[Q] Turning off camera shutter - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

So I know in previous versions, you can turn off the camera shutter by renaming the shutter.ogg to like shutter.ogg.bak or whatever, etc etc.
Well I'm on 4.4.2 and doing this doesn't seem to make a difference. I've renamed the file and it still makes the camera shutter sound. It is under system/media/audio/ui/shutter.ogg
Is it located somewhere else on 4.4.2?

[Q] Disable shutter sound entirely?

Mainly an issue I found using 4.0.4. When muting media volume completely, the phone still makes a shutter noise unless you put it on silent mode.
Is there anyway to just disable it altogether by editing system files or whatnot? Or an app or something that can do it? Or reassigning the sound to something less attention grabbing? I usually take picture of slides during class time and it would be annoying for my phone to keep making shutter noises every two seconds for the slides I need.
Thanks!
If you have a headphone jack plugged into it, even if the wires are cut. I belive it silences everything. You can try that. Otherwise CyanogenMod roms have that option built into them. I'm sure plenty of other roms do too.
I'm running AOKP and if it's on silent there's no shutter noise.. I think
just delete the shutter and recording .ogg files.
located in /system/media/audio/ui

That worked. I just renamed it to whatevername.ext.old instead of renaming it.
Thank you!

[Q] How to turn off camera shutter sound

Hi,
Please move this if it's in the wrong spot. I tried to reply to the existing post but it told me new people with under 10 posts had to post in here first.
Original post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770335
The current software version on the HTC One M8 does not have the camera shutter option in the camera options.
I have edited the default.xml file however I do not have read/write access in that area.
What do I need to edit to give me that? I need to turn the shutter sounds off as it drivers me crazy. The lower you turn the sound the louder the shutter noise becomes. Put it on silent or DND and it's very loud.

Disable Camera Shutter Sound on H950

When I take a photo, it plays a shutter sound. How can I disable it?
I've tried going into system/media/audio/ui and renaming cam_snap_0.ogg and camera_click.ogg, but it has no effect.

How to turn off the camera shutter sound?!? (NOT IN SETTINGS)

Hey, i want to turn off the camera shutter sound when you make a picture or a video but i dont have this option in my settings (cause its not allowed in my country). I have the unikernel and have root. I DONT WANT TO USE ANOTHER CAMERA APP!!! So i navigated to /system/media/audio/ui and i clicked every audio file and i deleted all the sounds that had to do with the camera app and now it doesnt make any sounds when i make a picture or a video ONLY WHEN I MAKE A SELFIE WITH THE FRONT CAM IT STILL MAKES THE SHUTTER SOUND, BUT THE SOUND ISNT IN THE DIRECTORY!!! I only have this problem on the frontside cam when i make a picture!! What can i do to remove the shutter sound for the front cam???
Im on 5.1.1 and i have the unikernel stock and i have a sm-g920f
have you tried CSC expert?. I think it has the option to turn it off. Its in the playstore.
Thank you very much!! i changed the value and deleted the app after reboot and its still in the menu this way i didnt need to change the others.xml file manually

Hi NZnewbie
FYI, I've successfully used CSC Expert for enabling the shutter sound menu option for my Samsung Galaxy S6 SM-G920I (Aust.) exactly as you have prescribed (Lollipop v5.1.1)
Many thanks.
Hi TheKingOfQueens
Thanks for asking the question.
I too changed the audio files believed to be obvious (via: /system/media/audio/ui )
Cam_Start.ogg
Cam_Stop.ogg
camera_click.ogg
Shutter.ogg
Shutter_multiple.ogg
VideoRecord.ogg
................by adding ".bak" file extension at the end and "******_" at the start of the file names.
I didn't delete them.
Immediately, the shutter sound for the REAR camera SEEMED to stop.....but on RARE occasions the shutter sound would occur.
Unfortunately, camera shutter sound for rear BURST SHOTS always happened and I can confirm the same for the FRONT CAMERA shutter sound (I was unaware of this one until you mentioned).
Weird........
CSC Expert is the way to go once and for all!
Many thanks.
The developer deserves a medal or some recognition to encourage him to hopefully continue his good work.
Regardless, I would be interested to know WHY the camera was still making the the numerous shutter sounds even after the renaming of the audio files (pre-implementing CSC Expert).
You know you could just put your phone on silent right?

Sure and funny enough I discusssed it today with a friend but the "Shutter sound" camera menu option only mutes camera sounds whilst providing full "alert" audio for everything else.
"Volume down" also achieves this but taking photos of recent neighbourhood events would make this a chore.
Shame I didn't know about this CSC fix earleir.

how to silence the camera's shutter sound

Has anyone been able to quiet the shutter sound?
Without root, it is impossible to rename a file or even locate it, and the built-in camera application doesn't have many settings.
Setting sound profile on vibrate only does the trick for me.

Like the other poster above stated, put your sound file to vibrate mode and you won't here the shutter sound. This is true for both Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and 6.0 (Marshmallow), as I've done so before.
