[Q] Only in Actual Operating System, Phone Refuses to Unlock - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Everyone! This is my first forum post anywhere (I'm used to looking at these forums, but not asking questions), as this issue has me completely stumped.
The issue is that every time the Nexus 5 (32 GB - White) is started, no matter what ROM I use, the first screen always works just fine. However, if I were to hit the power button to lock the device, it doesn't unlock. If I hit the bottom arrow, it will immediately lock the screen; when it gets to the "Select Wifi Network" screen, the screen unlocks. At that point, hitting the power button will show a glimpse of the screen, then immediately lock.
If I am in either Clockwork Recovery, or TWRP recovery, there are no issues at all. The issue is only present whenever I am actively in an operating system.
Things I have tried so far: using fastboot to copy over Google's stock images back. They all replicate the issue as well... I was on Android L Preview, and started noticing the issue. First thing I did was try to fastboot the image of the 2nd to latest image (the latest one had knocked out the front facing camera for some reason... lol). I have tried both Clockwork Recovery and TWRP as alternate recovery options and tried to sideload CM 11, and that didn't do anything. I have tried clearing any partition to clear it.
Well, after all of this, I called Google, and they told me I had voided my warranty, so I decided to go ahead and open up my phone to check for any damages, and the water indicator on the inside of the phone was set off (pink). However, there wasn't any damage except for some corrosion (sweat, I am pretty sure), but that which could be found was removed.
I'm at a complete loss. Is there a reason the recoveries would work flawlessly, but the OS fails when you try to use it? Is there a way to truly nuke the entire storage device on the inside, recreate the partitions, reinstall recovery, and maybe have a completely wiping any trace of the OS? It feels like something might be staying in all the erases I have done.
Thanks much for the help in advance!!!

[Q] Touchscreen stopped working on Nexus S

Hi all
Today I was trying to get my nexus s onto the official ota ICS update by flashing it manually, following guides other people had had success with.
I was on the cm9 ics beta, so I had to flash the full rom of 2.3.6.
This worked completely, however I think the ota update file I downloaded was corrupted, as flashing didn't work, it said something about signature verification failed. So I redownloaded it, from the same link, and the new one was bigger. I tried that, and the same error. I tried wiping data/factory reset etc, and I accidentally started to flash a cm7 rom I had on my phone.
I stupidly did a battery pull as it started to flash (the back cover was off already), and now my touchscreen doesn't work. I was able to successfully flash other roms including the 2.3.6 I downloaded, and I couldn't do the first setup procedure (touch the android to begin). I tried cleaning the screen very carefully with 90% isopropyl alcohol, the same stuff I use to replace thermal paste on cpus.
It still doesn't work. I am hoping it is a software issue that can be fixed otherwise I have to return it.
Someone please help
I have used the search function and none of the solutions I found worked.
(UPDATE) I rebooted again, and when the phone booted into cm7, the "internet" icon(the globe picture) on the bottom left of the dock was in the "pressed" state(orange). It was like the phone thought I was holding my finger on it, which suggested a hardware issue. I cleaned it again and nothing changed. Then I held the phone in the landscape position. When the screen rotated, the button stayed pressed. So the phone doesn't think "this part of the screen is being pressed" it thinks "this internet icon" is being pressed. Rotating the phone again and again didn't change anything, the icon was still pressed in.
Defiantly a software issue. I would try to unroot and reroot. Then if it is still not working, try to format the SD card. You may want to considering buying a USB to micro USB adapter to help you, considering then u could plug in a mouse. I have one just in case I need it.
Thank me if any of this helped
Also try and keep this updated with new info. If I can't help, maybe someone else can.
Sent from my XT862 using XDA App
Thanks techno-update, I will try that. I haven't "unrooted" before, Is that just typing fastboot oem lock or whatever it is instead of fastboot oem unlock?
Also, I found a youtube video with the EXACT same problem.
v=zpfE15Xw_os&feature=related
Skip to 3:15, and you will see when he opens the power menu, the phone thinks he is pressing on one of the options, but he isn't.
I will let you know how unrooting and rerooting goes.
Thanks
(UPDATE)
I tried unrooting and then rooting again. It still does the same thing.
Even in cwr I can't use the capacitive buttons to navigate menus, does that rule out software problems? I am really hoping its just a software problem :/
I need my phone for an outing tonight (im in australia, its 5pm now) and I would appreciate it if some genius could solve this
I am usually the "go to fix it IT guy" in my area, but I can't figure this one out. I have tried formatting the phone, reflashing the mod etc.
Is there some more aggressive COMPLETE wipe or something that fully wipes the phone?
UPDATE 2
Guys please help,
I just flashed zulugen mod, as it has the trinity kernel, I don't know much about android os, but I hoped that that might replace the touchscreen driver or something. The rom flashed correctly, but touchscreen and the capacitive buttons still don't work. Please help
Guys, is there some sort of system partition where the touchscreen drivers are kept or something? And when I pulled the battery as it was flashing cm7, it corrupted these?
Is there some way to fix this?
bump
bump. I need help with this urgently. Is it possible the connections for the screen came loose inside? I would crack it open but don't have screwdrivers for the 3 smaller screws on the last layer of plastic before the pc board.

