I have seen methods of restoring foxfi on KitKat but none are current. Does anyone have a working fix for foxfi on KitKat? I am rooted with exposed.

There is an Xposed tether module called "X Tether". FoxFI doesn't work under KK from what I remember.
There is also another way to get tethering to work with the built-in tethering app. You can go here to do it -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785106

Hi there,
We've just developed on Motorola Defy an app for real USB Tethering,
Can anyone test it on DroidX?
It can share your Motorola's internet connection to your pc!
It's a real tethering not a simply MODEM Tethering, you should NOT pay extra cost to your Carrier!
The app is TOTALLY FREE, thread on xda:
Moto Tethering USB
bye,
It says can't find root when I launch it.

What makes this different from pdanet? Or is it essentially the same?
Who in this forum has their GS3 rooted and using WiFi tether instead of using FoxFi?

Rooted and using Wifi Tether for Root Users. Just have to select Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE) under device profile in the app settings.
Which root did you use?

I'm using the Synergy Rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792499
It works straight after reboot, no tweaking involved.

awesome! thanks for the tip!
I'm rooted with motoroot v1.1....can I just use the unroot function of the app and then install the ota update?
Thanks

I have motoroot 1.1 also (only needed the entitlement hack) and my OTA worked with it rooted. Kept root too. Since it doesn't mess with the boot loader there wasn't a problem.

Ugh, now I'm getting a completely different story from the General forum. Someone there says you do have to unroot a Motoroot'ed device. Even says I have to use some new applications to do that. I don't see why I wouldnt be able to use Motoroot.
This is really getting confusing. Too many root methods for me to keep track of.
I certainly wouldn't want to steer you in the wrong direction, all I know is that motoroot 1.1 didn't replace the bootloader and that's why I wasn't afraid to take the OTA. The root methods that came after it did, and that's why I didn't install any of them.
Honestly, the Droid MAXX is the first Droid I've had that I didn't feel the desire to ROM... It's perfect the way it is. I had the OG, X, and Bionic prior to this phone and was constantly reflashing them with something new. The entitlement hack was all I needed for the MAXX.

Yep, I felt the same way. I use some apps that require root and I like the mobile hotspot. I don't plan on installing any custom Roms

So, I finally pulled the trigger on the update.
I was rooted with Motoroot v1.1.
I only have the mobile hotspot entitlement hack, and some apps that use root. I didnt make any other changes.
I installed the update without removing root. The update installed just fine. I have confirmed that phone still has root access and mobile hotspot still works.
How do I get rid of motoroot? I got this phone with it still in the system, but not in the drawer. I've done a factory reset and fxz. But when I try to install the app it says that the file already exists and cannot be installed.

I'm not 100% sure. That is a strange situation. It seems like someone tried to return to stock without removing the files first, maybe?
When you used the FXZ method, did you save data or do the clean install?
I did the clean install. I also tried to adb push the apk. But it says it already exists. Strange, I've never seen an app withstand a fxz, then two ota updates. I'm going to attempt the rockmymoto way tomorrow. I can't have an un rooted phone ha ha

After getting the update the USB tether no longer works. Anyone else tried?

Used pdanet with kit kat for USB tether, but unless you buy the Pro version you'll need to reset it over and over... And it's by far the slowest tethering I have used even when my phone is on 4g, not sure what's up.

I am currently still on the stock NC1 update. I was curious if anyone has tried foxfi on stock 4.4.2 before I update, or if I should just update, and root with towelroot to gain tethering capabilities. Opinions please.

I upgraded yesterday and foxfi works just fine. I had held off for a while just because of this, but took the plunge and glad I did.
Are you rooted?
I used towelroot before the 4.4.2 update and I have been pushing back the update what seems like weeks in fear that foxfi would die.
