[Q] I'm stuck on a bootloop ! (C2/Ville) - HTC One S

Hello guys !
Today i decided that i want to unlock the bootloader for my htc one S C2. Managed to do that and managed to root it too. I installed TWRP (version 2.6.3.0) using a guide made by our firend, Bipe ( link here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2175411 ) flashing it from my PC.
All went incredibly good ! Then,i decided that i should flash a new ROM.
I downloaded VIPER ROM and transfered it to my phone via USB. Now...silly me...decided to FULLY WIPE all the data on my phone, using TWRP's advanced wipe settings. I did that. All good. Then i recieved a message from recovery saying that my phone is not succesfully rooted or something similar and they gave me the option to install a new SuperSU. I accepted,by mistake,of curse, knowing that my phone is succesfully rooted after i used the Root Checher app from the Play Store. And then spoof... my phone stuck into a bootloop. Couldn't flash the ROM because i wiped all the data from my SD card, and also i have no backups saved. Furthermore my pc seems to not recognize the phone !
Using the same cable and the same USB slot it detected my old htc wildfire.
Please help me to get my phone back on track

i can acces TWRP . how do i do that if i don't have any backup made ?

If you can access twrp, than you can try to use the order
adb push ROM.zip /sdcard
...to copy a rom to you sdcard. Than you have the chance to flash the rom again.
But in general... Stuck at the bootloop is a famous failure.
If you are S-On (readable at the bootloader) you have to flash the Boot image after flashing any custom rom by extracting the boot.img outside the rom.zip and using the fastboot order
fastboot flash boot boot.img
In general I recommend to flash your phone to S-off when you want to flash custom roms - it makes many things more easier! You can get s-off in example with moonshine s-off.
Hope this could help

I'm no expert but if you are S-ON and you can see fastboot usb, then your phone is still fixable IMO.

you can flash a stock rom

N00b in need of help. Lock Bootloader?!

Hi,
I've posted a thread or two on here but I cant get any proper help or instructions to help me out
Basically, my phone has its boot loader unlocked (lock symbol shows up) and I have tried all methods to lock it but nothing works.
I cant boot the phone into recovery, and drivers arent very coperative either
I need help! ... I'm planning on selling my phone ,so need to restore it asap.
The problem started when I first bought the phone, it wouldnt update or reboot, so I tried a one click root, it unlocked the bootloader and everything looked fine. UNTIL, an OTA update came along, I applied it, but when my phone came to restart it was stuck on the google logo. I cant even update anymore
Pleease could someone help this n00b out? Really appreciated
Thanks!
Read. No seriously, these forums are chockful of help threads and guides on how to root your phone, install a custom recovery, fix your phone when it's stuck.
Since you want to go back to stock, I'll give you a hint...
1) Unlock bootloader using fastboot (DONE!)
2) Flash custom recovery using fastboot
3) Wipe data/factory reset in custom recovery
4) Install Gingerbread 2.3.6 in custom recovery
5) Lock bootloader using fastboot
Edit: If you're having trouble getting your phone to be recognized in fastboot mode, use the PDANet drivers for Windows. Usually that does it.
Thanks for the reply.
Trust me, I've read around this forum a lot! I've tried the drivers with PDA net but still nothing works. The drivers (adb I think) aren't recognised so can't get anywhere.
I get easily lost with the guides. I don't think they're newbie friendly. I .e. where am I supposed to type 'fastboot oem lock'?
Btw I have no custom rom installed ( I don't think) and when I downloaded the root checker from the market, my phone is recognised as not being rooted (even though I can't apply updates :/ )
I think main thing is that my phone isn't recognised in fastboot mode....

Thanks a lot for your help! I owe u polobunny , I can now lock the bootloader BUT, Ive rooted my device with 'twrp' and want to flash a ICS ROM. Which ROM would you reccomend and to install it do I add the rom to SD card and install from twrp interface? Or is it more complicated than that ?

