Hi xda,
I have two Moto G's; a 16GB version and a 4G version and they have totally different screen tints.
When displaying white, the 4G version has a warmer yellowish tint, while the 16GB has a cooler tint slightly towards blue. The 16GB's white is a lot clearer and more white, so in my opinion this one looks better.
Does this mean my 4G version has a defective screen? I'm planning on returning it, but I'm not sure and I haven't found a lot of information about this.
Thanks in advance,
Castanje

hello everyone!
ive been browsing through XDA's nexus5 forums for hours and hours but i feel like my question hasn't really been answered so far. i cant post in the development forum with the faux app thread (i have less than 10posts which are required) so i'm posting in this sub forum.
i got my n5 yesterday and it has yellow tint. the colors look washed out too. question:
has anybody been able to fix his yellow tint with faux app + faux kernel/franco's kernel? so is it only a software issue (bad calibration) or is it a hardware issue which cant be fixed on our side?
everything else seems to be fine so i dont really want to RMA it now and get 3 other faulty RMAs with dead pixels or rattling buttons like some other people on XDA.
thanks in advance!
How yellow are we talking? The Nexus 5s are noticeably more warm than most other phones out there, but they are more accurate when it comes to color reproduction. Unless it's MAJOR, then I wouldn't worry about it. You'll get used to it. Then there's this... which I don't know much about.

My colors also looked a little more yellow after the update to 4.4.2, can anyone else confirm this ?

it's definitely noticeable and quite annoying. the colors also look washed out and the entire display isn't as sharp as it should be (i think this is related to the general color/gamma problem). compared the color to my nexus S and you could directly see the difference. but i would say that ive seen much worse displays on pictures in the defects thread and other threads on here and that's why i'm hoping that it's fixable
yes, that's the app that ive linked in my first post. i'd be very happy if someone who has/had yellow tint and tested this app could post in here :fingers-crossed:

Samsung displays are known to be VERY oversaturated. I came from the S3 and I thought it was a great looking display. When I got my N5 I thought it was okay, nothing great. Now I love it. If I look at the S3/S4 it hurts my eyes it looks so bad!
It seems to be an issue that's affecting a really small subset of devices. The screen on my phone isn't yellow at all - in fact, it's just about perfect. I've read that people have been able to fix it by installing Franco's kernel, which makes sense because my screen gets too blue when I install it. If you make a yellowish display bluer, it should look normal.
Hi
This is my first post to this forum
Recently i had bought new Moto G from India. Phone is awesome. But display seems to be faulty. It's screen is slightly pinkish tinted. I had compared it to Nokia 520 and 720. Pics are attached herewith. My question is that, It is really faulty display or it is common to all Moto Gs. Please give me suggestion on this as there is still 30 day replacement scheme available. Should i have to replace it or not ?
Thanks in advance:good:
Any help on this problem would be greatly appreciated!
this is a 1st world problem but its from India.
seriously, tints on the phone vary..most of the time towards blue. so having a slight pink would be perferred to many.
Is there anything really wrong with it? Then replace it.

Thanks for the reply.
I think most of the Moto Gs are made from 2nd world(china). so problem may be common to all.
i had asked this question because if this problem is common to all Moto Gs then there is no reason to replace it. and only other Moto G owners know the display quality.
further suggestions would be appreciated:good:

My screen does not have any tint. I guess you can replace it, if you still have replacement scheme and you can convince them that it is not as advertised.

Thanks,
Can you provide me the pics of your Moto G's screen ?
Read somehwere that manufacturers release these tinted glasses for a reason.... It gives the lcd more durability. Mine also has a velvetish tint on the screen. It could also be the addition of metal oxides to give it a better durability. Can anyone second me on this?

That i dont know, but may be possible
But i forgot to add one thing that even color of the LCD material of Moto G is somewhat reddish(not black or grey). When LCD is in off condition(no back-light), reflection of light from Moto G's screen seems to be reddish. Means color of the LCD material of Moto G is reddish, not blackish nor grayish
Does anybody has observed this type of thing ?

Again, not every single screen is made equal and it would not be cost-effective (or effective in any way for LG) to calibrate them all individually. If you use a custom kernel there are ways to calibrate it yourself.

Can i ask what device you came from ? I actually like the stock colours, they are pretty accurate, its a warmer display .. if you came from a Samsung device it might seem too yellow, but thats because AMOLED screens are generally cold displays

Hmm... You are actually right. I have a samsung S3. Its a bit colder and of Course Not as bright as the nexus. But still i have a iPad mini and it is also an IPS Display and the colors are also much more colder. In fact for me it Seems to be more accurate.
Hi xda-people,
So today I got my Moto G 4G version to replace my old 16GB version, because that one has some big scratches and for some reason kept pausing my music and telling me to unlock the device.
Anyway, I found out that the screen from my 4G edition has a yellow tint. I wouldn't have noticed it, but of course I couldn't resist to compare the screen of the 4G edition with my older 16GB edition. I have googled about it, but I haven't found a lot of information about different screen manufacturers for the Moto G. I know that the Moto G is known for having a 'cool, slightly blueish' screen. Or maybe my screen is broken, I don't know... I'm planning on returning it anyway. I want my white to be as white as possible and not crème :cyclops:
So my question is: Is it normal for my Moto G 4G edition to have a screen with a more yellow/warm tint? Is there perhaps a screen lottery again?
Thank you all!
Castanje

Your display is totally normal. Depending if the display is made by LG or Sharp, you'll either have bluish or reddish tint. There is no perfect display anyway.

Thank you very much
If you don't mind voiding the warranty, you can swap the displays. All Moto G models use the same LCD and front chassis.

Looks purple to me... See screenshot.
But I don't see a yellow tint...
Edit: Actually the screenshot looks blue to me but my clock app is definitely purple when I look directly at the phone.

The same problem here too, screen shot on laptop seems blue , but its purple when i see it on my phone.
And also i just figured that the clock app shades change depending on time, so i changed my time to your screen shot time and i compared, its blue on the laptop but purple directly.
so this is general occurrence i assume.
:crying:
i returned mine, but same issue screenshots differ in color also selfies sometime are yelowish.
what ashame for motorola release a phone with so many issues!!!
I dunno if I should replace or not now, everything else is fine. anyone else has the same problem or I can get a proper screen ?

Well, if you're finding any issues with the display you can ask for replacement. They will replace it without any questions.
Talking about the yellow tinge, I am having no such issues on my Moto G. The clock however, changes its color according to the time. Are you seeing the yellow tinge throughout your usage? If yes then get a replacement.

I did some research and I found out that in many reviews moto g has a warmer yellow color overall, and maybe I was just paranoid . the whites do seem a little yellow. I just wanted to know if others have the same issue too. thanks for your reply.

Well in that case, here is my video review. Have a look. youtu.be/b7YPJJHafJY
I have come to peace with it now it definitely is warmer in colour reproduction, but I don't want to risk getting another defective handset over this, the mobile has been great so far, with insane battery i must say. screen on time reached 5.3 hours with average to above average usage. And about 4 hours with heavy usage. Definitely a keeper. thanks for the replies mates.
can close the thread now admins. Or is there an option for me to close it myself?
Just compared my wife's Moto E to my Moto G. Both US. Ran screen test app. The G definitely has a Yellowish cast in the whites and greys. And the colors are different on the same wallpapers.
yes it definitely does have a yellow warmer tone in my phone too.

The yellowish tint is because of adaptive display. In nexus 6 you will find a pinkish tint on the screen. Some phones of motorola have this issues.
