WARNINGS & DISCLAIMERS
Proceed with caution and at your own risk - I am not responsible if your phone self destructs, gets bricked, or melts.
Please keep in mind that both these methods will yield ROOT only - as of know there is no way to unlock bootloader on AT&T
Rooting and any other modifications to your phone will void your warranty - do not root if you do not know what you are doing.
Rooted devices will not be able to receive OTA updates. You may have to unroot and restore stock in order to accept updates.

How to check if you tripped the root counter
Once your device is rooted via either method - the device secret service menu will show that you are rooted.
To check:
1. Go to dialer
2. enter 3845#*850#
3. Scroll to and click on LG RCT
4. click Display Results
Here you will see that it shows the device is rooted
Once the device is unrooted - the setting will be reset to No Root

My G3 from AT&T is on order and should be in my hands in a week or so. What firmware version comes with the phone out of the box? Should I root immediately to avoid any patches from being installed?
My reason for asking is based on my experience with the Moto X. I realized too late that accepting the standard upgrade to 4.4.2 via OTA would eliminate any chance of rooting. I want to make sure that I don't fall into that trap again.

Are there any warranty software's like Samsung's Knox on this device? If so does rooting with towel root trip it?

According to a friend of mine, towelroot will not trip the QFuse, only the root counter. If you read post #2 on this thread that issue is addressed.

QFuse will only be tripped if the recovery or rom is changed... The root counter will reset to No Root if you use the unroot method I posted
Sent from my LG-D850 using Tapatalk

Does it also remove the line about the first time you rooted? Also, when you say Rom is changed does that mean debloating/removing carrieriq/using xposed will trip it?

I rooted the phone using towel root - used Root Explorer to uninstall Bloat - installed Xposed and G3 TweakBox... then I checked to root checker in the hidden menu and it showed that it was rooted but the QFUSE was intact... then I unrooted using the method i posted.. Not only was the phone unrooted, traces of xposed installation were removed, and the root check in the hidden menu showed No Root with no additional information - also the QFUSE was still intact.
This is my experience and I have tested it twice. However... as always... Your mileage may vary...

Many thanks. I hate to sound like anoob, but this lg is new to me (coming from a gs3 where I avoided Knox counters until I sold the phone).

Working here. Thanks!

So let me ask you guys/gals is the bootloader locked than? Just need to find out before I go purchasing this phone through AT&T, thanks.

The bootloader is locked... Although you can root and install xposed, run root apps, and Debloat it's not likely that the bootloader will be unlocked anytime soon... So no custom recovery and no rooms.

I figured thanks for the quick response! I'm better off going with Korean version.

Is one of the methods better than the other? Just trying to decide which one to go with. Thanks

noticed when i run either root method SuperSU is not installed after. when i verify root under the the 2nd post, it says Rooted, Not allowed command has been excuted >su Rooting related file had been installed >su >superuser

[ROOT][apk]{TowelRoot}[4.4.2] Does not trip KNOX and does not touch bootloader

Hi.
Geohot released a rooting method for most android phones, and it uses an apk to obtain root (dead simple too, push one button, no need for other tools and workarounds). It does not touch KNOX or the BOOT-LOADER so your warranty should be fine.
You can get it from the official website, or from the XDA thread.
I ran it on my n9005 - Europe - unlocked phone.
I am on official 4.4.2 N9005OXXENB1
Kernel 3.4.0-636608 (12.02.2014)
Steps taken by me (21.06.2014):
1. Download the tr.apk
2. Turn off re-lock and app security.
3. Run the tr.apk, hit make it rain.
4. Install SU from Playstore, update it, reboot phone.
5. Check root
5.b. Success!
:good:
NOTES & ISSUES:
1. After rooting, I am unable to do a full device encryption. (if you unroot it works properly)
Workaround for issue nr. 1: Do a full unroot, reboot, make sure you have TowelRoot installed, but do not root just yet, encrypt the phone, do a reboot, launch TowelRoot, root, and you are good to go.
To decrypt your phone, you will need to unroot, then reboot, and proceed with the decryption process.
2. On ROM 4.4.2 official n9005xxuend3 with kernel 3.4.0-1168347[email protected] #1 MON APR 14 17:32:48 KST 2014, using TowelRoot, results in System Status: Custom
Possible fix for issue nr. 2:
Enter BOOT-LOADER (from power off, power on while pressing volume up + home) and do a Cache Wipe
Another possible fix has been posted in the thread, and you can read it here. Also here and hehe.
3. It seems TowelRoot, does not work on n9000. SOURCE IS HERE
Good job, even though I did it via Odin. It said it was rooted, and titanium kept saying that needed to be rooted. Root check app said it was rooted. I wanted to be pretty sure... Therefore Odin.

