[Q] Very strange problem with GS5 wireless charging - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I received my wireless charging receiver today, so I installed it and tried it out on my existing (From S3) Qi charging pad. Seemed to work OK.
Tonight I put the phone on the pad and it starts playing "Over the Horizon" from the speaker. Over and Over again. The only way to get it to stop is to re-boot, but if I put in on the charging pad, it plays that damn song again.
I am rooted, completely stock (including recovery) using towel root. I manually replaced the 2 framework files for the hotspot fix, which is all I really care about. Knox is not tripped.
I have used root explorer to rename all instances of "Over_the_Horizon.mp3" to 'notOver_the_Horizon.mp3' including the one labled as media preview. (Samsung must be very proud of this track, I count at least 6 instances on the device.)
I have renamed the charging connected sound to *.bak, and I get no sound from a usb charger, its just the wireless charger.
There is nothing in the task bar to indicate something is playing music. There is no task to kill that I can find. I have used the stock recovery to clear caches, didn't work. Volume control has no effect until sound is off.
This is driving me a little nuts.
The temp solution is to turn off all sound, but there has to be a better way, so I'm asking. I'm sick of this song. Please Help.

Solution Found
OK, here is what I did to solve this problem.
Re-flashed NE5. This restored all my system/media/audio/ui files. I had renamed some and deleted some because I don't like them.
The trick is that if the 'WirelessChargingStarted.ogg' file is not found because of deletion or even renaming, the default file (that damned) 'Over_the_Horizon.ogg' will play. Then because it's an error condition, it will keep playing forever, or until re-boot, whichever happens first.
So, I renamed a file that is not obnoxious (Pen_att_note1.ogg) and renamed it 'WirelessChargingStarted.ogg after renaming the original to .bak. This has solved my problem.
I have re-rooted with towel root and reinstalled the hotspot hack and all is well. When I charge my phone, I now do not wake my wife.

[Q] "media" sounds gone, all others work fine

Not sure what might cause this.
I'm running Andromeda 1.1 (but this started yesterday on Andromeda 1.0), ursa-minor kernel, ZKP1 modem.
All my notification sounds, ringtones play just fine, but anything related to 'media' won't play. This means sounds in games, any music or videos, any system sounds like menu clicks or phone keypad tones -- nothing has sounds associated with it, not even during bootup animation. I've tried pressing on the speaker, tapping the phone with & without batter on my hand, but none of that has worked.
It did this once before for around 5 minutes a few days ago, but then the sound came back after I put it into airplane mode & back out.
I'm hoping there's an answer before I flash back to stock to see if that's it.
SGS cappy i-897
build 1008
bought it 10/10, so 90 days is past, might see if I have a year on it from att, get it replaced.
Thanks in advance!
**EDIT**
reset to stock with ODIN (3 click fix), master clear, ODIN again, then factory reset on the phone, media/system sounds still not audible.
**EDIT 2**
Fixed. I happened to plug my speakers into the headphone jack to see if they worked, and lo & behold they did! After I unplugged them, all the media/system sounds work again. Flashed on a new rom, everything's right with the world again.

[Q] Car Kit popping out everytime I install a new rom

So something weird happened with my Inspire where it somehow got unlocked in my pocket and opened a few programs. One of them was car kit, and even though I kept exiting the program it still pops up. I tried unticking the box where it says open automatically but it still didnt work. I resorted to clearing my cache and wiping data and flashing a new ROM, but the weird thing is the first thing I see when the phone first boots up is the car kit mode. Also another thing that changed with my phone is the way the backlight behaves. It just turns on all of a sudden randomly even if it is unlocked. Also what I like about the Inspire is its feature of dimming the backlight when it is near your ear during a phone call and returns to its normal brightness when its not. This feature is also gone. Has anybody experienced this sort of problem? Is there a way around it? Like bringing ALL the system files to ABSOLUTE default then flashing again?
I would definitely run the RUU to stock, then rerun the hack kit and see what happens.
So I got the car kit to stop opening all the time, but the problem of the backlight still persists. But another problem is the phone backlight turns on when the phone is moved just a LITTLE bit. Its definitely annoying me, since it is a major battery drainer.
PS. I just found out that it only happens when it is plugged in.
I just discovered something strange about my Inspire: I have an adapter to step the size down from mini-USB to micro-USB. When I use one particular charger, the phone switches to the Car Panel as soon as I plug it in. I've got no idea. Phone is completely stock, not rooted. I originally sideloaded a Swype keyboard but deleted it and installed the Slide-It after I realized the Swype would quit working every time the publisher issued a new beta.