Fighting a lost cause?

I've got a rooted (Super SU, but the original root manager was Superuser) LG C800 that I was having problems with. To be specific, I installed some apps on to the system. Some of these apps would be Titanium Backup for root, Avast Mobile Security, ROM Tool Box Lite, Super SU, and a quite a few others. From day one they seem to be kicked right back to my S.D. card, but not all at the same time, and some would stay on the system. I read where I should move the apps back to my S.D. card and try to re-install them on the system minus the data. When I did, the phone went nuts. Now it stays in a restart mode but never fully boots up. Can I salvage it, and if so, please tell me how?! I have tried the hard reset/recovery boot where you hold down the power button, volume, and a few other keys, but it did not work. I'm a broke college student and can't really afford to buy a new phone. I used this one for everything including tethering it to get my assignments done at home and turned in on time. Please help! I'm open to suggestions....... My phone will be completely off. When I plug it into my computer, via U.S.B., it automatically turns it on whether I want it to be on or not. Then it starts off in "reboot recovery" mode, will boot all the way to the point to where the home screen would normally turn on, but then it starts in that "boot loop" all over again but never fully boots up before going back to the beginning of that "boot loop" yet again. I can't even get it to register on my laptop as being plugged in. The reason I took the apps I placed on the system off was because sometimes when I'd re-boot the system the apps would be on the system and sometimes back on my S.D. card without my involvement of any kind other than rebooting my phone. Is completing a Nandroid recovery or re-installation of my ROM even possible with my computer no longer recognizing it as even being plugged in? From what I can tell it won't be. Am I fighting a lost cause or is it salvageable?
Rooted myTouch Q 4G, a.k.a. LG C800
I believe it has a 2.3.4 GRJ22-perf, and then something like 2.6.35.7? I can't remember off the top of my head, and I can't pull it up on my phone anymore or else I'd double check.
Have you tried booting into recovery?
(More about my phone from the original post) Honestly.........I'm not what you may consider technologically inclined. I have however done about as much research online concerning this matter as any one person can do. I've looked it up on all major sites, and many smaller ones too, that post remedies for phone, or "human" if you'd rather, malfunctions. They all talk about still being able to reach a home screen or doing the whole holding the power and volume decrease buttons until I "reboot recovery" screen appears (if that's what you're referring to as doing a recovery reboot as). Don't forget the one where you hold hold the power and volume decrease buttons along with the "A" and "F" keys as well. I even tried one from here where you're supposed to push the genius button after the Android figure leaves the screen. My phone won't allow me to do either. Basically if it's online, I myself, or this girl that's been staying with me, have tried it without any results. On the initial boot the Android figure and the box with the arrow coming out of it show up and it boots until just about the point that it use to switch over to the home screen and it will start the whole "boot loop" over again. The thing is though that the Android figure and box aren't there any other time after the first boot, and with every boot loop it makes after that, the time is reduced from the beginning of the loop to the end when it starts all over again. The phone won't shut off unless I remove the battery and even though my laptop no longer recognizes the device, when I plug my phone into it or another power source and it's off, it automatically turns itself on and begins that boot loop all over again. there is one thing I have yet to try. I read on one site where I could download a custom ROM on my S.D. and then try reboot it, but it never makes it to the point in which the files on my S.D. card are ran, much less scanned. I am still 100% open to any and all suggestions in the diagnosis of this issue. I may record and place a video on one of the more popular "tube" sites to better show or further explain what's happening and then come back on here to post the link?! Feel free to reply back if it's possible you can help before I'm able to complete that later this evening. And thanks for any and all help in advance to everyone.

Unsuccessful Root of HTC One M7 Need Advice

I have a Tmobile HTC One M7 that I paid $300 for. It was awesome! However, I wanted to root it. So I successfully unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP and then proceeded to attempt to root. Something went wrong and now this thing is useless! I cannot tell you where it went wrong because when the first sign of trouble appeared I started doing all kinds of **** to try and fix it, none of which worked and I have lost track of what I did in the process of trying to root and then subsequently trying to fix. I know there were some wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, install zip from SD, I may have even tried to flash a custom ROM without the thing being rooted. I have been reading for days, trying this, trying that to no avail. The phone is brand new, without a scratch. It will power up like normal, but when it gets to the lock screen where you swipe the little lock in the bottom tray to use the phone it will not respond at all! It recognizes the network because it is displayed in the notifications bar up top, it can see the signal strength, it knows what time it is, it knows what the date is, but it will not get past the damn lock screen. ADB sideload works. I was able to push a zip and flashed it, even said android is upgrading when I rebooted, but it did not solve my problem. It will not power off, but when I hold the power button down, to turn it off the back arrow < and home symbol flash and after about 10 seconds a dialog box pops up that says to restart your phone continue to press and hold the power button and starts a countdown. Once the countdown gets to zero it restarts. If I hold the volume down button while doing this it will go into the boatloader and I can get into recovery. Apparently there is no backup to restore because when I try a restore I get the same exact same thing. I thought I had done one, I must have erased it somehow. I have been trying to resolve this for weeks now and am at my wits end. Any suggestions please !?!? Will anyone on this forum take it if I ship to them and fix for a fee? Otherwise this things going in the trash.

