any of those apps it should work.
