Q&A for CF-Auto-Root

installing CF Auto Root doesn't do anything with the Bootloader really- and it does not wipe your phone. All it does is ROOT your phone so you can use Rooted APS and in the future, install Custom ROMS and a custom recovery if you want to. If you have not rooted your phone before, I strongly suggest you do a lot of reading about ROOT - what it means - benefits and so on ...

I'm very familiar with root, just wasn't sure what this method required. How does this impact Knox and the ota?

I suspect it trips Knox and prevents OTA updates, as it was the case in the past with CF Roots (and any root method, really) and I've seen posted nowhere that it will be different for the S6.

I know that CF has released his auto root for T-Mobile, I just don't know what model number file I should download. I pre ordered the phone and it's not due to be delivered until the 10th. Anyone know the model number for the T-Mobile S6?

i wouldn't root yet because its known to trip knox and that disables samsung pay. If you are more certain of what you're doing and how to fix any potential issues, then your phone model is SM-G920

i'm just looking forward to trying it at credit card machines without tap to pay. i think its fascinating that as long as there is a magnetic strip reader on a machine, that i can use my phone

Technically it is G920T - International Version is G920F

I was probably too eager - but I attempted to do CF AutoROOT today - I downloaded the correct File from ChainFire's site - confirmed that it was correct and did an MD5 check -
When I tried to odin the CF AUTO root - it started normally -- it looked like it was instlaling correctly and - thenit froze - nothing changed on the screen - just sat there.. I waited another 15 minutes and unplugged the USB Cord - but now I am stuck on the Download screen and I can't turn it off. And of course, I cannot pull the battery because that doesn't happen on this phone.
Hold on there - Just got it to turn off - I had tried three finger reset several times - it did not work anytime I tried them - held for multiple minutes - Vol Down/Home/Off button - and the Volume up with the other two for the same amount of time - I tried it one more time - this tiem using Vol Down combination - and the phone rebooted.
I was surprised I had issues - and I don't know why CF autoroot failed as it supposedly has worked for others - but I am going to be a bit more careful......(got a few more gray hairs as a result)

You need an updated version of Odin (3.10.6) as others have reported the same thing you experienced. The updated Odin solved the problem for them.

Thanks - I figured that out about 10 mnutes after posting this - I shoudl have come back and uupdated the post. Thanks though, I appreciate your trying to help.

Disable Knox
In the past, when you first launched Super SU after rooting with CF Auto Root - it would say "Knox Detected - do you want to disable"
That did not happen this time for me anyway - and I am wondering if this will be address in future releases of CF Auto Root or Super SU?

After rooting my Tmobile S6, the app com.tmobile.pr.adapt requests superuser permissions. I've denied it, but I'm curious if anyone knows what it is?

Rooting will trip Knox!

I did root the my phone after the OTA update and got stuck on the bootscreen, so i went to xda for help and saw that there are OTA images on sammobile, so i went there, downloaded the one for my phone and flashed it with odin... but that didn't work (see attachment) and my phone doesn't boot at all now... (i still get into dl mode, but that's it)
What have i done wrong???

[Q] Hard Bricked S3 Verizon 4.4.2

ON: Galaxy S3 4.4.2 Verizon(d2vzw) -->OK, I know you all may think I didn't read the other debrick threads, your wrong. I made this new thread because i HAVE tried endlessy every method of debrick on this forum and the internet, and no success. I was messing around with safestrap and decided to try and flash a rom called flashingdroid: for some reason. So i did as usual, boot into recovery(safestrap 3.75) and wipe current os and flash the new one. So i wiped my stock rom(after making a backup) and installed/flashed the new one(flashingdroid) and after seemingly a successful flash, i pressed reboot. Then it went downhill. One second after i pressed reboot, the screen flashed quickly, then shutoff, for good. I couldn't boot it or get into recovery or odin or ANYTHING. I tried the microsd method of debricking with minimal success. It will only give me one vibration, then black scree with that method. Nothing else has worked. I know this was a noob mistake somehow, but does anyone know any special tricks or something? Will a good jig maybe work? I have doubt verizon or samsung will accept it back(it was well rooted!). Please anything/anybody help! I really don't want to buy a new phone or jtag it. Thanks!:crying:

You may have read the debrick threads, but what you should have done from the beginning was read and pay attention to which forum you were in. You flashed a ROM for the International version of the S3 onto your Verizon S3. You almost certainly turned your phone into a shiny paper weight. JTAG may be your only hope. If you don't have one, check out mobiletechvideos.com. I'm not familiar enough with safestrap to know if that may have actually saved you since it is not a traditional recovery and I don't know if it touches all the partitions. In the future, research, research, and research, and pay very close attention to exactly what you are flashing onto your phone. For the Verizon S3, you should only flash ROMs from this sub-forum. And when using safestrap, you are restricted to only flashing ROMs with the same build number as what your phone is currently on in a stock condition.

