[Q] S-Health Sync - Samsung Gear 2

Hello all. Does anyone know how I can properly sync S-Health with both my Note 3 and Gear 2? The pedo readings are incorrect on by the watch and the Note. Is there a way to sync it to correctly work with each other? Would using gear fitness work better then S-Health?
Just looking for recommendations . If not can I disable the pedo on the gear because the Note 3 seems more reliable

To me it seems the Gear2 is more accurate. The pedo in my S5 counts steps ever time we hit a bump while I'm riding the bus. I use mine when I run and I have also noticed the 'distance' is way off. I assume it's because the gear only counys steps and the phone goes on both steps and GPS. When my Gear 2 Neo says im at 3 miles, the phone says 3.25. But if you go into settings in the S-Health pedo app on the phone, you can change which device the app uses.

I agree with the other guy...but all in all the Gear 2 sucks in how it tracks and the user above said the Gear 2 is just off so not sure how the sync will help. I tried jogging using the Gear 2 and I run a set course I know the mileage and it is just off. I run with my Note 3 phone anyway in a nice arm strape for it and I just turn RunKeeper on and give me true accuracy since GPS. I miss my Gear with had RunKeeper app so I could control from watch.
I think regardless how you sync you will find the phone and watch just way off track on S-Heatlth with the steps/pedometer. Disappointing

Same here. I use C25K and map my ride/run and even 'tracks', they are all pretty close. As you said, I run the same route all the time and I know where a mile, 1.5 miles, 2 miles and 3 miles is and the gear 2 is off. I've since excepted the 3 mile mark on the gear 2 only because I'm trying to run about 3.2 or a 5k. But I know what the problem is I've noticed it when I run. Im 6"2' I run slow and take fewer steps than the shorter Koreans and pass them. In other words the they 'look' like they are running faster than me by the amount of steps they take. I look like I'm only jogging and I catch and pass them. So basically I take less steps in a mile than they do. I think if you could actually calibrate the gear2 with the input of your height in the profile, it would be more accurate.

Well my S-Health stopped recording my tracks anyway as of yesterday. Just stuck on 0
I couldnt find that setting in the pedo app, maybe because my S-Health is older than yours

Samsung Gear S2 disconnects from Nexus 6P, Light Reset

If my Samsung Gear S2 gets disconnected from my Nexus 6P at all, I have to do a light reset and reestablish bluetooth connection with phone. I have tried updating the Gear Manager app, but I get "Unable to update new software. Device is encrypted. Decrypt?" It sends me to my security settings, but everything I have tried won't make it work.
Any suggestions???
I fixed this. Reset watch. Pair the watch to a decrypted phone, do the update, reset the watch, pair it back to your phone. Problem 100% solved.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Ran into the exact same issue today after purchasing a Gear S2 and pairing it with my 6P. Walked away from my phone, came back, and realized the watch hadn't re-paired with it. After doing some Googling, this is the only mention of it I've found, so thanks for posting it and reassuring me that I'm not crazy.
Unfortunately, I don't want to decrypt my 6P yet, so it looks like I'll be returning the watch. That sucks because I liked it much more than the new 360 and other Android Wear devices. Looks like I'm headed back to using my Pebble Time.
Thanks for penalizing those of us that don't want to use your phones but like this watch, Samsung! /s
*edit* So after doing some more digging, it seems the update I can't take on my 6P for the watch (since it prompts you to decrypt the phone), fixes this issue. Apparently, if you can connect the watch to another, unencrypted phone, then you can take the update and re-pair with the 6P and the problem should be fixed.

It works fully until the watch and phone are disconnected (either by getting out of range of each other or by disconnecting them intentionally). Once that happens, you have to reset the watch and set it up again. You have to do this every single time they disconnect.
From what I've read, the latest update to the watch fixes this, but I don't have a phone that's unencrypted in order to download the update (the Gear app prompts you to decrypt the phone when you try and take the watch update). I've got both the Nexus 6 and 6P, so I may just go ahead and decrypt the 6, pair the watch to it, take the update, then pair it back with my 6P.

