I'm looking for a dual sim phone which supports LTE, but with as close to stock AOSP as possible and also with reasonably hi specs.
I know I could go down the S5 or HTC M8 route and I guess they are options.
I have however been looking at some of the Chinese manufacturers which are presently offering some very good speced dual sim LTE phones, namely the Honor 6, Elephone P3000s and the Nubia Z7 mini. My biggest issue with these though is rom support and whether they contain GAPPS (and also how rootable they are).
Reading around it seems that the Nubia Z7 mini might be the best supported in terms of Rom (both officially and unofficially).
I am seriously tempted by the Elephone P3000s (when it comes in stock) mainly because of the price as well.
Any other thoughts, or options I'm missing out on?
Hi, I'm considering to purchase a Note 12.2, but I am hesitant due to the widespread complaints of a blue screen issue. Do all variants of the Note 12.2 have this problem? Can someone tell me the model code (SM-900, SM-905v, etc.) that I should consider to avoid that issue?
Thank you

I bought the 950V last year in May (or March....it was a M month)......and never had the Blue Screen issue. I've read complaints about people with the 907 (AT&T) version.
Somehow I got feeling that @ShadowLea might have good answer to this...
I shall certainly attempt to provide one.
The Blue Screen issue affects mainly the USA and Exynos variants of the NotePro. So that's the P907A (AT&T), P900 (WiFi) and the P901 (3G).
It seems to be a problem with the motherboards of those specific models. The P905 and P905V appear to be almost completely unaffected, safe a few unlucky sods who seem to have gotten a bad model.
Interestingly I can't seem to find a conclusive answer on which CPU the P907A uses. Even Samsung itself is confused... The description on Samsung's official page says "all powered by the 1.9 Ghz Samsung Exynos® Octa processor.", and slightly lower under Specs it says "Processor Speed, Type: Qualcomm MSM8974 2.3GHz Quad-Core". :silly: (It's the Snapdragon, because it has a 4G chip, which the Exynos does not. But that's not the point.)
All variants can potentially have it. Folk on here with 900, 905 and 907 have all had it. Also plenty of people with those models that haven't.
Thank you all for your replies, this has been really helpful. My question is answered. Thank you
Hello, I may be interested in getting the SM-905 (not the SM-905v) since it doesn't have the blue screen issue and it can be rooted. But where can I find one? When I search for SM-905 the Verizon SM-905V keeps showing up.
At least one person here (schurgatzi) has had a 905 blue screen.

The blue screen issue doesn't have in Wifi version SM-P900 ( Note Pro) or SM-T900 ( Tab Pro ) but Flickering Screen, quick discharge are common problems in the 12.2 Samsung tablets, regardless version, 3G or Wifi.

Thank you for your reply. I guess then the Note 12.2 is not for me. This would be a significant investment, so quality performance is important for me. I will stick with my old Note 10.1 which has been working great (though I really wanted a bigger screen).

The Note Pro or Tab Pro widespread problem of flickering actually an easy fix. The battery connector just need to re solder to secure its connection, then it's working fine.
The fix only needs under 5 minutes for those who know how to solder or take it to professionals to get it done.
Looking to upgrade from my OnePlus One. Currently considering the Note 8 or an S8+ (although wanting to wait and see what happens with the Pixel XL 2, Mi Mix 2, and maybe even the iPhone 8 (or X, whatever it'll be called)).
I played with the Note 8 in a shop and it was fine, but as I'd like to save some cash am considering the 128gb/6gb ram version of the S8+. Note 8 is about $1600 NZ (although most pre-orders come with an 128gb or 256gb microSD card, wireless charger and sometimes additional things like a speaker or powerbank) where as I can find an S8+ 128gb/6gb version for $1144. My understanding is that the G9550 is either a China or Hong Kong version. Does that mean any issues with using Google apps or getting Google Play going? Would that also mean any issues with future OS updates?
Or should I pay even less and just go for a regular S8+ for around $1000 NZ? I'm a pretty basic phone user nowadays. Gmail, Google Maps, Chrome, Spotify , social apps and running the DJI Go 4 app for my Mavic.
Cheers for the feedback.