Im kinda tired of my so confined locked bootloader and phone model anyways. Im going to purchase a $20 JTAG service off ebay, hope that works.

Confused About What's Possible for Modding a Stock Verizon S3
Can someone please steer me in the right direction? I have a Verizon Galaxy S3 running 4.4.2 stock. I recently rooted my phone, but I realize I am very limited as to any mods I can make due to the locked bootloader. Am I able to modify my OS in some way at all (Safestrap) to make my phone run better, or am I just too late in going about this? I've read so much on this subject, but the more I read, it seems the more confused I get. I want to be careful not to brick my phone and would love to see some precise directions on what I could do. Thanks a million for any help at all!

You should be able to install xposed but as far as mods your very limited to what you can do with it

It's hard to compare this forum with the others. I believe the people here are the most knowledgeable and, like you, very helpful. Funny enough, or not, I posed a related question on another site (initials AC), and it took over 150 views and a week later before anybody offered a reply. I've been around the web going on nearly 20 years and I'd have to agree some are more helpful than others. I find xda to be a great resource for anything android or windows phone related. And yes I agree some are a lot more helpful than others. The guys and gals still lurking around the VZW S3 forums have been here since the beginning for this phone and even though mine is no longer active I still use it daily, mostly for games but will probably never give it up. It was my first true (I'm comparing it to the HTC thunderbolt) android phone

I seem to have gotten into big trouble - I hope there's a solution. I learned all about Xposed and installed it along with about a dozen modules. Everything was working great, except the torch/flashlight... [I wanted that! ] so, I saw a download for a module on this forum to fix the flashlight... http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xposed-flashlight-fixer-fix-devices-t2867267 . Well, since doing that, I think I realized that I should have left the flashlight alone! When I tried to reboot after adding the module to xposed, I ended up in what i believe is a boot loop. The Samsung screen comes on, and then it gets stuck on the red Verizon screen. I never dreamed that a module installation could cause this; and I guess I figured if it ever happened I could get into recovery mode and restore everthing. Btw, I had done a complete backup of my phone using Titanium on my sd card.
So, here's what I can/can't do now. I can push "down-volume-button" + home + power to get to screen where you can download a cusom OS - then pushing volume-up-button goes to screen that says "Downloading...Do not turn off target!! (Nothing seems to happen from here.) - - - I cannot enter recovery mode by pressing "volume-up" + home + power keys. When I do that I get the big yellow triangle with message - System software not authorized...go to nearest Verizon store. hmmmm.... So, am I hard bricked or soft bricked? Do I have a way out? Thanks very much for any help with this!

No problem. Your soft bricked and it seems your on the latest firmware, correct me if I'm wrong
4.4.2 NE1? If so you can use Odin to flash back to stock 4.4.2 and you should be ok

I believe my phone was on 4.4.3. A file I used in my rooting process using Towelroot was I535VRUDNE1_I535VZWDNE1_VZW; I used Odin before for the root procedure, so the program of course is on my PC. Is there a thread around with instructions how to flash back to the stock firmware? Thanks again a million for getting back to me!

Instead of odin, you could try using samasung kies 3 and use its emergencey firmware recovery tool which dl's and intalls the correct, latest firmware on your device.
What you do:
Install kies 3 on your computer.
Boot to odin mode on your phone.
Click on tools in kies.
Select emergency firmware recovery option.
Follow on screen directions.

Thanks much for your replies. Is it possible for me, having had 4.4.3 on phone, to go to 4.3 instead of 4.4.2? Seems some people think that's an advantage, but I'm not sure. If I did do that, could I still run xposed?
Btw, RW, I tried using your idea, but when I was attempting to do the emergency Firmware Recovery, it asked for a computer code...??? So, that method doesn't seem to be a good route for me, but thanks for the tip!

I'm 100% sure the last update on the VZW S3 was 4.4.2 NE1. As long as you can root the phone you should be able to run xposed without an issue
And no you cannot downgrade to anything other than what your currently on

Believe-it-or-not, I still haven't been able to get my s3 back up & running. When I open Odin3 v 3.09 and try to flash the firmware 1534VRUDNE1 . . . . .tar.md5 , it doesn't successfully load to the s3. I've attached a screenshot showing the Odin screen. It show "All threads completed. (succeed 0 failed 1) - btw, when I click on the firmware file within Odin, nothing appears in the box to the right of the AP field; is that correct?

I can't open it. It's in the newest word format docx. I personally haven't had to do this myself and it's been awhile since I've used Odin. Damn MS having to have all files in there own format

Can you get into recovery?
I was able to open it once I downloaded docs by google. It's been so long since I used it though. I can't recall off hand how to use it to be honest

So as title says any luck with rooting the lollipop update yet? I updated without thinking and now I am stuck without root

from my understanding, you can still root with the Chainfire, battery pull method as long as you do the OTA or stock Loly update first.

