[Q] Upgrading Bootloader - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I tried to find an answer for my question on the forum, but didn't succeed. Anyway, I have an Asus TF300T with the following specs:
Bootloader WW_epad-10.6.1.27-1
Unlocked
Custom Rom SlimBean 4.3
TWRP 2.5.0
I'm looking to upgrade to this ROM CROMBi-kk which require :
Bootloader 10.6.1.27.5 and TWRP 2.6.3.1 (at least)
My question is :
How can I update my Bootloader version to the latest one 10.6.1.27.5 ? (OTA do not show up anymore since the unlock/rooting etc... So I need to do it manually)
And if I succeed, can I flash TWRP to the latest version simply by using ADB?
I've already got the latest bootloader on the ASUS Website, but I'm pretty ignorant on how to update my tablet with it
Cheers!

10.6.1.27.1 will still work fine so you don't need to upgrade the bootloader.
Just flash the correct version of TWRP over fastboot (not adb)

Process to Upgrade to JB Bootloader

So I would currently like to upgrade my tablet to the Official JB bootloader. I am rooted, and unlocked running Hiemanshu's 9/25 build. I've noticed that many of the custom ROM's I'd like to try list the Official JB Bootloader as a requirement. I have followed the nvFlash tutorial, and now currently have the AndroidRoot 9.4.5.30 Bootloader installed.
So to sum it up:
Unlocked + Rooted
I'm running Hiemanshu's 9/25 CM10 Build
I have performed nvFlash and am currently on AndroidRoot 9.4.5.30 Bootloader
My recovery is TWRP 2.2.2.3
Could anybody provide me with some instruction on where/how to find the Official JB Bootloader, and how to properly install it on my tablet? Thanks for any help!
If you want just the bootloader it is posted in the twrp thread.
Otherwise go to asus.com and download the latest rom.

Done! I was actually on the IRC channel the other day and Dees_Troy himself posted that same link for me. I didn't know it was flashable! I was using fastboot commands to try and flash it but it wasn't working, looks like that was a good thing!

[Q] Best option for root

Its good to join a new forum!
Ive decided too take one of tf300s home from work to help feed my root hunger (also running cm10.1 on htc evo 4g lte)
This tablet is currently running 4.0.3
Assuming i will be walking the custom ROM road, should I leave tablet at 4.0.3 or upgrade to JB? I won't have my p c to perform fastboot until next week, this is why i ask.
Thanks in advance
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
I would suggest moving up to JB. I've been using CM 10.1 (which is running 4.2.1) on my TF300T and it's been great. The UI and options are better on JB than on ICS, even though ICS was a pretty great step up.

I also just got my tablet now and I'm holding the firmware update while reading, what do you advice? push to OTA or unlock, root, then custom rom? I thought I saw few others having problem with JB is that OTA JB? That's why I'm not pushing any OTA updates for now.
Thanks in advance!

1st solution (That I've made)
Don't update to JB now.
Rooted and unlock in ICS
Backup your root with OTA Rootkeeper
and after JB update by OTA and restore your root with OTA ROOTKEEPER.
2nd Solution:
Or unlock and root your TF and use the NVFLASH tool (with pre-JB bootloader)
3rd solution:
Go on OTA JB Update
Unlock your TF
and use this guide : [ROOT/ROM] Root Stock/Deodex Firmware 10.4.2.20 (US/WW) | Insecure kernel ! when you are on the version of firmware
Go to my index and you will find all the links that you need

Thanks for your help here's what I did:
-Unlocked using APK
-did NVFLASH tool
-flash CWM
-root
-install OTA Rootkeeper
Now I want to install hydro and I know I have to be in JB boot loader the only question for me now to be able to proceed is:
-Install the pending OTA JB update (I dont know if this will proceed installing since it was downloaded while Im stock, I'm afraid it will brick my device since Im now unlocked, nvflash, rooted)
OR
-Just DL latest from ASUS (ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T Firmware: V10.4.2.20 Only for US SKU (Android 4.1)) Can I just install the latest or I need to install pre requisite update first?
THEN
-Install compatible recovery for JB
-Install custom rom

It's really easy now that you're unlocked, rooted and used NVFlash.
I suppose you're still in ICS.
Backup somewhere all of your files (stock rom, nvflash file etc...) use Titanium backup for save & restore your apps later
You can use both process for update your TF
The OTA update, and every time, you are going to have to restore your root.