[Q] I think my phone has insomnia.

So here's the deal.
Whenever I lock the phone, it always ALWAYS wakes up for no apparent reason, even if I manually put it to sleep with a short power button press. Its really annoying since I have to charge the phone more often than necessary now.
Is there a way for me to look for the cause of this? It all started when the car kit application keeps on popping up when I move the phone slightly. After I changed the settings + did a full reset (Stock --> custom ROM), it was okay but the backlight still is waking up.
HELP!

Have you tried to remove the car kit app completely? you can always put it back if this is not the cause... But if this is when it all started, this would be where I start.
I don't exactly don't know how to remove car kit completely.
I searched around google and came across this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619859
which describes the same symptoms as mine (Insomniac phone, Car Kit opening immediately after flash, Auto-speakerphone during calls, etc.) and they link it with a hardware problem, specifically with the microusb port.
The reasoning is that SOMETHING is causing the 2 circuits to short together (eg. rust or dust. yes, dust.) that makes it think that it is on car mode.
I'm not entirely sure if moisture had come in my phone, but I just cleaned it right now with some compressed air and I will report any changes.

If you want, you can try this to remove the app.

Update:
Cleaned out the USB port with a pipet tip, blew some air in it:
Never had a problem since.
AH-MAY-ZING.
Update: Phone acted up again. Tried cleaning without any luck after.
Sigh, I guess I'll research more. Can anybody help me? I know its a microUSB issue but I don't know what to do. Can HTC replace my handset?
DId you ever fix this problem? I am having the same problem and its really pissing me off.

[Q] CM7 Home button opens clock app, calls go direct to speakerphone

It's apparently a semi common problem.
My Wildfire running CM7 will always open up the clock app when I press the home button. Freezing the clock stops this happening.
Similarly, when I answer or make a call, the speakerphone is automatically activated. From what I can tell, the phone thinks it's docked, and indeed, if I set the phone to make a sound when it's docked, you do hear the notification.
If I plug in the power cable and wiggle it around, I can get it to activate/ deactivate this, but I dont have this problem at all if I go back to the Sense backup I have. (Should note, I've cleaned out the power socket with all manner of stuff, to no avail (thought it might be lint etc))
Basically, is there any way I can stop the phone from thinking it's docked/ just remove the dock facility entirely?
I found a thread somewhere that said something about changing the name of a dock related apk somewhere, but I can't for the life of me find it again.
Thanks!
I would start with a fresh install if you haven't tried that already.
Hit that thank button if I helped!
Yup, should've mentioned I've done that numerous times with different versions of stable CM7. Did a full wipe and cleared the dalvik cache each time too.
The problem doesnt happen until the phone has fully loaded i.e. the home button works normally for the first 10 seconds or so of the phone being on. Then I hear the notification to say the phone has been docked, and the problems begin.
Have you thought of uninstalling the docking software, and then rebooting?
Hit that thank button if I helped!
Well that's what I'm asking - how exactly do I do that?
I would download this,
http://www.apkapplications.com/2011/07/root-uninstaller-pro-apk-v121-download.html
Then look for the docking .apk
Hit that thank button if I helped!
Well I used that to freeze the clock before and that worked to stop the home button going to the clock, but the speakerphone issue remained.
There was no docking apk as far as I could tell.
Okay, I've "solved" this, and I feel compelled to share how I did it, since EVERY thread on this on every forum is unresolved.
My problem was something in the USB jack - I thought I had cleaned it properly, but after some WD40 and jamming a paperclip in there, I no longer get the problem...at least for now.
I still find it bizarre that I never had this problem with the stock sense ROM (and didnt have it when I reverted back to my backup of it), but what can you do!?