No, it does not show modified device. And updates should work just fine. It says it is ok in kies too.
I posted in attachments a picture of the downloader mode after root as well. Everything remained intact.

For me it works without issues. I also mounted the storage in write mode and managed to modify system files.
What root did you use with odin? Did it trip KNOX or did it mess with the boot-loader? And on what ROM wore you?

You should be able to root, however I can't say if you will be able to sim unlock your note. As far as I know, region lock and and sim lock are two distinct forms of locking.
What this means for you is, if your note is region locked, rooting and using the region lock away will work. However if your phone is sim locked, the region lock away can't help you unlock it. (root should still work).

As long as you do not modify your boot-loader and your kernel or rom for that matter, you should receive all the over the air updates, even in kies.
So if you are on official ROM and you simply use TowelRoot, you will receive the OTA udates.
To receive ota updates, samsung must belive your phone is untouched. Simply rooting via the TowelRoot, won't affect you.
You can enter downloader mode (hold volume down + home button at power on) and as long as it lists System status: Official and Current binary: official, you can use the ota updates.
I am with official Rom with a simple root with TowelRoot. Thank you!

For my device, after root, Full device encryption does not work.
I just tried it.
LE:
After doing a full unroot, device encryption started.
(I will factory reset, root and try again. If it will work, I will update the thread.)
LE2:
Ok, so I solved the issue, by unrooting my device, installing TowelRoot but not rooting, encrypting my phone, and after encryption is complete, I just used TowelRoot to root. Everything seems to work just fine.

That's a good question . I'm looking to root without tripping Knox on my wifi version I just purchased off of ebay. I'm looking for an tar.md5 to start with.. Any help would be appreciated.
Same here. A White WiFi Note 12.2 64GB I bought off eBay, which according to Samsung's website, doesn't exist.
Hello,
Great tablet... I just got one off ebay myself and I see towelroot does not work- app not installed. I Allowed unknown sources in security. I am curious as to why you guys are concerned about tripping the knox since this I think this tablet would be out of warranty, unless you would not want to trip it for resale?
Any success on rooting so far? I am no too experienced but the first thing I'd like to do is get the apk from this enhanced s-note on all my other note tablets and phone.

I tried 2 different versions of Kingroot with no success.
Hi I used the cf auto root - check the 1st pic I attached. Once you plug in a windows pc it should download the samsung drivers then download that specific dl in the pic (I can't copynpaste on here)- it gives you the latest odin program download. It really easy from there. Once you reboot, supersu is there. I then dl'd root checker, titanium backup, busybox, root explorer and most important twrp manager from the play store. It was all too easy. I'm on 5.02 and I did check the knox and it started but stopped and said it couldn't be accessed at this time. I'm keeping the stock rom and just wiped dalvik and cache in recovery.

The most effective way to root this tablet is with Cf-autoroot. It will trip the Knox counter but it will permanently enable SuperSU on your device.
If you root your device you will NOT be able to take OTAs. If you run rooted stock firmware it will alert you that an update is available but most likely it will fail to install. I tried updating my firmware while rooted via Kies and it failed each time.

