[Q] unable to install CM themes - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

today I stumbled upon a funny error: I'm able to install any app (unknown sorces too) but I can't install CM themes. I tried with L android theme and flux from play store and herathon (apk) from xda. Nothing. When I try from playstore it does give me "error -401" but I can't found anything related, so i just ask you. It's no big deal, I'm just curious.
I'm running on cm milestone 8 and I ran an fsck but there were no errors. Anyone has any idea?

If you're using [MOD] [NEXUS 5] Dalvik+bionic library optimization - Flashable, then see this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54143201&postcount=2221
If you're not then I don't think there is anything you can do apart from wiping then clean flashing and it'll probably solve your problem.

Thanks very much. Now how do I replace such installd? In what folder is it (and is it in the rom or in the apk?). CM really like to screw up everything everytime.

Go into your ROM's original flashable zip and take out /system/bin/installd then go into your flashable Dalvik and paste it in the same place to replace it. Then flash the Dalvik zip.

Gapps not appearing

I've searched up the forums and I did not get the solutions I sought.
My phone is a Samsung Galaxy Mini ST-5570, running on CM10 27 August nightly build. When I attempted to flash gapps, Play Store didn't appear at all, no matter which one I flashed (2 August-signed or the one by KonstaT). In the apps list (manage apps), Play Store wasn't even there. Is there a way to fix this problem such that when I flash gapps it would appear?
Your help is greatly appreciated!

Try flashing another one. Make sure the one you flash is for your android version.
CM doesn't contain gapps, so, download the apk of play store, and copy to your sdcard, them, open with any explorer

Actually, I have just found out the root of this problem - my phone has "not enough space available", so I had to do all the "adb commands" to delete all my ringtones and unnecessary stuff -.- But the problem is, my internal phone space gets rather low recently.
I would love to try out the inverted gapps sometime. What is it actually?

Gapps is a package containing certain Google Apps (that what it means). Usually these apps are not found in the market (anymore). It also contains some Google framework files. That version may be smaller, containing only the essential stuff.
make 2 partitions in your sd card, them, install link2sd, after that, transfer some programs to sdcard, after that, install gapps in recovery mode:

Google Wallet for Verizon Galaxy S3

So I spent a lot of time trying to get this working, and I finally did and I figured I'd share how I did it. It works for me, and a user of Google + confirmed it too. It's pretty simple. Thanks to Dustin Evans on Google+ (https://plus.google.com/u/0/108019745978944993252/posts) and XDA user garner.
first, find your build.prop in /system. Please use Root Explorer, I'm not sure if other file browsers save it correctly. Mount Read/Write and long press on build.prop and hit "Open in text editor".
Change the following lines to look like this:
ro.product.model=SPH-L710
ro.product.name=d2spr
ro.product.device=d2spr
reboot after.
after that head here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1965895 and download the wallet apk. (not all the gapps, just the wallet apk). It should work!
Im running cm 10.1 but it also worked on cm 10.
also this is my first post, feedback?
EDIT: I know that there are other posts describing how to do this but I found that they either didn't work for me or involved more complex steps. I'm sharing this because i found it to be easier and completely successful.
You should have used the search function on here. Would have saved you tons of time trying to get it to work. Also you should be able to download the apk from the market once you change these settings inyour build.prop file as well.

thanks, but i knew that. i dont think you can just download it, as i did that and it didnt work so well. i know there are other methods, but those are sketchy and involve flashing a new recovery (the all in one installer). this is a more clean way that i got it to work.
just trying to share my experience
also this does not involve flashing anything
Nope, i changed the build.prop file, rebooted and it showed up in the market. Installed it and it works perfectly. The method i mentioned did say you to flash stuff, but that's with the touchwiz based roms. But it also does say pretty much do what you have said as well.
Insufficient privleges
I changed the build prop like shown and was able to download. But when app is ran it states that I have insufficient privileges for this system image. I am just running a rooted image of stock do I need to flash a new rom for it to work?

