Giving Sprint S3 SIM Card support. - General Questions and Answers

Hey guys, I am going to give my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710) SIM Card support and also replace the mid-frame with one that has cutouts for both a microSD card and a SIM card. I plan to use my Sprint phone with Ting. Think it’ll work?
This is the piece that I ordered for the SPH-L710 models:

In all honesty no, unfortunatley after reading a few threads and searching the internet it seems that although you can install a SIM tray their is no way to bypass the internal SIM. Most who try can't even get the phone to power on afterwards
Here was the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002515
He started but never finished, shame because an outcome would have been usefull
Anyway, Good luck and I hope you succeed

It was bought in Europe, the receipt says that much. I bought from a guy that said he bought at the airport and the store have gotten a few xooms that had the US version hardware, he then got an image dump from someone he knew in the states so that device now is Google Experience Certified. A fact that could back up part of the story is that i can only choose from 3-4 languages when factory resetting it, while devices sold in northern Europe usually has all languages to choose from.
I want to root it. Someone that i was surprised to see it was not since he talked about having flashed an image on it previously.
Someone has an idea from this screenshot.
Its a Xoom 32GB wifi only.

Upgrade is auto restored to account

Question, are we eligible for upgrade already? Yes we are. I checked my account today. Too bad Sprint doesn't have the Pixel by Google; only phone I'd get.

I haven't returned my note 7 and i do not have an upgrade on my account.
I have tried to return the phone but they deny it at the store. I bought it from sprint.com. i tried after the first recall and after the second. Sprint websites list the stores as a place I can take it to handle the recall.
I'm pretty fed up with this whole situation. I really just don't have the time to deal with it. I bought the phone from sprint this should be painless.
How did you het you're upgrade back on your account? I feel getting my upgrade after i trade the phone in or get refunded is the only way i will stay with sprint.

When the while recall fiasco started, I noticed that I was "eligible for an upgrade" on the website. That never went away even after I got my replacement. When the second recall was announced, I decided to go in and get the s7e. While talking to the manager as he made the exchange, I did ask him about the possibility of keeping the upgrade eligibility. However, he said that it was only active for the recall exchange and would disappear on this transaction. A few days later, I was on the account and saw that I was still eligible. Not only that, but they credited my account about $200 for the troubles and what I had paid onto the n7.

When do people expect to see the Nougat update?

I read within couple of months of November, so January.
If I know AT&T, it'll be months after the "official" Nougat update for the LG-V10. Better to just assume it won't come, then when (and if) it does it'll be a great surprise
I'd rather have an unlocked bootloader, but that doesn't seem to happen anytime soon either.
Still no way to get root?

I thought I saw one thread with a rooted TOT, but I am not expert in this.
What the best way to backup and restore ? ADB?
LG is supposed to get it to the carriers some time in February, and knowing at&t it could be an upwards of 4 months before its released to us, so id say between April and July 2017.

If you are on lollipop, you can root and use titanium backup. And if you are on Marshmallow or have no root, you can use Helium android and desktop app in order to backup and restore.

Out of curiosity, is the battery life better on the V20?
Also, is there a consensus on the best extended battery case for the v10?

This is a great battery / case. I have it and it works great. I would recommend a separate charger if you can because it seems the phone stops charging the battery when it hits 3,000 milliamps. So to fully charge the battery it seems better to use an external charger.

A big update from AT&T is rolling out right now. My phone is now optimizing, so we'll see what it is shortly. Anyone see it yet?
Yeah, I just got the notification. Didn't see the size though. Accidentally dismissed it. What is it?
Nope - still 6.0, with a security update.
...the update specifically states it's a carrier update
When hell freezes over! AT&T wants you to buy the V20, hopefully someone can port it to us.

How to reset to stock rom/recovery and lock bootloader [Verizon]

I have a Verizon Pixel XL that I was able to unlock with DePixel8 back in the day but it's really become just more of a hassle having it unlocked and constantly dealing with OTA updates and worrying about flashing TWRP or just the hassle of it all in general.. I'd rather just let my phone do it's own thing without having to mess with it and especially since I'll eventually get a yearly upgrade I wanna be able to trade it in and get a newer phone someday.
Can anyone give me step by step on what to do so I can get it back to stock and locked boot loader again.
I'm currently on Android Oreo 8.0.0... idk if this changes anything? I know TWRP isn't working 100% or so it seemed when I looked at the Oreo thread earlier.
Can I just download the factory stock image and run the flash-all.bat? or do I need to fastboot boot twrp.img and wipe the system n everything 1st? also can someone tell me which image is the original stock image??
I see 7.1.0 (NDE63V, Nov 2016)
but I also see 7.1.0 (Verizon, NDE63X, Nov 2016)
I'm guessing I use the Verizon one? but I remember somewhere someone saying to use the one with the V at the end so how do I know which one to use for stock image?
There are probably some folks around here that would feel inclined to ship you a stock Verizon Pixel XL plus a couple bucks if they had the opportunity they missed to depixel8. If it were just the regular Pixel, I'd be all over it. Stock pixel is fantastic and by far my favorite phone I've ever owned, but there is an itch I can't scratch with it being locked.

The Oreo update for the H918 (T-Mobile) came out a few weeks ago.
Yeah, forgive me, I've been keeping my eyes out for updates on the T-MOBILE update and I knew it was coming but hadn't seen anything. I haven't really been watching the forums where I would have seen the posts about it.

i bought my V20 (H910) when I was still with at&t. Will I get the update, or will I have to somehow do it manually? Does my phone care about the difference? Does TMobile?

AT&T only sends updates over the air, and only if you are a current customer on their network (yea, super d**ks).
If you want to update your phone, you will have to root it. You don't have to STAY rooted, you can flash a stock Oreo zip.
Of course, this wipes your phone as well...

That's a great, detailed answer, thanks.
I'm interested in doing that, a few apps, specifically Spotify has been working poorly since Oreo rolled out for the v20, and I'm not sure if it's related.
I'm not 100% up to speed with this higher level android tomfoolery, I've flashed a new kernel to a Nexus7 for a car install, but that's it. Could I ask an extra favor, for you to link me to a good how-to on getting my h910 running Oreo? Some of the other writeups seem to be different variations. I must use the att software, regardless of my current carrier, right?
Rooting is no longer a point and click affair.

Thanks, I had read that post, and before talking to you, I wasn't 100% sure that it applied to my phone being on T Mobile now.
After giving it a closer read, that sounds like the kind of thing I'd try if I didn't depend on my phone as heavily as I do, or if I had a spare handy. just a tad too much ambiguity and the stakes are too high for my current life situation today.
Thanks again though, you thoroughly and clearly answered my question.
