[Q] Phone buying advice for my friend - General Topics

Hi. My friend asked me for an advice for his next phone, since his HTC Evo 3D just broke. He would like a good (possibly Android) phone, but he cannot spend more then 250-300€ (let's say about 300$)... Keep in mind that I'm talking about unlocked phones only. I don't know which phones are both pretty good and such inexpensive. Any ideas? Thank you.

Moto G - $179, Nexus 5 - $350. I'd pay the extra $s and go for the N5 but the moto g is a very nice phone. Huge upgrade from the Evo.

[Q] Is the samsung galaxy sIII worth more to you?

Hello I was wondering what you guys think I should do. Sams club has the one x for $99 w/ two year contract and amazon has the galaxy sIII for 199. Is the sIII worth that extra 100 bucks? I am just afraid of the multitasking issues driving me insane unless people here make it out to be worse than it is. Any input would be great! Thanks!

try reading reviews of the devices on other sites like the verge or android central or someplace like that..
Its pointless to ask other people such a question. Its completely subjective, and what is worth $100 to me may not be to you. Sounds like you know what the differences are, so are the differences worth $100 to you? Is it really that hard for people to make their own decisions about a freaking phone?
I'm with gunnyman, and all these threads about whether one should return the One X for a GS3, which one is better, which one should you buy, etc. are getting quite tiresome.
Even if you think its a legit question, you should have posted it in an existing thread, since there are already quite a few. We certainly don't need more threads on this topic.
This is not a Samsung forum nor a Galaxy S III forum... kindly ask your questions there.

[Q] UK phone recommendation please

Hello,
I've had my fun with the old Blade, then G300, then Desire S, then Desire HD and last January I purchased a One X+ from Vodafone.
Unfortunately this last purchase was of poor planning. Within weeks of buying this "latest" phone HTC decided the phone was old hat and out comes the M7 (One). I was really miffed about this, Vodafone dropped the phone from their sales within weeks of launching it too. Bit shi**y of HTC if you ask me but that's life I guess and the world of mobile manufacturers.
The phone is unlocked and rooted and there is a limited amount of dev work going on for this phone on xda (those few do a great job), but the phone has pretty much come to the end. Sense 5 has filtered out for the phone slowly, but I can't see HTC supporting it any longer. I really expected to enjoy this phone more than a few months!!!
I might sell it, it seems the resale value is still pretty good and I could easily purchase a Nexus 4 or other dev friendly phone and still have some change left over.
That being said, can anyone recommend a phone for £100 or under, decent size screen, decent specs and above all is dev friendly (plenty roms, active community, easily unlocked/rooted)?
I'm in the UK and use the GiffGaff/O2 network, so it would need to be unlocked/network free. Apologies if this is posted in the wrong forum. I was unsure where else to ask.
Thanks.
Have a look at the xperia m just got one and very happy with it good specs for the price, mine came in at 200 euro off contract.

[Q] Slightly OT - happy to be redirected

I'm quite happy with my SGS4G. My wife is as well, but well... she has dropped hers a few more times than she ought to have and it's starting to act funny. (Mine is also starting to act funny, but I think a new battery would be helpful.)
We're both running VB; but we got the text message from T-Mobile that we're eligible for new phones. Whatever that means.
It's worth looking into anyway... suggestions for a new phone?
Requirements:
* Wifi calling (travel a lot)
* Decent developer community
* Preferrably a low price. (Experiences with swappa.com welcome. Never tried that before.)
Thanks in advance!

Friendly Advice....get a list of phones available for your carrier and go to those forums to see how people feel about those phones
The obvious answer is the New Nexus 5. It will be the most supported phone for atleast two years. Or if they have the Nexus 4 in stock pick it up. I dont suggest anything that is not a Nexus device. That said the Moto X looks nice Im sure @bhundven can offer opinions on it.

Sounds like the one might be worth looking into also.

The moto x is a great phone! It is the only android device that I have that is not unlocked or rooted. But it is that way because I derped on researching and didn't know the at&t version was locked and not unlockable.
At $349 for the 16G and $399 for the 32G, the Nexus 5 brings more value for the dollor... verses $649 for the unlockable developer edition of the Moto X.
The motorola-google merger is still young and I've noticed manufacturing issues with mine, and there are long threads in the moto x subforum about defects that others have noticed with the chassis.
Personally, I'm keeping my moto x in case someone makes an unlocked bootloader for the AT&T version, but my nexus 5 (white 32G) is on order.
A lot of people like the HTC One and the Galaxy S 4 (available on the play store, with unlockable bootloaders).
I think as @kennyglass123 said, it all comes down to personal preference and reading the forums to find out what other users think of the device. Research is your friend; learn from my mistakes

Good to see you finally getting on the Nexus bandwagon lol. I might be picking up the N5 but I have to find a good phone for my kid. Not going to give her the N4 that glass back will not make it a week. That is the only downfall to the N4 .

[Q] Buy it now or wait?

Hey guys,
Just like all of us I want this phone, I haven´t got an invite yet but im patient and im sure we will all have recieved one by the end of the month.
The question I have though is if I should buy this phone now or wait for future flag ships?
I currently have the LG Optimus G, its not the newest phone but it doesnt lag and does most of the things I want it to, the main reason why I want to sell it is because I still get money for it now but in a year I wont. (Also the short battery life and bad camera - debatable)
My plan was to sell the Optimus G (on ebay they go for around 150-200€) and then buy the One with that money basically so I would have a brand new smartphone for "100€"
Is it worth it though? The One has killer specs and even though I prefer the LG3, the price blows it out of the water but with 4k screens coming etc, is it maybe worth it to stick with my Optimus G and wait until next year for some new releases?
I hope someone can help me make my decission.
Thanks guys!
Only you can make this decision, take time to read and research and form this opinion on your own as other do not know what you desire, as a similar thread already exists http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1620179 - and as XDA is not a support site, this thread is closed.

If you want a really new one even if it doesn't have the best specs you can get the moto e, but if you want a really solid phone that isn't exactly supported by google but is capable of a ton for ~$100 then the galaxy nexus is a great phone and you can get them new for about that price unlocked.
note 2 verizon
Note 2 verizon can be found for $150 on ebay if you watch watch watch.