Google Play Sore Error (-505) -- Lollipop

After updating to Lollipop on my Nexus 5, it restored all of my apps except for about 10. One of them is a widget that I use everyday called Simple Calendar Widget by MYCOLORSCREEN. When trying to download the app, it gives me the message "Unknown error code during application install: -505". It seems to download fine, but the message pops up during the install process. Anybody know about this issue or experiencing the same thing if you try to download this application? I also tried downloading the apk file online but that also fails to install. I can't find any info regarding this issue. Thanks.
I had this issue on certain apps as well. The dev of those apps needed to change something for it to work on Lollipop.

Code 505 is a permissions code. This typically means that the APK file already exists in your /data/app folder. You'll need to locate the APK files in question in the /data/app folder and remove them. You will need root to perform this action.
You came across this problem because you didn't do a wipe of your userdata partition when you jumped from Kitkat to Lollipop. I encountered the same issue because of that reason. I just ended up wiping and starting fresh as my phone hadn't been wiped since I got the device last November.

Are you sure? I flashed the factory image of Lollipop on my phone and it wiped everything. Afterwards, I had to also do a factory reset of my phone from the settings due to a storage issue. Why would that get left behind?
Edit: I checked (phone is rooted) and the app isn't in the /data/app folder

I spent an hour combing through Google group threads trying to get a real answer to this outstanding question. I was perplexed that only two applications of mine refused to install due to this error. The consensus was that the APK file was still there, or some remnants of data related to the application remained on the device that the Play Store service didn't like.
I ended up wiping my device twice:
Once by flashing both the userdata.img and cache.img files, which ended up giving me the storage issue bug on Lollipop. (Showing 16GB instead of 32GB)
Second by performing a factory reset from within the booted OS, which resolved the storage issue.
After that, everything was good to go. Have yet to encounter this error code again.

as long as you have adb working it can be anywhere as long as you know the path
so adb install c:\path\to\file.apk
as it happens with terminal emulator i could download the apk seperately, with other apps i'd probably download on my tablet and pull it off that

I had this issue trying to install Rom Toolbox. I uninstalled Terminal Emulator and the issue went away, probably because Terminal Emulator is included in Rom Toolbox.
How I solved it
In bootloader mode I flash from the factory image userdata and cache, then I wipe Dalvik, data and cache in TWRP after the first boot I skip the setup just too full factory data reset, in the second boot, I set up everything normal, but instead of restoring from previous devices I set it up as a new device, then I manually download the app that was giving the error, it installed without a problem.
I know is a little too much for an app, but it works for me.

I'm currently having the issue everyone mentions, except I already have ROM Toolbox Pro and was trying to install Terminal Emulator. Terminal Emulator in ROM Toolbox currently FC's on Stock (rooted) 5.0.1. But I use other features, like the Rebooter that I don't wanna sacrifice for just Terminal Emulator haha. I know, that's why you can't install jackpal terminal emulator if you have ROM toolbox installed as it uses the same permissions.
Although you should read up yourself because if you did, you'd know the terminal emulator in rom toolbox force closes on lollipop on the nexus 5.
I understand this is a old thread but I fixed it a way that wasn't mentioned in this thread. Just thought I'd share for anyone googling this issue and finding this. What I did was go into the guest account and uninstall the app that was causing the issue such as snapchat. The way I caused it in the first place was installing snapchat on aptoide which installed it on both my account and the guest account and I decided I didn't want snapchat anymore so I uninstalled it but it was still there on the guest account which caused the error 505 whenever I tried to reinstall snapchat.

[Touchwiz][Launcher]Galaxy S8 Launcher For Note 5

UPDATE: If you have the T-Mobile SM-N920T with TWRP installed, then you can just install my new rom from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=72098300
It reroots your device while installing the newest version of the S8 launcher, SuperSU & a super debloated version of the brand new Nougat firmware.
-----------
Hey guys! Here is the new launcher from the Galaxy S8. It's by far the best TouchWiz UI yet, with many improvements and with a slightly different interface. Not to mention that it's just really clean in appearance.
To Install:
1) Backup your current TW launcher as this will overwrite it.
2) Download the "TWS8.apk" below & install it.
That's it. Easy!
Error Fixes:
"The package conflicts with an existing package by the same name."
(CONFIRMED)https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=71850074
"Parse Error: There was a problem parsing the package."
(NOT YET CONFIRMED)https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=71674744
NOTE: This TW is totally different, so you will start with a blank page. You need only swipe up or down to see your app tray or just touch and hold like usual to set widgets or apps on Home Screen. See images below for more features.
NOTE 2: Your app icons and background will look slightly different than mine as I'm running the "PixelizeD" theme from the theme store. I'm using a different font too.
Please be sure to hit the "Thanks" or Donate button if you like it!

