Asus Updated TF701 to 4.4.2 - Asus Transformer TF700

Had no idea they were still trying with this device and updating it. I assumed they gave up and tried something else.

No it's a very good device and all the dock issues are now resolved
It's what the TF700 should have been.

It would be great for all of us who can't unlock if the TF700 would get this update.

I would say the TF700 has 0% chance of any further updates. It's been almost 1 year since the last one - August 2013.

If the 701 gets the L update, will that help devs porting it to the 700? As in help with making the dock work etc?

Me too, devs can do much more optimizations and slim things down. Asus just provides some hardware/backend updates that might help.

[Q] How can I force an OTA update?

Just got a replacement device and accidentally cancelled the update. Now when I check it says im up to date
Did you already try settings, about tablet, system update?
you can force it by heading over to the dev section, rooting your transformer and flashing prime v1.1 so you don't brick your device.
Asus pulled the update due to devices getting bricked.
DONT update.
Some are getting bricked and there is a forum post waiting for further recommendations.

This. I'm not sure if there has been any confirmation, but i'm pretty sure myself and a couple of others finally got them to pull the update.

The answer is exactly what A Naked Emo said, but the firmware has been pulled from the update server, so until they put out a fix you will have to wait, and technically you have the latest version available at this time.

Anyone else got Firmware Update 10.4.4.23?

Busy with nothing I simply pressed the button to check firmware update for my TF700T. Then a notif came up telling me to install an update. After a temporary unroot I did what it said, and now I'm running Firmware 10.4.4.23-20121127, mine is WW. Root restored without any issue after rebooting.
Can't really see any changes (yet), probably have to dig deeper.

I did an Antutu benchmark, before update I was getting about 13300 or so, now I am getting 14400. I also think they have unlocked 1700 mghz for all cores except power saving obviously.
Got the update too, nothing too obvious seems to have changed.....
And I forgot to backup the dlpkgfile, sorry @geri.st

You haven't seen the performance of Cleanrom and Clemsyn kernel yet. I ran the .23 version and it's no where near the performance of the Cleanrom/clemsyn combo. I went back to stock just to see the .23 perfornace, but after one day, I'm back on Cleanrom/Clemsyn kernel.

From what I've read I truly believe in you. The problem is that I didn't use NVFlash when possible (had already updated the bootloader) and I don't want to risk unlocking and flashing ROM's for now. The tablet is not sold in my country and if I brick it I wouldn't be able to repair nor to buy a new one.
I am not a newbie on flashing ROM's in general because I still own a HD2 but I do know there are risks on the process.
Thus, I will probably wait for the 4.2 update to decide between unlocking it or not.

I hear you, you do have a point!
I agree that this update really improved the speed of my tab. Might not be clean rom fast, but it's still warrantied fast
It's a bit faster now. At this rate we'll be fully happy with the speed around April. For me it does what I want it to just fine So what if I have to wait 1 second instead of 0.5 second for an app to open? And the very, very rare (no, I don't get them a lot. once a day, at most.) ANR messages are a whole lot less irritating than the constant "Are you sure" UAC rubbish I deal with daily on W7. (technologically impaired clients. Ugh.)

I, too, am not risking unlocking. While it is for sale here quite regularly and the EU covers warranty concerns, I bought it from a store that's not known for its great customer service (Media Markt, for you dutchies&germans.) and I didn't get a chance to use NVFlash. (By the time I heard about the idea, the first update had already auto installed. ) I'm also generally rather unlucky when it comes to electronics, stuff tends to break. And I need the tablet for work, so I can't afford to have it send out for repair for weeks if I mess up.
@ShadowLea
I have exactly the same problem as you, but Media Markt isn't good for repair?
Must I unfreeze all system apps before the update?

Yes, you must unfreez all system. Any modification to properties (build.props) file also needs to roll back. The device must be in the "stock" condition or update will failed.

Rumours about CM11

Hello all,
I saw post about CM11 aka Android 4.4.
Is the HOS getting CM11?
The kernel tree got a CM11 branch!
And the other repos also.
If we get CM11, should all the bugs be gone?