Read the guide below for more detailed instructions.
Solutions to common problems are at the near bottom of this post.
TWRP Recovery and Xposed Framework at the bottom of this post.
Detailed how to guide, thanks to NotGrump903:
Code:
[QUOTE="NotGrump903, post: 0"]I wrote a little guide on how to root Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo SM-G903F with this new CF-Autoroot files.
Should work with SM-G903M too, you just need to download the file for the M variant.
Note that this will trip KNOX to 0x1! You, and only you, are responsible for what you do with your device.
When something goes wrong no one from XDA can held responsible. Do this at your own risk!
First make sure you have the latest Samsung USB drivers.
Then simply follow these steps:
1. Download the CF-Autoroot zip file for your phone from [URL="https://download.chainfire.eu/779/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-s5neolte-s5neoltexx-smg903f.zip"]here for G903F[/URL] or [URL="https://download.chainfire.eu/780/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-s5neolte-s5neolteub-smg903m.zip"]here for G903M[/URL]
2. Extract it to desired location.
3. Enable USB debugging and OEM-Unlock in developer options of S5 Neo.
If you don't know how to do this or what this is,
you should most probably stop right here and leave your phone as it is ;)
4. Open Odin.exe from extracted folder.
5. Power down your phone and boot into download mode by pressing and holding Vol. down + Home + Power.
Confirm by pressing Vol. Up.
6. Connect your phone to your PC and wait for Odin to state "added".
7. Click on AP button and select "CF-Auto-Root-s5neolte-s5neoltexx-smg903f.tar.md5"
8. Wait for Odin to finish binary check, then simply press start and wait.
The phone should restart a few times. When this is done you're rooted!

Little back story
How I noticed this
Used root tools and re disabled OEM unlock.
Tested to create a backup with flashfire and it failed and got me stuck on s5 neo with custom recovery binary FAP lock message
Ended up power down phone upon powering up same thing happened booting into stock recovery worked but didn't help not even if I wiped cache or factory reset.
Ended up in restoring whole system to make it work again.
So don't re lock the OEM unlock option it will end up bad if you try to do even if you don't have a custom recovery yet.
Thnx for writing the guide!

According to:
https://autoroot.chainfire.eu/
you have to use another file for G903M. Should work however.
It is called try at your own risk proceed with caution. It isn't ment for your device and might render some stuff useless. Chainfire haven't made one specific for m variant but it might work.
Again you try it with your own risk. Chainfire doesn't being held responsibility for your actions.

I thought the question is, that there are 2 variants of G903M, one is with dual sim (DS) one is without. I guess.
And there is root for M variant too.
Just check the OP again. Or chainfire. It was there since F.
EDIT: or the M means DS and thats the difference between those neo variants? Im not sure here xD
EDIT2: Yeah, then I guess all g903M are dual sim. http://www.phonemore.com/compare/ph...mds-vs-samsung-galaxy-s5-neo-sm-g903f/2917321
Then nvm I guess.

Will ROOTING my SM-G903F allow me to remove Region Lock?
Hi everyone, and first of all thanks for providing this information!
I just got my S5 NEO, and unfortunately found out that it was Region Locked, so I am not able to use it with my local SIM.
My only interest in rooting the device at this time is to remove the region lock.
So naturally, my question is, will rooting actually allow me to do this?
Would really appreciate a clarification on this!
Thanks guys!

Well, I know there were some files for unlock, flashable by ODIN, way before root. Also lots of users reporting success. It was on gsm hosting forums, but now all I can find is this: http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f94...laxy-s5-neo-fast-safe-unlockunit-com-1992423/
Maybe they removed it, to sell that service.
But anyway, you can try doing it over https://chimeratool.com/ they got a trial you can use, if you already didnt use it. They should also provide unlock.
But I have no idea if it will work or not, so do it on your own risk. Root shouldnt be needed.
Also dont forget to enable "OEM unlock" and USB Debugging.
But really at your own risk.

