Issues installing ROMs - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey out there I'm having issues installing ROMs. I have successfully installed 1 which was Mokee. All others seem to get stuck at boot ?? I've flashed many ROMs with HTC one V & Lg Nitro HD before. I've never had this problem before what am I missing if anything ?? Using latest Cwm. Have used philztouch also but no boot. Even tried kernels as well. Any help ??

First just to check, you are formatting selecting wipe data and wipe cache. Sorry if this seems obvious but some people don't

Try using the latest twrp .. My phone won't boot roms with with cwm but with twrp it can

Could have been an app you installed preventing it from booting properly, try to make a nandroid of your current rom then restore back to your original rom and let us know if it boots. If it does, it's most likely something on your rom. If it still doesn't boot that's more of a hardware issue.
Did you properly wipe, did you install a rom, you have to tell more information then just saying it wont boot could be anything why it wont boot answer what you did before you got to the point you are in now and then we can help.

You might want to tell people what the issue was and how you fixed it. Simply saying, "it's fixed," doesn't help people.

[Q] How can I boot multiple roms?

Hi, I want to know how to boot more than one rom using Boot Manager... i've tried to do it numerous times but each time I just get frozen on my carrier logo on reboot. What partitions do i need setup? I'm a bit of a noob so if it's really complicated can you simplify it. Thanks in advance.
Dude, I made a thread on this - did you need to make another one?
I've had no luck either... Tried it on about 5 different ROMs, but never works! Have you tried formatting your memory card?

Are you sure?
Boot manager app has given official support for our device. And I have seen proof of it working - on youtube on a Desire S booting CM7 & MIUI.
Also bootmanager cleverly overrights the kernel with the new boot.IMG each time you flash.

Well the app allows you to change the boot.img before you boot into a different ROM. So it should still work

Today I got it to work with Virtuous Infinity + ViperSaga and now using Virtuous + CM10.
I had to S-OFF with ENG HBOOT! Setup 2 Rom's, make a Nandroid and then choose in Boot Manager Install Zip -> Restore Nandroid, not install from Zip.
Works like charm for me. (=

[Q] I destroyed my phone?

Well after a lot of reading and watching videos(apparently not enough),i seem to have gotten myself into something i am not sure i can get out of.I followed all the steps to install TWRP on my SGH-I727 AT&T Skyrocket using Straight Talk. That went ok,i got it installed, booted into it and forgot to backup my data first!I did a wipe first.... no idea why
I had the CM-11-20140106-nightly skyrocket.zip file on my external sd card.I get to the sd card and see the zip file, select it,I clicked install and the screen says checking for MD5 file...Skipping MD5 check no MD5 File found, then FAILED.
I also put gapps on sd card and it installs that fine.
So now when i try to reboot it just goes to the twrp screen and i can't get any further.Of course i can't restore because i didnt backup...
i was running 4.1.2 jb,am i totally screwed or what?I tried to reinstall with kies but it won't connect to phone now

Messing around,i got a notice that SU wasn't installed from twrp,so i said yes install. It did and phone came back up.I clicked the SU app and went through the update steps.Everything seems to be working ok,i suspect i just rooted my phone! Lol I might go ahead and boot back into twrp,do a backup and see if i can install the CM again, think i will be okay?
Yea you just rooted it, but cm will install if you use cwm

Gotcha,didn't even notice the button.
Had lots of fun yesterday plying with my phone.I got bold and installed CM 11 kit kat 4.4 and gapps.Gapps seems to have flaked out as i got all kinds of stopped working errors.Did a wipe and reinstalled CM 11.Still trying to find a good working version of gapps.I might drop down to CM 10.2 because it is stable and see if i can get a gapp version to work with that.
In the end,i haven't bricked my phone yet and i am doing a lot of reading and learning a lot,all good

do some more reading.
theres only one specfic gapps version that will work with cm11, its in their installation/instructions page.
hard bricking will happen if you flash something not meant for our phones, need it jtaged to fix it.
soft bricking will happen if you dont folllow devs instructions but is easily recoverable

Superboot also didn't work for me.
Custom recovery like cwm and then flashing supersu is better in my opinion.

Firstly great choice leaving that other OS behind that's the best decision you have made.
Secondly the moto g is another great decision as its an amazing phone..
Yes root it, install xposed framework and gravitybox and customize your heart out.
I followed the guide over at modaco forums to root mine:
http://www.modaco.com/forum/751-motorola-moto-g/
There are two methods to root either work fine.

Ok I think the phone is fine, in apps I now have SuperSU.
Ok I now get a warning when I start the phone, so bootloader is unlocked, and I have superSU installed in apps, whats the next step, sorry for the newbie questions.

IMHO, you should use your phone without making those hacks for a while. You need root if you want to change something really specific on your phone or want to run some really specific apps. The vast majority of people doesn't need any of those.
That said, since you already rooted your phone, you might want to try using Xposed Framework (with gravitybox), Greenify and Titanium Backup. Search for those to see if that is something you might think is useful.

Ok just in case I mess something up along the way how do I do a factory reset?
I would read on xda a good bit before attempting to do anything as it's not for the faint hearted but as soon as you have enough knowledge you'll be fine.
I'm the sort of person who likes to root but even I haven't gotten around to unlocking the bootloader on the Moto G yet and I have it a month now, I only use it as a second phone after my HTC One, plus I only use a tablet and not a PC /Laptop so you can't do anything like this on a tablet which frankly I find bizzare given more people use tablets now then desktop computers and laptops but anyway read, read and read more and you'll be fine

No wifi or mobile data???

My phone was working fine last night. It went dead, threw it on the charger, turned it on this morning and now I get no data. Wifi connects and so does 3g & 4g, but there is no data coming in or going out. Phone and text are working. I also just noticed that my comma disappeared from the stock keyboard. Any ideas? The only thing I can think of is that I was trying to disable the volume warning by installing the app "wanam kit" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ma.wanam.wanamkit&hl=en
I've rebooted several times since installing wanam kit, everything was fine all day yesterday.
I'm rooted on the stock ROM, nothing else.
Thanks,
-Mike
All you need to do is try uninstalling the wanam kit and reboot ! if it works good and fine if not roll back to official stock Rom there it'll fix everything for you

Yes, it's been rooted for several months now. Don't remember which method I used.
As of my experience all you need to do is flashing the stock Rom or try flashing the custom Rom as you're already rooted anyhow we've got many stable ports for s5.

Hmmm, well re-formatting my phone didn't fix the problem. Gonna try a different ROM.
Looks like I'm going to flash the stock rom & bootloader and see what happens. If it's still whopper-jawed, I guess it will be ready to take it to a sprint service store for the warranty . Ugh.
