Can't get Google Voice working on my Nexus 5 with T-Mobile - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I used to have a Nexus 5 on Sprint but recently got a new one on T-Mobile and I can't get Google Voice voicemail to work. I've cleared data on the app and reinstalled numerous times and even pulled my old phone number off of Google Voice online.
And yes I've checked the dialer settings and it's set to Google Voice for voicemail.
I never had a problem getting it to work with Sprint...
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Why isn't it working? Works fine for me.
Are you stock? Rooted? Custom ROM? Does it give you an error message or are the voicemails just not going to Google voice? Are you sure they aren't going to voice and you just have notifications completely off?

Same here, working perfectly on CM11. T-Mobile N5

Fix Gmail
My BlakKat Nexus 5 sent this using tapatalk

I just fixed it. I went to Dialer | Settings | Call Settings | Call forwarding.
Woohoo!

Does you plan include call forwarding? It's required to have google replace your voicemail. I'm on metro pcs (Who runs on t-mobile) and I had the same problem till I realized my plan didn't include call forwarding and added it on

No mms with gv
is there a way to un-link your phone and your gv account?
You can go into Google voice's web interface and under settings mark your phone as receiving texts. Then you'll have mms back. Trade off is you get two notifications per SMS(one from Google Voice and one from whatever you used for texts before).

Yeah, i had to talk to a Sprint Customer Service person to do it.
Took about 20 min to get it sorted.

[Q] Google Voice

I am on T-Mobile. I use Google Voice for voicemail. If someone calls me while I have Gmail open, it rings in GMail and I can answer it and talk to the caller and everything. Is this normal?
Its a feature. You can disable it in the Google voice settings on the web

Interesting I never noticed before. I thought it only did that if you were on Sprint and did the "integration" thing. Thanks.

Sprint voicemail issues

Hi all,
Have any fellow Sprint users figured out how to get voicemail to work properly on this phone? I can dial 1 to check it if course, but I don't get any kind of notification when someone leaves a voicemail for me. I'm also getting those annoying 9016 and 8737 texts all the time. I tried pulling the Sprint Voicemail APK from my GS4 and pushing it to the system/app folder on my N5, but it still doesn't give me any notifications.
Anyway, does someone have a fix for this? I'd prefer not to call Sprint if I don't have to. Thanks!
Im on Sprint, and I don't have this issue. What ROM are you running? I used to get those annoying 9016 texts, two phones ago, when I ran aosp Roms on my old evo

Unfortunately, i haven't seen any progress on the sprint voice mail app. You can either integrate your sprint number with Google voice to handle all voice mails or
If you want to keep separate numbers, forward missed and busy calls to your Google voice number (*28 Google number) and set Google voice to "do not disturb" so it goes straight to voice mail.

I'm just running the stock rom. Do you get notifications when you have a voicemail? The texts are annoying, but my main concern is being notified when I have a message.
So far I have.

There are a few few threads about this. None have any resolution aside from use GV.
I cannot use GV and I do (did) get the 9016 without any other notifications. I now use PF Voicemail+. It's pretty close the Sprint VVM app we're used to. It took a little bit to set up but it seems to work. I now get push notifications and email when I get voicemail.
Still wish Sprint would allow the N5 on the VVM service.
I have the N5 on Sprint and after posting on their forms I can tell you that I don't think Sprint is going to give us a Stand Alone VMM app. I have installed Google Voice on 2 different N5's with Sprint and set it up to handle just the Voicemail and it works perfect on both phones. I have seen other threads with people getting the 9016 text. Before I set up Google Voice, whenever someone left me a Voicemail I got the notification to call, but never the 9016 so I don't have any advice for you there.

How do I get rid of voicemail icon?

I have a rooted nexus 5 on stock rom and I am using youmail for voicemail. For some reason I have the icon in the status bar that says I have a voicemail. (not a youmail icon but the regular voicemail icon)
How do I get this to go away?
Are you on Sprint? I could only get rid of mine by using Google Voice to put the VM in my missed call log.

I am on sprint but I use YouMail which is a similar voicemail service to Google voice. YouMail works fine. Calls are being forwarded to it and I am receiving voice mails from it. Still there is a voicemail icon that won't go away

Do you have voicemail feature/service with Sprint? If so call in and delete any voicemails in your inbox. If not then call Sprint and have them enable their voicemail service for your line and have someone call you and leave a voicemail. Then call in and delete it.

I called into sprints voice mail and there are no messages. Still the icon in my status bar will not go away.

Still no resolution. Has anyone had any other ideas or know what causes this icon to stay on here?

Nexus 5 Hangouts Google Voice - Cyanogen Mod

So I have Google Voice which I use exclusively for voicemail. I never call from the number and never text from the number. By default, I've been using Hangouts as my SMS app since I got my N5.
Starting on 1/31, every time I send an an SMS from my phone, its coming from my GV number and not my carrirer's number.
Uninstalling GV solved the issue. Reinstalling GV broke it again.

Turns out it was Voice+ Cyanogen mod that was ****ing everything up........
Yes I had the same issue. You don't need to uninstall GV though, just go your phone settings under wireless and networks, click more, then click on the VOICE+, and choose disable.