You have to unlock the bootloader, then flash a file that does the decryption. Problem is, both of those wipe the phone, so you have to start from scratch.

to be clear, missing functionality on non-Samsung phones are: no text or email app (but can reply to text and email notifications), no ability to answer a phone call, only reject, and no access to paid apps (only free apps) on the Gear app store.

This is not true anymore. I have an HTC One M8 and a gear S2 Classic. I did buy watch faces and apps on the Galaxy App store without any problem.

Weather on the BT S2

Anyone still getting poor updates on weather? I set mine to update hourly but I rarely get the temp reflected hourly on the watch face. If I open the app on the watch it'll update, but not otherwise. I have a Classic with the ...BPA4 update on a Samsung Note 4 phone. Also there is a difference between steps on the watch and steps on my phone. Usually a couple hundred steps at the end of the day.
Mine rarely updates at all.

Tips and Tricks found *UPDATED 11/28*

Hey all, Just got my LTE variant and have been fiddling around with it and have discovered some things. Wanted to post here and let people know what I've come across.
So far I have discovered:
-Gear works with Rooted Devices (at least with my Note 4)
-Samsung Pay from Gear works with Rooted Devices (Can't add my Discover Card yet, planned support for hopefully end of year)
-You DON'T have to use the default texting app in order to send/receive/reply to messages from the S3. So far, the apps I've found that support this are Google Hangouts, ChompSMS, Textra, and Google Messenger. It does have a few hangups though. This thread states the methods I used to achieve this and the hangups observed by doing this.
-You can control phone music from the s3, but cannot stream to it...yet.
-Gear seems to auto lock when removed from wrist. Unable to tell if it's based on the lack of heart beat or sense of movement. Not an issue, just making aware.
-Gear supports AOD (Always On Display). The type of display given is based on the watch face currently in use, so it would appear your watch face must have support for it otherwise it will default to a stock face (needs testing). Using AOD will shift pixels around to prevent burn in every time you go to wake the watch. Have lightly tested and can verify it shifts. Will be testing on my next charge cycle to test battery life and burn in potential (trying to test as much as I can within my 14 day period of which to exchange for another device (lemon law)
So far that's all I've come across and will update this page accordingly with more information. Please feel free to add yourself anything you have discovered so we can let the rest of our Gear toting brothers and sisters know these tips and tricks.

The Samsung Pay you use is a baked in app that is part of the Samsung Gear app. I have in installed on my rooted Nougat port on my HTC 10 and it works perfect. You don't need the official Samsung Pay app installed on the device at all. It seems as of now, that Samsung thinks the security on the watch is enough to allow you to use it side by side with a rooted phone. I hope it stays that way, because I have never been able to use Android pay because of the Root issue.

Yes I did. However have been very busy since getting it and have not had time to update the thread. I've tested a few additional features and even a skin from Skinomi to protect the watch. When I have time tonight I will try to update what I can.
What I can say now, the watch feels a little lackluster, but since it's my first wearable, and it works for what I bought it for (messaging/calling, Samsung pay) it works great. But there are time I worry I'm not using it to its potential or it's just in its baby phases and doesn't have many apps yet.

I just picked mine up a few days ago a and that sums up my feelings also. It's my first smartwatch and I've been wondering if I'm using it's full potential. I haven't been thrilled with the battery life but I have been playing around with it a lot and have only charged it a couple of times. Hopefully that will improve when I finally decide on a watch face that I can live with, I think I've changed the face a couple of hundred times.
Samsung Pay is available on S3, the only difference is that if you bought the BT version, it'll requires that you have the phone nearby for the 4GLTE to make the payment or such. If you have the LTE model and uses that, then you should be fine.

Correction, BT version can do 10 transactions without the phone nearby for Samsung Pay. After that, you need to sync with the phone to get another 10.

