The single most ridiculous thing about stock Android.

The notification and call volume are the same. It has been the case ever since ICS and the only way to over come the issue is to use a custom rom, even rooting doesn't do anything to over come it.
I always sleep with phone on silent but I have started missing important unknown calls and was thinking that I should just keep my notifications silent when sleeping. So how do I do that on a nexus? Well I can't lol. Even if I select silent ring tone for notifications in the settings some apps like whatsapp have their own notification tone setting and will over ride whatever you have selected in settings. So basically I need to change the setting for every app everyday lol.
Now with iOS 6 even iPhone gives you higher control over notifications than stock Android. In the day of increased push services and what not a smartphone really needs to offer robust control over all this.

First world problems.

"There's an app for that"

The same iPhone that I have to hit multiple buttons just to activate/deactivate the WiFi/Bluetooth and other functions. When Android been able to do it in one or two taps.

I have no idea what your talking about in T-Mobile stock Rom for the s3 you could control between notification, volume, and ringtone sound all separately no custom Rom required

"Stock" on a SIII would mean TouchWiz, wouldn't it?
He means completely stock Android.

Yea i was just about to say it's probably just a different Android version well as the dude said previously there is probably an app for that or if you dig around you might find a flashable audio control tweak.

Elixir 2 lets me unlink the notification volume from the ring tone volume. I use this on my stock Galaxy Nexus (mine is rooted, not sure if that is required for this function in the app).

He already said that making the phone silent made him lose important calls. He sure doesn't want it to be switched off
I used an app called volume control in the past to control notification and ring tone volumes individually. There's a free version on the play store. Give it a try

Solution to every problem out there. Go spend that $6. It's totally worth it.

I think a much bigger problem with vanilla android is the lack of a T9 dialer. This is one of the most useful and important features on a phone for me and i don't think there's any way to fix this without a custom ROM.
I wish google would just add this and get it over with. I see no reason why they haven't already done so.

i have no idea if the stock from has this feature but im running paranoidandroind 2.54 on my gnex and there is a option to link ringtone and notifications together or have them separate. But even before using this rom i remember when you go to setting->sounds->Volume you can change ring and notifications separately.

there's ton of apps that let you "personalize" sounds and led notifications if you just look for them in the play store not to mention the countless roms that include these features. no need to start insulting people because of your ignorance.

I agree; Android definitely needs better sound/LED notification controls. For an OS so heavily invested in "personalization," it certainly lacks any here But oh wait, the Android fanboys and Google nuthuggers say its fine, so I guess it must be, right?

You can get t9 with third party dialor you don't need custom rom or even root for that. I use touch pal contacts its a brilliant app and you can theme it as well. The best thing about android is that you can change default system apps.
And people I have used several profile applications but all of them are riddled with bugs. The more powerful an app is the more bugs it seems to have. And some of those bugs can be so severe its not even funny. Like one of these apps "profile scheduler" would sometimes disconnect my network after a phone call lol wut.
However of course I am not giving up I am searching for apps that can unlink the notification and ring tone volume and seems like some of the devs have been able to do it now.
I am rooted btw so I will look into the recommendations put forward by a few posters.

Because Samsung was never stupid enough to link the notification and ring tone volume. Bleh android oem's can be good at times lol.
I am also amazed at the blocking mode in jelly bean galaxy S3. I would like to see Samsung add profiles to blocking mode but in any case it trumps every other phone in terms of the sheer control it gives you. I have realised it really is better for such critical features to be built in instead of using an "app".

[Q] Set phone to vibrate ONLY when screen off?

Is there a way to set my phone to only vibrate when the screen is off?
If I'm using the device I can see notifications as they pop up so I do not need the phone to vibrate constantly. I have a GS5 on 4.4.4

I want an app or a way so the only time my phone vibrates for notifications is when the screen is off. I do t want it to vibrate if the screen is on when I'm using the device as there's no point I can already see the notifs.

