I have been using my One Plus for a few days and I noticed I couldn't use "Okay Google" unless the phone was within a few inches from my mouth. I tested this in my garage screaming at my phone till I felt like a idiot, cause my wife came in and asked "Why are you screaming at Google?" . So I started looking through CM's source and found a a commit that referenced the problem.
I searched on XDA to see if others were affected by this problem and came across this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/help/fixed-microphone-ok-google-low-t2805568 . So I made a flashable zip after testing it. Now, I'm not screaming at my phone anymore.
REQUIREMENTS:
1) Rooted
2) Recovery installed (I use TWRP)
3) Common sense
HOW TO:
1) Boot into recovery
2) Install
3) Profit
This has worked for several others with low microphone sensitively, without any problems. This is not to say nothing will happen to your device, each device differs from one another, depending on different circumstances.
**Myself or XDA are not responsible for anything that may happen to your device.

I also have problem with low microphone. Does it apply to OPO 64gb EU?
There seems to be another merge regarding this issue.
First I though they just moved the previously fixed one, but this mixer_paths.xml is bigger than the one from the previous fix.
http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/69311/
Compared the new one with the one in my Gummy Team rom, to push the latest to /system/etc, but seems they already have the new one.
Btw compared the One to my Nexus 5 and they're either the same, or the One reacted a little better to the "Okay Google" command.
What exactly does this zip do to the phone that improves voice recognition?

All it does is raise the microphone gain by replacing a XML file at the system level.

Odds are it won't ever be fixed as the noise cancelation code is closed source 3rd party code that Samsung licenses.
Playing with the mic gain settings can act as a workaround.

I'd say that's a little overzealous to state that most people have it and don't know it. Most people just plain don't have it, and they know they don't have it. Its different on a phone by phone basis, but most people do not have it, as the other people have indicated in here.
I did have it on cm10 until about a month ago, then never again since then. And yes, people are very aware that only the other line can hear it, I've talked to my wife and brothers and asked them many many times if they can hear an echo when talking to me and everyone reports that everything is fine. Even echo on speakerphone works flawless. I'm sorry for your guys' frustrations.
I have this issue too, even when not on speakerphone. When I turn the volume down it seems to fix it so it seems to me its feedback. Any ideas?
Hi,
Trying to record an audio on my nexus (lecture for example) and having some issues with it.
I start record and then leave it with screen off for an about half hour or more (plenty of space for the file). when I start to listen to the audio that I recorded, the sound is not clear with gaps.
Checked the recorded audio on my PC also and still same result - awful sound with gaps.
It is not app related because I tried already 5 or more of them (apps that work great on my old HTC desire).
I'm using stock rom (4.4.2) with Franco kernel - without modifications to it.
Any suggestions ?
Its the microphone or rather, the noise cancellation algorithm. We're hoping the next update fixes it

I did actually, most of them just gave descriptions of a small hissing sound in the background, and the only page that i've found a post similar to mine, is a article, in which people can only comment, and they describe their issue to be a bit more like hissing and not this almost rain pouring down kind of noise.
I wouldn't make another thread for something I know is already out there.
Can you make an example recording?

It's there on the google drive link.
By the way I'm on Purity ROM with r35 from franco, on ART and with Viper4android, that's about it, issue began today, in my house while I was recording a video of my dog.
That's about all there is to it. I haven't done anything else to my Nexus 5 other than that
EDIT: now I'm almost sure it's not a software issue, i tried other cameras such as Snap Camera and the Instagram camera and snapchat camera, and they all have the same noise. Unless the noise cancellation is the issue, and all these apps use the Nexus 5 noise cancellation feature.

