Hey Guys,
I am new here so please forgive any embarressing newness moments regarding my questions.
I noticed that GTab has at least 4 different Roms that are being actively developed in their own way (big thank you to the devs btw).
I also see there is a post already asking which rom people this is the best.
I dont know if its fair on the devs to say best or not but I was wondering if each rom was developed for a certain purpose in mind?
I mean is one built for better gaming while the other is for better web browsing etc??
Can anyone pls advise suitability of purpose?
I get my GTab soon as i just ordered it and will be changing the rom on it almost immediately. I'm just unsure which on to choose is all.

There is not that much difference between the roms. They are based from different source so they all look a little different. The best thing to do is install clockwork and check them all out and see what is best for you. Install one and run it for awhile then make a backup in clockwork and install another. If you don't like it you can then restore your backup and be back up in about 5 minutes.
I would personally wait on cm7 before installing as it has some weird quirks the others don't. I have nothing against cyanogenmod as I am running cm7 on my droid right now.

None of them is really better at any one thing than the other. It is mostly just user interface differences. TnT Lite is based off of the stock TnT that came on the tablet. Zpad is based off of the rom made for the Zpad. vegaN is based from the rom for the Advent Vega, and Cyanogenmod is based off of... Well, Cyanogenmod.
The GTab, and the Zpad are like brothers. Both made by Malata, and are almost the same thing. The Advent Vega uses similar hardware to us as well.
My personal favorite is vegaN but really only because I don't like the upper notification bar in TnT. Zpad is another one I like for the same reason.
For just starting out I would go with either TnTLite, or vegaN as they are the most popular, and most supported.
Can't really go wrong with any of them and I play with them all. Like said before I would stay away from the Cyanogenmod rom unless you are a techie. It works well, but it has a different way of mapping memory and some other differences that can get you into trouble.
Easiest to get answers to questions are TnTLite, or vegaN...
Thanks for the quick response guys!
I cant wait till my Gtab arrives!
Sup xda, my names Bilal and this is my first time posting here. I do have a question though but I've got a lot I want to talk to you guys about
I got my tmobile mytouch 3g about 4 days ago. On the first day my cousin had already told me about this site and how beneficial it would be to me real soon xD. The next day I had already begun looking up important things i needed to know to end up with a custom rom on my phone. I looked up the specifications to my phone (like checking the radio and SPL versions) I found out my phone was a 32B and had new SPL and Radio. I found out the Roms that would be compatible with my phone as well as the method to go about doing it. the next 2 days basically consisted of my going through over like 15-20 different methods over my phone (but all of them basically had the same routine). I mean, you have to root it then get a custom recovery than flash the custom rom. But this is simplified as I'm pretty sure i searched and found 3-4 different ways for the simplified root recovery rom steps. Anyways it was real frustrating since I failed many times on all 3 steps . Anyways with the new SPL Radio 32b Mytouch phone 2.2.1 (since i idiotically upgraded it to 2.2.1) just flashed cyanogenmod 6.1.0 about 30 minutes ago. Haha I'm so excited to see the possibilities.
I wanted to thank this whole site and the people from the unlockr because i searched a ton of guides and Google'd over 50 questions to figure out the process suited for me and even though it ended being extremely easy compared to the people who had to work hard to develop all the things involved in making Rom Manager, Clockworkmod and Armons Custom recoveries, and every easy step in the process that we take for granted. I didn't have a clue in programming scripting developing software or ROM's for anything before flashing my phone. After doing it I still don't have much of a clue even though I feel like I did learn a whole lot I know I'm way more interested in learning how things work.
You could have probably skipped this whole essay and went straight to the question though xD.
My question at this point was what exactly are all the possibilities (or some that I'm not aware of) that my phone has now that it has flashed cyanogenmod 6.1.0
One thing that I have definitely noticed and feel that alone, was worth the 4 days of tirelessly failing, is that my phone has become a lot faster, and I mean in everything that it does, from opening applications to loading videos on youtube. I know I could probably search this as well but I just wanted to advice directed towards me as far as what to do next? Ive been messing around with the themes (can only use ADW as far as I know) but was wonting to find a live unlock pattern screen? I found one on youtube and I'm 90 percent sure the guy had the exact same phone as me. Also any advice on details for upgrading the overall performance on my device would be great help.
Thanks guys glad to be here