Installing the Rom should be the same regardless of recovery. Yes put the rom on the SD card and flash away.
Thanks but do I need to wipe data/restore or can I just flash?

Oh boy, you do need to read my friend.
In recovery (twerp, twink, Clockwork, whatever) back up your current set up. Then... I suggest you wipe data/factory reset, then wipe dalvik and cache yes. I do it 3 times on Clockwork just to be sure. The cleaner you get it the less problems you will incur. I always wipe fresh unless instructed specifically to do otherwise.
Flash your Rom, gapps, kernel and enjoy.

[Q] Wiped and not working HTC One S [s4]

Good day everyone,
Thanks for taking the time to read this. I am in desperate need of your help. I recently purchased a HTC One S from an online store they told me it was new never used locked phone. Turns out phone was rooted, 4g does not work, and it could not recognize e drive, (internal sd card)
After reading the all in one i re-rooted it and install the teamwin version of recovery.
Now i never had any back ups or any factory files. as i got the phone rooted with software that did not work. My phone now has no rom and i cannot install from adb sideloader, or an other means. I am new to this and cannot seem to figure out how to get my phone back to even stock un-rooted etc. I tried multiple forums and download links but nothing.
i was able to install vipers rom at one point but despite several attempts to reinstall. recovery does not see files loaded. which i can see on my mac or pc.
the other strange thing i notice is that at the top in fastboot mode i sometimes see unlocked in pink only and other times i see both unlocked and tampered. when its unlock only none of my computers recognize connection.
I also tried boot.img for flash. The furthest my screen no goes is the htc logo, then goes black.
Please help, even to just point me in rite direction to have this resolved.
the boot.img, did you flash it via fastboot? (fastboot flash boot boot.img)
And, one question that comes to mind... they sold you a device as new, yet it wasnt.. Why didnt you return it?

Yes I tried several times loading the boot.img via fastboot.
As far as returning the device i trashed the mailing box but kept original packaging so no return address. I called the company which i made the purchase from "N1wireless" several times and sent several emails to them. They have yet to reply or answer any of my calls. Which is why I am so frustrated.

Boot into recovery, select mount > mount usb storage. From pc move the Rom.zip to your sd card which should now be showing on your pc. After it is moved to your phone select unmount then press home button in twrp recovery. Then install the Rom. After install open up adb and type adb reboot bootloader then press enter. Now fastboot flash the boot img from inside the Rom.zip on your computer. After that reboot your phone and report back

Hi, thanks for the reply, thats just the thing I cannot in recovery install any rom loaded to sd card. It fails. I tried reinstalling the recovery and it still not reading my sd card.
So my guess is i need a new twrc or how to do it from my mac, as now when i try on my pc it is failing as-well. Once I get the recovery to work I will try your other suggestions as I think it will work based on the steps you mentioned.
I am trying to figure out how to use terminal to reinstall recovery. any suggestions or links will be greatly appreciated.:good:

I reinstalled recovery several times now and it wont recognize the sd card. is there another recovery i can download and use? Also is there any instructions for a newby to use terminal to re-boot, everything from scratch. Meaning if the phone is completely blank except the fast boot and a recovery manager no backups or stock kernel etc. what is the format to be used in order for the computer and recovery to recognize the sd card?
I think I need a good recovery rom like cmod if there is one for the htc one s or the stock one if someone has it.
hi i had that problem

