As nightmares go, this one is bad. [JB bootloader] - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I'm smack dab in the middle of a damn nightmare:
I sent in my tablet for RMA(broken digitizer). During this time i discover the sweet world of rooting and fell in love with Cyan11. I planned to unlock, flash, flash and then enjoy my tablet to the fullest because i wanted something new(and the stock ROM was getting tedius...And its a buggy and/or slow piece of S***).
Finally i got my tablet in the mail and did something stupid:I downloaded the OTA update. I then installed the tool and ran it but i got the infamous "An unknown error occurs, which may be a network connection issue. please try again later". Tried everything i could: reseting...thats about it.
I want to ask is there a possibility that the tool may work if i down grade to an earlier build of 4.2.1 or jump directly to 4.1?

Sure. Asus's site is really wired but basically you go here:
service asus com/#!downloads/c1wax
and navigate to the tf300t download page.
Select android
Select utilities and its the 3rd option from there.
Thanks.

Ok cooljoe30, so I took and from what I see you tried to use the unlock bootloader app vr8 android 4.2? Is that correct? Also I would like to know what you meant by downloading the ota update?

The only way I've got it to work was after I register the tablet with asus. After that you have to wait more or less one day and then try again.
If that doesn't do the trick, and since you have RMA, maybe you have to contact Asus support so they can tell you what to do.
Make sure you got the right unlock tool from the Asus download page.

New Infinity on ICS but says no update available.

I've searched but every thread dealing with this concerns a tablet whose update failed or rooted or something. I just bought my gf a brand new Champaign tf700, it came with ics obviously, and it says no update found when I go into settings and search for update. Tried a factory reset and cold boot... no luck finding a JB update.
How do I get this thing to update? Any easy solutions?

http://support.asus.com/Download.as...&m=ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity TF700T&os=32
Steps of Update:
1. Check SW version of your Eee Pad Transformer Infinity TF700T*
2. Download Eee Pad Transformer Infinity TF700T Firmware: V10.4.4.16 Only for US SKU and Update version of SOP (From “Manual” Item)
※Firmware update cannot do *SKU conversion* and downgrade version.
Wrong SKU may cause update failure, You can only update your SW version on the Same SKU
*How to check SW version of your Eee Pad Transformer Infinity TF700T?
Path: [Settings]-->[About tablet]-->Build number
Example: You should be able to see the build number WW_epad-10.X.X.X_2012xxxx, where “WW” means SKU.
**Basically download the US update (Guessing since your profile says Detroit you have US version), and store the update onto your micro SD card. Then plug the micro SD into the tab and it should prompt to update. Good luck.**
Are you rooted? Do you plan to unlock? What version are you on? (.26, .30) If you are on .26, check out the thread on NVFlash in development. After you upgrade, you cannot use NVFlash. If you need to upgrade, and don't want to unlock, you should be able to go to asus direct and download the update. Check out this thread on NVFlash : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901479.
Try this one for update: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1803090, note, it does require root.
I just returned a prime today that I bought for a friend in exchange for a C8 infinity. Tablet didnt want to update to JB and was stuck on 4.0.3. So I used my laptop and went to the Asus support download site, download 4.1.1 US version, unzipped it and another zipped file came up, Plugged the infinity to the laptop via Asus cable, copied the second zipped file into the main directory I think it was /mnt/sdcard, Rebooted and the exclamation sign came up and installed the new 4.1.1. Then went back and deleted the file that I copied on to the main directory. Dont need an sdcard to manually update.
I just received my tf700 on Tuesday (from NewEgg) . I got two OTAs updates that afternoon - neither was JB. Finally JB came through last night. So you might have to wait a day or two. ...