Glad you got it fixed!
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
same problem here, tried everything, reflashing, data wipe, cache wipe.
and same as OP sense based roms do not show this symptoms.
I have this problem with CM7 and almost on every rom based on it.
I searched in many places, but there aren't any positive solutions.
please help.
P.S.- cleaning the USB port also didn't work for me..
I found a way to disable dock mode. there is an app called NoDock which disables the dock mode at OS level.
It requires root permission to disable the dock. so your phone must be rooted.
unlike apps like DockNothing this actually does the job.
no more auto speakerphone modes, no more home button taking to clock app.

[Q] Alarm not sounding anymore

I rooted my gear 2 and am now able to use my own ringtones and notifications without any problem. I pushed my own files (*.ogg) into /opt/share/settings/Alarms/ and renamed them to Alarm_TickTac.ogg, Alarms_on_call.ogg and Alarm_TickTac.wav (for a wav file). I got no sound at the end of a timer or an alarm set on the phone, so I deleted my own files and pushed the originals back. I still get no sound at the end of a timer or on an alarm set on the phone. Ringtones and notifications still work fine, but no alarm sounds. I've checked and rechecked the spelling of the filenames (including capitalization) and the permissions (ls -la) and everything SEEMS to be right. It just no longer works. I searched here and I spent half the night googling and trying to find similar problems and then I decided to just ask here. Anyone got any ideas? I DID want to be able to set my own sound for the alarm, but now I'd be happy just to get any sound back.

Thanks. I Did the first part of the guide (creating the sdb folder in the root of C and downloading those files. Then executing the batch file and it seemed to go fine. But then I moved to the second part - when I tried to run install-alarms.sh, it said command not found. It said the same for setup-folder.sh. And still no alarms sound. Of course, there's no files there now to sound. I deleted what was in /opt/share/settings/Alarms/ .
You mustn't be running tizen mod. The .sh scripts are included in his rom

I'm sure you're right. I had a Gear 1, and I DID run the tizen mod and had no problems like his. I just hadn't realized that there were more mods out there. Yeah, actually it's named Root GEAR 2 R380XXU0BNE5.rar. So, I'm thinking I should probably just run the tizen mod. It should install right over this one, shouldn't it?
Well I just tried flashing with TizenMod-Rom-SM-R380-NE5-by-Skin1980-v3.0 and Odin 3.09, and after a couple of seconds, I got the message "<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)". I don't know where to go from here. A factory reset you think? There's nothing I'm attached to on that watch yet. Certainly nothing I can't redo quickly. I only got this watch Saturday.
Update: The watch isn't even ringing when I get a call. The notifications work - at least when I select them they play, but I just happened to be looking at the watch and I got a display of an incoming call, but there was no sound. Notification sounds DO work. But other sounds don't?
I did a factory reset and then tried the tizen mod with Odin again, and got exactly the same result. Failed after a few seconds. So there must be something there that didn't get reset that tizen can't mod. But now I have alarm sounds. But I have those obnoxious camera sounds and I can't customize ringtones or notifications. Maybe I should flash back to the original ROM and then do the tizen mod? Any idea where I'd get the original factor ROM?
Update: It works fine. I shouldn't do this when I'm sleep deprived. After a factory reset, USE debugging had gotten turned off again, so of course it failed. I fixed it, put the watch in download mode, ran odin and flashed it, and now I have my custom ringtones, notifications AND alarms and everything works great. Many thanks!
Oh sorry for some reason I didn't see these posts. Til now. Yeah reseting always disables usb debugging. To save time next time you reset. I've created an aio batch file to flash everything in 1 go. Head over to the tizen original development forum and take a look