Tablet stuck in "Installing System Update to Error!" loop

My tablet froze on me and I powered it down to restart it and then it went into what folks on here call a bootloop. After holding down Power and volume down, it brought me to a screen that had three icons and I chose the one on the right by mistake and now it's looping again, but instead of the Asus screen with the refreshing icon, it's the android falling with an Error on his chest after quickly flashing Installing System Update.
The power volume combo works no more and the only way I can shut off my tablet completely is to use the power and volume up button. I can't get back to screen with the three icons no matter how many times I try.
I've already resolved myself to purchasing a new device, so my main concern is recovering the data, slim as that might be. Any recommendations?
Also, note that Ive never rooted or installed anything on my tablet. No roms or kernels or any other modifications. If I can get my data by any means necessary, I'd be satisfied, even If I Ihad to open it and retrieve the harddrive.
Hopefully Ive explained myself sufficently for you guys to help me. Cheers.

If I read your post correctly, you selected the right icon which is a Wipe data from your bootloader. When you executed that Wipe data, it will wipe everything on your internal SD including your /media folder or your personal files and data... The chance is very slim unless someone knows how to recover data from a wipe. Technically, your data is still there but it is only a dumb files which contain only 0's and 1's. Some recovery tools may be able to retrieve your data but I don't have that knowledge.. I hope that someone will be able to help you out and good luck...:fingers-crossed:
I'm afraid LMK is right: Your data is gone.
Do I suspect correctly that you interrupted the Wipe Data process after selecting it "accidentally"?
Choosign Wipe Data from the bootloader causes the BL to write a command to the misc partition to start the recovery and wipe the data partition. If you interrupted the process, there's no telling what and where that got corrupted - unless you just let it loop and pray that it finishes the wipe process which would erase the BL command. Connect it to power and let it loop for a few hours. What have you got to loose?
But your data is gone either way - sorry.
Morning, cheeky question(s)
Where are you located, and would you be interested in selling your bricked TF700? I have a broken screen among other things and would be interested in buying your tablet for spares if you are getting a new one?
PM me if you are interested.
Thank you
Freddie
I'm not all too sure what the Icon on the left wad, but I'm sure it said RKU or some sort. I would have given up all hope if I had hit the wipe data on the right.
Days recovery aside, is there anyway I can get my looped tablet to work? I plugged it into a comp and it didn't recognise it.

After deleting all apps my phone does not work anymore

So first of all I have a S5 neo which I have rooted. I wanted to achieve that there is no way to access the data on the phone without physical access to it.
So I have everything with Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, LTE, UMTS or GSM unsoldered from the motherboard. It worked except for the problem that the phone only started in safe mode so I could not use my own apps.
First I updated Lineageos from the official 17.1 to the unofficial version 18.1 with this ROM https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...1-0-0_r49-lineageos-18-1-28-nov-2021.4292703/ .
Which in itself worked but it still starts in safe mode even when setting up.
Then I had the idea to uninstall system apps via TWRP. Since probably because of the missing components a system app throws errors why it goes into safe mode. So in TWRP via advanced -> file manage in system gone and have thought in my infinite wisdom, since I do not know if it repairt I remove all apps, if it solves my problem I can narrow it down later which app exactly. So first priv app and app folder completely solved.
Now to my current point of view. It does not boot into Lineageos (who could have imagined that XD). So it comes as far as in the boot animation (green curved line where always a circle moves from right to left).
When I try to boot in TWRP it just loops the Samsung logo and then when I release the buttons it tries to boot back into Lineageos.
When I try to boot into download mode it works up to the point where it says warning and I have to press volume up to advance or volume down to cancel. Whereas in here all at once the volume dasten do nothing more. and no the keys are not broken because otherwise I would not have come into the menu.
USB debugging and the like is of course not aktieviert, because I just installed a new ROM.
I don't intend to do anything illegal with the phone, as you might think, it's just a backup idea that I'm implementing for fun.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do?
My only idea right now would be to solder the EMMC memory from another mainboard to my current mainboard.

I would throw it away at this point, it isn't worth the money, the time or the effort.
Find something else to tinker with, just don't destroy it the way you did this device.
Why take the approach on unsoldering?
Etherway.... , yes just throwing it away at this point is the best thing

also if the data is confidential, try drilling through the EMMC
I got it working again with the help of a Samsung USB jig.