That's really loud but is it always like that? Perhaps its a result of your environment. What if you cover over the noise canc mic?
Its not so much hissing that's the issue. The sound is cancelled when it shouldn't be

I thought I was the only one with this issue. I was gonna reap my fingers off. Wow.
Anyways, I heard CM is issuing a fix coz it has to do with the kernel.
So let's hope there's a fix.

i've noticed this as well - can't wait for a fix i hate having to type slow -.-
omg this is one of the BIGGEST issues i'm having with the phone
when i type fast it sometimes registers a swipe left or down which will either delete the last word (Swiftkey) or make the keyboard disappear
its SOOO annoying...
i really hope this is a software issue that can be addressed
i'm coming from the Nexus 5 which was super solid and accurate for typing
i even tried disabling all screen gestures as per the other OPO threads but there isnt any difference
Same here, but for me some times the app i am typing on gets minimized. Does this happen to anyone else?

Personally I've never had that but I was only using cm11s for 1 day before I moved to Paranoid android. Maybe that's a ROM issue? I've heard of someone else having the same issue as you though

I installed SwiftKey keyboard and see if it helped that issue. Sorry to inform, not by much if at all. Coming from a nexus 5 too and I thought I just wasn't adjusted to the screen size but it is happening regularly enough to make me suspicious.
this issue is becoming a showstopper for me
its like...70% accuracy or less
either it will have a phantom swipe to left or down for me, which will either delete the last word or make my keyboard disappear
i didnt have any of these issues with my N5. I have my N5 right beside me too and i type the exact same speed and its 100% accurate
something is totally off with the OPO touchscreen and i REALLY hope its a software related issue..

SwiftKey only helps the issue because it is better than Google keyboard at correcting errors when you type. The screen still had the same issue.
Surely hope this is a kernel driver issue that can be fixed. It has been noted by many people and apparently they are working on it or it has been at least acknowledged. I would be surprised if they we would let these phones go out faulty like this without knowing there was a resolution that could be reached....

I thought it was my own personal error this whole time. Hope it can be fixed with a software update!
Guys, please help us all out and vote on this issue in JIRA to make it as visible as possible to the CM devs. Create a JIRA account, and then on the right, Vote for the issue and then watch it as well. Also, if you can, comment on it too.
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-55
There are a LOT of people complaining about this issue, and many of us are nervously waiting to find out if it's a hardware or software issue. I'm personally hoping it's a kernel fix that needs to be done on CM's side, or it's something that can be fixed with a firmware update from JDI.
BTW - for more visibility , I found this official JIRA ticket for the issue:
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-55
I hope it gets more exposure. I'm surprised more people haven't complained about this because it's awful.
It's really the only major issue for me though, everything about the phone has been pretty great
*EDIT
oh lol, looks like someone beat me to it haha
I am actually relieved to see other people experiencing this. I use Swiftkey almost exclusively, installed it first thing, and I thought they must have done something, because I have had to focus on slowing down how quickly I type. I am bummed to know it's my phone but relieved to know it's not just me.

No one said its a kernel issue on JIRA. I was the one who posted the issue first on XDA and someone replied to me and took the initiative to put it on JIRA. I've been following this from day 1, and the CM devs said they're looking into it. Never said if it will be fixed or not. We can only hope.
Also please notice the CM devs may have accidentally merged two issues into BACON-55. Please only talk on BACON-55 if your issue is related to fast typing and the multitouch issues.

There is no one anywhere that will say its the 100% safe to use mod like this. Not even the tech support from the manufacturer itself. If that would be 100% safe for the speaker or the phone itself, it would have it implemented. The sound is, how to say, its not real stereo, it separates some higher frequencies to call speaker and lower to phone speaker. You can hear the difference. I tested it with some songs that have moving stereo sound to make sure.
I personally leave songs playing over night but it does not harm my speaker
100% safe from my side
you test and use it...... your own way
Any way of getting true stereo separated sound and not only separated by some frequencies?

Way to keep an old thread alive. Go here https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/themes-apps/mod-surround-sound-testers-t3252659 for a different kind of sound. But what you're asking, no, it's not possible. The earphone speaker is far less powerful than the lower speaker, so it wouldn't be able to play all the frequencies and it would also have to play them at a lower volume to avoid distortions.
