Here's the deal–I'm a graphic designer who found myself sans job, and have been looking to do some different kind of work to keep from going insane. I have thought about trying to prog my own apps, but java is still a bit over my head. So if there are any devs that could use some design work for apps, wallpapers, or whatever, PM me and we'll go from there. Right now, im thinking this service would be free of charge...
If you really want to, you can even check out my past work here.

I agree with pushing the Android standard forward. Some of the best apps out there look like total trash.

Preach on brother. AND it really pisses me off that having a grid of rounded rectangle icons with reflections is seen as the pinnacle of mobile design today.

Suggestion: make mock-up's of some popular apps with better layout and post them. You may get some attention and create a buzz.

This depends on how far you are looking to go. Just icons, full UX?
Perhaps a mockup of a file browser (root explorer for example) would be a good start. They are all quite rudimentary in layout/design but most function well.
Again, this depends on what aspect of design you are talking about.

Ah nice.
I would definitely overhaul a client app that has a TON of downloads in the market. Most devs have zero understanding about layout, nor do they care. File browers/explorers, chat clients, irc clients, etc are all big time offenders.
Just look at the top downloaded free apps and go for one that you actually use. By selecting one you use, the flow through the app is something you are familiar with and fixing/redoing the experience becomes personal and understood.
That's how I would go about it anyways

This is a key part, IMO. Great advice from deprecate.
Also, FYI - I just wanted to let you know that your portfolio is very impressive. As a fellow UI designer, you've got some skills.

Hey, thx for the kind words. Sometimes you can forget what you have accomplished inn the past when times are tough.
I just know that I've used the great stuff you guys have made, and I really want to give back to the community. Since I cant prog worth a damn, graphics is gonna have to be it.
I hope you are able to do some work with Android developers. They really need it.
Get the AppAware app to check out what is most popular and make som mock-ups of those. I'm thinking Twitter (though there are a couple of good ones), RSS reader, Dialer, File explorer, Media player (podcast streamer, video player, youtube! oh good it
s so baaad). Or you could make a base interface that can be used on several different apps.
Right now, I'm looking at Andchat with zer0day. When/if we find an improved layout for him,I'll post it up like I did with the Pandora concept.
How about looking into Meta Morph and theming?
Since everyone wants their phone to look different than the next guys!
You could do some theming of your phone, post screen shots, and get some more buzz that way.
Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.
I'm a UX designer and am willing to help.

I'm looking for beta-testers now, in order to refine my application and maybe find bugs.
This launcher is described and downloadable on my web site dystroy.org/stripad/
In a few words, it is designed to be efficient and greatly minimize the time needed to find and launch your applications (or to uninstall them).
If you could take the time to visit, test and comment this launcher...
[screenshots not possible for a forum newcomer...]
Hey I had a look at the screenshots, what an Awesome innovative idea! .
I wouldn't want to replace my home screen with it though. Maybe you might want to get into contact with some launchers (Launcher Pro etc) about making it an option to replace the app drawer with your StriPad?
I love this launcher!
I'll test this. This is my new favorite launcher. I've been looking for something like this ever since I went Android. Your launcher is a welcome change.
I love that it's only 63KB, fast, minimalist and low on resources.
I hate having a 1-2MB app just to launch other apps.
I don't use widgets or screens.
I had a FC while holding down a strip to change the color.
I also only see half of the color wheel when changing colors. I have a low resolution phone. 320x240
Checking the Processes I only see
Process CPU Mem.
system_server 129% 0Ko
com.google.process.gapps 129% 0Ko
com.android.phone 129% 0Ko
Took a look at it, not a bad idea, still rather launcher pro.
Good Idea.
But hard to use and could be prettier.
But I am looking forward for updates.
Awesome idea, but I use too many widgets for it to replace my current launcher. I'll be checking back for updates
Awesome work bro!
Thanks for your replies !
@lunigma : can you reproduce the problem and get me the stack-trace ? Do you know how to do it ? What you see on the process list is strange. What device do you have and with what version of Android ?
@TuRDMaN : if enough people are interested I'll continue my work. I'm currently working on an integration of the widgets (the stripes could be all retracted to the left, leaving the background to widgets).

Sounds cool, can't wait to check it out!
The APP is funny, cool man, great work, i will still looking in this thread for up's.
OK.
I must admit that I'm not any more able to find the time and motivation to work on this project.
So, except if I find people willing to develop it (as open source), I won't finish it and I'll remain the sole user...
hey this is cool are you going to pt it in market place???

Would you consider making this into an "app drawer" replacement? Or maybe 2 versions. Full launcher version and app drawer replacement version. I think it would be an awesome app drawer. But I personally would not want to replace my launcher with this. It is a great idea though. and thanks for sharing.

Please don't drop this! I love the concept and the fact that it's so conservative on resources.
I'm using Stripad as main Launcher and Quickdesk for some widgets.
There are two flaws, though. On my Samsung Spica, it displays sometimes 8, sometimes 9 bars. The processes windows becomes empty after 3 or 4 seconds.
Again, I think this app is too good for you to drop. Please reconsider.