Why not http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470551 if it's region locked ?

Thanks for the replies guys, but I ended up purchasing an IMEI unlock code for $29 and that did the trick.
Got it from "Unlock Base"... great service and fast delivery in case anyone else is interested!
Good luck to everyone else with this problem!
I've found that "speedhack" apps like "Xmodgames" and "Oozhushou" don't work on my rooted SG5 Neo. Does anyone know how to fix this? I can't find any solution and I barely have any programming knowledge.
Does anyone know if this works on a Canadian SM-G903W (G903WVLU1AOJ9) with Android 5.1.1 ?
Thanks!

LG L82VL root?

i know this is a fairly new stylo, i'm using the Tracfone varient and just curious if it ever obtained root
I just got one.. So far i pressed the build no. To get developed options. turned the oem lock off, enabled debugging, allowed unknown sources and tried tried kingroot... I get some kind of error "authorization manager". I tried installing selinux permission program. Needed root. Any suggestions?
I need this too, anyone got any news.
I was able to with kingroot apk. Afterwards use kingroot advances settings to debloat.. Once ,reboot you will lose root .

Kingroot 5.1.2 apk
AFAIK, no permanent root exists for any variant of the LG Stylo 2.

Not quite sure about firmware. But if you have the same model as the OP's, that's the CDMA version of Tracfone's LG Stylo 2.
Can't even put the LG L82VL into download mode and kingroot is only temporary root.

Rooting ideas for Verizon SGS6

Since there is still no root method above 5.1.1, perhaps I should make a thread for ideas on rooting the Samsung Galaxy S6 6.0.2 and higher
I was thinking of editing default.prop in the ramdisk so I can gain root access since this is what I am hearing.
ro.secure is like root without the need of ADB
ro.debugging is root but you need ADB.
And then attempt to install su and superuser
I've seen someone on 6.0.2 on root checker saying they have root their S6 but it was hard to get root. So I am guessing he edited default.prop in the ramdisk.
That's all I am thinking, might think wrong or stuck in the past, but what do you guys think on what might get root access? I actually need ideas on what can get root access to the S6

This guy you've heard has root on 6.0.2 is on the G920V right, also seems interesting, do you think you could link this image, or original posting or whatever?
If Root Checker has an option to contact the person that rooted 6.0.2, I would do it, but I can't. That's why I made the "Rooting Ideas"
Also, I have the feeling that since PC2 can be downgraded to OK7, it might have the same bootloader. So technically were not far from root for marshmallow.
You can check in root checker. Cause that's were I found someone that rooted the verizon S6

Ok, after I flash again (FLASHFIRE WORKS!, too bad it is pretty much useless now..., may have soft bricked it again XD) Working with Rooted 5.1.1, and it is quite crap... the battery life is maybe 3 hours max, and everything is SLOW!
THINGS I'VE TRIED:
Flashing 5.0.2 via Flashfire - FAIL
Flashing 5.0.2 via Flashfire, then flashing custom sboot - FAIL
SuperSU-MEing Kingroot in 5.1.1 - Kind of....*
Flashing PC2 Firmware (MM), With Everroot Enabled FAIL**
THINGS I NEED TO TRY:
Flashing Custom SU (or Custom VZW S7 SU) via FlashFire
Waiting For ROMS for the Eng-Kernal....
That Is All The Info I Have
*SuperSU works, but bootloops on reboot...
**Stuck at Screen BEFORE BOOT LOGO
(Where is says Powered By Android at the bottom)

It could work though
Since the verizon S7 users are in the same boat as us
I really hate lollipop. Its soooooooooo slooooooooowwwwww. So I want to see if we can try to get the S7 SU binary asap before my phone gets more slower :crying:
Tried to root 6.0.2 with Easy One-Click tool on the forum for tests and giggles. Gave me a bootloop.