Glad that you learned some stuff. Stay around here for a while and you'll learn alot more. Anyways, yes, there are many possibilities available for you. For one, I would advise updating to CyanogenMod 7. Just go here: http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/htc-slide and choose a category to suit you. NB: The "Experimental" build category is not as "dangerous" as it sound. These build are actually Release Candidates which mean they are almost (if not) good enough to be a Stable build. Since you're just beginning, you may just want to use a stable build for now. But later on, you may change your mind. There are also many apps you may want to try like: SetCPU (to make your device even faster than it is now and/or to save battery life, Titanium Backup, Rom Manager, etc. ADW is NOT the only launcher you can use. It just came as the main launcher for your rom. There are many other launchers like Launcher Pro, etc. For the "live lockscreen pattern, you could try Ripple Lock (Honeycomb Lockscreen) or the sense 3.0 lockscreen found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1190071 . Cheers!
I have been running PRIME2.11 pretty much since i rooted when razorclaw was released,i really really have liked it way beyond the stock rom and would really be fine with it, if i couldnt change it ever again Roach has done an outstanding job!
My first question is...Does anyone know if Prime is hardware rendered or not (i have searched including reading close to every post in the prime dev thread) I notice all the other ROMS i could find it mentioned in the rom description, and from my understanding stock HC uses software rendering which many say is the reason for the performance lag.
next question is does anyone think it helps from their experience.
Next ?, Roach is busy with bigger and better things i hear so i dnt htink hes going to update PRIME unless its imperative. The other ROMS have made the recent updates comforming to the recent asus update....As much as i love PRIME im wondering if i should check out REVOLVER or KRAKED is it worth risking a problem flashing my b80 with no nvflash to falll back on or wait for ICS.....(realistically id like to try em all and change all the time cuz i get bored easy im just worried that all it takes is one problem and i have a 500 dollar paperweight.
?....for those who have tried several of the roms whats your input on choice, if i were going to go to one rom from PRIME to wait for ics ,
And finally Provided i follow the proper steps flashing whatever, and i check hashes to verify downloads and im consistent and careful, is there anymore chances of a bricked device with b80 and beyond or is it just that if it does have problems theres no failsafe with NVFLASH. Is there any evidence to point that newer devices have had problems more frequently when flashing
thank s in advanced and i have exhaustively searched for information pertaining to these questions just wasnt satisfied with what i found
Can't help you with the rendering or multi ROM questions, but I can respond to if Prime 2.1.1 enhances my experience, and yes it does.
I spent a lot of time trying to solve my corporate VPN issue (IPSEC with group ID and password). Prime was the only ROM I could successfully utilize, with the VPNC widget.
Now when I travel, I only carry my Transformer, and use VM through VPN to access my corporate desktop. Never need to worry about syncing or losing files.
I have a lot of questions. I know the rules here and I already search different things like custom rom/kernel.but when I saw the busybox, terminal emulator, supercharge etc. I felt like my mind was going to explode. LOL!!
So now as a newbie, I dont know where to start, I can search for a specific stufff and follow the steps like having a custom roms/kernels. but I need some advise what should I do first. Like, do I need to have a custom rom/mod first and then do some enhancement later?
I already root my phone and I already made the back up using cm recovery.
offcourse Im still using stock rom/kernel.
And lastly I dont have a laptop/computer. So for the links/files/attachments Im just using this phone to download those stuff.
So Im hoping that someone can give me a headstart. Thanks
You can use mods with rooted stock ROM and kernel but upto a limit. For example you cannot overclock your CPU but can control its frequency within the limits.
I would suggest you to go for a CyanogenMod ROM. It will give you more customization options than you'll need included in the ROM itself.
Sent from my Karbonn using xda app-developers app
ok so mod is for customization right? like I can updgrade my OS to ICS?
actually my goal here is for me to play the games which are not compatible on my phone. like Inotia 4 etc.
Im just wondering why those games are not cpmpatible. Is it because of my OS? which is Gingerbread?
And what is OverClock? you said its for the CPU stuff so that means it could increase the speed of my phone right?
By the way, everytime we reply or make some msg we really need to input these "Captcha"?
There may be many reasons why a game/application is not compatible with your phone, may be because of your phone's hardware configuration or even just because of the dpi (dots per inch - in simple words how big everything appears on your display) of your device.
Yes overclocking means increasing your processors speed above the rated (allowed) value. Its not so safe though, may make your device unstable or even damage it permanently.
Yes for a junior member there are these irritating restrictions.
Sent from my Karbonn A26 using xda app-developers app
Ok now I got it..
Alright so I think it's already on my phone. The screen was too small so maybe even if I use ChainFire 3D it won't help haha.
And even if I change my Mod/Kernel it won't help me. I watch the videos of CM7/CM9 and there's a lot of bugs.
So I think the best way is to buy a different phone that will give me good specs. LOL
But I still have a question, is there a way to improve our wifi connection for the phone? like using root or something?
because even if I have a better phone I still need to have a good wifi connection. Im currently using 1mbps haha.
Im searching for some apps in the market but I can't trust those apps. Do you have any suggestion to improve internet speed?
Thanks in advance man!