1. When still on .26, install Nvflash. Look it up on the forum for the steps. It's not that hard.
2. You might be one of the people having an Infinity that apprarently is not showing up in ASUS' serial number database. This will preclude you from a) receiving an OTA (Over-The-Air) update like the one you're hunting for, and b) will prevent you from being able to unlock the device, so no custom recoveries (and therefore no backups) and no custom ROM'ing. For a lot of us, that was enough to seek (warranty) replacement.
3. If you decide to keep this 700, the procedures given for manually updating a firmware work. However, I'd sincerely recommend you reading through their main threads to really get a good feel for what to do and, more importantly, what NOT to do. There are quite few ways of updating a 700 by hand, depending on what works and your skill level.
Thanks for posting this question. I was having the same issue and now i found my answer WIN!

Help updating TF300t to 10.4.2.20

Hello,
I just got my transformer tf300t (US) yesterday. It came with 10.4.2.18 on it. It tried to update to 10.4.2.18 right away, but i had heard so much about problems unlocking the bootloader, i went ahead and an postponed the updated, and unlocked immediately. The unlock went without a hitch! I thought, great! However now I don't know how to update the firmware to 10.4.2.20, as when I tell it to check for udpates, it says that it is up to date(and from what i read this is because its unlocked).
I thought about just installing a customer recovery, and flashing a customer rom based on 10.4.2.20, but they all say in the instructions to update to the newest rom before flashing(i assume this is because the bootloader needs to be up to date?)
Any help or guidance would be appreciated, thanks!

I went through a few hours of heartache to be able to update my tab to stock jb 4.1 about a month back, and to be honest I don't really remember how I did it, though I think it involved adb/fastboot...
I am currently running cm 10.1 off of the asus 4.1 bootloader, and I will be attempting to update to asus stock 4.2 in about 20 minutes and I will let you know my findings... but sofar, you are off in the right direction, though I might recommend the NVflash tutorial in the dev area to make sure you cant f up your tab...
Alright brother, so here is what I have got figured out since I last posted about, oh, say 8 hours ago...
Now, assuming you took my advice and did the whole lovely NVFlash Tutorial, then what I would do is go to Asus.com, pick your region, go to support, firmware, then select the 10.4.2.20 update that matches your tab's region (mine is in the US, so I picked US). Then download that sucker, go smoke a cig or two (however long it takes) or do whatever you do that will take THAT time to download the ~500mb file...
FROM THERE, assuming you are using windows (like I am, Windows 7 to be exact) use your favorite unzipping prog. to open the file, then extract the .zip within (called US_epad-user-10.4.2.20.zip) to somewhere on your interal (or I prefer external) sd card.
NOW, if you haven't done so already, you need a Custom Recovery, and I HIGHLY recommend TWRP because in my experience, it is simply more versatile that CWM (clockword mod). Again, you can find this in the Developement section of this forum...
Once you have both TWRP, and your official update file on an sd card, you are almost home free here... Alls you have to do is boot up into recovery from, say... device turned off... by first holding Volume Down then pressing and holding (at the same time) The power button until device comes on. You will then be met with a small message in the upper left hand screen saying "press Volume up to enter RCK" (or recovery) and TWRP should load from here.
Once it does, then it's easy here, first, for grins, create a backup, simply by hitting the backup button (you'll know it when you see it) that way you have a dyed-in-the-wool backup of your actual stock rom (THIS CAN BE VERY HELPFUL should you need to return or repair the tab, which Asus will no longer cover since it's unlocked, but if you got it from, say Amazon or Best Buy, you should have almost NO problems being able to do that... jejejeje) once backup is complete (should take about 3-5 minutes or so) then hit the Home softkey in the upper right corner, go to "install" then find where you put that update file that I had you extract earlier (hopefully on your external sd card for simplicity)... You are given a some-what easy to navigate file system that should help you locate it where your folder tree will be on the left window and your files within the active folder are in the right, select the file, then install...
WHEEEEE! Now let that bad boy go, when it says Success! and displays the buttons again at the bottom, then you are good to return home to the main screen (of TWRP) or to just Reboot the tab. Upon rebooting, you will first see your Asus splash screen with the device unlocked text in the upper left, following some new text saying something silly like official update ok, then the next screen will have a slightly different Asus splash with a progress bar that fills up blue as it updates/installs the system. THIS WILL TAKE A LITTLE WHILE, and when done it will reboot again ( I believe) and then show the Asus logo with a dotted rotating "loading" circle, and this too, will take a while to finish doing what it's doing...
From here, it's just the waiting game....until you are prompted to set it up like you did the first time out of the box.
Congrats! Now you are fully up to date until Asus posts the NEW 4.2 update on the site, which is currently only available in the US via OTA update (which would require you NOT be unlocked, but who cares)
You can find info on THAT update below...
http://www.androidcentral.com/android-42-roll-out-asus-transformer-pad-tf300-begins-today-us
Other than that, once you are where you wanted to be (which was on the official JB 4.1.1 update, things will go smoothly for you, it ran real nice for me, but I don't know if it's just my Wi-Fi setup or what, but I seemed to lose Wi-Fi stability after a month or so... Asus has been known for that I hear, but then again, you might not have that issue...
At any rate, you are now able to safely flash your brains out on this tab... I was on CM 10.1 (which gives you the bleeding edge Android 4.2.2) and it works nicely, but I experienced some seriously noticeable lag on screen rotation when using the nightlies that simply just weren't there on the stock rom. Not only that but the stock rom gives you a cute feature at the bottom of the screen, in the middle of the notification/nav bar... a navigation locker (great for games, especially if you have kids or just hit the nav buttons accidently when using media).
I am currently running the newest AOKP, and it does everything that CM10.1 does (as far as I can tell) and isn't short of any features (again, as far as I can tell after about an hour of toying) that CM10.1 has...
*finally exhales* Hope this has been helpful to you... God, I know it would have been helpful to me back when I did this.
VERY IMPORTANT: as it is almost 7 am, I just realised that after you flash the official 4.1.1 update, you will need to reinstall TWRP in order to use other ROMs...too easy, doesn't take hardly any time, I just forgot to mention it... Wish you well on your new tab!