I use it. Seems to be working fine for things like notifications. Although it doesn't seem to work for making calls or sending SMS from the watch.
It's crap to use on the M9 as I do quick little replies with my Smart Watch all day and not being able to do that was a huge deal breaker for me.

this is the only thing that bothers me so far. if you get a text and try to reply on the watch, it just tells you to look at your phone. hoping Samsung gets that straightened out at some point, but not counting on it anytime soon... I love this phone, but I will be checking out the s8 when it comes out...
My S3 and Mate 9 work fine...Notifications, text messaging, phone calls, Samsung Pay, etc...Work Flawless. Makes me really love me S3 and Mate 9. Especially in my office.. I have to leave my phone on the edge of the desk or no signal, an incoming call I just answer on my S3....
you have the possibility to download watch faces from Samsung Gear ? You need to log with a Samsung account user id ?
how is that working ?
Lol, I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about. My Gear S3 Classic and my Pebble Time Steel work perfectly with my Mate 9. Maybe browse the S3 forums and read up? Whatsapp works great with W-History app. I use textra for my SMS app and all replies work (hands down the best app to use for SMS/MMS - you guys really need to do your research and not use stock SMS apps - most are garbage, sorry).
Again, tinker and do your research... You'll realize your devices have much more potential than you realize.

I do too, but it works for me to do that. Then again, I don't do SMS, I do Hangouts, LINE, and email, mostly. SMS is too costly where I live, so nobody uses it.
Gear S3 (Frontier LTE) works and functions properly with my Mate 9
I have the U.S. unlocked model of the phone, which is running a slightly different firmware than the European model.
When my Gear S3 is connected, I get constant disconnect messages throughout the day, even when the phone is right next to the watch. It will work for the most part when it is connected, but I received a call the other day and my watch kept ringing after I answered the phone, which has never happened on any of my other phones.
I have also had issues with my Fitbit syncing. It will just disconnect and not reconnect. So, I think the answer depends on which model of the phone you have, at least for now.
Some question I also wish to know as I'm planning to buy Gear S3 Frontier in the future too.
1. I'm confused in people saying making call and receiving SMS don't work, and some say work, exactly which one is true? Is it that you can accept call but can't start call from the watch?
2. Any one that uses What's App, Wechat, Hangout, specially Facebook Messenger etc, are you able to do reply to these apps(like in notification area)? Like not only the quick message, to be able to type manually on watch and reply (Voice or Keyboard)?
Thanks.

Thanks opasha,
I just loaded Textra and I can recieve and send texts from my Gear S3.
The only issue with SMS is that you can't reply from the NOTIFICATION on the watch. You can, of course, send an SMS from the contact itself, but for a quick "on my way home" or "yes that sounds good" from the notification on the watch, can't do it if you have it paired with the Mate 9, whereas it worked great with the S7 Edge.
I was not able to make a call through the Gear when connected to my Mate 9 (BT Gear version).
But actually after a reset of the Gear, that I didn't do when I swapped from S6 to Mate 9, calls are working
And as it has been said, you can use a third party sms app. (Thanks to @opasha, I installed Textra which is pretty cool, even if it deleted all my sms...)

I had the S3 installed on my previous phone, a Samsung Galaxy S4 and it would go through my battery in less than 4 hours.
(M9Pro - LON-L29, B156, Android 7.0 EMUI 5.0, rooted using the TWRP, PHH superuser method by XDA's raimondomartire)
I had the install issues with the S3 software. It would install and say it was installing and never stop. So I rebooted - the app had installed. I did this for all the other related apps and all worka well. No issues.
Mine keeps telling me that it cannot connect to server. I had to sideload the app after a samsung rep told me on live chat that it would not work on the mate 9 in australia.
This gets weirder. The day after, Samsung Pay suddenly starts to work and even gets as far as to ask me to add cards. When I try to add a card, it says the card is incompatible even though my bank lists it as compatible.
Had a half hour session with a Samsung Rep who stated that as the S3 was bought here and the Phone was bought overseas (Chinese stock), the phone loaded Chinese Samsung Pay plugin and it is looking for Chinese bank servers and of course my Bank doesn't exist there.
Short of finding an Australian stock ROM and flashing it (No idea where), if appears I am totally out of luck with Samsung Pay.
Anyone have any ideas please?
