[Q] not enough Posts. But SOKP roms, are they not compatible with Multirom? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

yo,
nexus 5,
SOKP, by the guys at Sonic developers.
Are the roms by them not compatible with MultiRom? Or just Kernel Specific.
Dont reply back with retarded comments please, I am on tapatalk and for some reason Im unable to specifically search for an answer via that app.
LOG:
MultiRom installed; no kernel hard boot
SOKP Rom installed, as primary rom.
When adding another ROM side by side, Multi Rom requires you Kernel hard Patch,
as soon as I install the kernel, and add the secondary rom of my choice, the primary rom, fails to boot.
Thanks.

[Q] shw m110s

good day to all..
im new with this phone..this one is a korean version of galaxy s1(shw m110s)
im confused with how to install custom roms here...
what do i need to download..a kernel or a custom rom?
thanks xda
Moved to General Q&A.
The kernel allows the ROM to communicate with the hardware specific to your device. All ROMs have a kernel build-in. If the custom ROM is designed fir your phone, it will work fine. If the ROM was intended for a device in the same family as yours, you can flash that ROM, then flash the kernel for your phone, & it'll work. If the ROM was designed for a completely different device, nothing will get it to work.
Remember to always do a nandroid backup before flashing stuff!!

[Q] ROMS with GApps?

Hello, I just rooted my Galaxy S3 for Verizon for the first time yesterday, therefore I am fairly new to this. After I flashed CM10 using TWRP, my Google apps are gone. I've tried flashing gapps on TWRP but it gives me a message saying "unfortunately, Google Play has stopped working." I know that this is due to the licensing issues and all, so my question is, what ROMS can I flash that has GApps available in it?
Thanks in advance!

To answer your question, any TW based roms will have Gapps with it. So practically any rom in the Verizon Galaxy S III Android Development forum would have it. To your issue, are you sure you flashed the right Gapps version? Just as reference you can get any version from here http://goo.im/gapps I assumed you flashed 10.1 version of CM since they are the latest which you should be using the 20130301 version of Gapps following the table that is on that website.
This might be a stupid question, but where can I find this forum? And yes, I did flash that version of Gapps... And correction; I have the 10.0.0-d2vzw version of CM. Am I supposed to get another version of Gapps? I really like this ROM and I want to try it out for a few weeks until I switch to a new one.

Forum section for us is http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1708 Go there and click on Verizon Galaxy S III Android Development forum. If you look at the website link I gave you, they have a table. On the left, it shows the CM versions and on the right shows the corresponding Gapps version you are suppose to use with that CM version. Since you are using 10.0.0, if you look on the left you will see 10.0.x and on the right, you will see the corresponding gapps version 20121011. You use that version for CM 10. Btw if you find CM 10 interesting go to the Verizon Galaxy S III Original Android Development forum. They have roms based on CM, AOSP, AOKP, etc. Be sure to read up more on flashing since you are pretty new to this. Bricking phones isn't fun lol
What ROMS do you personally recommend? And I know! I almost bricked it yesterday, and trust me, it was not fun at all.

Depends on your preference. If you are into the Stock TouchWiz look but without the bloat that verizon puts, I recommend CleanRom. I also recommend it to people who are new to flashing since it is a pretty simple rom. This rom is pretty much as close as you can get to getting stock reliability. If you want to go into a more customize it yourself TouchWiz roms, I would suggest SynergyROM, Jelly 'Beans' Rom, Hyperdrive, or Axis. Besides each having their own tweaks and sometimes themes, during install, you get to choose which apps/settings/kernel/theme, you want to have, so pretty much you get to customize almost all aspects of the rom to your liking. They all also get updated on a somewhat regular basis. You will have to flash all of them and play with them to see which one is to your liking.
For CM 10.1 based roms, CM 10.1 Nightlies, Slimbean, Carbon Rom. I would be careful with these roms, as they are a bit temperamental with some phones. Most of the time you are fine and you won't get into an issue but the times that you do, you will have to read through the threads to see if there is a solution to it.
There are also the PARANOIDANDROID and ParanoidKANGdroid roms, I haven't personally tried them but heard good things, they are also based on CM 10.1
I really appreciate your help, bro. For now, I'll stick to the CM 10.1 ROM that I just flashed. It's good so far, and I finally got t solve my issue of gapps thanks to you.
Great example of helping someone! Posts like this are the reason why I became a member of this site and fell in love with it (actually my wife calls it addiction)! I wish there were more people helping others like this, it would only make this forum better.

No don't do it. Aosp kernels are for aosp based roms. Nkd is stock based, you will have to wait for a tw version of KT
Wondering if there is a way to get themes for this new twrp 2.8.2.0 version?
Love this Kernel!
ktoonsez, what Lollipop do you personally use or prefer for your S5?
(that I could use your Kernel with).
lollipop 5.0 touch wiz
Do u know when u will be able to build a kernel that will work on the sprint s5 touch wiz 5.0?
i can confirm that the kernel is working on touchwhiz and fusion rom 5.0 (sprint) with no boot problems or f.c's. etc.. thanks for the kernel
AOSP Lollipop 5.0 VERSION.
I assume your new kernel (above), will work on "[STOCK ROM][5.0] NKD Android L Odexed" ?
That rom is NKD based, your kernel is NL9 based.
I don't see a NL9 firmware we can flash onto our G900P.
Well I flashed:
Touchwiz Lollipop 5.0 VERSION: 01.03.2015
and now I can not connect to the camera with any camera app.
I apply the nightly builds of CM12 every day.
Do I need to re-install this kernel?
What ROM(s) are TouchWiz lollipop that will work on my kltespr? I see new kernels for TW 5.0, but what can I run this on?
Out of curiosity. How do scripts work. Why aren't there any in the shop?