First and foremost
1. Read all posts in a thread make own judgement. No ready reckoners here.
2. In your case try restoring cwm backup first then do all sorts of things.
3. Dont get carried away by threads. Many are experienced so not all posts will have basic details.
Eg: Take backup of your EFS partition that contains your IMEI using galaxytoolbox app from playstore. This is not mentioned as pre requisite to ROM flashing.
Loosing imei is like losing phone. Finally its a phone and not playstation.
Get galaxy grand for gaming. I see.myvfriend immersed in temple run and aeroplane pilotting.
I can suggest dr driving raging thunder 2 for sgy with good 3d graphics. You have lot of options in gaming too.
Remember "All that glitters are not gold".
We friends are here to help see you already got so many responses lucky fellow.

Hi all,
i own a Tab S6 T860 (non-lte) for quite a while now, about 6 months.
There are some downsides like the horrible unbuffered screen tearing that you'll get with fast-scrolling, but the overall device is pretty premium-sided, and it's got a decent processor, a great display (color/resolution wise) although im missing 2160p in youtube.
Question is as i (until now) didnt bothered developing for a new device, since i had my hands full with the MiPad4, some alcatel devices and are Maintaining official LineageOS for three legacy devices, should i develop for this one if the community still wants it.
The lead-dev of the MiPad left it so im thinking about developing for the Tab S6 now.
I would only develop LineageOS, starting with 16.0 then doing 17.1 and then 18 but idk how long it would take, since ive no real knowledge of the newest platforms and how they are built, so i'd be reading/trying out stuff a LOT before some release nightlies. The "latest" i developed for was the MiPad4 with a sdm660 btw but i mainly do legacy (e.g 8953/8952/8926).
So please leave your feedback or any other opinions/questions, if we reach a decent amount of people who still want it i'll start right away when im back home from my vacations on 18th.
Best Regards!

I would LOVE to have LOS on my Tab S6 (SM-T860) WiFi-only tablet!
Don't even care about stuff like fingerprint, external keyboard, Widevine, Bluetooth, any 'functionality' similar to what Samsung 'provides' like, you name it.
I've spent sooo much time, and a few dollars, trying to get preinstalled stuff to *not* work! but still be able to boot—Knox bull****, anyone?
And having telephony **** on my WiFi-only tablet, either. Something that has baffled me for years is why a 'custom' ROM for a Wifi-only device has software that trys to interact with nonexistent hardware, using up cpu as it continually tries...on a bit of a rant, there.
So yeah, I'm all in. FWIW, I helped write the instructions, and did a *lot* of testing for rooting the Tab S5e, so I ain't scared to test out stuff; check it out, here:

Thanks for the info about the S5e, i was unaware of how well it is supported.
I would definitely do stuff like fingerprint, widevine, Bluetooth (PEN) and stuff.
But idk about those keyboards samsung offers and how they function since i cant test it on my own.
Same goes for the LTE but im pretty sure i can just use the same blobs.
BTW anyone has a firehose package for the tab s6 by chance???
I too would love LOS in this device. Samsung UI is cluttery, lagging (on mine), and an absolute mess. My PocoF1 gives me better Honkai Impact 3 (a gatcha action fighting game) performance than this tablet, and the poco is an SD845, with lite LOS. So yeah, I'd love to have this. My warranty is void anyways (because samsung decided so I haven't done a thing to void it), so it'd be great to have a reason to take advantage of that.
Chiming in for a plea to get a Lineage build for the Tab S6.
Such a gorgeous piece of hardware beset by such a ****ty software implementation. Why does Samsung insist on abusing its customers? I'd gladly pay for a Lineage or AOSP rom for our device.
Alright, a little update:
Kernel is done -> link found below
It has to be handled with care as of now. Installing it on my running rom resulted in a crash when unlocking the device. A quick factory reset fixed the problem but keep that in mind when installing this on your device.
Rom will follow up hopefully till next month - but i cant promise anything.