[Q] Indipad 10" Unblock or ROM

Hi, just recently some student tablets started to drop in my shop with problems, the latest one was an Indipad 10" made by LGS Caribbean, that is ALL the info I know about it since there are no labels anywhere in the tablet or the box, my guess is a generic Chinese re-branded tablet and it looks like is running ICS 4.0.1 but can't be sure since is locked with a number password. The client brought the tablet in cause her child was playing with it and activated the password screen lock and of course the child doesn't remember what he typed in. :silly:
I'm either looking to unlock the tablet, factory reset it or re-flash stock rom.
I already tried using the volume +/-/power combo for the recovery but it takes me to the android boot error screen, so I guess it has no recovery installed or it was deleted on purpose by the company. Also tried entering a lot of failed passcodes to see if it brings the account recovery option, but is a no go.
Did a Google search to see if I could also find a rom to flash on it but since I'm limited on the info about it nothing has come up.
Many thanks for any help.
No one?
Same thing right here. But i can tell you it is running android 4.0.4, and the build number is: crane_m1003h6-eng 4.0.4 IMM76D 20120921. Of course as you may know the 20120921 is the date so my guess is that it depends on how many updates those tablets have received already. Anyway, the recovery works, cus i have one in here working and you can access recovery from inside android(when you go to factory reset it gives you an option to do so, i did and it works perfect). But again just like you said, It wont work using hardware buttons. I was trying to find someone who can contact me from LGS Carribean but no luck at all. Just nothing, i have a working INDIPAD at this moment and thats how im telling you whats the firmware version and build. Like you said on your post, its an issue dealing with generic tablets it really is. I have not found even a similar enough firmware for the tablet to flash, but i can confirn you can use LiveSuitPack to flash them. Only issue is that i havent found a firmware to do so lol.... And ive look just about everywhere. Im going to run USB deview to check what the real hardware is and brand, if im able to find something ill let you know M8
Many thanks, client called in today and told her I'm still looking for a solution. Will wait for what you find.
Did you get this resolved?
Not yet, @home atm, so I'll check tomorrow for an update.
Seems we still on the black
Yes we are, so far i can tell you the processor is an A10, so its an A10 device. It shows as T10a for manufacturer, but so far thats all i can tell you. There might be a way to pull the firmware image from a working Indipad so that we have something to flash on the password protected ones. But for now, we are all waiting on something
Have same issue

