[Q] Proper way to unlock a relocked boot loader - Verizon HTC One (M8)

As the title states, what's the proper way to unlock a relocked boot loader? Using Firewater again doesn't do anything. I can't flash any .zip files without them instantly failing (even if the MD5 checksum is correct) which wasn't happening before i fast boot oem locked my M8.
Any ideas?

I'm assuming you're also s-off since this is the Verizon forum so you could change to super cid and then get an unlock code from htcdev.

Naturally, yes, I am s-off. I can get an unlock code from htcdev just by changing my cid? Like this? That could work.

Ew, I can't give you the details cause I don't know them. I vaguely recall that super cid is all ones but I was intending to give you enough info to Google on. You obviously did with your post but again, I THINK your super cid should be all ones to then you would be able to get an unlock code from htcdev. Sorry I can't be of more help.

That's what that post says to do. I might as well try it, I'll write down my current cid and then test it out. Here's to not breaking anything :good:

Alright, changing the CID and unlocking using htcdev unlocked my boot loader perfectly, and now the rom I was trying to flash isn't just instantly failing! Thanks for your help!

One thing I don't know but would find out if I were you is if you should now change you cid back to what it was. I understand that some ROMs will check that and install the proper files based on it. It just might keep you from accidentally doing something you shouldn't.

To unlock the bootloader and install the Super Su, I used the method of the prompt comand (execute/cmd...).
'cmd: fastboot .....'
Thanks for help.
to remove root flash an ruu
to relock the bootloader, follow the steps on HTCdev.

Thanks, but, in htcdev dont have relock, only unlock boot.
to relock, youll simply use the fastboot command fastboot oem lock
at this point your bootloader will say **relocked** instead of **unlocked** and it will remain so until you run an RUU that overwrites it.
Forgive me refreshing the old threads. I just wanna make sure, cos last time I unlocked bootloader I had to use xtc-clip and it was an irreversible process....so I'm kinda old school here.
If I understood correctly, unlocked bootloader is no longer a warranty issue since it can be re-locked, isn't it? As long as your possible HW-problem doesn't make adb, ruu-installation proces an impassable nightmare, u can easily re-lock bootloader, restore stock ruu (using other words: u can erase corpus delicti and send your handset to service centre, without being caught, am I right?

Sorry buddy, you're wrong!
Once you have unlocked your bootloader (its state would change from "Locked" to "Unlocked") it can be locked again but its state will be set to "Relocked".
You can't restore the original state of "Locked" neither by launching any stock RUU nor by flashing a new version of the bootloader.
Corpus delicti is rather hard to hide, I'm afraid... Your hands are stained with blood and HTC has tons of luminol in its warehouses...
Thank you for clarification! I was hoping that RUU would overwrite "re-locked" to "locked", but I guess that'd be too good to be true
That's the reason for some people to wait for s-off and avoiding unlocked bootloader via htc-dev. But to be honest, Android without root is like a Porsche with max. 100 mph.. not nearly satisfying..

[Q] Re-Unlock One X 2.20 w/ Token?

I have looked around and couldn't find anything or maybe I overlooked it in my search. I seen where someone stated that if you updated to 2.20 but had your token you could "re-unlock" the bootloader. I have my token, now how do I go about doing this or is there a link? Do I go back to HTC Dev and follow the directions?

If you had your bootloader unlocked before then you should have supercid. Just follow the same instructions you did to unlock before. You may need to use the old unlock token from before, tho I'm not sure.
If you still have the original. Token
Fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin
It should work fine but if not just go get a new one from htcdev

Well the thing is the owner before me is the one who rooted it/unlocked it with the token. He sent me the token so I am just trying to figure out what to do with it. As far as getting another token form HTCDev, from what I understand that is not possible especially with 2.20 since the HTC One X isn't supported.