i would love to have custom kernel for samsung rom, but i don mind if you can make enhancements to the kernel like under volt or to solve the graphics lagging issues. it was just tiny changes involved in the past to make it work for both stock and LineageOS but for android 10, i have no idea
i have long inactive in both rom and kernel developments and i doubt how long should it take to get familiar with changes from android 7 to 10
ps i am still on pie, too lazy to upgrade due to my csc is tgy, which lacks updates as usual, and i dont wanna reinstall everything as to switch to dbt and to re-enter all my passwords
btw, may i ask if the stock android 10 fixed the problem with fast scrolling? i have experiences lags and graphics distortions with the samsung browser which was way toooooo unacceptable for a top device like tab s6

nope, sadly we still suffer from those issues on Q .
I dont have any good knowledge of how to apply those undervolts as i never done it before (lineageos requires stock govenors for official) but if you can point me to the correct commits i can look at it

oh...
there were some cpu/voltage tweaks for the same cpu before for my old devices. and for our tab s 6 there are a few devices with the same cpu like one plus. you can search the cpu model in github and then you can find the code name of it and those devices which use the same cpu. i used to get those tweaks for modifying kernels for my previous devices. however for our 855, sadly there's no port for the samsung devices afaik, so you may need to make some more changes in order to port them
---------- Post added at 05:54 ---------- Previous post was at 05:35 ----------
just found this one https://github.com/kdrag0n/proton_bluecross/releases
it should be a 855 with some oc according to the change log, but unfortunately i couldnt load the changes with my browser so i couldnt find the relevant commits
may be you can take a look at that

I'm in at 17.1 level and up. Don't want to go back...
YES! Yes please please please! I have been dreaming and hoping LOS would come to the Tab S6 for SO long now. So yes, please make a rom for it. Please.
I would love to have LOS rom support on the Tab S6! The lack of Lineage OS support was the one thing holding me back from purchasing the Tab S6, compared to the Tab S5E, but I wanted the faster processor, storage, and larger memory capacity.
That said, if you develop a working LOS rom, that would be a huge win for all Tab S6 users!
I don't think there is a person on XDA with the tab S6 that would not want to see a custom lineage Rom built. I do want a working Spen though. Im on stock 10 One UI 2.5 and samsung is extremely slow at releasing the kernel source code for the 860. Its definitely worth it to use to build one if you can. Thanks for developing on the tab S6.
LOS for T-865 ?! Yes, absolutely
P.S: Working pen would be great of course.
Still On The Fence.

I would support a ROM for this device, but I am leery about past issues and previous devices. I had 3 smp600 units, and all three were beaten to the edge with constant testing of all the ROMS I could grab. But, only ONE of those tabs choked on something from a pure LOS build. Then it hit a brick wall. I could never find a way past a Nov 18 build. So, now with two smt870 units, I will tread lightly. And, big question: WHY are we STILL stuck with ODIN for this process? I know nothing of the process of coding and writing these great ROMS, but having to drag out a WINDOWS laptop to update my android device seems like many steps backwards. I have no NEED for a laptop save for praying for Odin to even run properly. Wish there were better ways for us old farts who've forgotten more tricks than new ones have been taught. But, I am on board to get the Sammy off of my tab. Thanks for your errors.

Well if your not rooted you dont need odin you can install official release update. If you mean to install custom rom like lineage you again dont need odin after you install TWRP.
Actually, on debloated rooted stock ROM I don't see any problems so far..Device is holding it solid and sound.
Flavour of Lineage is absolutely welcome, but personaly I wouldn't use it because a lot of bugs and non functional addons.
Personally...this tablet without pen is like Ferrari without fuel.
Rooted debloated stock is miles ahead of Samsung's incompetent shadow apps. But even as stripped down as I can make it, the ROM still lags and burns battery in the background. I've tried everything and can't get this beautiful expensive piece of hardware to perform to its specs. I respect others who love it as is, but I've never gotten comfortable with the pen and just want a light, fast tablet with a beautiful screen that doesn't overtax its battery.
I'd switch to Lineage on this device in a heartbeat.
this project still alive? seems dead for me.