[Q] Need help with installing first ROM

Hi, I have a TF700 which I have unlocked using Asus Unlock tool and have installed TWRP 2.4.4.0 on it.
In TWRP I did a factory reset and I can push files to it with adb push under TWRP.
My question is that what steps I need to do to install a custom rom, and then Ubuntu 12.10.
The part what I don't understand is the firmwares. I was on 4.2.1 but I don't know which firmware. How can I check which firmware I was on, and which is good or bad for my roms? I've seen there is a new update from a few days ago, I don't know if I was on it or not.
Is there a way to check the firmware from adb? Does it matter which firmware I am on? Is there an IRC channel for the TF700?

AFAIK there is no Ubuntu port yet that is known to work with the 4.2 kernel.
The only 4.2.1 firmware released so far for the TF700 is 10.6.1.14.4. You can find that number in Settings -> About Tablet. With adb, you can pull /system/build.prop and read it.
I'm confused about it. Is it that because of the OTA 4.2 update I cannot install any 4.1 ROM now?
And for the Ubuntu image, do I need an Android ROM as well?

[Q] Updating your bootloader

I'm currently on Android 4.1.2 using Baked 6 and I want to upgrade to Baked 8, or anything on 4.2 for that matter. If I update a ROM, does this also mean it updates my bootloader? If not how to I properly update my bootloader without bricking my tablet? I've been reading around but there's so much data on the forums that I feel like I'm going to accidentally make a mistake

No flashing a custom rom will not upgrade your bootloader, only the stock asus firmwares will do this or a custom made blob file.
There are several methods to upgrade your bootloader to a JB 4.2 bootloader which can be found here or here. I prefer using the fastboot method for upgrading but up to you. Just make sure that once you've upgraded your bootloader to a 4.2 bootloader that you flash a -4.2 version of twrp or you will brick. I would suggest upgrading to JB 4.2 - 10.6.1.15.3 & twrp 2.5.0.0-4.2 as I find this more stable than 10.6.1.8 & twrp 2.4.4.0-4.2
If using the fastboot method and you need any help with any step just let me know.

[Q] How to identify what version Bootloader I am running

How do I identify what version of Bootloader I am running. I am rooted and unlocked and have TWRP installed and also running the Hydro7 ROM. Looking at other ROMS I need to have the JB Bootloader installed. How do I check this?
Thanks in advance.

You can check your bootloader version in the bootloader menu/screen.
Hold vol- & power to boot to bootloader and the text in the top left of the screen will show your bootloader version.
Hydro 7 requires a JB 4.1 bootloader and is based off JB 4.1 - 10.4.2.20 - so if running Hydro 7 you are currently on a JB 4.1 bootloader.
Alot of customs roms are now based on a JB 4.2 bootloader, so if wanting to flash a rom that requires a JB 4.2 bootloader you will need to upgrade your bootloader first.
If upgrading to JB 4.2 bootloader please ensure the you flash the correct recovery, only the -4.2 versions of twrp are compatibly with the 4.2 bootloaders. Flashing a non-4.2 version of twrp or cwm will brick your device. Have a look at my how-to is sig below for more info.
If you need any help in doing this or more info just let me know.
Hi pjc21, thanks for the reply that clears up my bootloader question and your follow on information. I can now confirm that I am running bootloader "10.4.2.20" and TWRP "2.4.3.0".
So just to confirm after reading your instructions about upgrading my bootloader to "JB4.2" all I need to do is to follow your instructions and flash firmware "V10.6.1.15.3 Only for TW SKU (Android 4.2) 2013.04.23 Update" and TWRP "openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-tf300t-4.2.blob".
Is this correct?
As ever your help is greatly appreciated.