Hmm...Strange. I see it says that it conflicts with your current TouchWiz version for some reason.
My suggestion would be to:
1) Backup your device in recovery.
2) Install a backup launcher(like Nova Launcher) from the Play Store.
3) Download "System App Remover (ROOT)" from the Play Store and completely uninstall your current TouchWiz.
4) Try installing the TWS8.apk. (Use the "APK Manager" in "System App Remover (ROOT) to install it if it still won't install on it's own.)
Note: This all assumes you're rooted of course.
If it still doesn't work after that then, then either your variant of the Note 5(if running stock) or perhaps even whatever rom you're running may have some unusual configuration that renders it incompatible.
Try to wipe data of your actual TW in apps before installing it.

It should update whatever TouchWiz you have, unless your service provider heavily tweaked it in some way. 874 downloads in the the last 24 hours and I imagine that a lot of them had Marshmallow. Maybe try my suggestion in the 3rd post above if you're having trouble.

In short, it either works or it doesn't. For those it doesn't work for though it would seem you are in the minority. To determine more than that I would probably need to start receiving A LOT more information from people who are having trouble, like:
- What is the specific error you are getting when trying to install the apk?
- What is your device model #?
- What version of TouchWiz does it say you currently have in "Application Info"?
- Are you on Nougat or Marshmallow?
- Are you rooted or not?
- Are you on stock firmware or a custom rom(and which one)?
- Is your rom TouchWiz based or is it AOSP, CM, Lineage, etc.?
- Have you tried installing the apk with a system app installer/uninstaller(like the one I mentioned in the 3rd post above)?

APK Manager shouldn't be blank. Did you give the app root permissions? Maybe try moving the apk to the Downloads folder if it's not already. If it's blank it would just mean that the app is not finding your APK most likely.
What is the error you are getting when you are trying to install the APK normally btw? Is it the "package conflicts with an existing package of the same name" one. If so, then it may be the version of TouchWiz in your rom or something in your roms configuration that's preventing the update. Might need to try flashing a different rom if nothing works and you can't get it to install. I think it's worth it personally. The new TouchWiz is pretty awesome and integrates nicely with most Note 5, TW based, roms.
I had the apk in both download and root of my sdcard. The app has root permission i used it to uninstall the original tw home. Thanks I'll try it on another rom

This is a completely different error than they were having. Though if it's saying there's a conflicting package installed, then uninstalling and reinstalling, as I suggested in post 3 should maybe fix that, but you would need root.
The video you posted is difficult to tell what's going on, but the basic idea I got out of it was to try installing it right away on startup before the device knows what you're doing by changing your lock screen to swipe and placing a shortcut to the apk on the desktop for quick access after reboot, trying again and again after reboot until it works. Does this actually work for anyone?

Help with Transformer TF101

I am new here and have (almost) got timduru Katkiss working. I flashed the rom and it works fine and wifi works. But then I try to install Gapps. I tried the Gapps packager from Timduru but the setup installer crashed. I then tried Pico but got the dreaded error 70. I also cannot find superSU anywhere.
I am not interested in building a super system but would like to have the ability to install Google Play apps. Evidenly my System partition is too small. My TWRP does not have a resize featture. Is this the only way to resize the partition?
Any help appreciated.
I tried using the original files from timduru and flashed in the correct order and it finishes boot but then I get a message saying "Unfortunately Setup Wizard has stopped". I almost thought it was going to work but no luck.
Anybody got download links for bigwheelie? The links I got from the forum are all dead. I need to extend the system partition to allow Gapps to fit. Thanks.