Root and Lollipop are working fine on many devices. Also your question is pretty much meaningless without a model number. Each carrier's phone is different.

Yeah sorry I figured since I posted in this forum it was self explanatory don't mean to sound rude but yeah sprint note edge haven't had any luck rooting after lollipop update did official update as well thanks

This is the general Note Edge Q&A. Issues for every carrier go here. Sprint should root fine with CF-Auto-Root and TWRP, just as in KitKat.

Once again sorry but I must be doing something wrong after all cant seem to get it right here aee my steps boot to dl mode open odin 3.07 click pda open autoroot it fails pull out battery wait one min then go back to dl mode open another odin try flashing twrp still fails any suggestions thanks in advance

What version of TWRP are you flashing? I have not needed to wait one minute or perform any other fancy steps. I just flash TWRP immediately after CF-auto-root.

He has specified already that it is a Sprint Note Edge (SM-N915P)

Probably we're not gonna get any further since the popularity of this certain device is quite low.

AT&T models have a locked bootloader. That's an entirely different issue.

Hey guys,
I really don't know where to ask this since this phone doesn't have a forum or anything - at least that I know of. If there is one I am glad if you can point me to it.
So, is there any way to root this device? I only bought it as a second phone for listening to music but I'd really like to root it, so, do you know anyhting?

I really don't know where to ask this since this phone doesn't have a forum or anything - at least that I know of. If there is one I am glad if you can point me to it.
So, is there any way to root this device? I only bought it as a second phone for listening to music but I'd really like to root it, so, do you know anyhting?

not any news on this? i would love to root this phone and have a custom firmware. mine is full of bugs thats make it useless as a phone and camera, the only good thing about mine is the sound!

Me too want to root this phone, anyone know? Kingoroot & King Root cant root. After failed to root, it popup to ask them for help. It's around 150+ people already interested to root this phone.

This was essential for me. I have given up on purchasing this device. Based on monitoring the support page, it also seems the manufacturer is slow to develop updates. This device is starting to look like a manufacturer's experiment. I hope they do create an updated device and open to the US market...

If I were you, I'd try to flash root binaries via the recovery menu. Keep in mind, that I don't have that phone. If that fails, you can wait for the custom recovery and you can try to install binaries from there. Keep me updated.

Yes it is extremely slow development on this phone, since i did get it at the release there have been like 4-5 updates and none major update just some bugfixes that actually made the phone worse.
The support at MP is good fast answers but their not that good at helping you, they basically just copy&paste a standard Q&A.
My phone does stop vibrate occasionally, notification led is only functional sometimes, random reboots, Led flash is unusable on taking photos it does blend the lens so photos get almost black and some minor bugs, did contact support about this and they was not able to do anything due to that this is a gift from them. I had to pay for a shipping and repair myself.
I was hoping for root and custom rom, but as it seems that it will never happen i have an nice looking paperweight.

A custom rom might be a stretch due to the unique nature of the device, closed source code for the DAC, among other things. I have had trouble finding source code for this device, using code from similar devices tend to run into kernel panic issues.
I am working on a way to have flashable system images and a custom recovery on this device... and also a way to return the device completely to stock. The good news is that once you have binaries, you can use Fastboot to restore partitions. I have been able to re-flash experimental recovery builds with the original without any issue. No need to unlock or root.
And yes, root is possible. Kingoroot worked for me and I was able to successfully remove Kingo for SuperSU using the built in root swap tool in SuperSU.
I plan on starting a new thread for everything that I have for the Marshall London when I have everything working. Root, recovery, flashable ZIPs and stock images.
It may not be a device that is widely used but it definitely has a niche. I use it exclusively as an MP3 player because of its amazing sound. I also will be using it as a travel phone when I go to Europe. Shame the phone didn't find a larger market or even make it to North America because it's a very unique phone.

Im going to give those images you sent me a try today.

We have root for our US Cellular Galaxy J3's. In order to fix SuperSU within this custom ROM, I had to use FlashFire from the play store. There's an option to inject SuperSU. You can then update SuperSU and the su binary from there. Root apps are working good. Adb seems broken at the moment.

Have a new J320R4. Use the 'standard' CF-Auto-Root method. It failed. It wouldn't get past the initial splash screen (something about SEANDROID and RECOVERY). Spent probably 10 hours DLing the APK firmware. Reflashed, and all is back. So if it isn't obvious, the CF-Auto-Root for the APE firmware definitely doesn't work for the APK firmware. (Can I have a "Well, Duh!" ? ) Since I suspect all existing methods are for APE, I'll wait until root for APK is available.