Hey guys,
How do I flash the 09/01 kernel with CM12 20/01?
I've been running CM12 already but having the Bluetooth issues. I've downloaded KT-SGS5-LP5.0-AOSP-G900-01.09.2015.zip but when I go to flash it from recovery it says zip signature verification failed. Do I have to untick the verification?
Thanks.
hello,
just installed the newest kernel 2-11, thank you. I noticed one problem that I think is kernel related, but not to sure. when i open my camera app, it shows blue lines in the photo. i did not have this problem earlier today when I used the camera, weird. any opinion? i am currently running fusion 5.0 on OA6 with
thanks

Check out the MOAR FAQ. Yes, you can. You even had the option to install it when you flashed MOAR 6.1.
I just updated to version 9, dated 2/26. However, I'm unable to get any signals..... I had to go back to version dated 2/25.
Any ideas?
Problem with 2-26-2015 kernel - Modem stopped working (Sprint)
On the 2-26-2015 kernel, my phone modem would not connect to Sprint. This also prevented WIFI calling to work as well.
I had to revert back to the 2-25-2015 kernel.
When I flashed 2-26, I wiped dalvik/cache afterwards.
Anyone able to reproduce this?
I flashed 2/26/2015 and the phone was not getting any signal. It said that it kept telling me to insert a sim every time I tried to do something that needed the network. I also went back to 2/25/2015

Several Noob questions about custom ROMs?

Hi guys,
I always read in the Xda forum but never wrote or asked a question...usually someone already asked them.
so I have the Mi 5S PLUS...but I hate the miui UI. can't get used to it. And yesterday I finally found that there are custom ROM for this device.
So I got few questions.
1. As far as i know, the source code hasnt been released but should be released soon. should I wait for a ROM that uses the source code?
2. I see that the most popular costum ROMs for this device are - Lineage and resurrection remix. In terms of battery life, stability and bug free rom. which one is the best?
3. I see there is one ROM with the tag [OFFICIAL]....does this mean it uses the source code? if not, what does it mean?
thanks a lot to those that answer

1. Source code is released but rom based on source code are not released yet .You can use them but their are some bugs,
2.You can check yourself
3. Official means official rom from lineage team or other maintainers just like Global MIUI rom from xiaomi is official while xiaomi.eu is unofficial .
You can check for source in rom page for more info about what device tree and source code it uses

The reason that people don't recommend one over the other is because YMMV. I know I came from a cyanogen ROM with my previous phone and dirty unicorns on the phoen before that (along with a whole set of custom ROMs). In the end though, I found them all to be "similar". Yes, some do some things differently like some offer a lot of CPU governors, while others keep the list pretty tight. Some default with swap space on, some don't use swap space at all (this phone shouldn't need swap space). Sometimes the difference between two ROMs is just the launcher.
For me, I don't really like the MIUI launcher. It feels a lot like an iphone. This isn't a bad thing. Some people like it. I just install Apex (from the play store) and my issues with the ROM were mostly resolved. The only remaining problem is MASS STORAGE. But, based on my experience with mly previous phone, I doubt I'll find a ROM that natively supports it. But I know how to hack my way in and get that going (just need root... which requires an unlocked bootloader... and if I am reading things correctly, you need to wipe everything which I currently not willing to do... but may have found a workaround... going to test it out tomorrow).

Wiping everything is easy, yes, but I want to avoid wiping if I don't have to.
Got the phone rooted without needing to wipe it (yay), but getting mass storage enabled failed on me. I can't seem to write to the file I need to which confuses me... but that is off topic so I'll refrain from boring you with details on that.
Back on topic, if you are switching to a custom ROM you will need to wipe things. I personally would wait for a custom kernel to come out before you start playing with custom ROMs unless the custom ROM has a feature you REALLY want. With my previous phones, the one that had a custom Kernel as well as custom ROMs was a lot more stable and had a lot fewer bugs. The one that had only factory kernel, the custom ROMs were flaky. They mostly worked, but they did have bugs. If I got a phone call or called somebody and they hung up first, it would crash the dialer and the dialer would fail to start again until I rebooted. Now a custom kernel may not have helped that, but since the kernel was based on a previous version of Android, it was unstable.
The current custom ROMs (that I have seen) are all based off of the stock kernel and not newer ones so I personally do not expect to see much benefit in changing ROMs except having different bloat and a different launcher. Well, at lest for the things I use my phone for. But YMMV.

Can I install a G920F/FD/I/S/K ROM and flash a G920W8 kernel to make that ROM work?

I'd like to know, if I tweak a zip file from a G920x that does not support W8 model so that it bypasses the hardware check and I install a W8 kernel before the first boot, will this work?
I'm asking because of Marduk ROM who proposes to install a W8 kernel for his ROM which does not mention any support for W8 models in his title but adds links in his description to install a W8 kernel. So I'm wondering if on other ROMs, I can do that so I can try different roms on my W8 model by simply installing a W8 kernel.

It should be fine, you might have calls not having audio though. I myself am using Marduk currently for my SM-G920W8. In other ROM threads that did not state W8 support, I have seen others say they installed it on their W8 and was working fine for them.

So if I try say LineageOS 14.1 with this custom Kernel and other proposed fixes, I should get it working? Because the available W8 supported LineageOS 14.1 has a broken download link and an unavailable author so the only available one is for non W8 models. As for no audio during calls, that's a problem I see happenning even with some supported W8 ROMS without a proper patch.
And I am just curious, because I did not see any REAL roms that pleased me, how is your experience with Marduk, is it really debloated, that's my main issue with ROMS. I really want a ROM that forces me to install OpenGapps and Magisk on my own.