Unless the previous owner changed the CID back to the AT&T CID, it should still be SuperCID. This means you can use HTCDev.com to get a new token as many times as you want.
The barrier to unlocking in 2.20 is getting root to change the CID. But if yours is still SuperCID, that isn't an obstacle for you
you should be fine to use the token he gave you.
Stick the token in your adb/fastboot folder, boot phone into bootloader. From command prompt, CD to the same folder and type
Fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin
Follow directions on screen from there

Will anyone please direct me to an HTC One S S4 backup.adb file

Hi all,
Again I've searched everywhere and can't find this so I must post my second in 1.5 years of lurking.
I'm usually good at breaking in to my phones but turns out I know only enough to be dangerous. I think the backup.ab file is my last option before I give up on this phone. Basically I can't re-unlock the bootloader due to an error 150 after making a mess of my phone and supercid (returned to stock values) etc. I'm hoping a full restore will help me pass the bootloader unlock however I didn't learn about it until recent so don't have one. Something is different about the RUU's maybe or possibly htcdev doesn't give out more than one unlock code.
Feel free to help if you can by offering a link to an s4 backup.ab file, another way to unlock without htcdev, or using this code...

I'm in the same boat. I have the original unlock code as I thought it would always work but my token has changed 2 times noticeably in the last week so I don't think it will work. Also I have a full backup so have my original boot and recovery but can't write them. That's why I asked about the backup.adb file since I thought maybe it will bypass security and bring me back to stock and perhaps original token.

That's what I'd like to know but you can make your own prior to unlocking and rooting or whatever you do with adb backup command and follow directions on your phone. It was pretty quick and painless with my new android phone. Do a search and you'll see more info on the subject.

Htc One m8 vzw unlock?

Hello, I am currently running with S-OFF but my bootloader is [LOCKED].
I tried to run sunshine and since this phone is preunlocked when i bought it... sunshine already says I have S-OFF as it should so it doesn't offer an option to simply unlock my bootloader.
Basically:
I can't flash TWRP like this
I cannot use sunshine to unlock my bootloader as it normally does when granting s-off
I am stumped.
Any suggestions to get my bootloader unlocked?
SOLVED.
Changed CID to 22222222 (thanks jcase from sunshine irc)
Ran HtcDev. Recieved error when using fastboot. Tried again, Error. Tried one more time but instead of using fastboot oem unlock Unlock-code.bin
I used WinDroid Toolkit and manually selected my Unlock-code under the 3rd step (unlock bootloader) and it worked perfectly.
For anyone who was wondering this is a good workaround if you cant get sunshine to work due to your device being pre-unlocked (probably not with sunshine)

If you have a verizon phone, HTC DEV won't work. Neither will the fastboot command (as you've found out). The only way to unlock it is with Sunshine. There is no other method available.

Hmmm okay

Used to be if you were S-OFF you could issue a command and it'd unlock and relock as you pleased since security is off. This was on the m7 of course, so I'm not sure if any such thing is true for the m8.

He is S-OFF though, so he should be able to just issue the command and change it from LOCKED to UNLOCKED. Just have to find the command.

Bootloader Unlock from HTCDev

Hello all,
Has anyone tried to unlock the Bootloader by following the steps given by HTC in HTCdev.com?
Is it the same as S-Off ?
I have done it, and no it isn't the same as S-Off. Unlocking the bootloader allows root access and access to only some system areas. Critical areas such as the radio firmware are still locked down as far as I understand. when the bootloader is unlocked the phone is still in an S-On state. You can still flash custom roms and poke around a bit with S-On
S-Off allows access to all the areas, even the critical ones and is much more dangerous as far as accidentally making your phone inoperable.

There's a tutorial on YouTube, on how to use HTC.dev to unlock the bootloader. It shows a HTC 10 but still the same process.
The only part that will give you a headache is the bootloader token (which is covered in the video) I suggest you read up more and watch videos on the entire process and what the meaning of it all is.

Haven't used Sunshine, just got back to Android a month ago from IOS. Good luck
I am submitting the form with the unlock token on HTCdev website and get the success message, but I never receive the email with the attachment! Account is registered to an gmail-account. Checked all folder including spam. I am using chrome as browser, tried two different computers (win 10, win 7) . I am not getting any response? The submitted token varies every time its generated even on the same PC. I thought the token is something like a guid, so there fore it should be the same every time generated? Thanks for your help!