Not able to download the file now, but any chance someone can post screenshots?
Fantastic
Its fantastic and one of the most lovely launchers till today, As I am a graphic UI designer, I hope I can do wonders with this Launcher and its colour effects.
Thanks.
I'm still tweaking these (landscape mode is a wreck) and I have zero idea how to upload these in an easily manageable way.
Let me know if you're interested in more or have any suggestions.
If people actually want the folders to add to their BW data folder while I work out the kinks, let me know and I'll post them.

they look nice, but i think it would be better if they were all one color like the silver ones
I've already tried the single-color thing, it doesn't really look good on anything other than grey/silver.
I'll have a ton more colors as I work the kinks out.
This one's a bit better, imo.
More ICS-looking, whatever that means.

Once I get the landscape mode tuned-up I'll post them all.
The clocks look amazing I hope I can download them soon.
I think I'm done tweaking, now I have no idea how to package it as a "skin" (settings and all...)
Once I get it figured out, I'll post packages.
In the meantime, here's the "final" in black (my favorite, so far):
Argh, so this is turning out to be a nightmare simply because of Beautiful Widgets itself.
I've created these to look great with MY settings, but any time I change anything it just looks wrong. This widget is definitely not up to the task.
I use Apex with a grid of 5x4 and use the 4x2 Super Clock widget, and it looks great, BUT, if I use the standard 4x4 it stretches and looks bad. If I change the margins, it stretches and looks bad. If I look at it the wrong way, it stretches and looks bad. I also can't embed any of the clock's settings (text color, alphas, etc) into the skins, so color options are basically nil.
Does anyone know of a skinnable clock widget that has a 100% static size no matter what home settings you use?
Hoping there might be one or two of you out there that would be willing to help or teach me how to create themes that can be applied using theme chooser. Also I have a boot animation that I have made from a video clip that needs some tweaking. Currently choppy and sluggish.
If your interested please PM me.
If you check in the main android forum there are several guides on how to make those themes.
I'll keep looking. So far all the ones that I have found require a knowledge of xml which i am still trying to learn.

You can make a theme on the Go Launcher website... It requires you to have ether Google Chrome or Firefox..
the only issues that I have found with this website is that you can't change how the notifcation bar stuff shows up.. like if I wanted to make the battery look different than the stock one... I can't do that on the website.
Go Launcher Theme Factory
http://gotheme.3g.cn/golauncherthemefactory/main/jspController/welcome.html?locale=en_US
I have been using it to kind of organize the images that I want to put in the theme... I will be themeing a Rom when I actually start the process but I have been using it to load in the backgrounds and the icons that I want to use and seeing what looks good. Once I find what I think looks good then I move the files into a folder that I name and I make sure that the name on the theme in theme factory for quick reference so I can see what it looks like.
Theme Factory hint... if You make a theme that is good enough and submit it they will sell it in the Market!..... opps... Play Store.
Uot kitchen is the best I've come across.
Just follow the directions and play with it ,learning as you go is the best way.
Although you can't theme app icons, you can theme everything else including battery to windows and dividers, fonts, animations, status bar,etc.etc.
Since 2016, I have been developing a habit tracker because I saw there were many theoretical books but there were not so many tools to help us get started.
What is Habitify?
Habitify is a multi-platform habit tracker aimed at helping people form, track and measure new habits.
Why is Habitify "for Devs"?
After many interviews with my users, I came to realize Habitify is used mostly by devs, engineers or designers. The pain point of devs is sitting all day at the screen and forgetting to do important habits such as working out, drinking water or meditating. So I focus on tweaking Habitify to match devs' preference:
- Habitify is available on both mobiles, laptops, and watches, so technically it can remind devs wherever they are, whenever they want.
- I have integrated X-callback for automation purpose.
- I also simplify the design and make it tap-and-go. Devs are busy, so am I
Download
You can check the app on habitify.me or download Habitify on the Google Play Store. As I'm a newbie I cannot put the direct link here... so sorry about that.
Since I'm new to Android (been an iOS dev as a starter), I'm not sure if the app's design and function have this "Material Design" feeling, so can you guys share your thoughts and feedback? I just discovered Xda and I believe this is a good learning curve for me.
I'm happy to provide the Premium version if anyone is interested.
Hey mate!
I really like the app you've created. Im not a dev or a designer, but i use it for my personal stuff.
I really really love using the app, It has all the stuff neatly laid out and it does correspond to material design but still has a bit of the iOS flair.
I think you have just ported this app from iOS becuase the i've seen mentions of iTunes in the app.
If you fix these bugs, i think this will be a great app.
A small suggestion too - Create an AMOLED theme and maybe charge for that? Dark theme is really essential these days and i dont think it must be pay to use.
Hey mate!
Hey mate,
Thanks for your feedback! Yeah, I port the app from iOS and since the app does exist on other platforms, I decided to leave iTunes there.
What do you mean by the Amoled theme? Is it different from the dark theme the app already has? If it's that important then we should charge for it, right?

Dark theme is where apps choose a darker color palette like yours does. The dark Blue shade.
Amoled theme is having a pure black color scheme. Everything menu, submenu in black.
I said it because, many apps in android have a basic dark theme and pay to use AMOLED theme.
Ah I see. But why should we focus on Amoled theme instead of Dark Blue? What if the Dark Blue looks better on some specific apps?

It does yes.
But AMOLED themes help have that consistency that people love to have on their phone.
I love your new app and I would like to have a promo code if it is possible to discover all the possibilities of the application