I had that problem the sd card would not be seen by my laptop and the phone would not boot at all if you plug in the phone to your go to start and then computer right click on your c drive go to manage and see if you can see it there if so try to format it and then reboot the phone if it works you can then install cwm as a recovery system then you can put what rom you wont on it i am use in zenRom 1.05 and to me its the best coz it like the htc rom that the phone come with if that don`t work let me know coz i have more tricks to try i hope this helps you out.
Theres only TWRP and CWM for the S afaik, and CWM sucks. TWRP is the one to use.
I had a similar problem a few days ago, luckily there's not such a bad solution.
1) Pick a custom ROM you want to install from the HTC One S developer forums (I went with Trickdroid) and download the ROM/boot image.
2) Then download and flash the stock recovery here: http://www.4shared.com/file/1UuxTh0k/stock_recovery.html
3) Boot into bootloader, clear storage and then reset to factory defaults.
4) Flash TWRP
5) Reboot into recovery, sdcard should now be mounted/visible
Then push the ROM to your sdcard with adb or mount USB storage and flash it/flash the boot image and you should be sorted.
Edit: Here's where I got the solution from btw (post #8):

I could not get the stock recovery via that link you provided. If there is another link to the stock I would appreciate it. I had to flash it wit cwm twice then reflash with twrc to get it to identify the sd card. i had tried the viper rom but my 4g and wifi doesnt work. Will try trickmod hopefully that works with no more issues

Bricked After trying to install CM10

After trying to install CM10 Via TWRP my phone hung on the CM10 splash page.
I have tried to reinstall CM10 and I keep having the same problem.
I'm able to access TWRP but for some odd reason I can't mount my sd card properly. I'm not able to click "Mount sd card" on the "mount" page in TWRP. That being said I can't backup my phone from a previous backup.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried holding down the power and volume down button for longer then 10 seconds or longer? this should force restart your phone, get into TWRP and try an other Rom for now, also did you try an international rom? international roms will not work.
UPDATE: I'm guessing your also can't recover your last back up because your on HBOOT 1.14 S-ON? 1.14 will not recover boot.img's
If you manage to get it to mount to your computer (Check your drivers are installed also, EG htc sync usb drivers) then look for a "one click boot img flash" unless you know how to flash them using fastboot commands, whenever you are to flash a room, extract the boot.img from the zip file, flash that in fastboot, THEN go to recovery and flash a rom. same goes for backups. S-off is a hassle.
My computer recognizes that the phone is being plugged into the computer but it can't install the proper drivers.
Sadly I can't get my phone to go into recovery either.

when in twrp recovery.
1. delete cache, dav. cache, and system restore.
2. reinstall the gapp files and the CM10 zip file.
3. reboot
The issue is that I can't get into TWRP
what did you do to it? phones don't just die and cm10 didn't kill it. are you sure you flashed cm10 for the evita?
also try flashing this version of twrp openrecovery-twrp-2.3.3.1-evita.img
also run "fastboot erase cache" after flashing then try going into recovery and wiping cache, dalvik, and external
I'm trying to fix it by using the HTC Android Phone ROM Update utility, but I keep getting the follow error.. "ERROR [140]: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR...
I'm not currently able to boot into TWRP to install a new ROM.

well if you've unlocked your bootloader you cant upgrade with anything to do with htc and that's sure to mess with it. you're on your own sources of updates, no OTA nothing. You need to install htc sync and adb drivers for your phone if that still doesnt detect then its a usb brick and I'm of no hope but others may be

I managed to relock my bootloader, but installing the stock RUU is still another story..
I can only get my computer to recognize that the phone is connected to my computer if I'm in Fastboot mode.
If you can't mount from recovery the sd got corrupted happened to me they have a fix if you do a few searchs. If you locked the bootoader and the computer only recognizes in fastboot that is good now run a RUU like 1.85

[Q] Screen stuck when try to reboot

Hi,
Im trying to root my HTC ONE S. I followed all the steps that suggested in the forums, but when I reboot the phone in the final step, it got stuck in the 'HTC quietly brilliant' screen. I left it there for 20 min or so, it didn't change. I am able to go to the recovery mode but I don't know what to do. I did a factory reset attempting to go back to the original software but it didn't work either. Any ideas what can I do? Im in real trouble if Im not able to use my phone anymore.
Thanks in advance,
Angel