My mother-in-law is an English teacher and has several students with the same issue with a password they forgot or they locked the tablet on accident. I haven't been able to factory reset, but when you mentioned T10a, a quick Google search led me to show that EKEN makes T10a tablets.
I hope I'm not leading you down a rabbit trail, but here is their support site with manuals and firmware downloads
Also, searching on XDA apparently there is a way to get CWM on the EKEN T10a and instructions to flash to their latest ROM.
I haven't had a lot of experience with flashing ROMs, but I have flashed my personal devices before. So please let me know if this is possible in any way. I wouldn't want to mess something up. Well, I hope this helps.

Sweet, I'll do a hardware comparison tomorrow with EKEN T10a and see if they are identical devices (at least from the outside), if they match I'll just try that. The device is a brick atm so it doesn't matter trying to experiment with it.

The one for T10A, version "T10 G-SENSOR6225".
I also had a bit of a problem at first trying to boot it into flash mode, but what I did was go to the device manager in Windows and saw that there where 2 copies of the special driver that the "LiveSuitPack_version_1.09_20111101.exe" installs, one with the checkmark like they said, the other I assumed was the tablet connected, so I deleted the one with checkmark and tried again, this time it went through and started the flashing process which took less than 2 minutes.
Straight after attaching the cable, and whilst still holding down the volume+ button, start pressing the tablet power button repeatedly. This (slightly frenzied) procedure puts the tablet into update mode.

That was the tricky part, to make it boot into flash mode, it has to be fast between connecting and starting to press the buttons, I took like a 1 second delay between the two things.
Also, got to point out I didn't do the CWM or the root mod, just did the firmware flash cause that's what the client wanted.
Its allright buddy, and thanks. Thing is that i was trying to update it as it said on the Ekken website. But the tablet didnt accept the SdCard update at all. I told you it should be done using LiveSuit and yet i was afraid of bricking the device using LiveSuit ha ha.... Thanks a lot guys, case solved. It took all of us to do so but hey, we made it!!!!

Their server is kinda slow but I use Free Download Manager to download big files and speed up the download.
Also remember this was an experiment and it worked by chance, so no guarantee that it will for every indiPad out there, specially if the manufacturer changes the hardware, you should check the hardware info on the tablet just to make sure we are talking about the same tablet model or you could brick your device.
thanks bro, i know about rom experimental, i think same tablet from Puerto Rico, indiPAD, same eken t10a.

[Q] No way back? (magic ring)

Hello, dear fans
Yes.... I think also that TF700 is piece of crap and not solid tablet but anyway.... I have Asus Transformer Pad Infinity (TF700) with last official update (WW_epad-user-10.4.4.25.zip) JB stock ROM... But the tablet is still laggy and unstable. I want try to another ROM. Unofrtunatelly, I cannot unlock my device (Maybe you see the message: An unknown error occurs, which may be a network connection issue. please wait and try again later). If I cannot unlock I cannot get the ROOT on JB also I saw in some thred that people with earlier or equal ROM with 9.4.5.26 can unlock the device and in 9.4.5.30 and later NOT. But I cannot flash to .26 ROM because JB needs almost .30 ROM and later (I tried writing blob via fastboot and update via EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip on SDcard also... But I can install only .30 ROM as MINIMUM! But on this ROM I cannot unlock my device ALSO. I really try anything... Any ideas? Of course, I wrote very ugly mail to ASUS support but without effects (I tried before viac HOT LINE but without any response!) This tablet is reaaaaly piece of trash. Thanks for advice.
In that case I'll give ya $100 for it.

