[Q] Improve audio quality when recording video.

Hi, I open this thread to ask a simple question.
I'm using stock 4.0.3 Android version with Simple Kernel 1.0 and with Voodoo Sound/Colors enabled in kernel. I noticed that video with the stock camera app are recorded using a 16kHz sampling rate and have 96kbps bitrate with AAC codec.
I wonder if there is a way to change the audio format of the recorded audio (e.g. 44.1kHz/128kbps) in order to take full advantage of the new audio drivers. I mean, now thanks to Supercurio's work the audio path is well handled by the system using the features of the Wolfson audio chipset, why waste that signal quality by using a low quality encoding? (16KHz/96 kbps AAC is not so suitable for music recording...)
With external apps such as Tapatalk I can record loseless WAV using 44Khz sample rate, how to embed this functionality in the stock camera app?
(if this is the wrong section i ask moderators to move the thread, though I think this is a pretty interesting matter to talk about)

Why do you reserve posts in every thread instead of giving suggestions?!
@op there isn't an option available in the stock one. You can however use third party apps or such things to get it.

mic quality on other side of conversation
when talking on the phone people say I sound nasally on the other side. Would downgrading my radio help. Is it just the mic on the nexus or would swapping the radio make a difference? I had a N1 for two years and no issues like this.
I9020t
Rom Nexusbeam 4.1.0
Radio KI1
kernel matrix ---It was doing this before i flashed it and cm9
Leads me to believe that its just the nature of the nexus s
I didn't tapl on it much when I it before i rooted it.

I'm continuing this thread because it's main question remains still unsolved. How to record video with decent audio endcoding quality (as said 44kHz/16bit good bitrate)? 3rd party app? What apps are we talking about?

I have also been searching the internet about this for what feels like EVER!
I have been a tape-a-talk user for over one year and have tried several ROMs and video recording apps.
Only one that I know of (lgcamera) allows you to change the audio recording attributes (up to 48000Hz and AAC 320kbps). It also includes AMR and AMR_WB (but AMR is just '3gp', right?). However, even at the highest AAC settings, I still can't record video with high quality audio (I checked by uploading my vids to a pc and right clicking properties - the audio bitrate is only 103kbps & is 16 bit)
I wrote to the developer (just yesterday) and I sent him some clips and he reckons that it is a hardware issue. He also said that "WAV can be record by software encoder, and AAC is a hardware encoder", which explained my question that you also asked re tape-a-talk being able to record in crystal clear WAV.
I am still not happy with this answer, because it makes no sense to me that you can record in high quality audio (WAV) yet not in a lossy format at high qualities (eg 256 kbps AAC).
- I'm on a Nexus S (rooted). Stock ICS 4.0.4, Matr1x Kernel V20 (with VOODOO sound, settings for oversampling etc all cranked up)
---------- Post added at 10:54 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:45 AM ----------
I just found this, which is to do with latency, but I am not sure if this will improve recording capabilities...
So - any luck?
Found anything new re your OP?

Little Tips:
- I REALLY SUGGEST YOU TO USE AC!D AND WALKMAN ONLY (without any other Addon) (in my opinion gives the best audio quality) (but walkman might not work on All devices)
- If you can't change volume level in walkman just click on audio effect it will resolve immediately this issue
- ALWAYS FLASH ON A CLEAN INSTALL!!!
- Once it booted leave your phone 5min to let all effect settle then reboot once again!
- DON'T FLASH ANY ADDON IF YOU FLASHED WALKMAN ADDON (NOT COMPATIBLE)
- (Walkman addon may cause bootloop on some devices cause it takes space in system partition)
- IN CASE OF BOOLTOOP ---->REFLASH YOUR ROM AND THEN TRY UNIVERSAL VERSION<----

Native HD ROMs
Thanks for the great job!!! i tried (and like) the previous version which was used in QSEA_Jelly Bean- Music Edition ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1955945
How can we make it work on Native ROMs, like this one from Tytung: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437463 where AC!D mod is not preinstalled???
I would like to have it on my phone very much, as alot of owners of legendary HTC HD2.

I've installed it now on my HTC One S with AOKP JB Rom and the soundquality is really awesome!
But the music sounds now no longer as smooth as before. I think every one to two seconds there is a little "ticking noise". And when i try to open equalizer in walkman or play music, the equalizer app crashes. No i don't have any mods or eq apps installed, it's a clean&fresh install.