It's sad.. Because the HOS is a really good phone.
Even the HTC Incredible S (a device like us) got a really good working CM10.2 (only a few small bugs), while this device is legacy for 2 years. So with smart developpers everything is possible.

See my threat in the development section. There is a build, but it got some bugs.
Just look at DEV for one S. There is 4.4 available It's alpha but it's a progress
The CM11 in the DEV section which is marked as a beta actually works pretty good. Been using it for a few days now and worked better than most 4.3 rom's I tried in the past.

I tried the unofficial version and it runs smoothly already. Although there are some reboots from time to time...
I also tried the unofficial CM11 and it's for the most part pretty stable (ville C2). I had a few issues but nothing that made day to day use impossible.
I've since rolled back to Venom because I like Sense and the CM11 isn't tweakable enough for my liking just yet.
Regarding the Android 4.4 and older devices, 4.4 uses less system resources and memory than previous versions, this is not to support older devices (it still needs fairly modern architecture) but to let modern devices run faster (if you look how much of your RAM and battery life is used up by default android processes in Jellybean and ICS you'll see what I'm on about).

[Q] Should I downgrade to 4.2.2 for RAM?

Hello,
so I just got my Shield in the mail today and so far ... haven't done anything with it. I want to use RAM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2661067&page=9). This tool looks awesome and the developers apparently put a lot of effort into it. However, I am not a 100% sure what I should do next.
1. If I understood correctly, it also works with 4.4.2? My Shield is already at that version.
2. If not, I downloaded the 4.2.2 image from Nvidia Dev program. Are there any advantages to downgrade except for being able to use RAM?
3. Does streaming of steam games still work with 4.2.2? (My reason to buy the Shield )
Thanks in advance for any help!

Pretty sure it's still 5.0. I don't think the S5 will be getting any more updates, it's at the end of its software cycle since 5.0, this update was only released for the stagefright fix.

No. Verizon's own custom OE1 is the reason that it's not rootable. Once you have the OE1 Kernel or higher, you cannot root unless they find another exploit. I doubt they will considering it's an older phone that's already being phased out in terms of support.

Take it back. You have a "new" phone that basically has no support for it anymore. If you have something to use currently other than the S5, I'd consider waiting till the new Google Nexus 5 or 6 2015 edition coming out this year. That should have root and an unlocked bootloader (Google wouldn't stand for Verizon locking down their phone).

You would have to find a phone you like, go to that forum, and check. I believe any phone with an unlocked bootloader can always be rooted? And I'm pretty sure the Google nexus 5/6 (the old ones) will always be rootable.
I'm jumping ship from Samsung (I wanted to move to the Note at one point, but Samsung screwed up big time with their phones trying to make it like an iPhone, and with Samsung/Verizon in bed with locking up root/bootloader).

There's a search bar at the top of XDA where you can enter a device. It also allows you to specify which carrier as well. This is from the M9 forum. Says you need a JAVA card which is expensive, but it unlocks the phone/allows root. You can also donate (usually $20-60) users to do it for you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...t-s-off-how-root-s-off-verizon-m9-20-t3123178
I have no idea about the M8, seems to be the same, have to have S-OFF or whatever the heck that means. Do research yourself if you want the phone.

Follow the instructions in muniz_ri's thread. He hasn't released the deodexed version though. You should never take ota when rooted, and you should actually have it disabled as soon as you root. One user reported that they ota updated without losing root, but I'd never recommend it.
There is no benefit in disabling it. You have to authorize any update, so it cannot overwrite it on its own. The only reason to disable it is the popup after an update comes out which can be stopped by deleting the update.zip then having the install fail.
Two or three updates ago, I lost the ability to rotate my screen unless an app forces it to rotate, now with this update my phone no longer reads sd cards, and in fact boot loops if there is one inserted. I've done a lot of searching, both when the initial problem manifested, and now with the new problem, but haven't seen anyone with a fix. Any suggestions?