If I cannot unlock I cannot get the ROOT on JB also I saw in some thread that people with earlier or equal ROM with 9.4.5.26 can unlock the device and in 9.4.5.30 and later NOT. Any ideas? Of course, I wrote very ugly mail to ASUS support but without effects (I tried before via HOT LINE but without any response!) This tablet is really a piece of trash. Thanks for advice.

Well my friend not exactly the best words to start with if needing help from the many fine members of this forum.
The unlock tool will eventually work if that's what you want to do.
Personally your being "really ugly" to Asus thru e-mail could be why they remain unresponsive.
If you could perhaps take the calm approach those trying to help would be much more willing.
absurd paradox
Unfortunately I can understand where all these negative feelings derive from.
I am the rightful owner of a tf700 too.
To be quite frank (and I won't surprise anyone), I am not pleased.
There is no reason why I can't enjoy a smooth and flowing experience.
There is no reason why in order to make the best out of the tf700 it is recommended that I flash a custom rom.
I refuse to unlock my tf700 because there is no reason why I should void my warranty, trying to fix it - this is an absurd paradox!
It is about time someone filed a class action in order to stop this "tf700 incident",
so Asus will start to make their excuses in court or maybe solve this unfortunate condition,
once and for good.
cheers.
Nothing stopping you from filing a class action lawsuit is there?
Or you could just take control and unlock and flash a custom ROM and be done with it....
Choice is yours as Asus are not going to help you.
wish it was that simple
I wish flashing a clean rom was that simple, but there is no plain guide.
Everywhere I go (including xda forums) there are "half explanations" and I am tired of trying to solve this puzzle.
For example, I read a guide which explains how to unlock and install a custom recovery using an "adb tool",
but there is no explanation how to install the newest version of TWRP, which is required for cromi 3.4.X.
Anyone know a plain and full guide for 10.4.4.25 build?

A work around for the unlock isn't available.
Seems as though the key for the bootloader is encrypted very well.
Until someone leaks the key to the internet we're stuck.
My understanding is:
Asus wants the embedded serial for any tablet requesting a bootloader unlock.
The serial is registered with Asus from an outside server database.
Asus voids the warranty then shuts off OTA's because they don't want to push updates over any customisation to the tablets firmware.
This would most likely result in a bricked\non-functioning device.
Asus knows people inherently re-code devices with non-manufacturer firmware and risky applications.
The manufacturer is saying to the buyer we can't be responsible for user induced damage.

First of all you could use the search button
Here is a thread where I specified how I got my tablet unlocked: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2146543
Just keep in mind that the Asus Support employees are not personally responsible that the MDM-server in Taiwan does not know your tablet. Don't act like a jackass and don't act like mister-know-it-all, then they will help you, like they helped me.

These forums here provide all information one needs to unlock/ root/ install custom ROMs. I got all information from here and I did not have any problem whatsoever.
You know, people here are willing to share their experience and to help out each other, but the burden to do the work is on you. Also the risk of bricking your device is on you.
Just don't expect anybody to do your work.
As a matter of fact, installing custom ROMs on the TF700 is not trivial. You do need ADB and Fastboot to flash a recovery first. Also you have to have some basic knowledge about how computers work in general and about Android devices.
Even as complete noob, you can find all needed information here. So either you take your time and educate yourself - like I did - or you use the stock ROM or you hire somebody who does the work for you.
Root it but keep it locked! I was loosing sleep at night because I thought I was suckered into believing this was a quality machine and its got tons of glitches, no doubt. But they are mainly lack-of-RAM related. If you root, and disable most of your startups, you can get a clean 500MB after boot, and that makes all the difference in the world, trust me. I was in you boots and was actually dreaming about getting an iPad (please forgive me guys). Honestly, I was sick to my stomach then the rage set in. I decided to learn and root before throwing this POS on ebay or craigs list, and starting over with another brand, probably an Apple, I was so hurt by lack of quality and testing/debug.
Like day and night! Now I love this thing. Hasn't had a random reboot, app crash, etc. in nearly a month now. Before I was getting 5 per day. Its an amazing difference attributed to the OS and apps having room (RAM) to run in. Whoever decided that 1GB RAM for a 4-core droid tablet was enough should be tarred and feathered then shot in the head twice!!! If it had been 2GB instead of 1GB we wouldn't be having this discussion at all.