Try to remove HTC related lines that I've added in build.prop may resolve "tick" issue
If not try with an other addon

walkman is the music player from the xperia phones.
noozxoide is another music player wich has its own dspmanager in it i think.
dolby digital brings you dolby surround sound, but only (works really good for me on jb, dont know why rikfoot said it doesn't work.).
and awesome beats doesn't only give you better bass, it's a modded dspmanager, to give you better bass and beats quality.

I know what a walkman is since i had a SE Walkman phone xD
So noozxoide is a player with the original DSP Manager replacement right? Hmmm...
What is dolby surround sound? I just want the basic on that noting more.
So if i am listening to Dubstep, its bass agressive style with fast beats i should use Beats right? Damn i answered my own Q xD

[MOD][08/02]Xperia: Fidelity 7.0 - Audio optimization script for Android devices

This project is derived from [MOD][TWEAK][03/05]Nexus S: Fidelity 2.0 - Ultimate Low latency audio playback. I started this project when I owned Nexus S phone trying to optimize system playing very low alsa buffer size for @6ms playback without stuttering. It’s been improving since then even I no longer use Nexus phone as optimizing OS to have with similar goal as what I did in Fidelizer is still possible in Android. So I kept improving things in Xperia phone with satisfying result.
This script will do the following changes for better audio performance:
-Optimize CPU for suitable audio playback ones while still keeping good juice
-Optimize kernel resource scheduling granularity for lower latency and more responsive
-Optimize audio process and I/O priorities from lowest level to real-time level ensuring highest performance of audio processing
-Optimize file I/O scheduling for lower CPU usage and latency with good performance
-Optimize IRQ affinity for multi-core platform
-Optimize real-time clock frequency for high resolution time domain
-Optimize Voodoo Sound configuration for optimal volume and purist without cheap tricks like re-sampling and pseudo anti-jitter mechanics.
Instructions:
1. Root your phone with recovery support.
2. BusyBox is not required but it’s recommended to have BusyBox installed regardless.
3. Verify that your phone has init.d support. You can learn how to enable init.d support from this topic if your phone doesn’t support it yet.
4. Boot to recovery and flash xperia_fidelity_v7.zip file then reboot
5. If your device doesn’t support recovery, extract ‘S98_xperia_fidelity’ file inside archive to ‘/system/etc/init.d’ and download Script Manager running that file with su+boot to instead.
6. You should have your phone with audio optimization script. Try playing music and be impressed with performance.
Changelog - I didn’t keep tracking with this development branch during making my own ROM so none

How u would do? It was so simple but we all was so stupid to find the how it work, it was just abt to copy and paste
In mixerpath.xml u just need to find the path
Speaker-and-headphone section
And Copy everything in that path and
Then delete everything in speaker section and paste the copied one, so simple I was
So much investing time nearly one month and now look the simplest way to do so stupid things take my time
But finally it works
Report if there is any bug
And I will try to push bass inside the two speakers without distortion let's try

ask
I have a question:
we all know our xperia z1 loudspeaker is only 1 (mono) not stereo.
how can we produce stereo sound from only 1 speaker?
I checked your mixer_paths.xml.
it contains
<ctl name="TFA98XX_PARAM_TYPE" value="Playback" />
<ctl name="TFA98XX_CHANNEL" value="Both" /> --> I think it was taken from xperia z2 mixer_path.xml
<ctl name="TFA98XX_SPKR_AMP" value="1" />
<ctl name="DAC1 Switch" value="1" />
I wonder, will it working with our xperia z1?
thank you.

It means u don't understand BTW it's not the speaker settings and one more I uploaded new zip and this lines are useless ignore if u compare with original mixerpath.xml u will see
New lines begin from
CLASS_DSM_HPHL something like this u will see it
Rx 7 is for right speaker (actually it's loudspeaker)
Rx1 and RX2 is for left speaker (it's earpiece speaker) but RX2 don't work so
Logically rx7 for right and rx1 for left, try ur self,,

great
so far, the "stereo sound" sounds great !! -> I disable speaker settings sony(clear phase n xloud) to get better sound though.
I only implement "stereo" tweak, not headphone&microphone boost.
Great job !!:good::good::good:
anyway I have tried your bass mod, it sounds terrible.

1 more question
btw before I forget this thing, should we change "RX7 Digital Volume" value into 100 instead of 90 ??
because RX1 Digital Volume & RX2 Digital Volume values are 100.
i don't understand how we can have a stereo mode if we have only 1 loudspeaker. what's the second loudspeaker?