I thought android had greater customisation than iOS, so far seems like the opposite. I mostly just needed this option for whatsapp, as it's annoying when I'm browsing or even whatsapping someone else that when someone else is whatsapping me it keeps vibrating.

Well why don't you just deactivate vibration in notification bar if you don't need it and vice versa if needed?

Bro If you want to close the tone and vibration on whatsapp then u can configure it in settings of whatsapp go to
Settings > notification
You will see all the settings of tones

Does the Find X2 Pro have an always on display or not? I've read various bits of information that contradict each other and can't find a definitive answer anywhere. Thanks. ?

I was wondering about that also, and the US price.

Apologies, to clarify, mine is on the China ROM so that's probably why it doesn't support third party.

Mine turns off after 20 minutes or so even when charging, had to buy a bedside clock now lol

Mine too, it's called "always", what's always, switched off after 20 minutes? LOL...
And the Curved Panoramic Light Effect lights up twice. It's embarrassing. It sucks.
Why not always always and the notification light, let it be set as you like. Somehow the ColorOS is not thought through.

Totally agree, is frustrating to have always on display that does not stay on always.
They should fix that ASAP as I can't glance at the screen now to see notifications or clock and the edge light should stay on spefic notification like the Samsung led light.
Samsung and Huawei is way ahead for alway on display.
Hauwei even gives notification counter on always on display eg what's app then number of messages.

This is to prolong battery life & also help with screen longevity as there have been burn in cases with other devices, however maybe they should leave it up to the user to decide

Hi, i am using the Chinese version of the Find X2 pro and I just can't seem to get the it to work for notifications.
It works just fine when I get calls, but it doesn't do anything when I receive messages from like WhatsApp or WeChat etc.
I have the "light effects for lock screen" option turned on but it still doesn't work Does anyone here know a fix?

Same here. Never noticed this working on mine either now you mention it. China spec in UK also.

Doesn't work with global rom in UK either! I use True Edge from google play store, but even that is hit and miss (and it's not brilliant on the battery). Not sure why a company who doesn't include a notification LED doesn't do more for other methods of notifying.

Bizarre (seems to be the buzz word for this phone). I got mine from Netherlands, and running EU rom, but they don't work for me.

Anyone got these Lock Screen Notifications working?
I've got the settings and it works lighting up, but only once, then it just stops which sort of defeats the object ?

It's only lighting up once or twice. Don't expect more. It's ok like that. If you want more then install from playstore. There a couple of apps which has similar settings for incoming messages calls, etc.

Can I ask you which update you have now , mine received update once only and may security until now

Yeah same issue here. Always On display is the only workaround I can think of.
With no LED they need a way to let you know of missed calls and text messages..
Can anyone recommend an alternative app?

I've tried:
True Edge
Always on Edge
Always on AMOLED
Notify Edge
All are *huge* battery suckers
Currently using Notify Buddy by Xander Apps. Seems to be the best for battery useage and lights up a circle (which is an absolute PITA to position). I have it perpendicular to the camera punch on right of screen. Works for *most* apps but not all.
Don't agree with the comment about notification only lighting once or twice is useful. We have notification sounds for that!

I think this is more if you are away from your phone or it's on silent. You want to be able to glance at your phone and know if there is something important pending. (like a missed call). At this point in time without Always on Display there is no way to do this.

I did try NotifyBuddy though didnt work for me.. No LED coming up.

i think always on display is the best option. at least it's a factory app designed to be run all the time.
For anyone not sure it's called "Screen off Clock" in the Oppo settings.

Took an age for me to "find" the LED on screen. Had to manually position and then use the overly-sensitive pseudo mouse to eventually find it. Move it a millimetre and it's gone again!

Similar issue on my UK purchased device, just over a month now, one update since purchase - CPH2025CPW_11_A.24 (still on June security patch!!)
Initially screen light effect for lock screen notifications worked but in the last few days has stopped lighting up for messages. Works fine for incoming calls though...

On which apps are we talking about?

On all apps but I think I worked it out. The battery optimisation on colour os is very aggressive and needs to be manually turned off for any app you want to receive realtime notifications from.