Unlocked! Yay!
Hello dears,
so I have my tablet Unlocked now... I forgot.... You must register account and then register tablet here https://vip.asus.com/login.aspx?. So maybe this can help to someone... OK, I have installed Clean Rom Inherited now and it looks and works fine Thanks to all.
So steps to reproduce:
1) Create account on https://vip.asus.com/login.aspx?.
2) Register device after that
3) Download Unlock Device App: Unlock boot loader from Android -> Utilities from http://support.asus.com/download.as...Pad Infinity TF700T&hashedid=fq2B3oq64av1O95u
4) Run the application
5) Tick the you understand that your warranty is now VOID
6) Type your google account login and password
7) After restart you should see in up-left corner message "Device is unlocked"
8) Enjoy
Update: Fixed my last known problem which was wifi streaming movies to the device from external source (wifi HDD or network connected storage). Got Dice Player, that's all I have to say. Now EVERYTHING is working perfectly. No more random reboots, app issues, conflicting apps, got plenty of RAM, got all my desired startups loaded including System Tuner with a few tweaks added, Browser2RAM, RAM booster, etc. and device runs fast, smooth, and without any "glitches". I finally have achieved rooted stability and will now take a rest and enjoy this tablet a bit before I do anything more to it because this has been a hair-puller to get to this point. Finally very happy with this device but I had to venture far from stock to get here and it was worth it.
By the way, what day of the week is it?

I read a few stories about this issue because somehow the devices' serials do not match the ASUS's server in order to register your device. I was lucky on the first try with the unlock tool. To answer your second question, 1. go to your setting, 2. click on the About Tablet and find the Build Number. 3. Just click on the Build Number about 7 or 8 times to enable the Developer Option. Good luck

You cannot unlock through ADB. You have to use the Asus Unlock Tool.
Keep trying. Many users needed 5,6,7 or more attempts to get it to work. And yes, there could be a problem with your S/N not being registered in their database.
Try to sign up for Asus device tracker. That will tell you if your S/N is registered with them. If not, call Asus about a problem signing up for device Tracker, NOT about your inability to unlock!
They do not support unlocking and won't help you to do so.

Having just been through this, what berndblb said.
After several goes I managed to get the DeviceTracker to work. Some things which may or may not have helped get it to work:
Login to Asus support site and check device is registered (it was). Maybe logging in 'poked' it to update an active flag or something?
Update and go into Google Maps app on the pad, there's a new disclaimer screen that needed to be OKd
Update and go into Google+ app on the pad. Some of Google's location services (e.g. latitude) seem to have been moved to that. No idea if it's relevant for what Asus use but hey.
Logged in to the DeviceTracker using Google. My Asus account login wouldn't work.
The serial number entry just worked, and added TF201 to a dropdown at the top, then located my device.
Then Asus' unlock app on the pad (which was still open after getting the error before) worked straight off and asked for Google password.
HTH, I was about to give up and call Asus support which wasn't going to go well.

