PGS subtitle from BluRay rip - MX Player

Hi there,
first of all - kudos on an excellent app. I've found a tiny flaw in the implementation of PGS subtitle overlays. if you rip a 1080p Bluray disc to a 720p mkv file, the PGS subtitles are preserved untouched, but they still contain the 1080p screen position coordinates. When you view the video, the subtitle appears aligned to the bottom right. All of the geometry controls for the subtitle work except position. You can scale it up and down but it just grows from the bottom right corner. VLC does this as well.
It would be great if you could tweak it so the the position / centering function worked for PGS subtitles when they're used on resized video.
let me know if you need a test sample.
thanks again for the app

Hi guys - thanks for this.
Sadly as far as I can tell in this development version and the new shipping version, PGS subtitles don't display at all....
any ideas?

Hmm. Did you turn on pgs subtitle from subtitle track selection menu?
And then would you give me a sample video clip? All my videos having PGS subtitle works with no problem.

Ah - updated again. All seems good now!
Mini - request - when you pinch zoom the video, the subtitles resize and can disappear off the bottom. Can they be overlaid downstream of the zoom? Cheers!

The video is running in background, but I can`t disable text.

Any ideas?
Thank you.

Hi
I have the exact same problem. Tested on Galaxy tab and S4 streaming from my dm800se clone. Worked perfectly up until latest MX Player update. Can stream without problem using PC. Please investigate.

Have you tried unchecking subtitle track on the subtitle selection menu/window?
There is a speech balloon button on the upper right corner of the playback screen. Click it and uncheck subtitle track.
Also you can enforce subtitles not to be displayed on the startup by unchecking Settings > Subtitle > Enable subtitles or Enable embedded subtitles.

Need suggestion for MX player pro and MKV with embedded subtitle

Hi,
I tried to search and look around in this forum and still cannot resolve my problem.
I just installed MX Player pro. I ripped and made one MKV movie file from bluray with embedded subtitles in the file.
I tested the file with my TV and DUNE HD player and also tested this file on my computer with XBMC, VLC media play. The movie can be played smoothly and I can control, select, enable, or disable subtitles as usual.
However, when I loaded the file to my Samsung Note 8, MX player pro can play movie smoothly and fine. The only problem is that there is no subtitle shown, although I selected or enabled subtitles.
I also tried enable and disable in Setting > Subtitle > Enable Subtile and Setting > Subtitle > Enable Embeded Subtiles , but it doesn't help.
Please suggest.

Hi bleu8888, do you mean the mini button on the right corner? There are H/W, subtitles, audio.
Yes I checked it. I enabled one, two, or sometimes even all of them, but no subtitle is shown.
Note: I just tested the file with "VLC for android" and it works as expected. All subtitles work fine.
Thus, I guess there must be some missing or incorrect configuration in my MX Player Pro. Please help.

Hmm, pgs subs shouldn't generally cause a problem... as bleu requested, mind sharing your file somewhere? If the file's big, could you clip out a few minutes and share that instead?

Hi bleu8888
I installed it. It looks like an updated part, doesn't it? Anyway, it works as expected now.
Thank a lot!
You can use Avdshare Video Converter to removing subtitles from MKV with the help of an MKV Subtitle Remover named MKV Subtitle Remover.

[Feature Request] Option to show imbedded subtitles in file

Hi guys, I'm currently watching something which I know already has embedded subtitles within the file. But when I go to the "Subtitle" option I only see options to find subtitle files (which doesn't help me because the srt is already embedded) or online subtitles, screenshot is pictured. An option to automatically show/switch off showing imbedded subtitles if it has them would be great. Cheers.

MX Player will automatically detect embedded Subtitles & external Subtitles ( if the name is same as video). Can you provide a bug report or sample file..?

sub/idx subtitle position issues.

Hi,
I have some sub/idx subtitle files created for 720p videos and when I load them on 1080p video, they are too big, so I edited .idx file
from
Code:
# Original frame size
size: 1280x720
# Origin, relative to the upper-left corner, can be overloaded by aligment
org: 0, 0
to
Code:
# Original frame size
size: [COLOR="Red"]1920x1080[/COLOR]
# Origin, relative to the upper-left corner, can be overloaded by aligment
org: [COLOR="red"]640, 360[/COLOR]
The results are.. like this.
So font size got smaller and looks really good on 1080p, but mx players doesn't seem to read the position part. It still displays on the left of the screen even though I edited it.
On my pc, I checked that the video player I use (potplayer) shows the subtitles on the correct position(bottom-center) with the edited idx file.
Could you please look into this issue?
Thanks in advance.

Can you share the original & edited subs?
Generally, MX Player automatically scales when there is a resolution change.

When the 720p subtitle is loaded on 1080p, I think it should be scaled down, when full screen, to be shown as the same size as the one on 720p. However, the font size gets bigger on 1080p. And this isn't just mx player though. I think that's how all the video player works with the .sub file. And not reading the position part in .idx file is not only mx player but also vlc and kodi as a matter of fact. On PC, I tested only Potplayer and it worked well with the edited .idx file.
Hope MX player does as well.
Attached .sub files in both zip files are the same and I edited just .idx file in "1080p.zip".
Thanks.

Hi,
Basically, vobsub is a bitmap based subtitle format. So, the trick you have used is not supported by the most of the vobsub renderers. We have checked some other players as well. The behaviour is same. If your intention is just to reduce the size, MX Player already has an option for you. Open menu > Subtitle > settings & Reduce the scale. It will scale down the subtitle sizes of bitmap based subtitles.

Thank you so much!
I didn't notice there's a scale option in the settings. I always used the size option for .srt files so when it made no difference with .sub file, I tried to edit the .idx file.
The scale option works perfectly. Thanks again!

No video / black screen on philips android TV

Hi,
I just bought a Philips 32PFS6402 Android TV (version QM164E.).16.102.24).
Unfortunately the default video player, didn't have the possibility to adjust the subtitles, so I had to look for alternatives. Your MX player was highly recommended and the features I was looking for seems to be in place (remember where you stopped a video stored on USB and continue from that point on the next time. And adjust the timing of the subtitles while playing the video.)
so far so good. But unfortunately, not all video's are shown correctly. For some video's I only see a black screen. There is audio and ther are subtitles, but the screen stays black.
The codec info for the specific file:
MPEG-4 Video (XVID)
1920*800
Strange thing is, I can play the same movie using the default player.
Any suggestions?
thanks in advance,
Matthijs

First of all, thanks for your reaction. How do I collect a bug report? I didn't see any options for that.
For you info. I tried Kodi today as well and experienced the same problems. No video image, while there is sound and there are subtitles. I find it to be very strange, since the same movie does play in the default player (no idea which one that is).
Today the movie I tested yesterday on MX Player, resulted in some kind of freeze. no response what so ever.
thanks,
Matthijs

Based on the information you have shared, it seems that your device's hardware-accelerated decoders are buggy or broken. Request you to tap on the HW button on the playback screen and check other decoders. It may work for you.