I have zero complaints with my S8+ 4GB Snapdragon version. 4GB is enough to make the phone fast. The Note 8 being a grand is absurd to me.
6Gb is amazing when you use many apps simultaneously. It's smooth and quick.
Have used S8 and 4gb isn't bad but 6gb is amazing.
If your not going to root the phone, so far I think the G9550 is the best model. Dual Sim, 128gb storage, 6gb ram, more coverage on cell bands than all the others it seems. I have travelled all over US and EU and with my US T-Mobile account I have internet everywhere. Even in the US I have better coverage than I had with my US based Samsung S7 which I attribute to the large list of supported radio bands.
I am not a pro at this, so I am open to someone correcting any of my assumptions.
I feel it is downgrade more than upgrade
Weird how some regions it’s 8GB of ram. 12GB here.
Is ram that big of a deal? Isn’t 8GB enough?
In germany we get the exynos one... Baddest cpu ever...

How much ram do you have in Germany ?
Exynos 12gb/256gb for Europe or 12gb/512gb with support dual sim
Think we have the 8gb ram Version... But battery life is **** with the exynos also throttling so much. We have hot weather in germany now and my friends s20+ is running hot without gaming... He tried factory reset and swapping the device nothing helps.
Are you sure you're not looking at the regular Note 20? The Note 20 Ultra in the US and Europe shows 12 GB RAM.
Yes , it is note 20 ultrs
LTE models of Note 20 Ultra comes with 8gb ram only , it is available in regions that don't sell 5g models like Egypt
Where have you seen the Note 20 Ultra with only 8Gb RAM? I think you have misread this somewhere!
Only the Regular Note 20 has 8Gb.
Would be interesting if you could show a link to what you've found.
EDIT: Ah you are in Egypt. That still sucks, I hope you get it cheaper though?

Samsung sell it in Egypt for about 1320 $ 256 8gb ram
This really irritates me. Bad enough that it’s not snapdragon. But knocking off 4gb too. And no 5G. Yet the same price
E9825 12/256 to SD865+ 12/256 is just fine for me lol
Honestly if I had the Note 10 + I would not be upgrading. Its just not enough of a leap in my opinion. Especially so with the hampered device in your area.

Yeah, if you look on Samsung's site at the Spec Sheet, the Ultra 5G models have 12GB, but Ultra LTE Models only have 8GB. Not sure why, but it's there on their site. Well, ONLY the Ultra 5G models have 12GB, the rest are stuck at 8.
Thankfully, I'm getting a 12GB version.

I played with the N20 Ultra and I can't see a reason to upgrade. Even the 120hz comes on when it wants and you cant use the highest resolution with the 120hz. I will wait until next year when they get the bugs out. And whatever you do.. DON'T BUY THE NOTE 20. Doesn't make sense to spend $1000 on 1080 screen with no SD card..just a waste.
currently have an unlocked redmi note 9 pro in usa on ATT.
love it.,
problem is ma bell claims this is a 3g device (as not purchased from them), and therefore I cannot
enable
a) wifi calling
b) any service on this thing
since my apartment is 4g/5g
is this 6gb ram/256 gb storage worth going slightly backwards on camera and processor?
current redmi 6gb/128gb and 64mb camera.
your thoughts?
thanks in advance
update. pulled trigger and bought it. hope I can root it easily
2.5 month review of moto 5G stylus
ehh. Camera is worse then my redmi.
everything else is ok.
I haven't (had time) rooted yet..
nice with the larger amt of ram.
Only had my T-Mobile 4/128 a dew days. But I am ompressed with what you get with a low price phomne. 5,000ma battery is so nice.