I hate Asus support... They swear the "unlock device tool" has nothing to do with the device tracker. I have been on the phone for 1.5 hrs now with them and they say the device tracker has been having issues for a week! Asus NO SUPPORT!
What worked for me....finally
I went through a lot of posts and other forums with users having issues with the tool. I've read it relies on the Device Tracker but couldn't get that to work. After trying everything posted in this forum and doing a reset (no longer rooted) I still couldn't get v7 or v8 to work for my tf700. I contacted ASUS support via email and they replied this morning. They sent me a link to a v7 .apk and it worked with no issues. I was very happy to see them helping me do this even though it would then void the warranty. Here is what they sent me, including full text as to give all credit to them:
"Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.
My name is Emma and it is my pleasure to help you with your problem.
I will do our utmost to assist you in resolving this matter, I apologize for the trouble you seem to be experiencing with the device.
Could you please check whether the unlock tool you downloaded is right first and then accomplish it through the steps I sent to you.
URL omitted due to me being new user. Search for the "Version V7" and File Size should show "613.54 (KBytes) 2012/07/25 update"
Please install this apk and follow the below steps to unlock device
1.Launch “Unlock Device” on your app menu
2.Read and check the description, Press “OK”
3.Check “agree” and press “Press to unlock your device”
If you still can not unlock it, could you please provide the wifi mac address for me?
Have a great day!
Once again, thanks for choosing ASUS products.

Well! Good news! Either they changed their policy towards unlocking or you were lucky to deal wiith a very responsive rep.
I wouldn't be surprised if they leighten up on unlocking now. Lots of Tf700s are at the end of their warranty anyway - no skin off their back anymore....

I am dealing with Emma now. She seems helpful. I used the Asus Device Tracker not working after an RMA tactic and then she asked for my MAC address. Im pretty happy.
This tab is nearly useless unless you ROM it.
Thanks for the post. I will report back if it works.
Emma updated their servers! Last night I was trying to unlock via the app and VOILA! FINALLY after hundreds of attempts my tablet is unlocked! Fun times ahead!

Hi! Thank you, I used the gmail account and the tracker worked !!! But, I still can't unlock my device. I can receive any updates. But the unlock tool still gives me the network erros message. What else can I do ?
Thank you!
please help!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been reading the transformer forum and was directed here to see if there was any solution. I am having the same problem.
I call ASUS and both customer services reps. would not help me because they said my device is unlocked. My device is not unlocked. The first rep hung up on me and when I called back the second rep told me because the computer is saying my device is unlocked then they cannot help. they want me to send it back to them so that they can charge me (which by the way is alot) to fix the problem instead of changing my status in their computer and registering me with ASUS device tracker.
I tried to register with ASUS device tracker and it tells me the command failed.
Is there any way to get help now because I really want to root or is there a way to root without unlocking the tablet?:fingers-crossed:
mmgetthersjr56:
I saw this info at devicetracker.asus.com. I did the .10 update OTA and never saw anything indicating it didn't take. Later on, not because I saw this info because I hadn't yet, I downloaded .10 from Asus and flashed it from my sdcard. But the other day when I wanted to make sure the device tracker would find me I saw this when I clicked the UPDATE LIST option:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So now I wonder is this possibly what is keeping me from being able to unlock the damn thing? Would rolling back to .8 and then taking an OTA to .10 clear this data and thus allow me to unlock?
You might want to go back to the device tracker and see if your info on this page is indicating like mine is. It MIGHT be what OUR unlocking problem is but I'm not sure about that.

Contact Asus support by email and send them a picture of your boot screen. If it doesn't say: "This device is unlocked" - it's not unlocked.....
You can root without unlocking by downgrading to 10.6.1.14.8 firmware and rooting it with the Motochopper tool. But you cannot run a custom rom without unlocking it.