Well if you are installing a custom ROM then there is no need to root before hand, you just need a custom recovery installed. The custom ROM will have root access enabled.
If you are asking how to just be rooted on a stock rom, then I would just google how to do it like you would. But I assume you install custom recovery, download a supersu.zip and install via recovery.

seems to be a common that the sdcard can become corrupted.
If that is the case, having the stock recovery on and then booting the phone into bootloader and selecting "clear storage" fixes the issue.
Then you need to flash custom recovery again, and mount usb storage.
For the S4 Ville version of this phone and not the S3 VilleC2
stock recovery

Hi,
I tried to do what you told me, but now I can´t even go into the recovery mode. I can only access the bootloader; anytime I select recovery mode it shows this (image below), after a few minutes it reboots and stays with the white screen ´HTE quietly brilliant´. I can´t copy any files either because the computer doesn´t read the sd card. Any ideas?

That is good, that is the stock recovery, basically saying you don't have access to it.
But you don't need to go into recovery, it is there just to fix the issue when you enter the bootloader and pick "clear storage"
So get back to the bootloader and clear storage. Then you will need to flash the recovery of your choice, CWM or TWRP. You should now be able to access usb storage. (unless you are using the special TWRP in the Maximus thread meant for hboot 2.16, then it just doesn't work)

You are welcome.
You only need S-Off if the rom says 2.16 HBoot required.
So there are a lot of different ones to try. As long as your Hboot is 2.15, if not then you need to upgrade your firmware to that. You see your HBoot in the bootloader screen.
So ya, most of the roms are ok with S-on, you just have to remember to:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
So on your pc download the rom, unzip it you will see the boot.img move that to fastboot folder and fastboot flash it.
Then you can move the ROM.zip to your phone and install via recovery.
Don't forget to wipe caches before rebooting. (when installing, if that particular rom opens up Aroma installer and one of the options is to wipe, do that but don't wipe again when back to recovery)
The sense based roms are generally more stable and like stock.
The CyanogenMod may have a few little bugs.
Just browse around and see which one you like.
It all worked out pretty well.
I'm trying with the MagioRom, seems to be very stable!
Thank you for your help, you literally saved my HTC!

stuck on white HTC screen, S-off & can get into TWRP

Yesterday I downloaded the TWRP app and attempted to update TWRP via the app. It said the process failed. Later on in the day I rebooted my phone and on reboot I am stuck at the White screen with the HTC logo.
My phone is s-off and I have been running stock verizon KitKat ROM that has been rooted. I have text messages with information I cant afford to lose. I was able to pull my photos off the device using a USB cable, and I am able to get into TWRP and browse the data on the device.
Is there anyway I can flash an RUU or ROM that will NOT DELETE any of the data on my phone so that I can get the phone to boot again?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Make a nandroid backup, It may boot later on. I've only flashed twrp using adb so I don't have any insight on what you did. If at a last resort you can run an ruu (after you saved said nandroid to a PC) then after the ruu add the nandroid back to the phone and flash it and see if it boots.
Another thing is to use twrp file manager and see if you can get a file like this one that hold the messages database, I found in a quick Google Search. /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
You may be able to re-add it back to a ROM after ruu? Honestly not too sure
Wish I had more info,
Best of luck.

I'd recommend making a backup in twrp. Then you can ruu back to stock KitKat, reflash twrp WITH FASTBOOT, make sure it boots, then restore the data partition only and see what you get.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I did make a nandroid backup in TWRP just in case i needed it. I reached out to DOTTAT and he suggested flashing his Android 6.0 RUU he had in one of his posts that did not overwrite data and he sent me a link to the file.
I downloaded it and flashed it using adb in fastboot and sure enough that got my phone to boot and simultaneously upgraded me which I was planning on doing soon anyway. On boot I was no longer rooted but since the phone is S-OFF I just installed TWRP using adb and then installed SuperSU and all is good.
Once again thanks everyone for the help!