I went through the same run-around with Support - they said it was unlocked when it wasn't. I sent them a screenshot capturing my serial number and MAC address at their request, they still said it was unlocked, and then miraculously/luckily the next unlock I tried worked. They would not admit to changing anything on their side. The whole process and their stance on it is absurd. I love the tablet now that I have CROMi-x on it and my Nexus 7 is a great device but dealing with Asus has really soured me on them.
I got a call today from someone at asus that wanted to know about a survey I took after they sent me an RMA for the unlocking problem. They wanted to know why I gave them a bad rating. I told them they were unwilling to fix my issue which really does not need to have the tablet returned to them for repair. I told him what I was trying to do and got the same bs answer about not supporting unlocking of the device. So I said asus can kiss my posterior and will get no more of my money nor any recommendations for products to anyone I do work for or know. Told him asus was more concerned about my bad survey comments than making an impression on a customer by extending a helping hand by going the extra mile.
Since there is nothing you can do or are willing to do goodbye. I hung up the phone.
I will bad mouth Asus every chance I get everywhere I go when the topic arises. I'm not going to wear you people out about it but no one will ever hear me say anything good about Asus ever again. Sorry for whoever may find this unsavory but I really did want to unlock and run a good ROM on my tablet and I am very upset that it cant be done all because of Asus's attitude towards unlocking and bad records.
Merry Christmas to all!

Thank you everyone for your responses.
flhthemi - I had the very same experience and they completely ignored my concerns. I will never buy or recommend ASUS to anyone because it really is the principle of a big corporate company just selling a product and customer service does not count.
sparksd - I called and have yet to have them correct the problem because they believe that my device is unlocked and I am a liar.
berndblb - How do I downgrade and not brick my device. I have tried to do this and it never works and then my device becomes bricked. I have tried multiple ways suggest on this site and other for ASUS TF700T but have had no success. so if you could please point me to the one method that is a sure fire way to this then I would appreciate it. Also I know about the nvflash but I have yet to have it work for me.
Again thank you all for your help. It is really appreciated that there are still people that are so willing to help and give sound advice.

Downgrading should not put you into any jeopardy of bricking! It' s all done with the stock recovery and a method build into the stock rom - what did you try?
Anyway - you download the .8 firmware for your SKU or region (US, WW, JP)
- you unzip that file once, the result being another zip
- you copy that file to the root of your internal storage
- you should get a notification that the downgrade is available. If you don't: reboot
If that does not work try method 2:
- rename the unzipped zip to EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip (make sure your PC shows file extensions - you don't want to end up with EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip.zip)
- load that file into the root of a fat32 formatted microSD, insert the card and boot to recovery
- the recovery should recognize the firmware file and flash it automatically
To boot to recovery you boot up holding Power and Volume Down buttons until you feel the tablet vibrate twice and see tiny script appear. You'll also see three icons: RCK, Android, Wipe Data
RCK is flashing. Push the Volume Up button to enter recovery
Once that is done you download the Motochopper tool and follow the instructions to root the tablet.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2258633
Ignore everything but the numbered instructions in the grey box. It doesn't say so, but the tool works for the TF700 stock JB rom. Naturally you need the Asus drivers for your device - not Samsung as it says there. If you can connect to your tablet in MTP through USB you should be ok.

They didn't come out and call me a liar but they kept telling me mine was unlocked even though it clearly wasn't. Based on the date of when they said mine was supposedly unlocked, it looks like a failed unlock attempt somehow registers as an unlock to them. At any rate, I found their general tone to be the most irritating aspect of this - I felt like they were either calling me a liar or telling me I was too stupid to recognize that my device was unlocked.
I think I am rooted but still no unlock of device

Ignore everything but the numbered instructions in the grey box. It doesn't say so, but the tool works for the TF700 stock JB rom. Naturally you need the Asus drivers for your device - not Samsung as it says there. If you can connect to your tablet in MTP through USB you should be ok.

Thank you for these instructions. I did everything correctly and motochopper told me I was rooted but I just need to ask this question. If I am rooted I have access to superuser correct?
Thank you for your time.
